I chose Penske Toyota Collision Center because of the positive reviews I read online, particularly those mentioning David Franco. Unfortunately, my experience was mixed. My 2025 Toyota 4Runner was involved in a serious collision, and even CHP and the tow yard initially believed it would likely be a total loss. Penske repaired the vehicle instead, and cosmetically it now looks very good overall. However, the process was far more stressful than it should have been. The biggest issue occurred the day I picked up my vehicle. Within minutes of leaving the shop and getting on the freeway, the engine lost power and the truck stalled, displaying multiple system malfunction warnings. I had to have it towed back to Penske. They later determined an unsecured hose was the cause. That was a frightening experience that could have ended much worse, and it's something that should have been caught before the vehicle was released. After getting the vehicle back a second time, I continued finding issues that should have been identified during a final quality inspection. The driver's front tire was rubbing the inner fender liner, the fender trim was loose, the front bumper was misaligned, and the hood scoop wasn't sitting flush. Those items required another return visit. During that visit, I also found it disappointing that I was initially questioned about a cracked windshield washer reservoir and asked whether I had been off-roading. Considering the reservoir is located on the side of the collision impact, that question felt unnecessary. To their credit, they ultimately agreed to replace it as part of the repair. I also made several calls while I was out of town trying to coordinate pickup, so I expected that all of the details would have been thoroughly addressed before I arrived. Instead, additional cosmetic issues became apparent afterward, including noticeable paint overspray on the bumper and a small scratch that still need attention. Donna Potter, the collision center manager, deserves recognition. Once she became involved, communication improved significantly, and she made sure my concerns were addressed. I appreciated her professionalism and willingness to help. Overall, I don't question that Penske has capable technicians, and I'm grateful my 4Runner was repairable. My disappointment is with the lack of attention to detail and quality control before releasing the vehicle. Customers shouldn't have to identify issues that should have been caught during the shop's final inspection--especially after a major collision repair. I'm giving Penske 3 stars because they ultimately stood behind their work and have continued working to resolve my concerns. I simply wish the vehicle had been returned correctly the first time, without requiring multiple return visits or putting me in a dangerous situation on the freeway. read more

I'm going to be honest. It's very convenient for me to use this collision center. I get me vehicle serviced here and the collision center is approved by my insurance company. I have noticed, though, slightly "dings" after service, that weren't there before. This last time I had my windshield replaced. There were small shards of glass all over my dashboard. I had them repair my new 2026 Corolla. Overall I was happy with communication as they are not a DRP for progressive. I wanted a Toyota Certified shop, they are one of the few Toyota Certified shops in my area, others claim to be, but if you do your homework, you will find they are not being honest about it. Work performed was mostly cosmetic and sensor checks, looked good when completed. The most important thing was, they stuck to their word! The estimator, Dave Franco, told me I wouldn't pay anything over my deductible, as this was a big concern for me because they are not in Progressives network, and I didn't pay anything extra, only my deductible. read more

Just because I cannot give them a zero star! My husband took his truck in for service after an accident and all I can say about this experience is Horrible service. The front desk has horrible customer service, receptionist not passing messages to the adjuster, falling asleep when you go in, not picking up phones, etc. The adjusters don't call back, they say one thing and then when confronted they deny it. They try to wiggle themselves out of responsibility. you tell them about their front desk and all they say is "we know" but stay the same. No accountability from anybody. They give you the car back and ask you "any questions" very impatient, you say no at the moment and they leave like they are bothered. Once we got home this were the conditions we noticed we got the truck back. Also this message pops up and we were not notified either. Was it fixed? Who knows!! We took our truck there trusting them and this is what we receive and on-top we keep finding scratches on the car that were not there when we dropped it off. My car was repaired and took less than a week to fix my pumper. The repair was done well and the new bumper looked great. However, my specific complaint is they did not accept 'tap to pay' as a form of payment. I had been dropped off by a family friend and was unable to return home to get a physical card. I live 7 miles from this location. So, with no options and no transportation I had to walk 1 mile to my local branch and back to grab the funds I needed, which took 40 minutes there and back. My bank didn't need my physical card to provide me with my funds. I haven't come across many places at this point that don't take this form of payment. I've been to restaurants, local stores, malls, etc. with no issues and if they don't take this payment option they usually have a sign or clarify this information to the customer. But no one explained this to me, and there was no sign up at the front desk. My request would be that this be made clear to customers. I am a healthy person, so walking 2 miles round trip wasn't difficult for me, but I wouldn't want anyone with any health conditions to have to deal with this kind of situation. read more

This is my second experience dealing with collision and I regret taking my car here. My experience with South Bay Toyota and Cabe Toyota in the past for services, I had good experiences so figured I'd try this Toyota location since it was closer to home- what a miserable experience. The staff lacks communication on the process of your vehicle, the staff provide false information on updates and timelines. And management isn't compassionate about your needs and there's no eagerness to "help" or solve the problems. My tip- if you want to save yourself the running around and headache of a good experience DO NOT use Penske Collision of Downey for your collision services Update: I went to pick up my car after this under shield got replaced. No one walked me to my car to show my the repairs, talked to me about it. They simply left my keys in the car and left my engine running. The front desk lady asked for my rental keys and simply walked away with her clipboard. Totally unprofessional, losing a customer for business doesn't seem to bother this location. I made sure to let my insurance (Mercury) know that this so-called high quality collision certified location should not be a location for any Mercury insurance customer. Disappointing Experience at Penske Collision Center (PCC) I recently had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Penske Collision Center in Downey. After a minor fender-bender, I took my car there for repairs, expecting it to be completed within a reasonable timeframe. However, it ended up taking over two months to get my car back! Safe to say, my expectations were far from met. Excessive Delays: The repairs took an unreasonably long time. What should have been a straightforward repair turned into months of waiting. The first delay came with the initial inspection. This shop required me to first get a repair quote from my insurance prior to them doing their own inspection, which I thought was odd at the time but I figured they were just being thorough. So, I got it done and quickly set up an appointment to drop off my vehicle at PCC. It took PCC six days to complete their own inspection and notify me and my insurance. Three days later, my insurance approved the supplemental changes PCC recommended. That was on June 6 and that is when I expected the repair process to begin. I was wrong: yet another delay. On June 11 I received a text from PCC telling me that they received the email approving their supplement. I informed them that I also got the approval email-on June 6. By then I had already invested two weeks of my time to start over with another shop. When I spoke with the repair shop representative and asked for a rough estimate for date of completion, he said it would take about a month from the date they received approval from the insurance (June 11), so I expected to have my repairs completed by mid-July. My vehicle was dropped off at PCC on May 28, for their initial inspection; I did not get it returned to me until August 9. Poor Communication and Transparency: Throughout the entire process, communication was poor. I had to constantly text them for updates, and each time I was given a different excuse for the delay or their "update" provided little to no progress. It's frustrating to be without your vehicle for so long, especially for relatively minor damage. After several weeks of waiting, and multiple requests for an estimated completion date, I was finally informed that the grill for my car was on back order and would further delay repairs. This was a full seven weeks into the repair process. Unprofessional and unacceptable. Repair Quote Addendum Hassle: To make matters worse, after the repairs were finally completed, I was informed that my vehicle wouldn't be released until the insurance approved an addendum to the original quote. Why wasn't this communicated earlier? It felt like yet another delay tactic. Luckily for me, the insurance representative was even more upset with addendum and short notice, and I quote: "I have talked to both you and D**** about you sending supplements at the last minute. It is very hard to believe that you did not notice that a supplement would be needed given that you would have already had the receipts on parts that were purchased needed to assemble the vehicle. You don't assemble the vehicle in one day and you don't receive these invoices at the last minute. You are the only shop that does this and inconvenience the client by doing this. I am sorry I am unable to get to the assignment I already have assignments up to Tuesday. If it is only invoices, other shops release the vehicle as they know the assignment will get done. YOU choose to hold on to these vehicles and I am not going to drop all my assignments because of your lack of organization. At this point you can explain to our client why you decided to send a final supplement at 5:34 pm on Thursday Afternoon when you know that I already have my assignments for Friday. We talked about this and you assured me you would be more professional about this and giving me three-day notice so that I schedule and make sure the assignment is completed by the time the vehicle is ready to leave the shop, every other shop does it that way so why can't you do it that way and stop putting customers in bad situations." After this email and my own complaint, the vehicle was released to me the following day. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with little confidence in their ability to handle even minor repairs efficiently. I won't be returning, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place and consider alternative repair shops. read more

Mercury insurance referred me to this repair shop for my damaged glass and had the most confusing experience with the manager . I kept asking how does the process work and clear answers were not being given. I asked what would be the turn around time if I wanted a manufacturer part instead of aftermarket and he said he didn't know . If I didn't want to leave my car at the shop with an unknown turn around time then I would have to pay my deductible up front and wait to see if Mercury approved the part request and if it was not available I would get the after market park either way. The manager said he didn't know the turn around time because they focus on Toyotas not Mazda's . Very unprofessional in my opinion of not wanting to do the work to find out the price . I was told by the receptionist I needed to get an estimate which is why I went in but Mercury confirmed that they had approved the manufacturer part and there is no need for an estimate when going through a claim. Please hire professional staff or at least train them in better customer service with decent product and procedure knowledge. When we stepped outside for the manager to take pictures, he started telling me possibilities of how the damage could have been done and I said " how would I know?" He said " I'm just trying to make conversation but it looks like it's not going to work out" I agreed and wished him a good day . FYI : they also have a long wait to get an appointment for cracked glass . Which is wild in my opinion. I waited 7 calendar days to go in for this mediocre experience . read more

Wasted my vacation time going back and forth, 3 rental cars which exhausted my 30 day coverage, and just hours spent frustrated to get my car back to how it was. Car still wasn't right. Zero stars for service. Specifically the office. The girl answering the phone kept trying to cover for Lupe. My parents are senior citizens and went in for a minor repair through Allstate. Our claims rep was so upset at the shop. She too was irritated with Lupe and the staff. We got hung up on and transferred etc. Not just my parents, but the Allstate rep and me. Unacceptable level of service. The car was there for over a month. My parents car rental ran out. Skip this place and go any place but here. We got all excuses under the sun when someone did answer: Lupe was on the phone, the insurance still owed money (which lupe never sent a bill for), the insurance didn't answer, Lupe was on the phone again. Lupe was at lunch. I had to call from work on a conference call set up with Allstate on the line, myself and finally the front desk magically found Lupe. To my surprise I was able to solve it and get it the following morning. Lupe said she just hadn't washed it?!! She didn't know my parents wanted their car yet! She thought they were on vacation! What a disaster. If she would have just said they were busy and got behind I would have been much more understanding. Don't lie to customers or blame them. Attn Management: We need our vehicles for work and doctors appointments. Even if Lupe is screwing up what is management doing to manage the situation? I consider myself a good, loyal, repeat customer to this shop. Over the last few years I have had several repairs done to my cars here & have been satisfied without incident. Because of the great service I received, I would always refer all my friends and family to them. This year alone I have had two cars in for repair; my most recent experience with Customer Service Rep Lupe has left nothing to desire in returning to this facility. In my opinion, anyone who's Job it is to interact with the public should demonstrate professional courtesy and communicate with customers in a timely manner, or to communicate as promised. In my case, Lupe clearly lacks these skills; she made me feel like she was doing me a favor the times she did communicate. After a month without my car, I was no longer comfortable with this facility and decided to take my car out & find another shop to do the repairs, I would not have taken my vehicle out if Robert were there.
