We've been going to pelicans, East side, for about 40+ years but the last two years it's been difficult getting a table in the bar area. Even as early as 4:00pm on a weekday when they open they say they are full even though we can see many empty tables. We even tried calling ahead to make a reservation and there are never any open tables. They are not very accommodating. in any other restaurants the bar area is always first come first serve. we've also experienced a couple of hostesses and one particular waitress that have been pretty rude. We've never had any of these problems in the past. We miss the old welcoming atmosphere. We won't be going back because it's too much of a hassle. Possibly the best dining experience that I've had here in Albuquerque. About a year ago I started asking Uber/Lyft drivers what bars and restaurants they recommend for quality food/service and half of the time I've been told to try out Pelicans. The restaurant itself was an unorthodox rustic building that has a unique atmosphere and ambiance that separated itself from the standard layout of a franchised business. I didn't expect it to be as busy as it was but I was able to get a seat at the bar fairly quickly considering how many family's were packed in the lobby. The bartender was very personable while giving quick and insightful recommendations for the menu and drinks. Everything sounded good, but I went with the Almond Crusted Halibut and a Pina Colada. The halibut was phenomenal, especially with the creamy lemon caper sauce that paired with it. Quite literally the best seafood I've had living in this arid desert. The Pina Colada was a great dessert drink to pair with the tropical atmosphere of the restaurant. I would've gotten another if I wasn't so stuffed by the end of dinner. Half of the time I was there I was talking to an elderly European couple and they would NOT stop raving about how much they loved this place. I could not understand half of what they were saying but from what I could gather they've been dining at pelicans for over three decades because of the restaurants consistent adherence to delivering a quality dining experience without gouging on prices. The restaurant gave off a very tropical / Hawaiian vibe but the experience was that of a true American steak and seafood restaurant. There is no doubt in my mind that I will be returning to explore the rest of the menu with some friends. read more

The ambience was loud but keep in mind this is a preferred restaurant for local families celebrating birthdays get togethers after a hard weeks work. Awesome! I got the Alaskan King Crab legs and upgraded the steak to a filet mignon. Got the New England Clam Chowder and salad, got a side order of sautéed mushrooms and a side order of green chili. Pelican's is our absolute favorite restaurant in Albuquerque. Welcoming seafaring atmosphere, fireplace & well-stocked bar. The food is always fantastic and no matter what we order we're always delighted with our meal! Servers are also great and always efficient, happy and polite. In particular, our server, Taylor, was phenomenal! She took the very best care of us. She was friendly, funny and was able to tell us all about alllll the great choices on their menu. By the end of our dinner, we said she was the best server we can remember ever having! Can't wait to return and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat here. p.s. I'd heard so many good things about Pelicans that we had to try it for a Birthday dinner. It was a good choice. We made reservations and got a nice table. The place got busy and you could tell that a lot of people were regulars there. Our server was very good and quick to get our drinks plus Oysters Rockefeller to us. The Cosmo drink I ordered was incredible! I had the steak and scallops combo and my birthday partner had the salmon. Both were delicious and the steak was perfect but the scallops were over cooked and had very little taste. The Oysters Rockefeller was good but again needed more flavor. The shared salad bowl was really good and lots of it. At the end of our meal our server brought out a birthday desert surprise of a "huuuge" piece of mud pie. The prices were high but there is a bar menu with a bit lower prices. I'll definitely go back and try something different off their large menu plus get another Cosmo! Told it would take 45 minute to an hour. Ended up taking 80 minutes as it took 20 minutes to clean two tables. Server was okay but she didn't tell us anything about the place or for and assumed we have been there before, it was our first time. The food was okay for some but after over an hour wait it was less to be desired by most of the party. When telling the manager they were not happy we snapped at our waiter about the food. They didn't care about how we waited for longer than we were told or that we had to figure things out for ourselves as our waiter told us nothing. Our 53rd Wedding anniversary led to dinner at Pelicans on Montgomery tonight. It's been several years since we've been in, but this was the perfect time for us to reconnect. First, We had a reservation for 5:30. By 5:31, we were settled at the table with a waitress taking our drink order! And about our waitress, Ryliegh.....you should hope that all your servers were as good as she was for us tonight. Engaging, without hovering....always making us feel like we were her only table while the whole place was packed with guests. And the food was awesome! Perfectly cooked and as tasty as we remembered it from years before. Promptly served, right on time, perfectly cooked and Ryliegh always checking to see if we were happy. Haven't been here in a while (before the pandemic) so glad we went back last night. The place was busy; well staffed and very efficient. Our waiter, an attentive young man (J****e), kept his eye on all of his tables and kept his guests informed of where the next part of the meal was. He made conversation, made us feel so very welcome. Drinks came quickly, as did the appetizers. The service was quick but not rushed. When a table left the busser was there within 30 seconds to get the table cleaned and ready for the next guest. I had the catfish, it was outstanding! Hubby had the fish & chips, a large delicious portion. The place is a well run, well oiled machine. We will definitely go back soon! read more

Solid place! I've been coming to Pelican's for as long as I can remember and I still love it as an adult! We came here tonight to celebrate our anniversary and it was great. We didn't make a reservation so we had a 15-20 minute wait around 7 pm; not bad at all. Our server was amazing. He was so kind, attentive, and overall a joy. The only bummer was we had called ahead to verify they had Prime Rib and they had told us yes so we headed in. When our waiter came to order we were informed that they were actually out of prime rib. A bit of a disappointment but not a big deal- go early if you want it was our lesson! I got the Coconut shrimp which was served which some sort of berry dipping sauce- DELICIOUS! The sweet potato fries on the side were crispy and thin. I absolutely love the garlic they serve with their bread. I can say I've never had a bad experience here! The staff is friendly and professional! The food is outstanding! I don't often go for the fish since we live in a desert area. The idea of "fresh fish" falls short in my brain but they have a great selection and all tastes great! If you like steak, get the prime rib. It's so good you'd slap your grandma!! Just kidding but it is good! A little bit pricey but not bad. Its a nice dining experience for you and a loved one or for when friend/family visit from out of town. I like the bread that comes with the meal and their salad/soup choices are great but that's where it ends for me. Their main dishes are expensive as all get out and not that good. Really enjoyed dinner Monday evening. We were on the patio off the bar. Waite staff excellent. It was clean and we all felt safe. 25 percent off a bottle of wine on Mondays! My son took my husband and I here for a belated Mother's Day. We used to go to the Westside location which closed but heard it reopened and wanted to try it again. However we got stuck on the east side of town so we came to the Montgomery location. Oh my gosh I'd forgotten how much we loved this place. I have to eat gluten-free so the sadly the prime rib was out. But I ordered the rib eye blacked and it was great!
