What a sweet day to come to Penelope's Coffee & Tea place today! We were greeted by this lovely young lady named Maria! :) She was kind & courteous upon our arrival & taking our order! It's our first time here & I do like to support new business so I'll say just looking @ the surroundings & food selections is Awesome! :) I'm excited! I included pictures of what we got but unfortunately my hubby & I devoured the yummy donuts while waiting for our drinks & my hubby's turkey & bacon panini! The panini was delicious according to him! :)) I loved my Lillian Cafe drink with shaving of coconut on top of my whip creme! Not bad @ all! It's nice that whoever made it..made with love included the panini! I went here because I was curious about the womelette. I ordered to go. It was not very busy. My drink came up quickly. There was a wait for the food. By the time I got to the womelette, it was kind of soggy. I'm not sure if it's always like that or if it was because it was a Togo order. read more

Finally visited this place, early Monday morning. Wasn't hectic at all. There's table seating and a high chair area which is super cute. Cashier was super friendly and helpful. I ordered the "veggie" breakfast burrito, and an ICED Matcha Lavender latte for to go. OMGGGG MUST TRY. Instant fave-you won't be sorry. Get it. I have yet to try their other drinks. They also offer "pick-up" option which saves a lot of time via Door dash. Knocked off 1 star for the ambiance. It's beautiful inside but please play a little music. Came here in the morning a little after the rush. The staff were friendly and nice. Tried their white mocha but I should tried their matcha drinks! Food selections looks delicious. Came here on a Saturday before noon and it was surprisingly empty. Workers were very nice and attentive, and fast service. My bf got a cold brew and I got an iced Cookie Monster latte with oat milk. It was delicious, I would definitely get it again but without whipped cream. My bf also had their turkey bacon panini and said it was good with their sauce on the side. We finally made it in here. We tried coming here 2 weeks ago when they were still preparing the inside. The owner and his son informed us of the soft opening/ grand opening, but I'm not able to go since I don't get off until 2:30pm We went here on Saturday and it wasn't too busy. Maria was super helpful and patient with me. She walked me through a bunch of items so my family and I had a brunch feast in no time. Below are the items we tried: 1. Brewed coffee: My dad loved this so much he ended up getting a refill. 2. Green Tea: I'm not sure if they have their own tea in house but my aunt liked this better than another place we went to. 3. Hot chocolate w/ oat milk: My cousin enjoyed this and said it wasn't too sweet. 4. White mocha hot greek: My first time trying greek coffee. It has coffee grounds on the bottom. This was a nice treat and I took my time drinking it. I saw they have an iced one, I'll definitely be trying it next time. 5. Chorizo potato burrito: Made to order, this was warm and satisfying on a cold morning. 6. Plain croissant: My aunt inhaled this so I'm sure it was delicious. 7. Croffles powdered sugar: Not too sweet and loved the chewy texture. 8. Meat lover's womelette: My family enjoyed this combo of omelette amd waffle. I was hoping it would be a little crunchier. 9. Sugar donut: My dad inhaled this as well, so I'm sure it was amazing. 10. P's Tanzanian Peaberry pour over: Surprisingly, this was not a super strong coffee. It was fragrant and perfect, I didn't even add any milk. I never have plain black coffee. 11. Orange phyllo cake: This by far was my favorite. It reminded me of a pineapple upside down cake when I saw it. When I tasted it, it was heavenly and refreshing. I literally had my family each have a bite and I killed the rest lol. Overall, it was an amazing experience. The vibe inside was chill, and the people who worked there were so friendly and a delight to talk to. Stopped by here on a Saturday morning around 10:30am. We got a Cookie Monster speciality drink, Hot Lavender Matcha, Griddle breakfast sandwich, and the Meat Lovers Womlette. The Cookie Monster was ok. I didn't really taste the cupcake and cookie dough. I only tasted the salted caramel as it seems that the cupcake and cookie dough were only used as a topping. My friend who got the matcha said it was ok but was t strong enough. We both liked the Griddle and the Meat Lovers Womlette was decent as well. Kinda pricey, but I get it. Love this local DC spot. Gorgeous dining room that is clean and comfortable. The cafe latte was smooth, flavorful, and balanced. I liked the latte more than Starbucks. The chorizo breakfast burrito was steaming hot, had a delicious blend of egg, chorizo, potato and avocado. The sauce is tangy and had a great spiciness. I finally got to visit Penelope's today. I went in the afternoon so I didn't want caffeine and opted for a small hot chocolate. I ordered through the app, and the drink was ready at the estimated time. It was tasty! The space itself is small with not much seating. The workers were friendly and welcoming. Both the Latte & Gummy Bear Iced Tea we ordered were weakly flavored & not sweet enough; something to consider for those who enjoy their drinks on the sugary side. The waffle maker does a lot of the heavy lifting on their menu. The Belgian Nelly is a thick & dense waffle topped with strawberries & Nutella. We also shared a Bacon Womelette which is made up of eggs, tater tots, cheese, & bacon, & topped with green onions & sour cream. I love the uniqueness of a savory waffle. The texture is a cross between fluffy & spongey with a satisfying chew. I was lucky enough to visit Greece this year, and ever since, I've been craving a proper Freddo Espresso. Thank goodness Penelope's Coffee exists! We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon with family, and it completely hit the spot. The Freddo Espresso was on point the espresso was rich and bold, and the perfectly frothed foam made it taste just like the ones I had in Greece. It's served sketo (without sugar), which is exactly how I like it. If you enjoy strong coffee, you'll love this drink. We also tried a slice of their orange cake, and it was every bit as delicious as the orange cake we had in Greece. It brought back great memories. On top of the amazing coffee and pastries, the café itself is modern, clean, and has a welcoming atmosphere that's perfect for relaxing or catching up with friends and family. This is the old Starbucks location. If you haven't been to Penelope's, it's a great spot for coffee or food. The family is wonderful and very welcoming. The staff here is friendly and attentive to your order. The coffee is excellent, and you can ask for suggestions. Even the drip coffee is reliable. There's plenty of parking and seating available. Plus, the welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect place to enjoy your coffee, relax, or get some work done. The lavender latte is a must-try. This was my first time here and I wanted to give this place a try. It's funny because I used to frequent this location as a customer and former Starbucks employee. The place is a cute sized cafe with a decent menu offering. I ordered an iced medium lavender matcha latte with a side of loaded tots. I am a sucker for tater tots! Service was fast and friendly. Prices are on the higher side so be ready for the bill to total a higher amount. The tater tots arrived fast and were topped with an egg. I wished the egg was on the softer side and runny, but it still tasted fine. The sauce on top of the dish is on the spicier side and adds a kick to the dish. The lavender latte was good and not overly sweet. I did ask for half the sweetness at the register. Would I order these items again most likely not. Would I come back to this place maybe. This has become my favorite coffee shop when I stop off at Target or Jagalchi. They have great food, the chicken apple sausage breakfast burrito and the ham, egg and cheese are delicious quick breakfast items. I usually get the white mocha which is made with just the right amount of sweetness and with oat milk upon request. The location is clean, colorful and gives off a diner vibe which is I find comfortable. The service is friendly as well as prompt. It is someplace I intend to continue visiting. read more

I was super bummed when Starbucks closed, but this café more than made up for it! The pastry case was absolutely calling my name. I was pretty disappointed because of how hyped it was. $8 per coffee and it lacked flavor and coffee taste. Felt watered down and didn't seem like fresh espresso. I also got a chicken apple sausage burrito and it barely had sausage in it, mostly egg. :( The sauce for it was interesting but I don't think it paired well. read more

This place has excellent customer service! Maria was so sweet and kind. I honestly don't even care how good the coffee was because great customer service always makes everything taste better. I'm pregnant and one of the lattes was a little too sweet. She had no problem remaking it with less sweetness and was so kind about it. That level of service is hard to find these days.
