My husband and I came here to eat on 7/19 for the World cup finale. The girl who was working at the front wearing a Stussy shirt and glasses needs a raise because she was managing the entire front of the store by herself for an hour. She was giving excellent customer service to everyone despite being so understaffed. They need to hire more people and stop the online orders from coming in when they are unable to manage the incoming volume of orders. Food was good and we were enjoying watching the game. Pelicana was so delicious! I've had my fair share of korean fried chicken and this definitely lived up to my standards. It was pretty empty when I went and service was really fast. It was a pretty large space that was dimly lit and is a great vibe for a late night grub! My friends and I got the banban chicken, half original and half signature sauce. The chicken was perfectly crispy and I liked the signature sauce the most since it was the perfect amount of sweet and savory. The only downside is that I felt like the chicken was a bit dry. My favorite dish of the night was the rose tteokbokki and honestly I still think about it. It's a good spice level and soo creamy and delicious! I loved how much cabbage and fish cake there was. The restaurant was quite empty around lunch time but there was relatively loud kpop music to keep the vibe in the restaurant upbeat! Our waitress took our order and we got our food within 20 minutes. The salad and cheese balls came out relatively quick and definitely served well as appetizers. Only real problem was the bugs, man there were a lot of flies and gnats flying around that kind of interrupted our dining experience. When the wings came around, one of the bugs even had the audacity to land in the honey soy sauce wings! It's only been a few years since I was introduced to K-fried Chicken, and it has been quite a yummy experience so far as I've tried most of the popular places in town. Pelicana is relatively new here, but I'm told that it's been around in Korea for many years now, so, I had very high expectations for its quality. This is a small'ish fried chicken joint designed like a casual sports bar, wall mounted TVs, colorful bar, and lound music blasting overhead. I guess it's more than just a take out place, and can be a pretty fun place to hang out with friends for a drink and some comefort K-food. We ordered a half order of the Crispy Fried Boneless Chicken and an order of the whole Original Fried Chicken....with their Signature sauce on the side. We typically don't like our chicken tossed and drenched in sauce and prefer to order it naked and be able to dip our chicken in the sauce as and how we like. We actually thought the boneless chicken was actually very good.....big pieces, tender and juicy, and very yummy with some sauce......and not oily. As for the whole original fried chicken, I liked the crispiness of the coating, but every single piece was just drenched in oil with the whole paper lining of the serving pan like a swimming pool of oil! They could very well have let the oil drain a bit before serving it. Other than that, the chicken meat was pretty nice, tender, juicy, and was quite yummy with the signature sauce. I had really wanted to give a better rating to this place, but the music blasting overhead was way too loud! We had asked the manager to please turn it down a bit since the place was empty, but I was told she was a bit reluctant to do so, and had even given an annoyed look. Unfortunately, I guess it was still a bit early and regular staff had not started their shift yet, so the manager had to attend to us. However, all she ever did was take our order and brought out the food.....never once did she come check on us, asked if we needed anything, or how the food was, etc. Even when we were done eating and were ready to pay the check, we had to walk up to the back area to ask for our check. Bad, bad, bad service, with a bit of an attitude, by the manager. However, the young girl who took over from the manager as we were finishing was much nicer...very nice, friendly, and helpful. I was peeling the chicken with my fingers and saw a long piece of plastic sticking out of it. As I kept on peeling pieces away, I found another. Known as 百利家 in Mandarin, this chain has expanded significantly overseas, with eight branches now open in Southern California (LA, City of Industry, Rancho Cucamonga, Downey, Artesia, Buena Park, Irvine, and San Diego). Pelicana is right next to the salon I went to so after a fresh haircut, my friend and I decided to give it a try. The space isn't huge, but it has a cozy bar area where you can enjoy drinks, watch sports on TV, and listen to K-pop music--a pretty chill vibe overall. They offer lunch specials until 3 PM, but we missed out that window so we just ordered the 반반 (Banban) Fried Chicken--half plain, half with sauce--for $30. We opted for the classic sauce, and the flavor was pretty authentic, served with two small dishes of pickled radish. The 오뎅탕 (fish cake soup) at $24 for just three skewers of fish cake, a few radish slices, and some small fish cake pieces, I personally felt a bit overpriced. When I got the food, my 4-year-old told me he was too hungry to wait until we got home, so I sat with him at an empty table so he could eat. The restaurant was completely EMPTY. Love Pelicana! They serve great KFC. Service has always been friendly. They are sometimes understaffed, but that is like any restaurant these days. Patience has always been rewarded with great food, pleasant atmosphere, cold beer, and sports on the TV. I love sitting at the bar if I'm solo. I have been here early and when it's busy, and the food is always good. They do seem to get a lot of online orders, so that may slow down service during the "rush" times. I've visited a few Pelicana Chicken restaurants in So. Cal and can now say with confidence they all have a couple of things I'm common: Great Chicken (in the Korean style), which I personally love. That said, like my experience at other locations they have 2 people working...the cook and some who does everything else. So one will not get bottomless water or even to be asked if you want more water or extra napkins (without asking). I visited this location during lunch; there was (only) a 3 person group along with me in the restaurant ...the do everything person did as good a job as possible all things considered. If you like hot (freshly fried) Korean Fried chicken, not sure any restaurant does it better than Pelicana ( in the Korean style as consistently good at all locations in my experience). That alone keeps me looking for them where I travel...but I also expect to get "service" no better than a food court or other fast food restaurant. read more

This was my first time trying this restaurant. It's located in Northwood Town Center towards the back, so it was a bit difficult to find as someone who has never been here before. I went during the afternoon, so it wasn't as busy as it usually is during nights. The atmosphere inside was cozy and the staff were very welcoming. I decided to get the garlic flavor, since that's typically my go-to at Korean fried chicken places, and it definitely did not disappoint. The wings were very flavorful and had just the right amount of spice. In my opinion, the cheese balls were a bit underwhelming. The dough was really chewy which I enjoyed, but I didn't taste much of the cheese. The fries were perfectly cooked and I thought they complemented the chicken very well since they weren't too salty. Unfortunately, the meal was a bit expensive for the amount of food I got ($27), but that can be expected for a promotional meal. Located in the same plaza as Zion, Pelicana took over the old Yogurtland spot and has plenty of parking available. Service was good throughout and there are some TVs located for good sports viewing at any of their tables. For the food itself, we ordered the Original Honey Soy wings, Original Smoky Hot wings, Crispy Honey Soy wings, Signature Chibob and the Cheese Balls. All of their wings are good, with my personal favorite being the Crispy Honey Soy wings. The cheese balls are also a nice sweet finish to the meal.
