Why do people say this is one of the best breakfast places in San Marcos area? I legit threw up after my meal. Service is horrible, I didn't even get clean plates or silverware. My server was rude from the moment I sat down. He would not make eye contact nor explain specials nor provide me with recommendations of food items. I ordered eggs with hash and turkey bacon, My turkey bacon was burnt. Eggs were supposed to be over easy, they were not even cooked. The hash was my hash, it was ... I can't even describe it. Prices are too expensive, for my party of 4, I walked out with a $60 bill. All of us ordered the same simple eggs over easy with hash no toast and 1 side of turkey bacon. Maybe other folks had good experience here, mine was not pleasant and I don't plan on returning. read more

I called and placed a order for pick up and accidentally called the Escondido location. I was ordering the county omelette with french toast instead of regular toast. The lady that I spoke to said she was going to charge me completely separate $6.99 for one slice of bread cooked into french toast. So my total would have been around $18.00 instead of $10.99 I'm so happy that I decided to call the other location instead of just saying forget the whole thing. When I called the San Marcos location, not only did she offer me fruit as a side but she also confirmed that I'm not supposed to pay $6.99? For a substitute.. the food was absolutely wonderful. A good breakfast starts with a good cup of coffee. Not here! Flavorless and odorless. I took a sip and left it. Waitress passed by like 10 times and didn't bother to ask if my coffee was ok. It was late Sunday and not even busy. When she finally came by with the pot I could see how transparent it was. Next, the French toast was ok and the bacon was ok but can some over there learn to cook an over-easy egg please. While checking the place out I saw lots of pics of beautiful looking eggs but mine came with severely burnt whites on the outside but still very runny on the inside. I don't mind paying $$ for a good breakfast but this was way below average due to coffee and eggs. I can't imagine how more complex dishes come out. I really enjoy good breakfast and won't be giving this place a 2nd try. Skip this place if you like coffee. read more

Trying this location after loving the Escondido location. I ordered the Country Benedict which is basically Biscuits and Gravy with Poached Eggs on top. It was delicious!!! Sausage Gravy was yummy, Sausage Patty was really good, though the Biscuit could be more tender. And my Eggs were ordered Medium and came Easy and runny. But the Home-Style Potatoes, especially with the Salsa were awesome. It was still good. I'll come back. read more

Food was not bad, but service was lacking. My friends and I decided to check out Pegah's Kitchen after seeing all the great reviews on yelp. Our experience was slightly off-putting. We were seated immediately and given coffee. Our server spilled coffee all over the table, said "oops, sorry" and just left with no intention of coming back to clean up his mess. Ok? No big deal. It happens, so we cleaned it up. When he came back to take our orders, my friend ordered a breakfast burrito and thinking the server was asking flour or corn tortilla, he said flour. The server scoffed at him and said, all burritos are made with flour. Yes, probably a stupid mistake on my friend's part, but the reaction by the waiter was kind of rude... but we just brushed it off. The food didn't take long to come out, so that was a plus. When we were done eating, we flagged down one of the servers who was filling water for our check. His response was "oh I don't do that." And walked away. What..? I totally understand not all servers are able to get checks, but a better response would have been to say that he would let our server know. If it was just 1 instance of poor customer service, I think I would have just let it go, but the whole experience from start to finish made us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. They started getting pretty busy while we were there so Maybe we just had a bad experience. 3 stars purely for the food. read more

The location is just ok and the actual restaurant and atmosphere is a bit old, dingy and from another time. The food is unreal. This Pegah's kitchen location is way better than the one located in Escondido. First off the staff is very welcoming and friendly, this place is kid friendly. Lol, but again, they were friendly, I could see them standing there being sweet hearts while old timers were going in about their day so far, so sweet of them to listen even if its for a few. I came inside and ordered 3 meals to go one day. I waited inside in the meantime and it only took 10 minutes. I was surprised by the large portion sizes. Even the sides that came with the orders were large and yummy. The greek omelette was large and filling, especially with the tasty home-style potatoes. The country fried steak and eggs was well seasoned with a crispy crust and delicious crust. I wish the gravy was packed separately for to go so that the crust didn't get soggy too fast. I got them with hash browns that were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. We chose sourdough for our toast for both of these. They each came with 2 pieces of toast, grape jam, and strawberry jelly. I will definitely be coming back to try other things from their menu. read more

After finding this place on Yelp I figured I'd give it a try. Arrived Saturday around noon with my boyfriend, there was not a wait and we were seated right away. The menu is very big and had lots of great choices. I ordered the combo meal and my boyfriend got the country skillet, on the menu it shows it in an actual skillet but it was not. Our food came pretty quickly, my boyfriends eggs were extremely undercooked. He waited for our waitress but she never came back, in fact the only other time we saw her was when she gave us our check. Eventually he just decided to eat it, since our waitress was no where to be found. He wasn't a fan of his meal at all. My food on the other hand started out good, the biscuits and gravy was decent although I wish it came with more gravy. The bacon on my boyfriends and mine was severely undercooked, I was actually a little scared to eat it because I didn't want to get sick! I also ordered over medium eggs, the first egg I cut into was a little more over easy but it didn't bother me and I still enjoyed it. The second egg however, was completely over hard. No yolk at all, wow was that a moment of sadness since I'm a huge fan of yolk. Finally our waitress appears and hands us the check, we wished she would of checked up on us sooner so our meals could of been improved. Our glasses were also never refilled. What a great hidden gem! We went there on black Friday- 4 adults, 2 kids. No wait at all! They are super family friendly. I saw 3 highchairs and at least 2 booster seats just waiting to be used. I ordered the California Benedict and it was delicious! My husband had a banana/nutella crepe combination...you just can't go wrong with nutella! I don't remember what the other two people had, but everyone was happy. I thought the kids menu was overpriced, so we ended up just ordering a regular 'short stack' for 5.99 which they happily shared, instead of two kids meals for 6.99 each. We'll be back! read more

We came here on a whim for a quick brunch. There weren't that many people on a Tuesday morning so it was quite easy to find a spot to eat. There were two servers who came to take our orders and refill our drinks. The food came out pretty quick and was a good portion. It is located right near the Mission Hills High School. I pass by here quite often but never noticed this place. It seems like a place that would have "regulars" come in for breakfast. :) Seemed to have remodeled. I liked how bright it was when we walked it. Will need to try this place again. I had an omelette with fruits and toast and it was good. Sitting down in this nice little family-style restaurant provides a very comfortable, relaxed and nostalgic atmosphere that I enjoy. It reminds me of Annett's diner up at Upper Twin Lakes near Bridgeport, CA. Ive know about this place for over a decade now but finally decided to try it out. First thing i noticed when we walked in was how clean the place looked. For a 30+ year old restaurant it was well maintained. The coffee wasnt great but way better than ihop. The menu had plenty of choices in which I didnt know what I want to eat. I saw on the door they had cinnamon raisin toast so that was a start. I got the A.M. starter which is your traditional meat eggs potatoes and bread breakfast plate. My wife got the spicy california skillet which was of my other choices . We also shared a short stack of pancakes. Food came out fairly quick considering there were only a few people dining at the time. The portions were pretty big. I got a big chunk of ham steak that wasnt dry. My over easy eggs were cooked perfectly. So much hashbrown i couldnt finish it all. Of course i also got my cinna raisin toast. I took a bite of my wife food which was pretty good. Staff here was friendly including the manager. She did her rounds talking to whoever was in the restaurant asking how their experience was. My only regret is not coming here sooner. read more

Met friends here for breakfast. We were immediately greeted and were given a choice of where we wanted to sit. They patiently waited for the third person in our party to arrive before taking our order. It was quite busy, but or experience was great. The food is tasty and made to order. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and they were good! The eggs were a little over done, but it wasn't a big deal. They consistently come around to fill your coffee cup. They also have French Vanilla coffee creamers which are upon request, other than that they have half & half. Overall, do recommend and plan to return in the near future! read more

It's been awhile since we been here, now I know why... There biscuits & gravy are terrible.....gravy is like water, no substance, almost like a very heavy cake. Sausage in the gravy taste like it's frozen, gravy looks & taste like milk and there sausage patty is frozen. Supper busy place! Waitress didn't know how to handle the place being soooo busy. Waited about an hour to get seated and another 1 1/2 for food they said they didn't know how much longer it would be. When it comes to brunch in San Marcos you'll hear about Mama Kat's but if you're not willing to wait over 30 minutes for your brunch (on most days) Pegah's Kitchen is not a bad alternative. The prices are solid and they have a pretty diverse menu from scrambles, french toast, pancakes, and lunch food. I wouldn't say they do anything over the top crazy or have anything unique as far brunch but they do brunch as you expect the right way and for the right price. The french toast fluffy and crisp not the best I've had but solid. The scrambler was delicious, plenty of potatoes and lots of bacon maybe even a little too much for myself. I had a bit of the breakfast quesadilla and by far the best thing there, even going on light on cheese it was plenty of ooey-gooey goodness. Our service was good nothing spectacular nothing terrible. If you're in need of a big stuffing meal Pegah's Kitchen is another great brunch spot. read more
