The WiFi is acceptable. For Irvine, that is mandatory at minimum, especially being this close to University of California Irvine. Came in here recently on a work from home day as I had an errand earlier that day to run. After finding a table close to a power AC outlet, I plugged my laptop in and started crunching some infrastructure-as-code. This cafe is well ventilated which is really important during hot Irvine summers, which speaks to how well the HVAC systems are here. That's a damn good thing. Located in University Center, if you need to stand up for a stretch break, there are plenty of places to swing by nearby, including but not limited to: Eureka, Gen Grill, Amazon Prime at Irvine, Slap Fish, Blaze Pizza, even a United States Post Office! There are options a-plenty here. Drinks here are ok. Noticed I saved drinks for last? It's actually not anything spectacular but nothing terrible either. I love stopping by this place after my morning runs on the UCI campus. I prefer this coffee to Starbucks for most of my drinks including the ice blended beverages. It's neatly tucked away in the UCI plaza so lots of students and young people. Always good people watching. It's a really relaxing atmosphere and there are good places around if you're looking for a quick place to eat. I wish there were more Peet's locations around. After years of buying Peets since their old Vine Street, Berkeley shop, I quit! Major Dickenson's was my favorite many years ago, but a couple of years ago, I was out of coffee so I bought the 2 pound bag at Costco. I think I dumped a bunch of the beans! Their coffee started tasting bitter to me, and it was not my grinder that I cleaned and confirmed with other brands. They also screwed me on delivery of beans that never arrived even though they charged my card. Their Customer Support is now in India, which made matters worse. Their shops are trashy now; their employees are either inept, inattentive, rude, complascent, or all of the above! Bye, Bye Peets! There are much better local brewers in the Bay Area. I think that a German investment company acquiring Peets aroung 2012--killed them. It's still better than Starbucks that tastes burnt, but not much better. read more

Was immediately greeted upon arrival and the barista was friendly and accommodating. However, I did ask for light ice (I've asked for light ice at this location before, although that was through a mobile order) and when I received my drink, it was 75% ice. I took out all of the ice in my drink when I got home and was pretty disappointed to see that the actual drink didn't even come up to the halfway mark of the cup. Spending over $5 for a drink that was like this is no bueno. I love Peet's so this time was just maybe an off day, but I'll be hesitant to order iced drinks from here for a little while. I came in to order my usual shaker, and the girl assisting me gave me a very unsettling attitude. Maybe it was because i had my airpod in while ordering (which was not in use, I paused my music before ordering) and I happened to not hear what she said. I ordered a muffin as well. She ended up placing the muffin in front of the counter which I was standing near instead of providing good customer service and handing it to me. Let me just say, we all have our days, personally I understand the frustration our food service workers undergo, but it is not an excuse for treating people with disrespect. I found myself in need of a place to sit at 6:00 and this was the only place open. It's a nice place to hang out and begin your day. I was by far not the first person to arrive. My normal drink is a Mocha, I saw that they had a "Javiva" --cold brew-- mocha and thought I would give it a try. It is very sweet, possibly a little too sweet for me. But what was I expecting from a Mocha? Service was good, possibly a little slow, but they only have two people working this early in the morning. They apologized for making me wait, though honestly, I didn't really think anything of the wait. It was barely a wait. Music is nice. Plenty of outlets. Never been inside a Peet's before, I was unsure about what to get, so unsure that I practically asked the cashier to order for me. She stated that the most popular drink was the Iced Caramel macchiato ($4.20 for a small) and so I went with that. In a moment's notice the drink came out. It tasted like a standard coffee, nothing too special and it could have definitely used a stronger dose of caramel. I would imagine this place to be a nice study area as all the tables were occupied by students even past 8PM. It's cute and comfortable, but I'm not too sure how the wifi is. Peets has a few things going for it. First of all, it's not a Starbucks. We were in this area for a late dinner. I was cold and wanted something warm. I was also craving something sweet and Peets has some decent bakery selections that don't disappoint. To my surprise, it was also open late - until 11pm. That is unheard of in OC! Win/win! The baristas were chatty and friendly. I love to order the masala chai tea at Peets because there's actually a kick to it vs the Americanized sweet stuff elsewhere a.k.a starcrap. I was 2nd in line and waited about 15 minutes before I walked out the door in frustration. Yes I left without ever getting to the front of the line. Keep in mind - I WAS 2nd in LINE!!!! There was only one cashier open with 3 cashiers surrounding it, trying to figure out the machine. Looked like a bunch of newbie baristas. Why wasn't any of the other machines open?? In the process, they barely acknowledged the customers or even apologized for the wait. The inside was cramped with nowhere to sit. Usually the coffee is good and the bakery items are delicious but it's just not a good place to study. The tables and couches are usually dirty, there aren't a lot of outlets, the vent or whatever near one of the doors makes an intolerably loud noise whenever someone enters or exits, and overall, it's just way too crowded. I do frequent other, more mainstream, coffee places like Starbucks or The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf so Peet's never crossed my mind as a coffee place that I'd ever visit. However, I really liked it! I arrived in the morning to wait for my girlfriend to get out of class. I took the time to look through the menu and other recommendations on Yelp, and I saw the Iced Caramel Macchiato. I don't usually order strong-coffee-flavored drinks but I took a leap of faith. What I got was a sweet-tasting cold coffee that brightened up my morning. I felt like a person who actually drinks coffee in the morning, and not a basic white girl that takes Instagram pictures of her coffee, no offense to them. I'm usually a Starbucks regular but Peets is pretty good ! The brew is a bit stronger in flavor than Starbucks. I usually prefer a milder taste but my mom LOVES the hot coffee here and I have to say , trying their vanilla iced coffee on a whim was pretty good :) a little on the sweet side (which is fine for me) but they'll of course adjust it ! The environment is pretty chill, for lack of a better word. It's close to UCI so a lot of college students just studying or passing time. But regardless it's not super loud for music or anything and patrons seem to be just relaxing. Good vibe. Also the staff is really nice ! I told the cashier I don't usually come here so I wasn't sure what I wanted but she was really nice and started offering me different items for different tastes . But I chose the iced coffee to play it safe. Not disappointed though! BUT giving 3 stars because the price is about the same as Starbucks for example but they charge extra for all syrups other than classic. Also, they lack plentiful outlets to use . Peet's coffee oh how much I love your dark roasts. I've been coming to this Peet's coffee for over a year now and I must say that I have yet to have a bad experience. Peet's coffee has found a very special place in my heart as the one coffee shop that never ceases to deliver quality cup after cup. The perfect balance of the proper water temperature, coffee ground size and brew time produces an absolutely delectable full body cup of coffee. One of the noticeable differences I should note about my experiences with Peet's coffee as well as their espresso is the complete absence of a headache post caffeine come down. I am assuming this is related to the roasting techniques as well as any potential impurities or preservatives that are used with other coffee brands. This Peet's coffee is nicely situated at the forefront of the University Town Center (UTC) nearby UCI which lends itself to an exam cramming hot spot. With their complimentary Wi-Fi, comfortable cozy interior, and spot on caffeinated beverages one could wonder how you would ever leave. Hungry? No worries, they have you covered with somewhat reasonably priced pastries that are always fresh and well varied. I have recently found myself addicted beyond belief to their tri-berry scone. Two moist sweet slices of scone bread sandwiching a well-balanced combination of blueberries , blackberries and raspberries. The tri-berry scone has indeed become my new favorite morning ritual that will drive me to bankruptcy until I learn how to bake them for myself (working on it). Would I recommend Peet's coffee? Most definitely Yes. Even for their frou frou drinks ;) Would I suggest you try other coffee shops to see what fits your mind, heart and soul? Yes of course, that would be incredibly rude of me to impose my coffee snob opinion on you without you having a fair judgment call. I love Peets. They're always consistent with their coffees and teas. I come here to study, to relax, to read, to write, to temporarily escape from reality, and last but not least, the amazing cold brew, americanos, matcha green tea latte, mighty leaf teas, lattes, javivas, and pretty much everything. I've literally tried everything on the menu (my regular is usually cold brew or hot americanos). Oh yeah, the chocolate croissants are delicious. They can't warm them up but they don't need to be warmed up because they are simply scrumptious and divine. Consistent, quality drinks and snacks. They open early and close late, too! The only dilemma, if there chooses to be one, is that it's almost always packed throughout the day and it often becomes quite challenging to find seats. I'm extremely picky and spoiled when it comes to my coffee because growing up, my dad always ground the coffee beans and brewed it right away. I came to Peet's on a whim. The cashier was really nice. I ordered a cafe au lait because I didn't know what else to order. It was DELICIOUS! Sorry for being prissy but I forgot to order it non fat but.. I came back again on finals morning and the cashier actually remembered my name :) I ordered the cafe au lait, non fat this time and it didn't take away from the taste which proved to me that Peet's was legit haha And I tried a pastry ..a chocolate chip coffee cake or something? It was soft and fresh unlike starbucks. It complimented my cafe au lait perfectly (i don't add sugar haha) The baristas are extremely fast too. I have a new favorite coffee place now :) read more

Ah, I love Peet's! Their Mocha Freddo, that is. I'm giving this coffee shop three stars -- all for the taste. I've had their Mocha Freddo, Cafe Freddo, Hibiscus Iced Tea, and hot tea (from tea leaves). Out of all the Mocha drinks I've had, I enjoy their Mocha Freddo by far -- the mocha is more subtle, so it's not too obnoxiously strong when you take your first sip. You can see the ground pieces of coffee beans in there, too, giving an extra delightful taste and nice crunch every now and then! No headaches, either! So why the -2 stars? Service, space, and prices. Service is okay, they get the job done, but there are just too few employees working behind the counter. Not to mention that there is only one cash register, so the lines can get extremely long, extremely fast. Spacing. There's hardly any space in here! The tables are organized in an odd way, making it hard to weave across the shop. Only a few outlets are available for laptop-users as well, though I do give them props for their internet availability. And, this place is full of adults and UCI students, making it constantly packed. Think it would be much better if larger tables were available, or perhaps chair organization was redone. Prices are a bit on the expensive side, unless you buy an iced tea. But despite all that, I love the drinks! Keep 'em coming. read more

If you're a big tea fan - I'd choose Peet's for their tea selection and because they'll brew any blend for you hot and ready to order! The freddo was very smooth, none of that "wtf, why is there a huge ice chuck in my drink that I can't slurp up through my straw moments". It was a little bit sweet, but its manageable. The hot chocolate was really tasty as well. The half white/milk chocolate goes really well with the peppermint flavorings. It's like Christmas in my mouth. Peet's Coffee is much better than Starbucks. The coffee is fresher and much more flavorful. I particularly like their mochas, hot or iced. Their baked goods are tasty too, and they even have some vegan ones. Part of the reason their coffee is better is that they use manual espresso machines instead of automatic ones. This means the coffee takes longer to make. I understand that, and I am willing to wait for good coffee. However, the reason I am not giving this Peet's 5 stars is that they don't have enough people working during busy times and the lines get way too long. They should know that Saturday mornings are going to be busy with a farmer's market in the shopping center they are in, yet they had only one person at the registers, one or two making coffee, and one doing who knows what (mostly standing around). If they could improve their wait times during busy times I would gladly give them five stars, as they are an ideal coffee place in all other ways. read more

The line wasn't as bad as I thought it would be since I heard that this place is always crowded. The employees are super nice and patient, and I got my drink in less than 5 minutes. The only major downside I can think of for this place is that it's typically packed, so it can be hard to find somewhere to sit. Also, if you are picky about the amount/ type of milk in your beverage, be sure to tell them clearly what you want since they add it in the drink for you. My college friends used to think that Coffee Bean's were the worst drink to ever give me because it made me really caffeinated and sugar-high -- much like the squirrel from the Over The Hedge movie -- UNTIL we finally tried this establishment. Because hot damn. These drinks are STRONG. There's nothing short of brilliance when their drinks here are all primarily rich and strong; this is the drink that I want to have when I need energy from caffeine and sugar. Drinks here aren't generally super sweet/sugary like Starbucks/Coffee Bean drinks Perfect for winter weather! The staff at this location have always been extremely friendly from my experience, and the inside is clean and cozy as it should be. The workers are attentive and keep everything well stocked. The coffee is a much stronger brew and, in my opinion, a much more robust and quality coffee compared to Starbucks.
