I had a reservation for myself and two friends. The day before, one friend became sick and asked to push the reservation. I called several times the day before and again the day of but couldn't get through. When I eventually did reach someone, I was able to move the reservation. Unfortunately, the new date no longer worked, and I canceled. I later noticed I had been charged a no-show fee and emailed politely asking if it could be waived, explaining the circumstances and the difficulty I had reaching someone by phone. I understand and respect cancellation policies, but the phone call I received in response was extremely disappointing. The woman who called was rude and dismissive and implied that I was being dishonest about trying to call, stating she would have answered if I had reached out. This felt unnecessary and disrespectful, especially given that she initiated the call. What was most frustrating was not the fee itself, but the lack of professionalism in how the situation was handled. If the answer was simply "no," that could have been communicated clearly and respectfully. Unfortunately, this interaction left a very poor impression and makes me hesitant to dine here in the future. I hope the restaurant considers how guest concerns are handled, as a more empathetic approach would go a long way. read more

Note - they do not allow separate checks or split by different amount. This turned our girls outing into a bit of a disappointment. Additionally food arrives staggered vs when the whole table is ready. There were 4 at our table with each getting her own meal for brunch. It was very very weird to have 1 at the table eating while the rest watched and then the 3 of us were done by the time the 4th arrived. Food and ambience was great, but the 2 issues above made the experience a disappointment. Stopped in for a weekday double date last week, excited to get my Italian on! We were sat in the back dining room where the naughty kids are sent, in the back corner under a vent best placed in a deep freezer. After some musical chairs, we settled in and started to realize the volume we'd be competing with all night. Zero sound proofing = sore throats in the morning!! Food came conveniently in tiny plates of three - perfect for two (or four) for squabbles and messy splitting. Pasta was very well made and sauces delicious and as advertised. We had the burrata crostini (5/5 stars but over salted), the croquettes (3/5 stars), the arancini (good apparently/ didn't try as they had meat in them), the zucchini fries (1/5 stars- tasteless and sad), chickpeas fritters (2/5 stars- cardboardy) from the small plates. We selected the ravioli (in 9 perfect to share pieces! Ha!), the radiatore and the cacio e pepe from the main plates- nicely made house pasta, solid sauces - small portions though. We wrapped up with the (three!) mini ice cream sandwiches - the profiteroles were flavorless but the chocolate syrup carried them, thankfully. The highlight was our waiter who joked that the serving of three is a point of contention at every table. He was attentive throughout keeping our glasses filled and the food coming at a steady pace. The somm was well informed and very friendly through the Super Tuscan and barbera bottle pours. $300 of beige food later, we were still a little hungry and left collectively agreeing there are better Italian spots to choose from in town. read more

I waffled between 4 and 5 but decided to give them the full 5. They encourage ordering many plates since most of the portions are small. We got the following for dinner: Calamari - very good Garlic break - Ok, wouldn't bother next time. Potato Croquettes - good, flavor did not jump out like I hoped. Polenta Bolognese - wife loved it ( but she was on her second glass of wine) Burrata Crostini - Absolutely loved it, would go back just for that. Pelato Rav - Good, sauce was very good as well as the filling, the pasta itself was just ok Desserts: Pistachio Gelato Wife like it a lot. Chocolate Hazelnut gelato - Was good but not great. Zeppoles - Saved for the ride home and the wife put it back so I had to wait until we got home, still very good, next time will have it on site. Well, I'd like to say I'm traveling by myself and wanting to eat some Italian food because I just went to Italy and I needed to see myself at a bar so I don't feel uncomfortable about being by myself. It's extremely cold in here. I wasn't prepared for that. The bartenders are super good. The food is unbelievable but you need to come with a person so you can try a couple different varieties of their plates cause they're all small plates that you're supposed to share with somebody but overall the place was really really nice in the end. I wanted to get myself a dessert to go and my girlfriend that I'm staying with a dessert to go and they wouldn't do it for me, but that's OK. Our server was maybe the best waiter in the world. Constantly checking on us, knowledgeable of the menu, never had a drink even half empty. The food was ok at best. Came here for my friends bachelorette and honestly this place sucked, I would not recommend this place at all. First off, the pasta tasted okay but it was cold and the bread tasted stale? We were about 10 minutes late due to a car crash and the waitress said she would not seat us if we were late (we booked this 5 months in advance).Then when we were about to pay the check, a random employee told us we had to get a bottle of champagne to reach our quota for a big party which is fine. BUT A MANAGER OR SOMEONE CAME OVER AND TOLD US OUR TWO HOUR TIME LIMIT WAS UP IN TWO MINUTES AND WE HAD TO LEAVE!!! Talk about unprofessional and greedy. You can clearly tell these people just want to turn tables and be greedy. I could've ate better food for half the price as well. If I see the owner make some snarky comment like he has to all the other comments, I'll fart in is air vents. Delicious meal on the beautiful patio. My dining companions and I enjoyed the burnt brocollini, crispy garlic potatoes, garlic bread & red sauce, radiatori , cacio e pepe AND pesto fusilli. All were fabulous and the radiatori was a standout - served in a creamy slightly spicy perfect vodka sauce. Rainbow cookies, chocolate budino, and frozen cocktails - limoncello and espresso martini - to finish the evening, perfection! A week and a half in, the place was absolutely at capacity. We experienced some typical to-be-expected service kinks of a freshly opened packed spot with a fresh hire class, but I'm confident Pelato will be running like a delicious well-oiled machine in no time. read more

We loved every dish: the Burrata Crostini was rich and flavorful, Crispy Zucchini Strings were light and addicting, and the Stuffed Mushrooms were tasty without being heavy. My wife and I (mid 60's) are transplanted New Yorkers to Charleston (Mount Pleasant) for the last 4 years. This was the first of many visits to Pelato, home to authentic Brooklyn Italian food. We went on a Sunday to have the "Sunday Sauce" (aka Sunday Gravy) like Nonna used to make. It's only available on Sundays. The dish is fusilli, tomato, ribs, braciola, sausage and meatballs. It was very good as expected and we had leftovers to take home. We also had the Arancini to start which was lightly fried and excellent. We had the the Dark Chocolate Budino for desert which was excellent. We will be back to try the other dishes and definitely get the "Sunday Sauce" on a Sunday. The restaurant is well laid out with high ceilings and an excellent wait staff. They have a good selection of Brooklyn Italian dishes, a good wine and liquor menu, and Peroni beer on tap. The restaurant is an offshoot of a Nashville restaurant by the same name, owned by Theresa Scotto who is married to Anthony Scotto Jr., a well know NY restaurateur. When we lived in NY we regularly ate in his Italian restaurants and Steakhouses. We' happy to see them branch out to Charleston. Our excellent servers were Grace and Darian. Note to tourists: The restaurant is not "downtown", but on the Charleston Peninsula just 3/4 of a mile North of the Ravenel Bridge and Rt. 17. It's in an area with a number of great Charleston restaurants, including Edmund Oast (next door), Lewis' BBQ and Home Team BBQ and a few others just a short drive away. If staying "downtown", take an Uber or drive as there is on-site parking. read more

Food was great, however, the waitress brought us 6 orders of garlic bread with the extra sides and 10 shots without running it by the table. We thought the garlic bread was complimentary as she never asked if we wanted it and we never ordered it. When the shots arrived, we told her we didn't want them and never ordered them and tried to return them. The waitress nearly started crying and told us she would comp the shots because we did not order them. While good for those like to share- not good for those who don't and want their own. Food is good but expensive. $7.00 for 4 pieces of plain garlic bread and $2.00 extra for a dipping sauce ??? Nice atmosphere and plenty of wait staff. Very noisy and tables are close together. Then the bill - they do not & will not do separate checks and only split 2--4 ways. When asked a very arrogant response. Great if you know and accept the idea of tapas and sharing all including the check. Not so good for individuals who do not like to share or do not eat & drink the same as others. Do not know in this age of technology why they cannot provide separate checks. I get the portions are supposed to be small so that you try more things HOWEVER the radiatori vodka we received was extremely disappointing from a portion standpoint. It looked like somebody scraped half of the plate off before it arrived. First, the interior renovation is a significant upgrade from the former B&B. Nice work Pelato! After dining at New York's Fresco by Scottofor many years, we decided to try this new Scotto family spot in SC. We know this is a new restaurant in Charleston and believe they deserve some time to get everything perfect. From our recent experience, they missed the mark on the potato croquettes, burrata crostini, pelato rav, and the cloud rice pudding. The best we sampled were the eggplant stuffed bread and shrimp limone. Which only means we need to go back and try the other items on the menu!
