I read about Pel'meni on some food blog or article and thought the idea of these Russian dumplings were unique to the area. I never even knew they ahd their own type. So when I saw a gilt deal for it, I jumped on it. Came here with my roommate and we had $24 to spend so we got two orders of the beef dumplings and one order of the potato dumplings plus the carrot salad and a drink. Total came out to be about $27. Walking into the place seemed kind of awkward because the restaurant almost just seemed like it was in a hallway to the other stores in the building. But we ordered and sat down, the food came out pretty quick . They add on all the toppings for you when they serve it which included sour cream, curry powder, hot sauce, and a couple other things. The dumplings were filling, but in my opinion bland. There wasn't additional seasoning/toppings available to didn't think to ask, but it just wasn't satisfying. Walked into this little "gem" out of the blue to have a snack. I wasn't greeted so I awkwardly walked up to the cashier. She didn't bat an eye. So I asked "is this where I order." She said "yes." Ok, so we're monosyllabic, I can deal with that. I order a dozen of the whatever Pelmeni and sat. After 25 minutes, with all staff appearing to be dawdling around, I followed-up on my order. Miss Pelmeni Queen snapped "there were OTHERS before you." Alright, so we're that kind of person. I don't get why people like her work in the service industry if she doesn't know how to put her shit-day aside and SMILE SMILE SMILE and be happy. Super slow and piss poor attitudes. First time there, absolute 5*, unbelievably delicious and leftovers the next day were shared with family who all talked about the flavor punch. Second time there, we drove 45mins just for the dumplings we remembered and were sadly disappointed. No flavor, not well put together, low quality sauce. Different chefs from the first to the second time and I have been told the first one (older Asian woman) is the only one who makes them "right". Huge waste of time and money. I went in one and time it will be my last. I got the regular dumpling for 13 DOLLARS you get a tiny little plastic container with a few small dumplings and HALF A SLICE of brown bread. What a rip off! Never going here again. Don't waste your money on airplane sized portions of little dumplings that are not filling and overpriced. Waste of money and a rip off. Poor quality food. I'd give 0 stars. read more

I find these dumplings to be absolutely de-lish. I prefer to get the mix of meat and potatoes because variety is the spice of life! They have a bunch of old records there, so I like to put on some tunes and enjoy the atmosphere and mingle with the kids who come in. It is a great place to meet people. read more

We ended up eating outside right under the window and 2 min later the owner walks out with a slice of bread and starts feeding the ducks outside the store. He told us that they're a couple and that they come by every year to lay eggs and they visit him every night for dinner during this time. He also told us that Cedars of Lebanon has been open for over 40 years and that it used to be so rowdy and exciting. So many people would gather around and spend time in his restaurant but now it's a lot quieter (I'm assuming this is because new, more novel places have been popping up on the Ave). I left this conversation so touched and full of love for this man, I genuinely wish him the best. His unprompted kindness towards a complete stranger and willingness to spend time chatting with us alone makes this place 5 stars for me, so many places lack this kind of passion and love that we could really use more of. this happened almost a year ago but I wanted to share my experience to highlight how wonderful of a man the owner is, hopefully we can continue to have nice things and no one abuses his kindness anyway I wanna go back and try their falafel apparently it's super good

What Sultan's understands is that yes, the feta cheese is really important, which is why they have a ton of it on there However, what they also understand is the real key is the Tzatziki sauce - and the amount of it What good is Greek Fries if the cheese just falls through the fries? Or, what good is it if the sauce and cheese are just applied to the top layer of fries and all the remaining ones near the bottom remain dry? What truly makes these fries all-time is the amount of the sauce they use - what this does it a) allows the sauce to take over the entire box of fries and b) allows the cheese to really stick to the fries The amount of this sauce + cheese combination used means that even though at the start it's only applied to the fries at the top, while eating it flows down and fuses itself with all the fries at the bottom as well When I say coat the fries, that's an understatement. It did not disappoint! The vibe is super casual and welcoming--perfect for a laid-back lunch or a quick takeout. They have a convenient parking lot right in front, which is a huge plus in this area. The shop is clean, and the staff are incredibly friendly and upbeat. What we ordered: * Gyro Sandwich: The classic lamb and beef combo. The pita was warm and soft, and the tzatziki with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes made it so refreshing. * Arabic Lamb & Beef Shawarma: My husband went for this one. It's a massive 12" toasted tortilla wrap with garlic and tahini sauce. Hearty, flavorful, and hit the spot. * Greek Fries: YOU MUST ORDER THESE. They are topped with mixed spices, garlic sauce, and feta cheese. The garlic is bold and totally addictive. I couldn't stop eating them! Generous portions, amazing flavors, and great service. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the neighborhood!
