I go to Peets for a baked treat along with my latte. At a previous visit I ordered a maple walnut scone, which was dry and had very little frosting compared to maybe pre-Covid. So today I ordered the frosted cinnamon roll instead. It was maybe three days old, very dry. Even nuking it at home and topping it with cinnamon didn't help. My latte was pretty weak also. read more

The new decor and high tech warehouse look is wonderful and the customers are really nice too. I am a patient of Peet's and especially the one on lakeshore avenue. But since my experience with the workers. I am refusing to ever go back. The cashier was rude and had major attitude. Poor customer service skills and was concerned with a conversation with another worker. I asked to speak to a manger or supervisor a lady with a broom came out from behind the counter and would not provide me with a name. No name tags nothing on their apron. My daughters and I was mistreated by the cashier and the so called manager. I have even complained to the main office of Peet's and all I was told was they will offer me a free cup of coffee. That's not what I want. I need to speak to a manager or district manager and that was not offered and instead my complaint ticket was closed. I refused to walk in or thru the store now. A cup of scalding hot liquid might not be the most effective vehicle for delivering caffeine into the central nervous system, but 9 times out of ten it's the one I prefer. The other being mainlining it directly into my veins like some sort of whacked out junkie...but that's a story for another review. Peet's is the perfect place to get your fix. This morning while standing in line I saw a few different types of caffeine junkies. The Purist: This guy likes his coffee strong and black. Don't muddle it down with additives. To do so would be a huge slap in the face to the coffee Gods. He scoffs at the wimps and wusses that add milk or sugar to their coffee. He feels that those who use non-dairy creamer and Splenda should just give up their coffee drinker's card. Sure he's shaking violently and frothing at the mouth from too much caffeine consumption, but he loves his java. The Cream and Sugar-ist: She's probably the worst type of coffee drinker. She doesn't want anything too flavorful or too strong. Every coffee she buys is liberally dosed with large amounts of cream and sugar, thereby nullifying the point of consuming coffee. The concoction left in her cup when she's done is white and sweet and bears little to no resemblance to the ambrosial nectar called coffee. The Tea-Total-ist: Watch out for this guy, he thinks that just because he is drinking tea instead of coffee that he is somehow more relaxed than the typical java-fiend. What his hipster demeanor doesn't portray is the fact that he's drinking black tea from the minute he gets up in the morning to the time he goes to bed at night. By the time he gets to Peet's, he's already on his fourth cup and is slightly jittery and agitated...stay out of his way, he could snap at any minute. Stop by this Peet's on any given morning and you'll see these caffeine addicts too. read more

*yawwwn* Woke up in Tokyo today (Saturday a.m.) and it's still Saturday. That's because the Earth is flat and so time is distorted - I feel like I've popped through a tesseract and back into the Yelpisphere, jet-lagged and caffeinated. I have been off carbonation and caffeine for 10+ years and have always felt a bit... sympathetic and superior to those who must rely upon their morning, midday and midnight caffeine fix. However, I while in Japan, I was seduced by the ubiquitous vending machines and am completely hooked on what I shall call a "gateway beverage" of [Royal] Milk Tea. At first, it seemed like a good idea, to synch up with the time-zone in the Land of the Rising Sun... just a few sips of a benign, creamy, sweet "pick me up" drink to ward off that Lost in Translation Syndrome. By day three, my eyes were darting around like a capuchin monkey on crack, scrambling for the reassuring presence (you can't go more than seven feet without passing one) of a vending machine carrying my poison of choice. I think it's the law in Japan that even in the most quaint and remote areas, there must be bottled Milk Tea for sale. Today, I cashed in my Ten Year Chip at Peet's. Yes, I ordered a Large English Breakfast Tea, and slunk off to the sidebar to dump several obscene glugs of WHOLE milk and stir in along with long, generous lashings of sugar. Service was quick and non-judgemental (I think) because I ordered such a pedestrian beverage. But my hands and tummy were quickly warmed by the sweet comfort of something both foreign and familiar all at once. It was a very Angela's Ashes moment. read more

Should any Peet's be worthy of more than three stars? Or less? They're perfectly functional and decent coffee shops, right? Yeah. Nothing special. Not bad. Not good. This is my local Peet's (yeah, stalk me!) and I really don't get into it much, to be honest. I shuffled in here early yesterday afternoon with my friend, each of us looking like we'd been hit by a truck or two after an impromptu road trip the night before. It was hot outside. I love you, global warming! I ordered an iced latte and I think he said "fuck the heat" and just got a coffee. Girl at the register FREAKED ME OUT. I felt like I was on some sort of bad acid trip dealing with her. She kept staring me down, as if she either wanted to kill me or fuck me. Maybe she wanted to hate-fuck me? I'm not quite sure. Me: Hi! Girl: Hey..... *stares* Me: Um, how's it going? Girl: Fine. *glares* (note: I'm about 5'6" or so. My friend that was with me is 6'3" perhaps. This girl towered over both of us. I'm not sure if the floor behind the register is raised, but it was a quite scary visual.) Me: Can I get a small iced latte? Oh, with an extra shot of espresso? Girl: So you want a DOUBLE? Me: Yeah, I guess...? Girl: *icy stare* Me: *sensing she's mad, and deciding to push it because I'm a bitch like that* Can I get soy milk in it? Girl: $3.50! She was like the Soup Nazi. But taller. And her beard was a little bit lighter. The barista dude was pretty nice, and even told me to "Have a nice day" when he handed me my drink. It was filled to the brim, and I like that about a barista. I want my cup to be overflowing with delicious caffeine. But, really....I was slightly traumatized by this experience. read more

If you bring a stroller into this Peet's, you should have to pay for the coffee of the people in front and in back of you, because you are really fucking with our vibe. The coffee is strong. To me it's tasty. Some people don't like it. Those people should not be trusted. I like this Peet's, it's usually crowded, full of a great eclectic mix of neighborhood folks and the counter people are generally the classic "detatched poor hipster barista types" who seem to despise the clientele. I prefer that to the Corporate KoolAid drinking Starbucks workers... and somhow the wage slave spite at Peets adds a welcome bitterness to the brew. If you happen to sit on the benches inside while waiting for a fancy coffee drink, you quickly learn that there are a lot more ass shapes in the world than you thought there were. Also, is there a Peet's that has good traffic flow? Who plans these store layouts? Put in a coffee delivery window... make people go outside and get their drink through the window. Better yet, have two lines. One for people who have already made up their mind and just want to get the hell out of the store... and a second line for everyone else: stroller people, medium in a large cup people, I'm still reading the menu people and the people that get in the drink line and decide that they want more information about where Peet's gets their coffee beans. read more

Ot gets three stars. It takes a lot for a corporate location to get anything higher than that from me because it's pretty rare that they are doing anything to really wow me as a customer and they haveplenty of customers to sustain their business. It's a coffee shop in a location with lots of foot traffic. As it is located next to Trader Joe's and in the Lakeshore area, it gets to be quite busy. I've been to his location during the morning, evening, and weekends and there's always people there. Don't worry, the transient people in front are pretty harmless. You'll likely wait in line, order a drink, take it, and go. Standard. I've true working there before and the wifi is super spotty. You call it a first world problem, I call it awful since I can't get anything done when my sole purpose for being there is to work. read more

In the "Peets vs Starbucks" controversy, I land proudly on the PEETS side. This location and several others are my regular haunts and consistently good. Here is why they win my business: 1) The coffee is always great. They serve dark, full-bodied, rich coffee every day. 2) You don't have to speak a foreign language (like Starbuckian) to get the size you want. You don't have to remember anything but small, medium and large to be served. Frankly, sometimes when I get coffee I am tired and can't remember what a "vente" is and the Starbucks folks can get pretty huffy if you don't order in their language. 3) The deep, dark coffee smell makes me happy. 4) The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. They appear to actually LIKE coffee and customers. Whew! So fair well to all Starbucks. I won't be stopping in unless there is no Peets in that town. read more

Would it kill you to make a sign that indicates where the line is? The place is basically in a hallway; there are three different registers, one of which is usually open. There are two entrances, one in the front and one in the back. People are standing around throughout the store. Spoiler alert: there is a line and it starts in the back of the store. How do I know this? Because the irritable staff pointed it out to me when I walked up to the open register. If you have time to set up all those displays of fancy teapots, you have time to make a sign to indicate which one of those groups of people standing around are in line. Perhaps you could set up some ropes to separate the line from the rest of the people standing around. You should at least consider customer service training for your staff. read more

Generally, I'm a fan and your average Peet's will get 4 stars from me. And the coffee here is as good as the rest...and the folks who works here have always been cool by me too. But, because I'm a weekender, I've never been here and not found a long azz line. The cramped quarters and extremely limited seating don't help things. I'm really a lover not a hater, but I must admit, this location drives me crazy. I only come here when I drop my daughter off for a play date up the street and I have a hard time passing up this Peet's when I drive by (especially in the morning if I have time to kill). This is probably one of the busiest Peet's I have been to. Probably one of the most eclectic crowd as well, and man, I ALWAYS feel dirty and claustrophobic when I visit here. Imagine standing in a long hallway with people passing on one side and lots of commotion on the other side. This sums it up. Plus the milk/sugar bar is at the end, but the lids and the milk are far from each other. Luckily, I am not shy, so I can do the milk/splenda/stir stick/lid dance while talking to strangers with ease... Expand your horizons or at least this store! Oh yeah, and a smile goes a loooonnnnggg way when you are working behind the counter. read more

One of their staff called me an idiot today. For what I am not sure. I guess I am an idiot for continuing to frequent this place. They are always out of stock. Today I ordered a medium cup of plainly brewed coffee and was told there would be a wait because they ran out. There was not a line in front of me or behind me, and their lobby and outside bench were pretty empty. So why a coffeehouse was out of basic brewed coffee is beyond me. As I walked away sans coffee, I was called an idiot. I have gone to this place way too many times to find it out of stock of this or that and then some. The staff is anything but friendly especially one particular male cashier, but overall the entire staff seems to be unhappy with their tasks at hand. They may be efficient, but grumpy and rarely smiling. They do have good coffee and your standard fare of food for a coffee house. But again they are more often than not out of half of the stuff they sell regularly. So hopefully I can find a different place in the neighborhood to get a good cup of coffee because I can certainly do without the poor outright insulting customer service, obviously lacking management skills and the randomness with which they are stocked. read more

Last visit was on Saturday at 2PM after I wobbled over from a huge lunch at Flipside. I have stopped in a few times to grab a quick coffee or to purchase a pound of fresh grounds to enjoy at home. The staff is always friendly and service is fast. This location is always busy no matter when I have visited. Only negative is that it is a little dirty. On my last visit over the weekend there were wrappers on the floor, left over used napkins on the counter and the condiment coffee station needed to be restocked and wiped down. read more

At no point did the lady at the register ask me if i want my ice coffee sweet or not, it came out bitter, but there was no sweeterner or sugar water, all they had was sugar, how the fck is the sugar suppose to melt in an ice coffee. lazy dumb fck folk! read more

this is my neighborhood Peets and I love it but I gotta agree with some of the other Yelpers about this place.. I have never come across a more unfriendly pissed off bunch of Peets workers. They kinda scare me sometimes. Should I feel guilty for ordering a cup of coffee? I saw the manager start yelling over the counter at some lady, ordering her to get out.. when the lady tried to explain her situation the manager would hear nothing of it and continued berating her in front of a packed house. Whatever she'd done (not much from what I can tell) it may be a good idea to keep the staff from sampling the goods.. still I love this place read more

I've told myself a thousand times that caffeine is not good for me, that it makes me jittery, that drinking tea is a much better option. But somedays I cannot make it at work without it. This Peet's always saves the day. Pretty efficient with friendly enough staff. I have seen a couple crazy folks in there though. Like the woman who said she'd kill me for pointing her to the tops that she was looking for (Don't you know I WILL kill you?!"). Then again, she did say that she had God's jaw. No fault of Peet's, but crazy people plus really strong coffee make me a bit paranoid. read more

My husband and I go to this location at least three times a week and love it. They always have the same workers who are so happy and friendly. It is like going to a neighborhood coffee shop. I am a coffee snob, and they rarely burn the expresso. The only downside is they have a horrible seating arrangement. If you want to come and hang out there are not many options. read more

Of course the coffee here is divine, because it's Peet's! The biggest drawback to this location is that it tends to draw people asking for money and/or selling the Street Spirit for money. Don't get me wrong....I am sure that living on the street is not the most fun thing ever. But, and this is why some people think I'm turning into a Republican, I do not like to be accosted for money before I get my caffeine. In all fairness, it's not just street people - I don't want to pay my bills before I've had coffee either. Try not to feel self-conscious in hobo attire as hip cashier takes payment. Leave with happy smile, coffee in one hand and citrus bread in the other. This is a great - get in line, get your drink, and get out - location. I love it. Don't come in expecting any tables. There's bar space for five stools and two benches for waiting. This Peet's carries a fair amount of teas too! Oh, and Peet's sells Simplex kettles for about $20 less than Williams-Sonoma. They usually keep one or two in stock here. read more

I would give a 5 star review to this place but what stopped me is the fact that this place lacks a baby changing table in the restrooms. I am a regular here and so are many of my friends. We come here everyday with my 3 months old baby but every time I have to change my baby's diaper I have to go to Trader Joe's bathroom. once i was having a bad day and my boyfriend was out of town so i decided to go for a walk. and i walked from the farmer's market to peet's for a little caffeine pick-me-up. And when i get to the register to buy a cup of iced coffee, the cute tall bearded dude at the register does the "don't i know you from somewhere" routine, even though i clearly don't know him. and i go to pay the 1.35 or whatnot for my coffee and he smiles and says, its on the house. and hands me my coffee. upon which he makes my entire day. so i add the milk n sugar and go to tip a dollar. and try to casually give him the "thanks-for-making-my-day-i-have-a-boyfriend-half flirt-smile, which i pull off pretty successfully. then turn around and walk right smack into an old man waiting to order his coffee. i'm such a klutz. thanks for making my day, Peet! also, good coffee. read more

Have been coming to this Peets for over 20 years. It has always felt like a warm and inviting neighborhood coffee shop. While I am glad that the remodel will provide more seating, I find the interior tile cold and institutional and very uninviting, and the service is painfully slow. I witnessed a man (call him Bob) jump out of line and call out another man (Psycho) who took milk and cream from the shared canisters, swish them around in his own used cup, and pour them back into the shared canisters. Psycho then sat down to watch other people use it. Bob saw this happen and confronted Psycho, who then proceeded to get pretty agro about all of it. The male, bearded, barista (call him Moron) stepped in and told Bob that Pyscho came to the store all the time, and that he has been mildly harassing people, but that it's nothing out of the ordinary. Bob had a dog with him which ran out the door, so he bailed, and at that point I Just got up and left. But Moron did nothing about it, and Psycho was not asked to leave. This is all going on during the coronavirus. I will never step in this store again. This is 3/15/20 around Noon. read more
