I love this restaurant and go there very often. Their fried shrimp is perfectly cooked. I get the Pork chops marinated in the Mayhaw Jelly sauce sometimes. It's delicious. Great "date night" out with hubby and my parents. We started the evening a bit chilly after arriving because it was chilly outside and felt like the ac was on in addition to the ceiling fans. However, when we mentioned it to our server, Ellie, she immediately let the manager know we were cold with jackets on. Promptly an employee came to turn off the ceiling fan over our table. This small act helped is enjoy our evening much better. We started with beer and wine and asked Ellie if we could just have some time to enjoy our drinks and have conversation. She accommodated, frequently checking on us to see if we needed refills, were ready to order and brought out those super yummy yeast rolls and butter. . I was skeptical about going to Ransom's, especially with a lot of pretend Texas steakhouses in the area. Now that I have been several times, it is the real deal. They serve their own beef from their own stockyard. With the price of beef so high, when you want to splurge you want the real deal. A good selection of cuts all prepared to order. I've e eaten at Ransom's a couple of times and it's always been good. I thought today that the Ransom's steak sandwich was very good! Great bun to start out with, then the funky shaved steak cooked to perfection and a side of Ajus for dipping. The fried onion on top with a side of steak fries is all you need and more for lunch. Ive been here a couple of times, i live walking distance from Ransoms. They are good, but not great. The burger is the best bang for your buck i do like the buns and toppings. The queso corn is good and the food is fresh. The staff is friendly and the ambience is of an old bbq joint. They often have live music and they always have cold beer. I will say it was one of the better meals I've had there. I had the scorpion tails appetizer and the wedge salad. My kids school happened to be right across the street so I peeped the yelp reviews and was VERY excited to see how well it was rated. Came here and fell in love! I finally tried Ransom's since I moved to Conroe (3 1/2 years ago) and I left feeling very disappointed. I've heard many good things about this place such as, "They have the best steaks around" or "Ransom's Steakhouse puts Texas Roadhouse/Saltgrass to shame". With all of those great things being said about this place, I naturally had to give it a shot. When you walk in you get the feel that this place is the definition of a steakhouse (at least in my eyes that's how I envision one). You instantly feel humidity in the air which is due to the side doors being ajar at all times. Im not sure what their reasoning is behind this but I personally do NOT like being hot while eating a hot meal. Our party ordered the following: Gator Bites - This appetizer is pretty good but could use some seasoning. 10Oz Ribeye (medium rare) - Cooked to the correct temperature but had ZERO flavor. We couldn't tell if they even put basic salt/pepper on this cut. This steak was served with a dipping sauce (I believe that's the correct term) which was tasty but I expect my steak to have flavor right off the bat. 12Oz Classic Texas Sirloin (medium rare) - Same as above steak. Waygu Hamburger Chopped Steak - Mediocre at best! Lacked seasoning and the gravy was watery. The sides ordered: Mac & Cheese - pretty average and the cheese was watery Mashed Potatoes - pretty average and again lacked seasoning The best part about my experience was the complementary rolls and the staff was nice/attentive. First off, not a great selection of steaks for a steakhouse, only 4 different kinds. Secondly, they are priced somewhat high for the area. About 50 miles north of Houston. The atmosphere was very pleasant in an old school bar/saloon feel. Very 'Texas' which is awesome. The staff was very friendly. It just seemed to too big of a deal to get an extra table in an open spot for a family of four. The one guy live band was too loud for dinner time (7pm) Had to talk loudly for those in my party to hear me at my table and we were at the opposite end of the patio area. On to the food: steak and sides they are just nothing special. For place that advertises as a steakhouse I would compare it some chain restaurants or some mom and pop 'diners' back home in the Northeast. My husband and I have lived in the area since 2011. We have been to Ransom's on more than one occasion. We did go this past week for lunch and we were very disappointed. My husband ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and opted to go with the dinner portion versus the lunch portion for $5.99 more. What you are seeing in this picture is what he had left. I did speak with the owner to give feedback and she indicated that the lunch portions are pre- and that the meat does shrink. Based on her statement. I'm wondering if they took a lunch portion cut, put extra batter on it and serve it as a dinner portion. She also indicated that she spoke with the staff and that the chicken fried steak took up the entire plate. That is great however, if there is very little meat is in it, then that is a fail. The funny thing is the amount of gravy that was given with the dinner was not enough for a dinner portion. We did ask for a little more and when we got home, we noticed we were charged $.50 for that. I chose to write this review because when I spoke with the owner, she was very defensive and not open to the feedback. I offered to send her these pictures and she said not to bother. She did make excuses regarding the quality of the food indicating that they have had to change things since Covid. From Michigan, and I wanted a good steakhouse experience. I wish I could say it was good, but I'd be a liar. It was a Sunday evening, no problem, right? I like my steak experience with a simple baked potato. "We ran out of potatoes, sorry. French fries? "Like I said, no potatoes left". Okay.........could we have some rolls? "Were out of rolls and bread" . OK, give me some soup and your best sirloin. "OK" Get the steak and its overcooked. So much for my Texas Steakhouse experience. Wow where do I start! My wife and I were new to the area and found on line. It was our anniversary and we wanted to have steak and a great time! Ransom is a local family restaurant with live entertainment. So we tried it out! We arrived and sat quickly - then we met Sarah what a treat! She was so awesome and made our Anniversary evening the best! Gave us recommendations that were spot on. Very attentive kept food coming at the right times! Waygu Steak was awesome a little over cooked more medium than medium rare! Shrimp appetizer's were good! Wish they had Fresh Raw oysters but it's Texas! Live entertainment was really good that evening! We will definitely come back to try more items on the Menu! Will be asking for Sarah table area! The food here is good and I wish I could give a good review of my experience. Two things about this place that are pathetic and need to change. 1. My daughter, who is older than the "kids menu" age but eats very little, wanted to order of the kids menu only to be told that she would have to pay $5 extra. She would still get the kids menu portion though. This is ridiculous! Give anyone that wants to eat off the kids menu the kids menu. It's a smaller portion for adults that do not eat much. 2. If you want to order a side salad as one of your sides, you have to pay full price. In other words, not like most places where you can sub a side with a salad for a 1.00 or so extra, not here. You have to get your two sides and pay the full $3.99 for a side salad. We stopped going to this place because of this backwoods way of thinking. Thought we would give it another chance and lo and behold, still lacking in common sense and customer service. Guess we will go to Phil's Roadhouse more often and give them the business. We also ordered pork chops , which were very good, and $18.00, that price didn't bother me. But the 12oz ribeye, which we ordered medium, came out beyond well done. My husband NEVER sends anything back, ever, so this piece of charcoal, $42. Was a huge disappointment. The flavor was good, and had it been cooked correctly, still would not have been worth $42, but as it ended up, huge letdown.
