Fallen Empire at the Baby Grand is a gorgeous speakeasy with vintage vibes and luxe maximalist decor. It's a great spot for romantic cocktails and an intimate dinner with that special someone, or chic cocktails with friends to wrap up the night or get the party started.

We really enjoyed it. The place is beautiful, the drinks were great and so was the food. The only thing we were disappointed about is the amount of times the door was opened to just let people look inside. We felt it ruined the atmosphere.

Ambiance is fun, gaudy, and opulent. I am here for it! Drink choices were a bit sparse. However, the wine and champagne choice are aplenty. We did not get food so I can't give input on that. The service was great. Our server was friendly and had good knowledge of the menu. Overall, I would definitely try this place just for the vibe. It a good date place as well.

We celebrated my wife's birthday (birthday eve, more accurately) at the exquisite little champagne & oyster bar known as Fallen Empire, in the flamboyant, splashy, vibey Baby Grand Hotel. The space is dazzling; you feel like you're inside a Kusama art exhibition with all the mirrors and lights. The music is upbeat and groovy. The champagne selection is impressive, with top quality by-the-glass options and a nice array of bottles from all over the Champagne region in France. The seafood plates were delectable, and the service was friendly and warm. Waiter Dan and somm Rubi were super helpful and nice. We enjoyed the super fresh kumamoto oysters, caviar cones (tiny little umami/caviar bombs of flavor), kanpachi sashimi, and king crab - which included pieces of fresh grab, and a surprisingly delightful crab cocktail mixed with capers. Overall, we had a superb experience, and we'll be back for celebrations and special occasions. Our only qualm was with the caviar service dish (he said, quickly distinguishing himself as a massive douche). Caviar was piled on top of a big dollop of crème fraîche, which made good sense. But it was accompanied by truffle flavored potato chips, rather than regular chips. The truffle flavor of the chips distorted the brine, nutty flavor of the caviar. With a dish as distinctive of delicious as caviar, the gimmick of truffle is really not needed. I'm hopeful the caviar service will come with regular potato chips or Bellinis or some other non-truffle option in the future.

We made a reservation for a Tuesday at 7:30 & were seated quickly even though it was fairly busy! Service was wonderful and the drinks/raw bar were top tier. Highly recommend for a memorable night out!

If you're going JUST for the drinks, then yes it's 100% worth it. The drinks were good, even though I had a mocktail. Both my friend and I were starving and hadn't eaten all day bc we were essentially saving our appetite for our reservation. The food was sub par, to say the least. I get that it's a speak easy and the focus is on drinks, but a little effort for the price would be nice. We both ordered lobster rolls and I thought they smelled like body Odor, but I kept ther to myself.. not even two mins later .. my friend says "these taste musty" and I'm like ok.. indefinitely smelled BO, but at that point I was starving! We both did not like our food, but again we were starving.. we wrote it off and said we'll just try to get seats at the bar of Night Hawk and order food. The first come first serve ended up taking too long so we walked over to Brigatine to eat: which is crazy bc our bill was about $150 + Just to have to go somewhere else and get food to fill our appetites. Service was great though, everyone was friendly.

Small space but great ambiance, very beautiful elegant Gatsby vibe. Drinks were great, food was delicious. Pricey but awesome experience

We were so excited to get a reservation for this new speakeasy. I was so impressed with the decor sand how intimate it was. The ambiance was incredible! The staff was great! The only thing that left me feeling a bit disappointed was the limited drink options and they were out of some drinks. They had more options at the bar outside. The night hawk drinks were amazing and were very large! They were also out of oysters, but the shrimp cocktail was amazing! I can't wait to come back!

It's an order at the counter with a small seating area inside and a nice patio outdoors. Purchase & provided a number. Not only do that have their famous lobster rolls, but they also have additional signature sandwiches, specialty soups, salads and home made cole slaw as just one of their side options. Most people here order the classic lobster roll as did I. That said, you can also customize your roll, plus they offer shrimp and crab choices too! Not to long of a wait, but keep in mind ALL orders are made "fresh to order", so if they're busy it can take a little longer. Presentation was nice and sandwiches are served with a slice of fresh lemon that brightens the taste. The highlight was the decadent butter fried roll. It was warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. You can taste the butter in each bite. They provide fresh cold water that you can serve yourself which was welcome with the warm weather. Additionally, they have soda and lemonade. It could be considered a bit pricey, but everything I was eating on my San Diego trip near the beach is. Service was friendly and they brought my meal to my table which was nice. Would definitely go again. Note-There are two other locations in the San Diego area. If you have to use the restroom there is not one inside their establishment, it's a few buildings down and they will provide you a key and directions.

Every bite was loaded with flavors, making for one of the best dining experiences I've had in recent times. The vibe here is European. With $1.50 oysters, it's almost like a no lose situation at this point so honestly, give it a try. That being said, oysters aren't the star of the show and that's crazy coming from someone who can eat 3 dozen oysters in one seating. Get the crab toast, it's magical. Get the happy hour burger, the sesame seed bun is the winner. The most memorable part of the meal?? The squash salad dish that was cooked to perfection. This was something I couldn't stop going back and honestly, I wanted to lick the plate clean. I would be mistaken though if I didn't mention the service. I truly wish I remembered her name, but she was the only one working that day (her name started with a K). She was so great and handled the whole floor like a pro. She's a good one and she deserves a raise for sure. In conclusion, go here and ask questions later. Promise you won't regret it.

The atmosphere is fun, immersive, and full of character. The oysters were absolutely incredible, and happy hour is the perfect time to visit with $1 oysters. The lobster roll was equally impressive--buttery, tender, and practically melted in my mouth. Our two drinks came out quickly, our orders were accurate, and the food was fresh and flavorful. We ordered the "Big" Seafood Platter, and everything was fresh--the oysters were especially delicious, and the tuna sashimi was another standout. Our server was attentive, friendly, and happy to answer all of our questions, which made the experience even better. My only complaints were that the music was a bit too loud and the lighting was very dim. We ended up asking if the music could be turned down because it was difficult to have a conversation, and the low lighting made it a little hard to read the menu. Aside from those minor issues, the atmosphere was great and the overall vibe was really enjoyable. I'd definitely come back!

For being one of the premier restaurants at 'The Del', it's run by a bunch of FOH and BOH clowns. We had a reservation and requested to be seated indoors, and we watched not one, not two, but three back-and-forth conversations that the hostess had to have with the manager in order to make that happen. The crowd here consists mostly of pretentious and obnoxious rich people, and the decor is Pottery Barn Coastal Chic. We got a crappy table and that intro to Serea pretty much dictated how the rest of the night went. It took our waitress almost 15 minutes to come and acknowledge our existence, and while she was very nice and actually seemed competent at her job, it was clear she was in the weeds and couldn't handle her section. We got two $23 cocktails that had clearly spilled on their way to the table; the gimlet was OK and the Old Fashioned could have been made by your local Irish bar. For apps, we started with the grilled octopus and the swordfish "tacos." They put the octopus plate down and said, "Careful, it's really hot," which is code for: "this has been sitting under a heat lamp for a while." So, no surprise, the meat was rubbery and the tentacles were like slime. There was so much raw onion on top of everything it was absurd. At least the potatoes were cooked correctly! The pita of the taco was from a supermarket and while the sauce and fish weren't bad, there was, again, a mountain of raw thinly sliced red onion that overwhelmed everything. For mains, we do have to say the crusted seared tuna was the one decent dish of the evening. It was cooked correctly and we enjoyed the accompanying dolmas. Our daughter got a fish and chips where the breading on the fish immediately fell off. Even an 8-year old can tell when there's a fool running the kitchen and observed with some chagrin that "there's more chips than fish." The biggest sin, though, was the avgolemono--which was saltier than the ocean outside--and had zero lemon and zero dill. It was a $32 bowl of brown salt water with some chicken floating around it. Anyway, we shouldn't be surprised that this place underdelivered this egregiously, but we were shocked by just how bad it actually was. Two stars, barely. Go elsewhere.
