I bought some succulents at Ace and within a few weeks, my entire HUGE succulent garden was decimated. Why? Because Ace sells plants that are infested with pests. Hundreds of dollars and hard work down the drain, I will never purchase another plant from Ace and I recommend everyone else follow suit unless you want your garden ruined. I cannot stress enough how upsetting this is to me. I had dozens and dozens of rare and hard to find succulents that I'd invested my time and money into, and they're all gone. The only new plants I brought into my garden were from Ace and once I discovered the pests it was a too late to save my garden. UPDATE: I went into the store today and asked the gal working behind the counter if they had anyone who checked the succulents for pests before putting them out for sale. She said "Barb does that so you can call tomorrow, she'll probably be here." Still standing right in front of her, I started to tell her that I'd bought 2 succulents that were the only new plants I brought into my garden and the mealy bugs that infested them destroyed most of my rare succulents...I got about 3 words into what I was saying when she glanced at me with disinterest, called the next customer, and completely ignored me. I'm disgusted and will be sharing this info with anyone who will listen. read more

I dread going to hardware stores when I know I'll need help to get certain things. Usually it takes forever to get any help, I often encounter people who are simply overworked and could no longer care about their job, along with a very high attrition rate which directly translates to a bunch of new not-yet-fully-trained people to the store who have no idea what they are doing. This Ace store is a glaring Exception to all that, and after going there for the last five years or so I feel compelled to write this review, as that's the least I could do. I never felt the staff were unhelpful, even in the middle of a pandemic they had plenty of people eager to help their customers. Pretty much every single time I have been there someone (or often three people) asked me if they can help me with finding anything. When I was not sure exactly what size/shape of a lock would fit my application, someone from the store grabbed a few and walked with me to the parking lot so I can try them out before buying anything just so I don't have to deal with the hassle of returning it later. There are many such examples, whoever is in charge of their hiring, and customer service/satisfaction deserves a gold medal. Btw, their selection of nuts and bolts is probably the largest in the entire Solano county, and last but not the least, they have delicious cookies and pies. read more

I called about soldering iron tips and received an almost instant call redirect, followed by a quick, friendly response, with the store associate telling me what they have on-hand and what aisle it can be found in when I arrive. This is my first Yelp review, and I felt obligated to share my positive feedback because most big box stores (Home Depot, Lowe's) have a somewhat frustratingly long automated phone service, followed by a long wait or an answering machine. When I called Pedrotti Ace, the store associate picked up the phone right away and got me exactly the information I needed. Also, I later looked online and found their web interface and inventory system to be intuitive and helpful. Please disregard the other one-star reviews. I read a few, as well as Gene P.'s response, and it's obvious that he and his team are doing their best and providing a valuable service and products that other big box stores cannot. I went to Home Depot a few weeks ago, and I was surprised to find they no longer carry name brand tools or equipment. Everything is HDX or some cheap, no-name, knockoff brand. I have boycooted Ace in Benicia for 10 years. I just started going back over there to purchase stuff for my job. I guess I'm going to have to boycott them again because they wouldn't let me return some powdered gloves that I purchased. It irritated my skin so I was going to exchange it for non powdered but they would not do the exchange. I had to make another purchase of the non powdered gloves. They could have just exchanged the gloves because it irritated my skin, my palm was so red from the powdered gloves. read more

I always feel stupid going into hardware stores because I'm not handy and I usually am starting a project with my sole knowledge coming from the internet, but the employees in this store are excellent, knowledgeable, and approachable. They make me feel welcome, especially an older gentleman who is particularly nice and helpful. Hi, I was in your store today looking for advice, products and tools in plumbing. I wish I thought to get the salesperson's name (young guy, dark sorta curly hair maybe 5'8" or so. Anyway, I'm an inexperienced DIY'er and I was trying to replace a toilet. My particular situation deviated too much from the YouTube videos I'd seen on the subject so I figured I needed parts either way so I'd come in, get them and see if personal advice could turn this situation around, otherwise I might have to give up and pay a pro at a minimum $280 I'm told. Your salesperson was very knowledgeable on the subject, helped point me to exactly what I'd need from a newer style foam seal vs a wax ring (which are gross) down to the size of the cement screws and found a set of drill bits on sale for me so I'd be ready for other jobs around the house. He even advised me on the right drill settings for the job. His product picks and advice definitely made the difference between success or failure on this project. Thank you for great service today. I was putting together patio furniture when I got to the last screw and ran an issue. No matter how hard I tried, the screw did not work. I took a picture of the patio sofa along with the screw and went to Ace in hopes to resolve the issue. Andrew assisted me, listened to my issue and showed my various options. He was very patient and helped me pick up another set of screws and washers. He also recommended an alternate spray to Scotchgard to protect the cushions. The new screws and washer worked ! I went into Pedrotti Ace Hardware in Benicia the other day with two items that were defective. I had bought them over a month ago and I did not have the receipt anymore however I did buy them using my Ace rewards card. I thought for sure the best I would get would be a store credit if they allowed me to return the items at all. Not only did the clerk behind the counter help me find the receipt in the computer and print it out for me but she also helped me return the items and suggest two other products that may be as good and even cheaper. People say you spend more at Pedrotti Ace hardware in Benicia than Lowe's or Home Depot but the service is always outstanding and is worth the extra cost. Pedrotti's really is Benicia's one-stop-shop for all things home-fixing. The service is really great - probably because Gene Pedrotti runs that shop like the effing Gestapo. I like being able to stop in somewhere close without crossing the bridge or venturing over to Vallejo...and Pedrottis is definitely good for that. Kinda annoying when you walk in the door and by the time you reach the back aisles, 6 associates have asked if you need help.....ummm, and again - no. Im good. No really...I'm good. As a brown person, I've rarely been asked for help. Like the white person next to me will be asked if they need help, while I'm totally ignored until I've been in the store for a really long time and they probably think I'm stealing. I don't know how helpful the workers are there at answering technical questions for DIYers. I did once ask where the box cutters were, but got directed to the utility knives, which was the wrong place. They do have box cutters, but they are no where near the utility knives, and are by the front counter. My wife had the same problem when she went there for garden stakes. No one knew where they were, but she ended up finding them by herself. If you go in the store and need to leave without buying something, it's really awkward, because you have to go around this huge maze to get out. It seems like a fire hazard to me. The counter people do smile, are polite, and always make sure you get your ace hardware points. After striking out multiple times on finding what I was looking for or after being gouged on price for the slight convenience of their location, I mostly just driver slightly farther to go to Lowe's now. read more

I go to a hardware store at least once a week for some construction project I'm working on, and Pedrotti is the closest. The customer service seems friendly and helpful. That said, I've rarely gone in there and been able to find what I'm looking for. Most of the time I'm told by an employee that they just don't carry it and can't special order it. I'm not talking about difficult to find items, but rather items that should be common in all hardware stores. I've even overheard them telling other customers that they don't carry and can't special order items that are in the weekly mailers. And if I do find what I'm looking for it is almost always more expensive than the exact same product at other hardware stores. In this economy costs are everything, regardless of your customer service. read more

I called today and Fatima answered. I told her I was interested in mounting an American flag on the wooden beam in front of my house. Fatima told me that they have everything in stock from the flag to the rods and the mounting piece that goes on the pole. I said "wonderful, I will be down this afternoon." We recently bought an patiio umbrella for $29.00 on sale. After only 2 wks, one of the arms broke so my husband tried to exchange it. He was told the item was no longer on sale and he would have to pay the $20 difference. He asked for a Manager thinking that the salesperson had to be mistaken. How could they possibly expect us to pay the difference for a defective item? It should be noted that I saw this same umbrella being returned for same reason by another customer the previous day. He didn't mention that they made him pay and I don't think they did. Regardless, what kind of customer service is this??? So in the end, my husband requested a full refund and left with no umbrella. I recently bought a house in Benicia and went to this store to get a few items. I ended up getting about $50 worth of things and proceeded to pay for them. While ringing me up, the cashier asked if I wanted to join their premier club (like a safeway club card I guess). She tells me I will receive 10% everything. I asked her 10% off everything I purchase today? She tells me yes. I said sure, sign up me. Since I was getting 10% off everything, I asked if I could go run and get one more thing. I go and get the leaf blower I had my eye on because it made perfect sense to buy it that day since I was getting 10% off. I bring it back up to the counter and give it to the cashier. She gets a manager to key in the 10% off in the register. After he leaves, she tells me I would not be getting 10% off the leaf blower because I got it after she had told me. By this time, a line was starting to build and I did not want to be that annoying customer who is arguing and holding up the line. The cashier seemed to not have a care in the world so I ended up buying the leaf blower anyways and left the store frustrated. Why tell me one thing, get me to buy it but suddenly go back on what you just said? I do not like to give my business to stores that have those types of tricks up their sleeves and I thought this was not one of those stores. I ended up writing to corporate about this to voice my complaint and now 3 weeks later, have not heard anything back from them. As a result of my first impression at this store, I will be turning to home depot or lowes for my next hardware need. read more

I think this place is just the right size. It's not enormous like Home Depot where you get lost looking for things and it's not dinky tiny where you can't find what you're looking for. I come here often for my gardening supplies and I say often because my poor herbs keep dying on me since I keep forgetting to water them... oopsies... :) The workers here are friendly and helpful. The other day I was in and this worker just walked up and down the aisles greeting everyone and asking if they found what they were looking for.
