Okay, so my latest Pei Wei experience wasn't BAD, but it certainly wasn't good either. I haven't eaten here in at least 2-3 years (not a huge fan of chains), but it's the closest and quickest Asian Fusion spot by Kevin's office so I gave it a go. I ordered my old favorite, chicken Dan Dan noodles, to go. The takeout door is around the corner, so park on the side of the building for easiest access. The order came out quickly and the staff was friendly enough. I drove the short distance back to his office and took off the lid. I had high hopes for the dish with the amazing aromas that were filling the air - even Kev got a little jealous. I dove in expecting greatness but instead found mediocre. I completely agree with Marilyn that the noodles are WAY overcooked. They were slimy, mushy and missing flavor. There was no heat element to the dish even though it had a "spicy" symbol next to it on the menu. The chicken was nothing more than crumbles of B grade poultry. However, I loved the julienned cucumbers and loads of bean sprouts. They were plentiful and added another texture level to the dish. And like all Asian food put in front of me, I doused the thing in soy sauce because I like it extra salty. The drink machines are something from the future! It took me about 5 minutes and watching someone else to figure out how to get ice out of the darn things. I just wish they offered regular tea instead of tricked up flavors. May Dragon and Pei Wei, both in Addison. Decided on Pei Wei as I had not been there in so many moons but didn't recall any negative experience. Bad Choice! Service - 4 stars, most friendly and accommodating staff. Atmosphere - 3 stars, just what one would expect. Nothing "wowing" one with counter service, but pleasant and comfortable. Black lacquered chairs, lacquered rust colored table tops, bright red floor and comfy booths. Nice contemporary music in the background. Food - 1 star - can't rate overall higher because I don't dine out to spend $$ for sub-par food even tho service and atmosphere is good. Price - 4 star, inexpensive, but....you know, you get what you pay for. I typically avoid counter service spots (except for a quick walk through @ Luby's when craving veges), but this was pretty o.k., probably above par. Service when ordering was friendly, helpful and prompt. Was there around 1500, so not busy, went through the line, placed order and seated quickly. First, Thai Wonton soup delivered. Not too shabby; broth was pretty tasty with the spinach leaves and the soft Wonton noodles after adding some soy sauce.. A little pasty, but okay. I'd give this dish a 2.5. This is a new item. Uh Oh...all of a sudden, .didn't realize I had to go to the self serve counter to retrieve my own serving pieces...forks, knives, spoons. Okay, I am not above doing this...I think. Very large bowl of Dan Dan Noodles delivered, with huge servings of slivered cucumbers and bean sprouts on sides of the bowl. Had to scoop much of those aside, as it was far too much for the serving. The described "egg noodles" (which were like spaghetti) were cooked well past al dente; mushy, pasty and flavorless. Although I ordered extra sauce (Chile sauteed soy), it had absolutely no flavor. The heat level was okay for my wimpy palate, but heat does not necessarily equate to "flavor". No peanutty butter taste as is typical for this dish. Bland, pasty (stating that one more time to be sure I get the point across), and yukkiness (my new word!) !!! The chicken in the dish was "diced" so tiny, so it was difficult to savor the meat. I took only a few bites, leaving over 2/3'rds of the dish, pushed it aside and gracefully exited the restaurant, not taking a to-go container that I would just have to put down the disposal after I got home. While I am usually prone to provide constructive criticism for my meal, but not really often send something back. I just felt the urge TO GO, & get the heck out of dodge! A quality fast casual, Pei Wei brings it. There's plenty of healthy choices and a few nice low-calorie items including the chicken wraps and some of the salads. Each entrée and salad offer a tofu/vegetable alternative to the beef/chicken/shrimp options. The place is always clean, the tea is always fresh, and the food always cooked to order. This location isn't too far from where I live, but I haven't been much since I usually shy away from chain operations. My friend was craving it though, so we hopped on over for a quick dinner on a busy weekend night. It wasn't as crowded as we expected, but there was a fair amount of folks. All of the booths were taken at least. We had no wait at the counter, though the to-go area was uber packed. This time around, I tried out the Spicy Korean hoping for a little heat with my dinner. The dish comes with Korean hot pepper sauce, garlic, mushrooms, onions, carrots & chicken with brown rice. The vegetables were fresh and cooked just right (re: not mushy *yuck*), but the pepper sauce was underwhelming. I had to go get my own spicy sauce and amp up my dinner a bit. I'll also never understand why each dish comes with it's own mountain of rice... I couldn't eat that much rice in one sitting if I tried! As a whole, the dish was pretty tasty, especially after I added more spice. The decor in here is pretty standard and it was kept clean for patrons. We received our food quickly, were greeted warmly by the staff, had no trouble finding a table even with the crowd, and got to enjoy our meal with relatively no fuss. After attending a networking event in Addison, I decided to eat at a place where I have frequented before because I was tired and did not want any surprises. I was happy to see Pei Wei so close to the hotel, so I reluctantly entered the restaurant 30 minutes before closing and placed my order. I approached the counter, surveyed the menu and eventually gave my order which took over 5 minutes because they assumed that my order was taken? While waiting for at least 20 minutes along with 2 other patrons, we noticed that the cooks were cleaning up and not cooking our meals because the woks were not being used. Then, one of the other customers asked about their take-out items because he had been waiting for close to an hour. The manager addressed the gentlemen and stated that they did not receive an order, and then this conversation went back and forth. The manager should have accepted fault and expedited his order instead of explaining the ordering process. Eventually, the cooks stopped cleaning and prepared a few meals while the manager had a very loud conversation with the gentleman's wife about the phantom order. After 30 grueling minutes of listening to this botched order, all 3 to-go meals were given to each customer which were not large orders, and I was quite disappointed with the service because the dining room had 2 separate tables being used and the staff was too busy trying to close. I then went to my hotel to eat my long awaited meal. The crab rangoons were perfect, but the Korean chicken was very disappointing because the chicken was tough and it had a peculiar smell...maybe it was precooked. Finally, service was poor and the staff was more interested in closing then serving food. For the price, panda express would have been better and much quicker. read more

This place... good lord. My go to spot after gym. For months I've been surveying to corporate about the service, food, cook times, attitudes. I tried coming back and in the last 3 week this is what I got: Attitude Unclean restaurant Quoted times at order -20-30 min for food -WHAT? Extremely disappointing. I hate writing bad reviews, but the churning in my stomach is pushing me to do this. I'm not sure why I keep giving Pei Wei a try. I should know better after being served raw chicken in one location, and chunks of fat in another location. I thought, hey, they've changed their menu again, why not give them one more try. I love P.F.Changs, so maybe, just maybe it will be worth a shot. Nope. I will say the man at the register was nice and food came out quickly. It was hard to hear in the restaurant mostly because there was a guy in the kitchen area sawing metal (I wonder if anything ended up in the food - sparks were flying). The guy who served our plate was not as friendly by any means. Our plates were served at different times so my boyfriend, ever the gentleman waited until my food arrived to start which meant his food was getting cold. The ice machine had dirty ice - it took three attempts to get clean ice which I don't know why I bothered because I knew I wasn't going to drink anything that came out of that machine. I ordered the ginger broccoli with shrimp on top of cauliflower fried rice. Holy cow it was awful. The broccoli was fine (although flavorless), but the shrimp smelled funky and the cauliflower rice was bizarre and gross. It was sitting in a pool of water on my plate! For some reason the sauce was served on the side and it must have been sitting in a vat in the kitchen for a while because it had sort of separated in the little bowl. The shrimp had kind of a pasty texture on the outside as though they had been coated in flour to make the sauce stick. It was weird and disgusting. My boyfriend wanted to take my plate back and get something else for me but honestly I just wanted to leave, I didn't want anything else from there. I promise I am not a food snob or a complainer. I really can't imagine anyone being happy with what I was given. I wish I had taken a picture of the plate - it was a very sad sight. There was zero flavor with the sauce on the side (except for the off flavor of the shrimp) and the sauce was too lumpy to pour over the dish. Our group was disturbed by the lack of attention to cleanliness. We visited on a Friday night for dinner and saw three tables of diners. No line. The floor of the bathroom was sticky, the trash can overflowing onto the floor. Most of the non-caffeine options were not working on the freestyle machine and the screen was covered with sticky dried soda. It couldn't detect my finger touching. An attention sign in the drink area wasn't alerting us to anything in particular but was also dirty. Two Vietnamese spring rolls arrived warm. A crispy spring roll was soggy. The utensils had bits of food stuck to them. We pulled four dirty knives out of the bin before finding a clean one. There were no forks. The sauce containers were gross with sauce crusted on the outside. Our bench had crumbs and rice on it. Three members of the cooking staff had longer hair but no hair nets. The server had hair down past his shoulders and it was pulled back but no hair net. I can't recall the last time I was so grossed out by a restaurant. read more

I love Pei Wei, and this locale is no different. Except now they have awesome fancy coke dispensers. You choose your drink from a touch screen and then add flavors. You could get a diet caffeine free raspberry coke or lime minute maid light (if for some reason you'd like those...) There are more than 100 choices, which is awesome, but you feel awkward trying to choose while the person behind you watches. So many decisions! I always get the crab wontons to start; they're amazing and the red chile sauce that comes with it is to die for. My favorite entrees are mongolian beef, chicken dan dan noodles (spicy!), and chicken lettuce wraps (super low cal). read more

Ordered online - Cashew Chicken. Got home. Surprise, surprise, surprise not one cashew. Zero, nada, zilch and goose egg. Don't believe me? Peep the pics. I don't think you can call it Cashew Chicken without the cashews but I might be wrong.....Update: I called the restaurant immediately when I got home and discovered there were no cashews. The person on the phone apologize for the error and said they would call me back in 20 minutes in order to process my refund. I waited for an hour with no call. I called back and then I was on hold for two hours. I call again someone picks up the phone and all I hear is restaurant noise. At this point I decide to leave my home and drive back to the restaurant while still listening to restaurant noise in the background. I get to the restaurant still on "hold". The hold was 15 minutes this time and counting. I got in line and waited for service at the to go order side. someone asked me if I needed help I said I need my refund for the cashew-less chicken. She then said someone will be with you and turned around and continue to bag up other orders. So I waited for two people that got there before me to be serviced by the cashier then the cashier attempted to service someone that it got there after me. I said "Ayo" at the top of my lungs. she then turned to help me and asked me what the name on my order was and or what did I need to order. I told her first you guys might want to hang up your phone that you have me on hold for 20 minutes and counting now and then I showed her my phone that was still on the call with the very restaurant that I was in. Then I said I don't want to order because I ordered 3hrs ago. I need a refund for my incorrect order. She then said someone else would have to help me and proceeded to check out the customer that arrived after me. Finally the original person that said they would call me back in 20 minutes to process my refund appeared. Sidenote I was doing a lot of cursing during all of this especially when I was told to calm down because they were busy and that they were working. I had to then inform them that I too was busy and that I too was at work and I took time out to drive back up there while being on hold for hours and still on hold as I showed them the phone again and suggested they might want to hang up. then they processed my refund and I left. My suggestion is if you order something from this location that says cashew chicken make sure you double check it before you leave because you might actually get peanut duck instead. read more

If you like PF Changs, but want it cheaper, try Pei Wei. If you don't like that "scrambled egg" tofu texture, try Pei Wei. I usually get the spicy Korean Tofu and it is tasty. The tofu looks like it has been smoked and baked? Much firmer texture than anywhere else and it has a different flavor. Hey, while you're at it, try my drink special too. They are one of the few places with Fresca on tap, so I put an orange and lemon slice in my glass, fill with ice, then top with half Fresca and half Sprite. Either the fruit or the Sprite kills the sugar-free taste of the Fresca, so it's tasty and not (quite) so calorific. read more

The last 3 visits have resulted in poor customer service, cold food and today a combination of poor customer service and low quality food. I waited at the register where a bearded guy took his time coming to assist me. I ordered crab wonton-but I discovered they ran out when I questioned why it wasn't in my bag. I think I would have been charged for it had I not asked. The guy who finally assisted me was great! Just ordered Ahi Avacado Salad to go so I can eat it at work while working. I had to trow the whole plate away and now I am starving. The tuna is really old along with the salad. The only fresh ingredient is the avacado and woton chips which was drenching in oil. If I would have risked and actually ate this plate of old rotten food, I know I would have gotten food poisoning. It's been a while since I ate at a Pei Wei and I was so very glad to see that the quality of the food was still as good as I remember. They hadn't gone and jacked around with the lettuce wraps - they were still as yummy as ever. The Ahi tuna salad was a real winner as well, although next time I'll ask to have the pickled ginger left off (it's a TON of ginger). The tuna had great flavor, the salad was very fresh and I really loved the various mix-ins of the wontons, cucumber, and the pickled vegetable salad - they gave the salad a great variety of texture and flavors, really good. read more

The food is always good, as with the other Pei Weis, however here the service is a little subpar compared to their nearby locations. I think they have a high turnover on their wait staff as they seemed and not as friendly. For instance when the cashier or server does their minimum requirements or brings an obligatory dish or something that's missing, when I respond "thank you" they either say nothing or just respond with "no problem" as if it's my fault for their request. Other locales check up on you or offer to bring over soy sauce but not at this location. Bottom line- good food but less then stellar service along with longer than normal waits for the order to arrive, particularly at dinner. read more

Yes it is a chain restaurant. But it would be unfair to hold that against Pei Wei. The food is prepared for you on the spot, there is a good selection of modern-Asian meals, service is quick and a good value for the price. I have tried almost everything on the menu. The quality is pretty good. It can go head to head with most Chinese or Japanese restaurants, which should not be a surprise as Pai Wei is part of the pricier P.F.Changs. No particular dish is spectacular, and it is not really very authentic Chinese but you probably don't want that :-) Overall, very tasty food at a reasonable price. read more

P.F. Chang's little brother, something of a cross between fast food (or perhaps more like food done fast) and a sit-down restaurant. In line with its corporate sibling, the menu is the same, except the names have changed, the portions are a wee bit smaller, and, most importantly, the prices are nearly cut in half. Example, "Crispy Honey Chicken" is instead "Honey Seared Chicken." Very clever. Either way, you're looking at $8-$9 a person and plenty of left-overs. Eat in, they give you a number and bring the food on out to you. They even refill your drinks. Take out, yes, they do offer a free fountain drink while you wait. However, the iced tea is where they lose major points. It's cool that they offer peeled, sliced oranges in place of lemon, but its not cool that they came up with some sort of cinnamon/vanilla tea concoction that's rather bland and downright nasty. Sure, it's not the greatest Chinese food ever, but it gets three stars because it's quick and there's none of that annoying Psychotropic, MSG-induced hangover. read more

Running errands at lunch and starving, I pulled in to Pei Wei because it was close and I am always up for Asian food. This was my first (and last) experience with this restaurant for a few reasons. First, I was seated at a two top in the middle of the restaurant when an employee approached me and asked me if I minded moving because he wanted to push some tables together for a group of 6. Okay, no problem. He moved me to a four top right by the giant line of people waiting to order their food. I now became the jerk who took up a big table during the lunch rush. I didn't realize they had a bar that I would have been more than happy to sit at until I was leaving, I wish he had taken me there. Second, the food was terrible! I knew it would be Americanized, generic Asian food and was totally prepared for that, but I was not prepared for what they served. I ordered the Thai Dynamite (Sriracha chile sauce, soy, fresh lime, scallions, garlic, red bell peppers, carrots, Thai basil)- sounds good right???? Ummmm wrong. It was drenched in what I think was vinegar. Chicken drenched in vinegar, doesn't that make your mouth water?? I live for Siracha, I know what it tastes like, and this wasn't it at all. It wasn't spicy, it was just gross. I left 90% of the food on my plate, even the rice got a thumbs down. Who ruins rice?!?! What a waste of $11. I took a fortune cookie and opened it in my car on the way back to work- also icky. Lame. This is what I get for betraying the excellent Thai restaurants in the area. Lesson learned. read more
