I've been going here for a long time. The food is basic, but it's always fresh and well prepared. I especially like the burgers and chicken fried steak. The fried okra is phenomenal, truly the best in Houston. They have a delicious home made apple strudel which makes dessert a tough decision because of their excellent, rich cheesecake. read more

This is the third and last time I will eat at Pecos Grilling Co. in Tomball. First of all, my husband and I arrived at 11 am just when they opened. My husband went to use the men's room and said apparently someone had a "blowout" in the toilet, because it had excrement all over the seat. Mind you this was at opening in the morning. After eating I went to use the ladies bathroom and there was no toilet paper in the handicapped toilet area. I also noticed the the base of the adjacent toilet looked grungy, as if it has not been cleaned as is expected of any food establishment. Food isn't cheap at this restaurant, so I sure expected a nicer experience. Since this is considered a $$ restaurant, one would expect more attention to sanitation in all areas. I wonder what the kitchen looks like? The health department might just be giving them a visit soon.:( Now about the food: The Chicken Fried Steak was "mushy" according to my husband and my Shrimp and Crab (hah, it had one tablespoon of shredded crab meat) Alfredo was bland. What could have been a bad experience tr urn delightful, all because a waitress stepped away from her section to take care of customers that were being ignored. We were well taken care of and she was quick to take care of issues that came up when the meal arrived. The food was excellent and the service superior, making us want to come back again. Attempted to have lunch here with the entire family - table of 8 - and you would have thought we were a party of 20. Waited nearly an hour before finally getting food. Bread was delivered at the end of the meal because they were apparently baking more, though every table around us had some. Food was subpar and lukewarm when it finally arrived. Had roughly 5 people wait on us throughout the ordeal and none were apologetic. Most of the wait staff was more interested in talking amongst themselves and checking their phones than providing any sort of actual service. Horrible service and mediocre food. It's always really delicious. It's consistency over the years is wonderful in the sense that you know you won't be let down. Portions are great. I hate giving 2 stars, but I have to due to the service. I was so excited to go there for my birthday dinner and our waiter ruined it for me. He was expressionless and was not at all hospitable. The food was good but I cannot get over the horrible service. When I asked if we get bread his answer was "yeah I guess I means if you ask." . This is what I wrote to the PGC manager: I was there with my husband and a group of 14 others Friday night, 7/27. One of our friends had made reservations a couple of days before and confirmed on the 26th how many people we would have. It was pretty much a disaster from the get-go. The waiter was completely overwhelmed because he had us and several other tables with no other assistance. He did as well as possible considering that the Pecos Grilling Co was insufficiently staffed. We all arrived between 6:15-6:40. We had to re-arrange the tables ourselves to get everyone seated together and it took at least 20 minutes for the waiter to show up to place our orders. Then another 20 minutes to get our drinks. During this timeframe we never even got a glass of water or rolls to eat. We finally were able to order and it took about 45 minutes to get our food. Then, a couple of orders were wrong. I ordered the Steak and shrimp, baked potato and salad. The shrimp were burnt to a crisp, the steak was tough and everything else was only lukewarm. I sent my food back and got another meal around 8:50pm (we arrived at 6:30)! Had to get a to-go box for it as everyone was leaving at 9:00. So basically I DIDN'T GET TO EAT, BUT STILL HAD TO PAY FOR IT! + a 20% tip automatically included! Never through the entire meal were we offered a refill on drinks. We had to go to the bar to tell them we needed more drinks and water. You could have made a LOT more money if you'd had someone there to occasionally ask if we wanted or needed anything else. One of my friends asked for dill sauce, which the waiter said was no problem. They got it AFTER they ate, about an hour later. What a terrible experience! My husband's and my bill was $65 dollars, with a 20% tip automatically included. It was such a bad experience we didn't want to leave anything!! Shame on YOU, the manager, for not having sufficient servers on a Friday night. We will NEVER go back and will give NO references for your restaurant. read more

Food was average, maybe a little too down-homey. Had the prime rib which came out rarer than the medium rare I ordered it but hey, not a deal-breaker for me. But why isn't horseradish served automatically with it? Sides choices were extra heavy on the fried but this place is in Tomball and I partook. Got the fried corn on the cob and the fried okra. Both decent but not spectacular. Does anyone hand bread their own okra anymore? Nope, guess we're all trained now to like the frozen stuff from Sysco. Ok, the bad about this place is the smokers all hanging out RIGHT OUTSIDE the front door. Bar is at the front so they just step outside and puff away. Not very appetizing to walk through a cloud of smoke before eating and doesn't help your digestion any to walk through the same cloud on the way out. Yuck. I used to eat here once or twice a week. But will never eat here again. Today at lunch we had to wait 10 minutes before a waitress would recognize us. So we insisted on ordering our meal prior to giving our drink order. We did not see the waitress again for 45 minutes. After 55 minutes we finally asked if our meal was even coming. She said it was not and they had to re-submit the order. I had do get back to work so I got up and left. My wife asked to see the manager who only said he would talk to the staff. Apparently waiting over an hour for your food at lunchtime is perfectly acceptable to these people. The owner is never around and has no clue how screwed up his restaurant is. Who let's one of their regular customer leave pissed. Sorry but you have lost my business and my company's business forever. read more

Inconsistent! I want to like Pecos but having a hard time. First time I went was for a birthday celebration and the steaks and service were great. The next visit I had the beef tips and they were good but the kitchen was very stingy on the sides and service was slow and poor. Had pot roast for lunch and all was great. Last visit the pork chops were dry and over cooked and waitress was either hiding in the kitchen or socializing with one customer. read more

No one ever checked on us while waiting...we were never offered bread and our drinks (soda and water) were not refilled. We ate dinner at the Pecos Steak House in Tomball, TX, tonight with friends. We have eaten at this restaurant before and enjoyed it. Tonight, we saw a small insect in each of the two salads we ordered after we had eaten a small amount of food. We didn't eat much before returning the uneaten food. I felt sorry for the waiter. We didn't pay for the salads, but the bugs in our salads ruined our meal/evening. No manager ever approached our table to apologize or talk with us. This place is so-so. Last week we got chicken fried steak (to me this is a no brainer in Tomball, everyone should be able to make this) and green beans and mashed potatoes + extra gravy. The gravy tasted extra package-y and the green beans tasted so gross I actually spit them out. I have no idea what they seasoned them with but it was not good at all and they looked good too. The CFS and mashed potatoes (they call them whipped, IDK why) where fine. We haven't been in a year since last time similar experience with different dishes. We should just quit trying. My family has been to Pecos many times. Every once in a while they won't be on their best game, but time and time again, they do an excellent job. They have good prices and good food selection. Their fried asparagus is awesome, as well as their spicy chick fried steak. Be sure you ask for rolls. I suggest trying it out. The only real negative is the bar is at the entrance of the restaurant, and if someone is smoking you walk right into it. The smoke doesn't seem to escape into the eating areas. read more

Worst food we have had in a long time. My husbands burger tasted bland and microwaved. It had an indention in the patty where it looked as if someone pushed their finger into the patty. I am guessing to see if it was warm. He sent it back. The Tuesday Special my 9 year old ordered was also bland and greasy. Definitely pre-breaded frozen food. The bleu cheese dressing had a weird taste. We were hoping that after waiting 50 minutes for our food for our family of 4 that the wait for the food would be worth it. My mother and I had lunch here. I remember coming here when I was younger and it was great. We ordered the crab cakes and the spinach artichoke dip as appetizers. Crab cakes were ok but they were cool in the middle so I couldn't finish them. The dip was good but seemed microwaved. Moving on to our meals my mother ordered the shrimp embrochette and it was good, and she really liked the baked potato. I ordered the 12 oz ribeye with sauteed veggies and mashed potatoes. Steak was cooked properly and the potatoes were ok but the veggies were not sauteed. They were really hard and hard no flavor. I asked them to be sauteed some more but they came back almost the same, hard but a little more cooked still no flavor. Service was decent but there was only one server and she had every table. Overall I we weren't very happy with our experience today. read more

My office has gotten lunch here twice in the last couple months and both times my food has been a huge let down! Last time I got the large chicken fried steak with asparagus and the chicken fried steak was small. The asparagus was not fully cooked and tasted like rubber! Today one of the Guys ordered chicken fried steak. And he got chicken fried chicken. I ordered the chicken tenders(non lunch portion) Pretty sure they gave me the lunch portion because it was 3 tiny chicken tenders that were the same size as my small portion of French fries! And to top it off instead of GRAVY I got BALSAMIC VINAIGRETTE!!!!!!! And as I'm typing this my other co-worker is telling me his rice is not fully cooked and there is still hard pieces in it! Ordered desert to go. BIG MISTAKE. We were dreaming of an apple strudel, peach cobbler, and a gooey double chocolate brownie. Instead we got an oily, flaky bread with more raisins than apples and no cinnamon flavor. The cobbler wasn't crisp- it was more of a gingerbread consistency with canned peaches. The brownie was the most dry, crumble apart brownie with semisweet chocolates and an overbearing amount of nuts. They need an entirely new desert menu. Not worth the calories. read more

This restaurant is pretty good. I sat at the booths and there was lots of tiny ants crawling on the walls which was pretty gross. Other than that the food was great! The Mac n cheese is so yummy and cheesy. The mashed potatoes are excellent as well as the fried okra. Chicken was nice and juicy. The rolls on the other hand were not great. Tasted like packaged frozen from grocery store. Butter was gross as well. Meal overall was great for price. Customer service was excellent the waiter was nice. My family and I went here to celebrate Father's Day. I heard good things and the reviews seemed positive. The menu is very eclectic and seems to have something for everyone. Upon arriving the waitress was initially attentive and promptly brought out drink orders, however it was all down hill from there. She collected our orders but failed to provide a child menu. By the time I received the menu, meals for others at our table were already being served. I figured at this point, we would never get his food and she never asked. I had ordered the salmon with crab and side of asparagus and sautéed vegetables. The salmon was over cooked and crab was most definitely frozen. It tasted and smelled fishy and turned my stomach. The butter sauce was lumpy and tasteless. I'm not sure how one can screw up sautéed vegetables other than just not cooking it at all. They literally tore off heads of broccoli and put it on the plate. It was completely raw and doused in a raw garlic sauce that burned my throat. The asparagus was soggy and appeared either boiled or frozen. Overall disgusting and disappointed. Thankfully I haven't gotten sick...yet. Upon leaving, the tickets were screwed up. At this point I just wanted to leave and accepted the error. The waitress said her shift was over and needed to leave to see her dad too. Fair enough! read more

Staff was nice, but thought we needed to seat ourselves because no one met us for a table. We were them seated directly in front of the service door even though many more tables were available. Keep getting bumped into during our meal. Food was under-seasoned and we felt it was a little over priced for what we received. We will go back for another try though. read more
