Beautiful restaurant/speakeasy vibes! Oyster bar with caviar service and excellent choice of wines and champagne. One of my favorite places currently!

Came back because the customer service was attentive and was celebrating a friend's birthday so a champagne bar felt in order. We ordered two glasses of champagne and they had sushi hand rolls on the menu. Also love that they incorporated the feedback and brought us chopsticks - that was appreciated! The servers were friendly and took care of us, the vibes were great and they brought out a custom happy birthday cocktail for the friend which was a nice touch.

Fallen Empire at the Baby Grand is a gorgeous speakeasy with vintage vibes and luxe maximalist decor. It's a great spot for romantic cocktails and an intimate dinner with that special someone, or chic cocktails with friends to wrap up the night or get the party started.

Ambiance is fun, gaudy, and opulent. I am here for it! Drink choices were a bit sparse. However, the wine and champagne choice are aplenty. We did not get food so I can't give input on that. The service was great. Our server was friendly and had good knowledge of the menu. Overall, I would definitely try this place just for the vibe. It a good date place as well.

one of the best's speakeasy's ever , fallen empire is my favorite place of all time, the service was amazing, the ambiance was extraordinary, under the sea vibes , definitely come here with ur friends or lover for sure. And oh the food was so freakin good, I got the Alaskan King crab with a caper crab salad & cocktail sauce + a shrimp cocktail for the table, and yes they are bite sizes but SOOO delicious, so I wouldn't come here looking for a full course meal it is a champagne & oyster bar , but the drinks are bomb asf, and at the end the bill will come , so always be ready to pay the tab + a good tip if you may , my waiter was the best tbh ,my night was amazing here will be coming again soon with manz :) ( OH! and always make a reservation !!!)

We really enjoyed it. The place is beautiful, the drinks were great and so was the food. The only thing we were disappointed about is the amount of times the door was opened to just let people look inside. We felt it ruined the atmosphere.

We made a reservation for a Tuesday at 7:30 & were seated quickly even though it was fairly busy! Service was wonderful and the drinks/raw bar were top tier. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!

If you're going JUST for the drinks, then yes it's 100% worth it. The drinks were good, even though I had a mocktail. Both my friend and I were starving and hadn't eaten all day bc we were essentially saving our appetite for our reservation. The food was sub par, to say the least. I get that it's a speak easy and the focus is on drinks, but a little effort for the price would be nice. We both ordered lobster rolls and I thought they smelled like body Odor, but I kept ther to myself.. not even two mins later .. my friend says "these taste musty" and I'm like ok.. indefinitely smelled BO, but at that point I was starving! We both did not like our food, but again we were starving.. we wrote it off and said we'll just try to get seats at the bar of Night Hawk and order food. The first come first serve ended up taking too long so we walked over to Brigatine to eat: which is crazy bc our bill was about $150 + Just to have to go somewhere else and get food to fill our appetites. Service was great though, everyone was friendly.

We celebrated my wife's birthday (birthday eve, more accurately) at the exquisite little champagne & oyster bar known as Fallen Empire, in the flamboyant, splashy, vibey Baby Grand Hotel. The space is dazzling; you feel like you're inside a Kusama art exhibition with all the mirrors and lights. The music is upbeat and groovy. The champagne selection is impressive, with top quality by-the-glass options and a nice array of bottles from all over the Champagne region in France. The seafood plates were delectable, and the service was friendly and warm. Waiter Dan and somm Rubi were super helpful and nice. We enjoyed the super fresh kumamoto oysters, caviar cones (tiny little umami/caviar bombs of flavor), kanpachi sashimi, and king crab - which included pieces of fresh grab, and a surprisingly delightful crab cocktail mixed with capers. Overall, we had a superb experience, and we'll be back for celebrations and special occasions. Our only qualm was with the caviar service dish (he said, quickly distinguishing himself as a massive douche). Caviar was piled on top of a big dollop of crème fraîche, which made good sense. But it was accompanied by truffle flavored potato chips, rather than regular chips. The truffle flavor of the chips distorted the brine, nutty flavor of the caviar. With a dish as distinctive of delicious as caviar, the gimmick of truffle is really not needed. I'm hopeful the caviar service will come with regular potato chips or Bellinis or some other non-truffle option in the future.

Small space but great ambiance, very beautiful elegant Gatsby vibe. Drinks were great, food was delicious. Pricey but awesome experience

We were so excited to get a reservation for this new speakeasy. I was so impressed with the decor sand how intimate it was. The ambiance was incredible! The staff was great! The only thing that left me feeling a bit disappointed was the limited drink options and they were out of some drinks. They had more options at the bar outside. The night hawk drinks were amazing and were very large! They were also out of oysters, but the shrimp cocktail was amazing! I can't wait to come back!

Umami Brussels Sprouts (10/10) - The best Brussels sprouts I've had in San Diego so far! They had a nice crisp to them and weren't too oily or anything, but had a LOT of flavor, which I love. It didn't just taste dry and salty like Brussels sprouts sometimes can. Definitely one of my favorites. Molten Butter Cake (10/10) - This dessert is an angel food cake with pretzel toffee and caramel inside, then it goes in the oven to get warm before being brought out and topped with vanilla bean gelato and caramel. It was so well balanced. It looked really sweet, but because of how balanced all the flavors were, it didn't actually taste overly sweet. I don't even like caramel and it was SO good in this. The outside was soft, and the toffee and pretzel inside gave it a nice crunch. I really liked the combination of the soft cake with the crunchy pretzel toffee. Wagyu Cheeseburger with fries (8.5/10) - The patty had a smoky, grilled type of flavor that was really yummy. It was a good portion and was made really well. The fries were also a decent addition as a side choice. Egg Sandwich (8.5/10) - Pretty basic, but really well made and put together. The bun was a bit toasted, so it wasn't super soft and had a slight crispness to it, which I liked. The flavors were really well balanced and it was honestly so good. Service: The best service! Even when it wasn't a staff member in charge of our table, we were frequently checked on and everyone was super attentive and conversational, which made the experience a lot more personal and better. I love being able to share a laugh and have a conversation with the staff. The staff member responsible for our table was Heider, and he was super attentive, helpful, conversational, and patient. We also loved meeting Sasha! She's super nice and conversational as well. Thank you for having us! Ambiance: Such a nice restaurant inside and outside. We got the patio high top seating and it was really nice. It was hot out, but the big umbrella helped. It's super busy, but it still felt nice outside, and everything looked super clean and aesthetic. Really nice vibes overall.

In our search for an alternative nearby, we happened upon Ironside which was opening in just another 10 minutes and let me tell you, it was worth the wait. The atmosphere is amazing, we loved the decor, and we were lucky to show up early because the entire restaurant filled up within the hour. We started with a dozen of the raw oysters, they were fresh, juicy, and incredibly flavorful. We especially loved the minionette sauce and the included horseradish. Next up was the bread, the butter it comes with is salted and tastes amazing paired up with the exquisitely light and fluffy bread. By this time, our drinks came up and the Mai Tai was the winner of the day. The aperol spritz and Ghostwriter were also good, but the Mai Tai was possibly the best that I've ever had. Next up, we had the Oysters Rockefeller, which had a combination of two varieties, one with caramelized onions and the other with a crispy chili drizzle. Both were delicious, but I preferred the creamy freshness of the raw oysters. Then the main characters showed up, the lobster rolls, clam chowder, and the amazing local catch of sea bass. The winner for this round was the 'brought in that morning' sea bass, but the lobster rolls took a very close second place. Everything was cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. The lobster rolls were a little unorthodox, being more of a lobster open face sandwich, but everything was so good, we are looking forward to coming back again. If you're in the area and are a fan of excellent sea food, Ironside deserves to have a place near the top of your short list. The service was great, the atmosphere is worthy of sharing on social media, and the food approaches that of Michelin recognized establishments. We'll be back again to try the amazing looking octopus and will recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to San Diego!

Before I get started on the hundreds of amazing things to say about this place, let's start off with one "annoying" thing. It was hard to find. There were absolutely no signs in the hotel pointing you to where the restaurants would be. We also asked several hotel staff members and got even more confused. Once we found the little strip of several restaurants, we accidentally walked right past it thinking it was apart of the NoBu restaurant. Now that I know where it is, I'll know exactly where to go. Let's talk about all the GOOD! The view was beautiful. There were lots of kids playing on the grass in front of the restaurant but the way they set up the place, it wasn't loud at all and cute to see. The staff members were on top of their game. Nothing went unnoticed! They all worked as a team. The Knowledge about the restaurant, the food, and the drinks was very impressive. Even if you couldn't decide, they would happily guide you to make the right choices. - I want to give a shoutout to Mark our waiter. He was an absolute delight. He was witty, knowledgeable, lead us in the right direction, and spoiled us for our birthday celebration dinner. He made the experience 10x better. About the food...I'm still thinking about the delicious food they served and it's been weeks since I was there. I want to put extra attention on the halibut ceviche, WOW! That needs to be a staple is you visit, it's a must try. Also please don't ever take this off the menu! I would solely travel out here just for the alone and buy 5 at a time (yes it was that good). The sauce they put it in makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Everything here is very unique and worth it. There wasn't one bad food item at all. Plus the drinks, were so smooth. If for whatever reason you wanted to alter your drink (like someone at my party did) they were happy to accommodate and then they also executed perfectly. It is a little bit on the pricier side, but once you experience the service, the extra care, and the delicious food you can confidently say it's worth it. I hope more people experience this place, they deserve more than five stars.

By the way it was just me and my husband...not 10 people. Papatas bravas - told her I am okay with aioli on the side. First time we got the dish it was SMOTHERED in the aioli...looked gross. They fixed it by bringing deep fried potato's out w the sauce in the size. It was unhealthy how much oil these had in them. Bad service, and communication. Won't ever come back!

The seafood is always fresh, which is really what you want from a place like this. Their oysters and raw bar are definitely worth checking out, and you can tell they take the quality of their seafood seriously. Even the warm bread and butter is something people rave about, and honestly, I can see why. Service has also been great every time I've been here. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful without being overbearing. They're good at making recommendations and giving you time to enjoy your meal without making you feel rushed. The vibe is another big reason I like coming here. It has that upscale but still lively atmosphere where you can dress up for a nice dinner but it doesn't feel overly formal or stuffy. It can get busy and energetic, especially later in the evening, which actually works perfectly for the Gaslamp vibe. And speaking of location, you really can't beat it. It's right in the heart of the Gaslamp, so it's a perfect stop before heading out for some nightlife shenanigans. Grab some seafood, have a cocktail or glass of wine, enjoy the atmosphere, and you're already right in the middle of everything afterward. Whether it's a date night, dinner with friends, or just looking for a nice seafood spot downtown, Water Grill has been a pretty reliable choice for me.
