I'm a big Peets fan from way back (there was one a block from my elementary school, so I started early), but this doesn't really feel like the average Peet's. Maybe it's laid out funny, or it's too spacious or something. It feels a little like an airline ticket counter with a Peets jacket on. But it's still a Peet's, with their friendly, sassy baristas and trans fat free pastries and delicious coffee. Only this one is downtown, for when you need a refuge from the 9-5 misery. read more

This establishment really has it together. I've never seen such well oiled coffee making machines in my life ...and I DO mean the people. They have this computer system that relays your drink order to the Barristas; one is making the shots, another is making the foam, and the last person is the "finisher," as I like to call him/her. This was a very well organized peets location, on a rainy saturday san francisco morning there was a line out the door and half way into the hall. OMG, I had the worst tasting latte in my LIFE at this place. did the lady NOT know how to make the drink I ordered?! i have never not finished my cup, but this time, i couldn't even get through a quarter of it. This is my favorite Peet's in all of San Francisco. The staff is great and they never screw up an order. Don't be dismayed if you show up and the line is 12 people deep with another 10 waiting for lattes. If there is one Peet's crew in the city that can move a long line quickly, it is this one. This Peets soothed my nerves this morning before I reported for my new job. Lots of people line up here in the morning and also walk by so there is plenty of people watching to be done. The drinks are made fast. The female barista with bandana and upper arm tattoo is infectiously cheerful. The only drawbacks are that there is no cushy seating and there is a bit of a wait to order, but with three people taking orders they're really doing the best they can. read more

I come here almost every day, it's a destination for me. The staff is skilled and efficient, and even more importantly, authentically welcoming. All of them, every single one (I'm not exaggerating), are interesting and charming. If you like to people watch, sitting with your coffee at one of the tables outside can't be beat as a way of getting a pulse on the busy SF Financial District. Really inconsistent, not to mention my simple order routinely gets screwed up. On occassion they get it perfect...but usually not. If you think you need to specify your order because you like it slightly different than most, I find it is best to order twice here, first tell the Barista how you want your coffee and then order/pay for it at the register. And let me tell you, know-it-all Baristas love being told how to make coffee...even if you gently tell them how you like your coffee. As an espresso drinker, you can't catch a break...not even at Peet's. I really wish they would stop serving espresso in 8 or 10 oz. cups like Starbucks. Or pulling the shots into those small 3 oz. pitchers to then pour into your espresso cup...duh...who does that? read more

we walked over to peets from the hyatt early Monday morning, new years eve. the coffee was soooo good. I bouight 2 pounds to take home. Its just coffee, but somebody at peets has his stuff going. its that good. The differance from ho hum starbucks is huge. the staff was first rate. Never ever will stop by this place again even though was my first time.So ridiculous service I asked for a coffee and a fucking sandwich. Coffee I got it right away which taste horrible by the way. Sandwich I got asked 3 times for 3 different people what I have order after waiting almost 15 minutes and someone else asked for the 4 time and I got pissed off and left just because I didn't want to bitch at anyone. Fucking place and fucking dumb people come on it was just an egg and cheese fucking sandwich what was so confusion about it, fucking assholes is what those people were with me because they didn't do the same to anyone else and it happened around 8:45am this morning on April 1st. Sucks place, educate your personnel better but to me this shop and its service along with products do not deserve any star rating at all. I still fucking tipped the cashier MiMi who was nice and I ended paying for a sandwich that I didn't even get to take with me because I was already pissed off at everyone there already. read more

Its got the Peers coffee that we all like, so that's a strong plus. But the WiFi only by a code on the receipt was a hassle. Didn't know we'd need to request two codes. Besides the WiFi keeps dropping and waiting to buffer.... Hope the fix this because its a nice place and the coffee is good. read more

This is easily the most efficient Peet's I've ever been in. Twenty people in line ahead of me? I'm still out the door, latte in hand, in about six minutes. Absolutely the best. The coffee beans are pretty good, but everything else is total garbage. The brewed coffee is weak and old. The espresso is disgusting and the milk they steam has been steamed dozens of times by the time it gets to your cup. The only people in the whole company who give a damn are the coffee roasters. Everyone else is on autopilot and has little skill or enthusiasm for the product. San Francisco has horrible coffee in general, but it would be nice if Peet's would hire a consultant from Stumptown to train their baristas how to actually make coffee that doesn't taste awful. read more

Came here to watch a movie, but was early, so had an hour to kill. Found this coffee shop, but as soon as we entered, we were informed by a barista that they were closing at 2pm, (sunday) but they were able to still take our orders. So, we ordered. When i got my coffee a couple minutes later, i asked if there was 1/2 1/2, as my eyes scanned the room. The chic working rolled her eyes as if i was causing a huge inconvenience to her, as she begrudgingly takes a carton out from the frig in front of her and lays it on the counter in front of me. WOW! If you get that pissed to get cream for a customer, don't take any customers, dudette (this was a diff dudette who welcomed our orders). The odd things is (we had dto take our drinks to go since they already said they close at 2) when we were leaving a dude was sitting by the door and didn't seem to be ready to scramble out any time...perhaps he was a pal of the employees. read more

So I stopped by this location to grab a SSFMWSNW, that's a Small Sugar-Free Mocha with Soy No Whip ;-), after doing errands. I think it's only my second time here. Not too big and not too small. Windows and entrances on either side of the store and a table or two (?) along one side of the windows and seats along the other side. They could use maybe another table or two in the middle. Not busy and only a few customers seated and a couple waiting for their drinks at the bar. The Embarcadero didn't seem busy with shoppers on this second day of holiday shopping, but then again this is a high-end mall and most shoppers were either at the downtown shopping centers or in the 'burbs. So anyway, I ordered my drink (ahem, guy who rung me up was a cutie =) )and went to the bar to wait for it. The barista who was making it was chatting with the other worker, but didn't take that long to make it. I noticed his name badge with another name under it. Nickname? It was interesting. It started with mango, I think. Was going to comment to him about it, but got distracted when I noticed he was making a design on my drink =). It was cute and I would've taken a picture of it, but the foam wasn't thick and noticed that the design was a little messy when I picked it up. In any case, I was impressed =). It was a good mocha too. Hmm...thought about giving this location 3 stars because I think they could utiliize the space a little better and wanted the foam to be thicker, but I'm giving it an extra star 'cuz the mocha was good, the barista took the time to make a design on my drink, and the guy who rung me up was a cutie =D. read more
