I have been in the food and beverage industry my entire career and also with a secret shopper background working for places like Applebee's and other corporate restaurant chains. Although my husband and I have patronized pelicans restaurant for years and years, because of their excellent food and service every single time, last Saturday evening was the absolute best customer service I ever had their. Our server introduced himself as RJ. Who happens to be the best server I've ever had in the city of Albuquerque any restaurant anywhere. Customer service is what I do., customer service is what I expect when I go out to dinner in fine, dining, establishments, and or other. To shell out the kind of dollars I am expecting to shell out, I am looking, I am hoping for over-the-top, outstanding, above and beyond, over-the-top service like RJ provided.. finally at last! I did finally stumble upon... in my favorite restaurant a outstanding representative of fine customer service and representation of a company that I have ever seen or scouted. RJ not only took care of me and my husband's table text book perfect and in perfect time but he was more like a maestro, conducting a symphony with his his section of tables. Professional, completely knowledgeable of Pelican's menu and bar. 100% a people person and pleaser. This is what he does. And Pelican's is beyond lucky to have him as was I, and my husband. And so will you be if you are lucky enough to experience dining, like it should be with RJ taking care of you. But that's my professional opinion. It had been a minute since I had been there and I was NOT disappointed. It was very crowded and noisy; music to my Covid weary ears. We arrived at 6:00 and boy am I happy I had a reservation. It was a 45 minute with for those without reservations!! Started with sizzling mussels. They were amazing!! Ordered the prime rib which always makes me feel a bit off ; ordering red meat at a seafood restaurant but I was craving prime rib and they did NOT disappoint! Cocktails were on point as was the service. From start to finish, it was perfect. Glad to see this ABQ establishment survived Covid and all the chain restaurants popping up! I come here pretty often but never have I tried the pasta New Mexico. It's a shrimp and green chili fettuccine pasta. Hands down ones of the best meals I've had, it's kinda hidden on the menu I guess that's why I've never noticed it before. It's a definite a must try... What a disappointment! Planned husband's birthday dinner, when we ordered they were out of prime rib. We ordered rib eye with rice instead of onion rings When order arrived it had onion rings. Overall experience was decent. Both ordered a medium rare filet ( which comes wrapped with bacon) blah. Half the steak comes out rare, half comes out medium. That equals out to medium rare right? Got a fully loaded potato ( asked for no bacon ) comes out with bacon. Rice pilaf was okay. But I would have to say, the salad always seems to steal the show. For openers I have to say serving bead with whipped butter AND WHOLE GARLIC CLOVES softened in an oil base was just not fair. I was telling myself "no bread" until I laid eyes on the warmed bread next to the whipped butter and garlic, oh my gosh! The bottomless salad was good and my wife loved the blue cheese dressing. Going great. Sadly then came the main course and my over $32 Chilean Sea Bass could have almost fit on one fork. It was really good but way too small. Natalie had the shrimp with 6 large pieces and enjoyed it. UPDATE: At the end of the meal I mentioned the small sized Bass to the waitress and showed her the picture showing my fork next to the fish. The manager knocked 12$ off the bill. So I bumped the review up a star for that correct action. . I would have bumped it 2 up to 4 stars based on the good taste and quality of the meal, BUT the info I got was that most of the fish dishes vary in size quite a bit. Very good. I haven't been there in years and I did enjoy the main entrée alot. I had Alaskan King Crab legs and my husband had Chilean Seabass. Both were tasty and well prepared and plated. The only issue I have is the appetizers. Meh. Not worth the steep price you pay. $14.00 for a steamed artichoke?? Ummm I think not. In addition, the Oysters Rockefeller app was sub-par and the Oysters were way over cooked, flavor was 200% lacking as well. I did have a Martini though, and it was fabulous. Their mixed drinks are reasonably priced as they do come with a fair amount of alcohol, not weak at all. Atmosphere is nice and clean but very dated, I honestly didn't mind that. Very nostalgic if you've been going to Pelicans for the last 20 years. Service is good but not stellar. All waiters and waitresses could use a little revamping in that department. I think Pelican's has earned four and a half stars that would easily become five stars if they did a little up dating. Just prior to Covid they raised their prices and of course they raised them again. Their prices are high as the other great steakhouses but so is the quality of their food. Our household favorite is the sizzling muscles and from there we all go our separate ways. Everything from the seafood to the steaks to their classic a Hawaiian chicken are great. I've enjoyed pelican's since the 90's when I took my prom date there and the menu has not changed much on the selections. I do not find that to be a bad thing because you know what you are getting. Excellent bacon-wrapped seared scallops! Every entree comes with fresh sourdough, butter, and roasted garlic in olive oil. Also chowder or salad, and the saladvis tasty with a lot of vegetables. Each meal also comes with an additional side. One of my favorite local places for fine din8ng. But please, PLEASE, bring back your shish-kabobs. They were my go-to on your menu, from the age of 7 until you removed them, to my super grand dismay, somewhere in my late 30's, when I showed up post emergency hospital visit, fully intent on ordering them, and they were no longer available. Talk about massive dissapointment. I was also sad to see them still on your menu,but unavailable years later, post 2020. I had heard good things about this restaurant. We had a large group of 12. Made reservation days in advance. They sat us straight a way. But our table was 1 round table and 1 rectangle table pushed together. That resulted in 2 people having to sit oddly on the round edges of the round table sort of with their backs to the people at the rectangle table. Plus we were way too crowded in general. The restaurant was packed. I ordered steak with scallops. Ordered steak medium rare. It was prepared medium - well done and not tender. My scallops were overly peppered and inedible. Other members of our party had a few issues with the food as well. I will try this restaurant 1 more time at lunch and not on a holiday. read more

Our family visits Pelican's often. It is a great atmosphere, the seafood is incredibly good, & their steaks are quality cooked perfectly every time. We have gotten to know several staff members over the years, & it feels like home. We are always in awe of how many of their staff stay, some have been there over 20 years! Whether we're looking for a dinner for two or eight, they are always kind and accommodating. If you go, try the muscles, they are incredibly good. (Never thought I'd be a fan, but they are buttery steamed goodness defined.) The ahi tuna is always delicious, the filet is grilled and tender, and the prime rib is amazing. For a steak and seafood restaurant you think you'd be safe ordering steak. It's mediocre at best and was wrapped in a basically raw piece of bacon. A side of steamed veggies means a frozen bag microwaved. 3/4 drinks we ordered were wrong and it took a very long time for anyone to bring things we asked for.... Well, what they asked if we needed (sauce, condiments, the correct drinks, etc.) For the price you can find much better food and service elsewhere. read more

Second time coming here with a massive group and we received AMAZING service yet again! My husbands employer held a retirement party here and about 20 people attended- once the staff got everyone's drinks set and collected all the orders, I swear, everyone got their food in a matter of ten minutes. We barely had to wait! Whenever someone wanted a drink from the bar, the waiter & waitress were right on it. Our waitress Brooke was amazing. My friend and I shared the dinner for two coupon deal and we are so full. My cape cod and her margarita were on point! Bread and butter. A wonderful salad loaded with lots of sliced veggies. We both got the steak and shrimp. Three large breaded shrimp and a nice sized steak cooked to perfection with a loaded baked potato. My boyfriend and I decided to come here for date night and everything was just right! My steak was cooked perfectly and the lobster tail was treat correctly. My compliments to the cooks! Our waitress was very attentive, made sure our drinks were always full and she was very friendly. We ordered 3 orders of fish and chips after being quoted $12.99 for the dish. We also asked how many pieces of fish came with that dinner and were told 2 pieces came with it.
