I assumed it would be a warmed-over version of the filthy old S&S, but I was wrong. The restaurant is completely changed. The decor is pleasant and bright, as is the wait staff. I was welcomed at the door, and Brittany quickly offered me a beverage. I'm used to watered-down coffee barely worthy of the name, but they actually had great coffee. The Early Birds pancakes came with a generous fruit compote and syrup. Brittany told me that one of the owners' wives concocted the fruit topping, and it was a tasty work of art. I forgot to take a picture. Everything is more expensive, but I walked out after a positive experience for $15.45. I left a generous tip for Brittany, recognizing her attentiveness and great personality. The only negative is the location, which is almost on Interstate 69 but not easily reached from it. Early Birds is an excellent new addition.

The menu was so extensive, I completely missed one whole page of breakfast foods. They had everything with the exception of bagels. Portions are huge. They were so big, I could not finish my meal. Two could eat comfortably with the sizes of the dishes they brought out. Grits were a nice texture, not runny or pasty and yes, they serve grits this far north. I would estimate that they serve about 2-3 measuring cups worth in a cereal bowl. My three egg omelet was fine. The vegetables and ham were mixed in with the egg, which was cooked just fine. Pancakes are their signature dish and I really enjoyed these, except they were too big. Two fluffy pancakes stacked together just about covered a dinner plate. Too often pancakes are floppy or overcooked. These were perfect. I would have liked the option for real maple syrup, though. Our server was "Joanie on the Spot" and she never let the coffee cup go below half full. In addition to being prompt, she was friendly and knowledgeable about the food.

Workers delivered food in a timely manner with a couple hiccups that were quickly corrected. I ordered a single burger and fries. Food was fresh and hot. Your order is delivered in a white paper bag, and that doubles as your plate. Next time I will get a double burger instead of single, as the comments were positive. Grilled onions are a nice option. Reasonable prices, I paid $12.36 for burger, fries, drink, taxes and tip. Burger Poet is a nice addition to our community.
