We decided to try this place through Uber Eats. The food came nice and warm, packed great . I have an issue with food prep on my Mahi-mahi. It's my favorite fish and it was over cooked Also, my husband said the bone-in pork chop was average, he wouldn't order another one. The buffalo wings tasted like they were sitting there and then when I ordered they tossed sauce on them. Oh and for our side we requested spinach but received asparagus. I used to come here years ago for karaoke. This time I came for lunch, after checking the menu out online. I suppose everyone has their own idea of what comprises beef tips over rice, but what Pecos offered left me ambivalent. The salad was nice, and I was set for a nice lump of rice with a dark brown gravy and beef ladled onto the plate. Instead, it was more of a soup bowl, with rather clear liquid and celery and carrots and non-uniform chunks of beef. The taste of the beef was good, very tender as promised. But something was lacking. You have to dig to find the rice under it. And they serve it with a soup spoon. I wanted beef tips on a plate over rice, not really a gumbo soup concoction. That said, it was acceptable. Usually soup is served with a bread of some sort, or crackers. It was just lacking. But okay, it was off the lunch menu. The country music was a little loud and distracting for the quiet, midday clientele. My waitress brought my bill in one of those plastic folders, into which placed my card, and waited.. and waited.. and waited... Then I saw them. The dinner rolls with butter on a plate served by my waitress, across the room. That would have rounded out the lunch. I was going to ask her if they served rolls with my dish, so I would know for next time, but she was chatting with the two ladies to whom she had brought the rolls. Did I mention it was lunchtime? That usually means that people don't have a lot of time. Still waiting, watching my server have a wonderful chat with the buttered rolls ladies. Sat contemplating whether I was still hungry or just envious of the buttered rolls ladies. The chatting continued. The waiting continued. Now I was getting late to get back to work. At least ten wasted, roll-coveting minutes. From my vantage point, I couldn't see the front. I guessed that maybe I was supposed to pay at the front, so I brought the plastic bill folder with me. I asked the hostess where I could check out. She said my waitress would take care of it. I said that she was too busy sitting over there chatting. The hostess took my bill and disappeared. My waitress came after a minute and tried to blame me for not being there when she came to my table. That shaved a bit off her tip, to be honest. Now, the hostess knew that I was put out by the waitress, so why did she subject me to her again? So the food was good but left something to be desired. The service left a lot to be desired. But I'm not ready to give up on Pecos. There's chicken and dumplings yet to try. Ahh, but am I ready for more disappointment? Maybe I will try again in a few weeks. Had dinner with friends at the Pecos Grilling Co. in Tomball. Nice decor. Side salad with Ranch dressing was good & fresh. I had the ribeye which was juicy, tender & a perfect medium rare. The sautéed asparagus was not so good; very skinny so was tasteless, stringy & disappointing. Husband had the pork chops; he said they and his green beans were tasteless. Our friends enjoyed their dinners; fried shrimp for one and steak & shrimp for my girlfriend. My friend shared her battered & fried asparagus which was much better than the sautéed veggie. Pecos Grill is a little off the beaten path now that Tomball has that fancy freeway bypassing town. That commuter dream also sends you flying past a friendly local eatery. Went there recently for lunch on a Monday because I had forgotten that The Rib Tickler next door is closed on Mondays. Sounds terrible I know, but just keeping it honest folks. While I missed out on the best ribs in Northern Harris County, I did get to re-experience the dandy little joint that is Pecos Grilling Company. I've been the Pecos before but mostly to enjoy the bar with some locals. They tend to get a local crowd at happy hour. As we were being seated I saw this massive burger sitting in front of a man who had his eyes closed and head down. Thought to myself that is showing some love to your burger dude, then realized that he and his lovely lady were pausing to say grace. I need to work on that. Anyways, after seeing the burger that is where I headed. They bring you a hefty burger let me tell you. I don't recall the published weight, but it is sized well enough to prepare you for a long winters nap. There was a very nice mesquite grilled essence to this burger. I really enjoyed the open flame nature of the dish. Took the onion rings option and they were pretty decent. I've had better, but I've had a lot worse. I'm a bit of an onion ring snob. I judge them all by the standard that Willie's and Pappadeaux set for onion ring excellence. Michelle had the daily special of beef tips and noodles. I want to see the cow these tips came from, because the tips looked like mini pot roasts. Another massive plate of food and quite good. Folks, this is Texas food done in Texas proportions. Looks like mesquite grilled steaks is their primary thing. Our waitress was super friendly and concerned for our well being. She even offered to carry me back to my car after knocking down that cow they called a burger. Okay, I made that up, but the staff is gracious and friendly. Went for lunch. The chicken fried chicken was very good - breading not too thick, but enough of it. The large was just that - large. I got the spicy, which was just spicy enough without being too much. I like my mashed potatoes smooth and these were chunky, so not my favorite but still good. Corn was good, too. We tried this place because we got a gift card to here for Christmas. First and last time we will be eating here. We ordered the crab cakes which were still cold in the center. Also got the chips and queso and the queso was so thick like it had been sitting there for a while. I ordered the fried steak with gravy and green beans. We really truly wanted to like this place. For a family of three, dining with a young child, the atmosphere doesn't get much better. Casual, rustic, down-home feel with a large mural of horses on one wall, and plenty of space between tables. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who was happy to move us to a table near the "horse picture" when my little one requested to be closer. This was a huge bonus to us, and luckily the restaurant was mostly empty so it was not an imposition. Our waitress came out and she was kind. She answered questions and made suggestions about the large menu, which is made up of dishes that your southern grandma would present with pride. The choices are vast and across the board with everything from burgers, chicken fried steaks, salads, sea food and beyond. With an array of sides to boot. Sadly, the preparation of the food is what was the disappointment for our meal. We started with the fried mushrooms which were good, although a bit too greasy. The ranch tasted house made, not the bottled kind, so that was a big plus. We also tried a cup of the baked potato soup, which was the best thing that came out to our table. It was creamy, and topped with chives, cheese and bacon. After a dash of salt from the shaker on our table it was actually really good. Next our entrees came out, and that's where everything went downhill...and fast. The chicken fried steak was chewy and under-seasoned, the fried asparagus was to tough to bite cleanly through it, and the green beans had a weird "fishy" flavor as if they had been stored or cooked too close to the seafood. Our other entrée was the fried catfish, and although it tasted ok, it was far from anything special. I ordered it with sautéed asparagus and steak fries. The fries were on par, and cooked well, considering that they were the frozen kind. The sautéed asparagus was better than the fried, but again nothing great and a bit tough. Something from the meal left me with an unbearable garlic taste in my mouth that lingered for several hours, even after breath mints and brushing as soon as I returned home. So, basically, we loved the place, the servers and staff were friendly and welcoming, but the execution/preparation of the food was very poor. We might give it another shot, but definitely not rushing back anytime soon. We got there quite early, around 5:30ish p.m. and the place was already half full. We both ordered the Friday special - ribeye. His was medium with sweet potato fries and sautéed veggies, mine was well done with fried asparagus & whipped potatoes. Hubby enjoyed his meal, but he's easy to please. I had a beef with the whipped potatoes. There was too much pepper in it, to the point where no matter what I ate, all I could taste was pepper. Met a friend for lunch today. We both ordered the Diablo burger. Hearty burger. Wasn't as spicy as I expected but still tasty. Fries were decent, would have been better if they were twice fried. Our waiter seemed to be less than enthused to be at work. I ordered an ice tea, him a Dr Pepper. When our drinks arrived, we had to trade because we were given the wrong thing. He ordered his burger with out lettuce, tomato & onions. It came out with onions. Also, his plate was served to me, so we had to trade again. Our waiter made another visit to our table, made eye contact with both of us but said nothing then left. A few minutes later he returns and asked if I need a refill. He then brings me a "to go" cup. Love this place! One of my bridesmaids recently threw my engagement party here and it was the best place for it. The decor is very rustic but homey and is good for being casual or even a little dressy without feeling out-of-place. Their layout is perfect for events like this. When you walk in you are looking at the bar. To the left is the party room with two sets of French doors and to the right is the open regular dining which extends away from the front/bar. The only thing connecting the party room to the main dining room is a thin hallway for the restrooms behind the bar area. So we didn't feel like we had to keep quiet or were bothersome to other guests. Plus the easy bar and restroom access is great. The party room has volume controls for the music in case you want it a little quieter than the rest of the restaurant. It also has a TV if you want to connect something for display during your gathering. They will set up the room for you however you like and won't give you any hassle. They are very accommodating and very sweet. The owners are such nice people and the staff is great as well. Some reviews have been critical about the service but ours was nothing less than stellar. With a big group there is usually a lag on orders but the server never once took more than a couple of minutes to get us drinks. The wait time for food was the same as it would have been had it then a regular dining experience. I can't really say enough great things about this place! Prices are average for their lunch or dinner menu so go - NOW!!! read more

OK, first the rating.. I think Pecos is better than a 3, but I didn't think it was quite a four, so don't get it twisted, this is good food. I like the service, the servers are professional, knowledgeable, and they listen to how you want your food, and get it that way "on the side" if that's your thing Sally..! LOL It takes awhile to get you meal, which is probably a combination of its busy here and this not prepped food. A nice selection of Apps, Salads, and staple Meats, Chicken, and Poultry. All have a little twist to make them interesting and done well. Always have specials that are a good value for the early bird blue hairs.. There is a bar, u-shaped (20 seats) with large flat screen tv's and lively service. Overall, this very good place to bring business colleagues, a date, or family for a special occasion. read more

Sunday afternoon, parking lot mostly empty. Trash everywhere outside on the walk to the front door. Front door opens to the bar. Bartender facing the door doesn't look up, doesn't acknowledge arriving guests. Host stand not obvious to the front door, but the hostess sees us and doesn't greet us. Maybe 5 tables seated, all but one table in main dining room covered in dishes. At least three servers standing around. We were seated at the one clean table, next to the kitchen doors. We have tried really hard to like this place, we have been there 5 times. 4 out of those 5 times were a disappointment. We like to order top shelf Margaritas and they are a different price every time. No consistency on drink prices and as far as the other issues, it's something different every time. We once sat at the bar for 15 minutes before walking out. Another time we ordered a flatbread pizza with sauce, ham, 2 cheeses, and japs, and they brought us something with beef, mushrooms, red onion and barbecue sauce. Let me say freaking amazing! I had an 8oz New York strip steak and it had this wonderful smokey flavor. They cooked it perfectly medium rare which many restaurants can't seem to do these days. We have lived in the area for a long trip and finally made it in after a recommendation of their shrimp. Ended up eating other things. Everything was wonderful, staff was great and prices are very reasonable. We will definitely make it a go to spot. I've been going here for a long time. The food is basic, but it's always fresh and well prepared. I especially like the burgers and chicken fried steak. This is the third and last time I will eat at Pecos Grilling Co. in Tomball. First of all, my husband and I arrived at 11 am just when they opened. My husband went to use the men's room and said apparently someone had a "blowout" in the toilet, because it had excrement all over the seat. Mind you this was at opening in the morning. After eating I went to use the ladies bathroom and there was no toilet paper in the handicapped toilet area. I also noticed the the base of the adjacent toilet looked grungy, as if it has not been cleaned as is expected of any food establishment. Food isn't cheap at this restaurant, so I sure expected a nicer experience. Since this is considered a $$ restaurant, one would expect more attention to sanitation in all areas. I wonder what the kitchen looks like? The health department might just be giving them a visit soon.:( Now about the food: The Chicken Fried Steak was "mushy" according to my husband and my Shrimp and Crab (hah, it had one tablespoon of shredded crab meat) Alfredo was bland.
