I was excited to have a reservation at Peohe's on Valentine's Day last night. I have been there before and I like the food and it's very pretty inside. But it turned out to be one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Our reservation was for 945 when I got there a few minutes early I was told they were running 30 minutes behind. After 30 minutes I went to check again and they said they were running 45 minutes behind so in the meantime, I went to the bar with my boyfriend and we were sitting there at the bar waiting to order a drink. After about 20 minutes, I looked at this one bartender who appeared to have a moment and I said can I order a drink and he looked at me and sternly said no! I was shocked he spoke to a customer this way, but I thought maybe he's not a bartender. Maybe he is a far back or something. But still he should have been more polite. Five minutes later, he came up to me and took my order. I decided to let this go. I went to check in again and the hostess told me the kitchen is deadlocked. I said what do you mean? And she said they are pumping stuff out as fast as they can, but I'm not giving anybody an estimate anymore. I said can you give me a ballpark figure so I know if I should stay and wait? And she said you are number six. So we finally get a table about an hour and a half later than we were supposed to. The waiter appeared to be stressed and was not doing a very good job of hiding it. I asked him how his night was. I tried to be nice, but he continued to be rude for the whole meal. I was embarrassed also because this was my first Valentine's Day with my new boyfriend. They sat us at the patio corner (completely covered so it is not outdoors but technically indoors) with the amazing night view. We started off with the kimchi calamari which was surprisingly amazingly good! Bursting with flavors, it was crunchy and smooth to chew. I normally don't like fusion dishes but this was great. All the seniors in our group loved it as well. The size was also really big: big enough for all 8 of us to share a good amount as an appetizer. We contemplated on ordering another one because it was so good but since we had our main courses coming, we did not. All the food orders were cooked perfectly: one of our seniors needs to eat low-sodium only and they prepared her dish right on the mark. Not salty but still flavorful. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and the sea food dishes were nice and juicy. The only thing was, one of the lava cake didn't "lava" when we cut it but they took care of that for us. Just kindly talk to your server and they will everything they can to make it better. We simply mentioned it in a laughing way (because we were recording the cut and it was anti-climactic) and wasn't really complaining about it but they still took the extra step to take care of it for us. We were one of the last tables to leave but they never rushed us and didn't even make a hint about closing. * FOUR STRIKES, YOU'RE OUT * We had an 8PM reservation last night. Checked in and there were two hostesses at the hostess counter. They clearly noticed us, but neither of them looked up to even acknowledge us - both just kept typing and talking to each other, as if we weren't even standing there waiting for service. They seemed a little busy, but even the most basic customer service training teaches a quick acknowledgement and smile versus totally ignoring a customer. After standing there for 2 to 3 minutes, one of them finally greeted us. Their ignoring us and slowness to acknowledge us was strike 1. We were told they were running 10 to 15 minutes late on reservations, so we had to wait.They said they would text us when our table is ready. We went through the trouble to make a reservation in advance and they couldn't seat us at our reserved time - that was strike 2. Although we were told they would send us a text in 10 to 15 minutes, we had to return to the hostess counter 22 minutes later after they still had not texted us. That was strike 3, but we were being patient because they were a little busy, so we stayed and hoped for the best. The second time we approached the counter, one of the hostesses said they could seat us immediately if we're ok with a table on their outdoor patio. That was fine with us - great view and our usual nice weather, so another girl escorted us to our table. Upon sitting we immediately noticed that the table was super wabley - totally off balance, so we asked the girl to seat us at the empty table next to us (same area - same type of table). Here comes strike 4.... wait for it....... she said she couldn't seat us at the other table because they have a lot of reservations. When asked why she couldn't seat us at the other table considering that we were already there and her later reservations had not even arrived yet, she gave us a very unhelpful shoulder shrug. She could have at least offered to put a stabilizer wedge or piece of cardboard under the table. Her handling of the wabley table incident was strike 4, so at that moment we decided to leave and go to an even busier restaurant in a different area of Coronado where we had nothing but the best service from all of their employees from beginning to end. We will not be going back there. Based on our experience at Peohe's, their hostesses have a lot to learn about basic customer service. To the two females working the hostess counter at 8pm on July 19th 2025, perhaps employment at McDonald's would be a better match for your skill set. read more

Visited Peohe's after seeing they were part of San Diego's Restaurant Week. We went with a couple of friends and decided that the best option would to all order from their Restaurant Week Menu. For an appetizer, main course, and dessert, the meal costs $60 per person. Here are the different sets we ordered: Set #1 ($60): New England Clam Chowder: This was super delicious! I loved the flavors and the freshness of it. It came out at the perfect temperature for slurping! Fire Roasted Baja Salmon: This plate was a bit disappointing. For a seafood place, you would think they would exceed expectations here. However, everything was bland and the slice of salmon I got compared to my friend was half the size. Pretty upset how they thought it was okay to hand this out! It was probably 3oz worth of salmon.. Chocolate Mousse Cake: This was decent and was a better way to end the dinner after the main course. Set #2 ($60): Kale Cesar: This was pretty tasty and a good size for a starter salad. Nothing too special here. Surf n' Turf: The meat was super fatty and the shrimp a bit dry. The parsnip puree was very sweet and did not pair well with the chimichurri. Key Lime Pie: I personally enjoyed the creaminess of this, but my other friends could not get past the sourness of it. Mango Mojito ($12): Did not taste the mango at all here, but this drink was sweet and delicious! I would definitely get this again! This is No "Old" Fashioned ($15): Just a basic old fashioned. Nothing too special about it. Overall, the view was spectacular and coming here during sunset was something to remember. The service was great, but both of these things did not make up for the lack in taste or quality of their food. All of the food we got was just okay. Ordered the PuPu platter as an appetizer. Our favorites were the ahi and shrimp cocktail. For entrees we ordered the lobster and shrimp roll, as well as the French dip. The roll had way more shrimp than it did lobster, but tasted good. As for cocktails, we tried the mojito flight.
