I was kind of frustrated because they don't have many sauces; the hoisin sauce is main sauce for everything. The popcorn chicken desperately needs a sweet chili aioli. But my biggest issue was with the environment; the were 3 girls who were extremely loud and disruptive. When I asked staff about the noise, they stated they were regulars and nothing was addressed. After consulting the yelp app also we felt pretty confident it'd be pretty good. We lucked into their all day happy hour on a Monday night--16% off on starters, dim sum, and select drinks. We were happy to see that they had a decent variety of vergetarian/vegan items. We tried the following: - Peachy keen and Lychee mango Hurricane (in adorable panda glass!) happy hour cocktails--both very good - Spicy soy ribbon salad (my fave dish of the night, with chewy tofu ribbons, bean sprouts and greens dressed lightly in a spicy dressing) - Eggy tofu tots (second fave dish of the night: came to us piping hot, with custardy tofu in a nicely fried coating, served with chili oil) - Mapo tofu noodles (tofu with diced mushrooms in a spice, oily sauce served over noodles--quite good) - Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce topped with fried garlic (good, but didn't knock our socks off) - Dragon fries (the miss of the night: overcooked matchstick fries with some bits of scallion thrown on top served with regular ole ketchup) The ambience was casual-nice, with Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling adding a dose of festivity. Was surprisingly a great spot, I think I had assumed that since it was in a newer kind of building, it was going to be 'meh' but it superseded my expectations. They sometimes will do karaoke, so we left before we had to endure that aspect, as we weren't in the mood for it that night. My girlfriend and I happened upon this amazing spot after a Dodgers game and had the most incredible time! I had a ramen dish that was phenomenal. My lady friend had Kobe potstickers that were fire! While options in LA get scarce after 11pm, Peking Tavern was ready to make us feel at home even at around 1130 with incredible food, drinks, music, and ambience. I recommend the spicy potstickers, beef roll, and popcorn chicken, all small bites that burst with flavor and quality. For a drink, I had the Peking old fashioned which was good and strong. I wanted to try their other offerings, some of which looked incredible, but I guess that will have to wait till next time. The place was moderately busy but service was still attentive and friendly, and we never had to wait long for someone to check on us or to flag down someone walking by. What a gem of a find! The Peking Garden is a fun gastro pub in downtown. The bar is impressive and the foods are authentic! All super delicious! The service here is top notch! The bar attendants not only make some delicious drinks, but they also help to deliver yummy food and ensure that you have a great experience! I definitely preferred my drink, which was boozy but not in a way that was very obvious. The hurricane was more sharp and difficult to drink. My friends also got the scallion pancakes, which they mentioned were slightly dry and had an unusual and thick sauce pairing (I think it was hoisin?). I've been a fan since Peking Tavern's old, underground location on Spring & 8th. The new location is in Little Tokyo, where I live, which is smaller but charming. It has a contemporary Asian aesthetic, vibrant decor, and a welcoming atmosphere, so it's a great spot to socialize. You can sit at the bar, have a table, or sit on their patio. Even though it had been several years since I visited their old location, it was nice to be recognized. The bartenders are great with conversations, so it feels very welcoming. Depending on who is working, you can trust them with wine recommendations. They have delicious and refreshing cocktails with Asian flavors, and visiting during happy hour is excellent for those who live or work nearby. I've tried dumplings, scallion pancakes, popcorn chicken, beef rolls, and noodle soups. Peking Tavern is one of the storefronts at Ava Apartments. It's on the corner of Toya Miyatake Way, a small street between the neighboring apartments. My friends and I were lured in with the Naruto flasks, but we stayed for the delicious food and excellent service. Our server and bartenders were extremely friendly and had the best recommendations. Came right after they opened on a Wednesday and the place was empty. We were seated right away and given menus and were told their fryer is broken so none of the fried food was available. The menu is an interesting mix of different types of Chinese cuisine. They have a full bar but on that day they were out of the Pilsner. The service: The drinks and the food come out slowly (the server mentioned there's only one cook in the back). Even though we were the only party there (to eat) the server was snappy with us and kind of rude. When he brought out an extra order of beef noodle soup he insinuated that it was our fault and someone must have said it an extra time. The server also took 30 minutes to bring out extra sauce when requested and by that time we didn't need it anymore. He apologized for the slow service when we were leaving but that doesn't make up for his tone when speaking to us. The food: The portions here are rather small. Green onion pancakes - very thin and served with a side sauce ?? I've never had that before and there was a small piece of what looked like Saran Wrap on the plate.. leftover from taking it out and microwaving ?? Also it somehow manages to taste burnt while not having any burnt marks on it. Beef noodle soup - the soup flavor was fine but the plating was weird as it seemed like they didn't want to give you plenty of soup.. the meat wasn't as tender as I'm used to as well. Mapo tofu noodles - lots of peppercorn oil in this which is fine with me but it is a bit salty after a while. Spicy fish - I liked the fish it was cooked thoroughly and the peppers/paste on top gave it an extra kick of flavor. I ordered it with "add noodles" and they came out as just plain noodles on the side in a small bowl.. also weird. We also ordered beef rolls that finally came out when everyone was done eating.. I didn't have high expectations coming here since it definitely looked like one of those "fake Chinese food" places but it was even more disappointing. I went to P P Pop in Monterey Park the next day so I could get beef noodle soup redemption. I will not be coming back here. read more

I came here with friends on a night that the restaurant advertised as Chinese New Year celebration with karaoke and free appetizers. My friends ordered drinks and food before the started time so we wouldn't get too hungry. The food they ordered was mediocre but the sauces were good. When it came time to karaoke, there was none. The advertised free appetizers was a small portion of tofu skin and one fried tofu dumpling. That was it we got played lol. The atmosphere is really nice and I hear the drinks were good. When here after the show, and the place is packed. Parking is on the street so it can be a bit of a challenge but then again, it's downtown LA so. The place is fun and the decor is cute with Chinese arts and lanterns. It's spacious and they do have outdoor sitting too. Our server was great, he's both server and bartender. Very nice and friendly. The food was super tasty and hearty per he's saying and it's true. Really enjoyable. They do have craft cocktails but I ordered my own, not bad. Peking Tavern is a gem in the DTLA scene. The menu is robust, with noodles, dumplings, and solid appetizers. They also have a full bar that runs the length of the dining room, serving craft cocktails and also beers on tap. They have seating at the bar, or you can score a table in the outdoor patio or indoor dining room. The restaurant is spacious but still intimate. I've been there for a large group of 10+ and numerous occasions for dinner. My favorite items on the menu are the boiled Pork and Napa Dumplings, Spicy Soy Ribbon Salad and Mapo Tofu Noodle. I also really enjoy the Spicy Steamed Fish with Noodle and Sichuan Fish Dumplings. The dishes are great whether you're having dinner or want a bit of "bar food" with your cocktails or beer. I love the Mapo Tofu Noodle. This dish is my jam, I can't get enough noodles and I love Mapo Tofu. This kitchen churns out authentic flavors so it's properly spicy! Pretty much every dish is very well-seasoned and has a great sauce! Full disclosure, I do know the owners from college but that's not why I'm giving the review. That said, the owners are usually on-site in the evenings greeting customers. There's meter street parking or garages in the area. I've always found street parking. read more

My first time coming here the day I moved in to my new spot. We finished unpacking and decided to run to the nearest spot to watch the last of the Dodger World Series game. Not only did the take it home, we also got to enjoy it at this spot with great food and drinks! I was too busy watching the game to take photos of the food and drinks but it was all so delicious! I came back a few days after to show my mom. She absolutely loved it too. I can't choose a favorite but u do recommended the beef roll, any of the noodles and the Kobe Bryan potsickers. It's all perfection. Hiro is such a great waiter, he was great with recommendations and just overall fun to talk to.
