I had always considered Peohe's a fine dining, fancier restaurant in San Diego. After my dining experience, I was not impressed at all and would not consider Peohe's an upscale or fine dining restaurant. Parking - Parking was okay for a weekday, but I can imagine the lot filling up for weekends. Dress - Dress is casual!!! I dressed a little nicer for this restaurant because I thought it was fancy but I saw women in yoga pants, men in flip flops and tank tops, very beach-like. Wait Time - I had made a reservation and was asked to wait to be seated, no more than 5 minutes. This is fine. However, another guest went up to the hostess stand, removed his mask to speak to the hostess and then proceeded to sneeze, with his mask off 3 times on the hostess in the direction of other guests. This is disgusting, even not in COVID times, and the hostess was clearly shocked to say anything. Definitely unsettling to begin my dining experience here. Atmosphere - With COVID, I am aware it's best to keep doors open for airflow but with that, I noticed a couple flies in the area near me. I also noticed that the floor had not been vacuumed before we sat there, with obvious trash and crumbs still under/around the table Food - Bread and butter: Was fine, they provide 3 rolls and butter with salt. - The Pupu Platter appetizer ($28): I enjoyed the Thai chicken spring rolls the most and the lobster CA roll and shrimp cocktail the least. The seafood seemed day old, definitely not fresh. - Chilean Sea Bass Pinot Noir ($48): The piece of fish was very modest, but the pinot noir sauce was very good. The potatoes and asparagus were nothing to write home about. Overall, I was let down by this restaurant. My daughter chose Peohe's to celebrate her 30th birthday. We drove down from Orange County to join her, her boyfriend, the boyfriend's parents (visiting from Philadelphia), and my son. Pros: Wonderful location, by the ferry landing, facing the downtown skyline. Inside, grotto-type feel as you enter. We had a perfect table where everyone had the view. We were seated less than 5 minutes after our 5:30 reservation. The rolls they serve are delicious. The two female servers were very nice. Cons: My wife and I felt the food was average. She had grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and clam chowder. I had grilled swordfish with coconut rice and sautéed squash. At $30-$50+ for an entree, salads and soups extra, the food doesn't justify the price. There were multiple mix ups with the drinks. I was served a second beer I didn't order, the wrong beer was brought for my daughter and her boyfriend (she just drank it), and the boyfriend had to wait too long for the right beer to arrive. My son finally had to ask for the second drink he ordered. Bottom line: I think you're paying for the location and the view. Would I come back? Maybe for lunch, or drinks and appetizers. This place is not what I remembered it to be. The first time I ate here was probably over 15 years ago.. and it used to be a fancy and expensive place for special occasions. Now it's just expensive and the food is "meh" at best. Don't get me wrong.. the views are still spectacular.. especially during sunset or at night.. but I wish the food matched the view. The ahi tuna looked discolored and not fresh.. as I'd it was previously frozen and was thawed days prior. The egg rolls seemed like they were also previously frozen.. The rice on the sushi and tuna stack was dry and hard like it was old and refrigerated. The lobster and shrimp roll was mostly shrimp and maybe a sprinkle of lobster. The bacon on the Cobb salad was also hard and seemed old. The shrimp was also dry. Unfortunately, I will not be going back to this place.. We went here for Mother's Day with a party of 15. Had a reservation at 1:30 and got seated a little before 2:00. Our waitress was Thuy, she was really nice and I kind of feel bad because my sister was a bit complicated (but you will see why). But the complaint isn't about her. We put in all our order from the lunch menu with Thuy while still waiting on 2 more people. A few minutes after that, someone came by and told us if we wanted to order from the lunch menu it has to be now, which we already did. But baffling to us because it wasn't even 3:00 yet for the dinner menu. A few minutes later the 2 from our party we were waiting for arrived. The same person came out and switched our menus and said we couldn't order the lunch menu anymore. Thuy came out and told us she only put our appetizers in but not the lunch order. After a little back and forth they made an exception since we had already order before the switch. I mean, really wasn't our fault that we "missed" lunch. I don't know if it's because of the large party, limited staff due to covid, or because of the lunch/dinner menu issue. The food took a while to come out. The pupu platter was ok. It's frustrating when a restaurant is in a good location with nice views but the food does not meet expectations. We came here for lunch and ordered the crab and spinach omelette, fish and chips, seafood salad, lobster and crab roll, and the French onion soup. All were less than average in taste. The omelette was dry and salty and the potatoes that came with it were very greasy. The salad was just okay as was the lobster roll. The fish and chips were extra greasy. And I've had better French onion soup. And we had the calamari too which wasn't worth it. The service was very good and parking was okay. Came in for lunch ,hardly anyone in the restaurant. It took over 10 minutes to have someone take my order,in addition there was only 1 server that was also bussing tables. My food came out pretty quick but for the amount I paid for the shrimp bento box,it was disappointing. The sushi rolls tasted prepackaged and the avocado in it was brown, as well as the "crab" was bright red. I couldn't even eat more than one piece. The salad in the bento box was drowning in whatever sauce. I also ordered a mango mojito and I'm pretty sure it was just a glass of ice and juice and hardly (if any rum). Came here for brunch but it was a Saturday so not the brunch menu. Driving up there is ample parking. The front of the restaurant is beautiful and even when you walk in the ambiance is so welcoming. We were seated in the balcony area right next to the water. What a beautiful view minus all the machinery (LOL). We started with the crab and avocado it was delicious but the taro chips were a little hard and broke easily. I saw some of the other reviews regarding the food I don't know why. I ordered the lobster roll and it was packed with lobster and so delicious. My friend ordered the truffle pasta and I don't know how to describe how good it was. The only downside and this is becoming too common is the service we received. Based on previous reviews, I was a little apprehensive to come here but my friend picked this place for restaurant week. Let's start with the good... Views: 5 stars!! Service : 5 stars!! Our server was attentive and really nice so no complaints there. We went at 3pm on a Friday and we got sat right by the water and weather was perfect. We started with the Kimchee Calamari; it was really delicious, but did not have the slightest kimchee flavor, more of a mild spicy mayo, but nevertheless the only food item that I would order again. My glass of wine which was paired with my main entree was also delicious! My girlfriends both ordered cocktails and claimed they were both very sweet and hardly any liquor. Now on to restaurant week food; I ordered the margarita shrimp, NY Steak, and mini lava cake. The shrimps were huge which is a plus, but the sauce that was all over it was overpowering, it came with these dry little cornbread polenta pieces. I basically scraped off as much sauce as I could and ate the shrimp. My NY steak was cooked well but very very fatty and hard to eat, it came with a potato cake that tasted like thanksgiving stuffing which was not bad, but the carrots were undercooked and hard to eat as well. My lava cake was not a lava cake, no lava inside but rather just topped with chocolate sauce, it was ok but should just be advertised as a chocolate cake. Overall I don't think I would return especially because we paid $300 for food that was mediocre at most. read more

We practically ordered everything on the menu from the Pupu Platter, Clam Chowder, Burgers, Lobster Roll, Salads, and more. The fish and chips weren't fresh and served soggy, the sushi on the pupu Platter had practically no filling inside, the tuna tower was served with rice pilaf which the tuna bled on the rice. Both of my kids' meals were prepared wrong and had to be sent back. The kids had to wait to get their food while everyone else was eating, which if you have kids, you know is not fun for anyone. My salmon plate had soggy veggies that were extremely overcooked and the salmon had too much sauce on it that was overpowering. No one in our party of six had anything great to say about their food. The shrimp cocktail tasted like ketchup, and the Poke stack was dripping a weird red color, I believe it was colored to look more fresh? Best part of the restaurant week experience was the view and free parking but the food left so much to be desired. Peohe's is currently offering a $50 per person three course meal during the week of April 4th. They get quite busy at dinner time so I suggest making reservations through Opentable. Parking was easy for plaza patrons and we were seated immediately upon checking it. The restaurant week menu wasn't provided and we had to ask for it. =GOOD= *View: although we were seated indoors, our booth faced towards the waterfront so we enjoyed the view regardless. They have outdoor heaters for when it gets darker so both areas are great options. The interior decor had various stones and running water that contributed towards a tranquil ambiance. *Bread: the complementary rolls were dense and warm. Enjoyed the salted whipped butter and served as a nice starter. *Pomegranate Mojito: had a decent selection of fruity cocktails and mocktails. Tart and minty. Could have used less ice though. =MEH= *Lobster Bisque: had a couple lobster chunks at the bottom of the bowl. The bisque itself was very bland, needed more cayenne or herbs. Came lukewarm. *Clam Chowder: although there were chewy clams throughout the bowl there wasn't substantial flavor. Just tasted creamy without any presence of the sea. Some bacon or chives could have really elevated it. *Prime Rib (10oz): came with 3 potato mash, au jus and horseradish sauce. Was a bit overdone for my liking and the cut was tough. Flavor was decent. The au jus was strangely sweet and resembled teriyaki sauce so I avoided it. The potato mash was underwhelming and needed some gravy or butter because it tasted like nothing. Very pathetic portion of mash too. *NY Strip: came cubed with a sage potato cake. Tough meat and we would have preferred it to not be precut. Potato cake had more flavor with slight crisp. There was a sweet sauce drizzled on top that added moisture. Small portion for an entree. *Mini Lava Cake: worst way to end a meal. Incredibly hard and the spoon couldn't even cut through the cake. Ice cream was already melted by the time it came out and the plate looked like a mess. No internal lava aspect, just wreckage on top and around the cake. *Key Lime Pie: slightly better than its dessert counterpart. Very tart with a tough crust. Was swimming in a citrusy strawberry sauce. While our server was attentive, the food was abysmal. Our best bites started with the bread and then it was all downhill from there. The dessert presentation was unforgivable and literally left a bad taste in our mouths. How disappointing that a venue so beautiful could produce such subpar food. Came here the day after my wedding with my wife and two friends.. we ordered Calamari and a crab cake for appetizers. We all ordered New York Strips for entrees. Two of us preferred Medium Well, one preferred Medium Rare, and one Well Done.. we waited about an hour for the steaks and about half an hour for the appetizers. No issues with the appetizers.. The issues are with the steaks... each steak came back well done.. dry and unseasoned.. you could smell that there was no seasonings to the steak... one steak had a wooden pick on it stating "M well steak".. none of the other steaks had picks in them... we spoke with the guy who took our orders and the food runners attitude was subpar when notifying him of the issues. (Not his fault, but we wanted the issues to be handled before we asked for a manager) One person decided to get their steak remade.. took about 20 min, and came back with a rosemary stick on top lmao. Talk about not giving a true fuck. That was a "here, now shut the fuck up" moment if I ever saw it. We then sought out the manager and notified him of the issues as well. Told him we were upset that we waited over an hour for the food to be tasteless and dry and that we didn't want the food anymore.. he responds by saying I'm sorry for the inconvenience, do you guys still wanna eat it or you want me to take it" lol we literally just said we didn't want your nasty steaks. The end result was they removed the food we didn't eat and we left. An observation made by my group: most tables didn't have food on them anyway.. just drinks.. do what you will with that info. These 4 stars require context. If I am purely going off the food, it's a 2 star restaurant. Prices speak volumes and set the expectations for what's to come. The prices indicated I would be wowed. I was not. On top of that, someone in our party was served lukewarm food and it had to be sent back. Now what brings it to its third star is the location and the ambiance. It's a beautiful restaurant with a romantic, dare I say debonair, almost James Bond feel to it. Walking to our table was half the fun and I enjoyed the lookout view over the water. Any place that makes me forget where I am because the vibes are so positive is worth a visit. What brings this review to its fourth (and most deserving star) was our waiter Thomas. Thomas was kind, communicative, clear, and went above and beyond. The man had grace, poise, and quite literally rearranged an outside eating area JUST so we could get some photos from the special night. For our wedding reception, we selected Peohe's restaurant. The venue sits amongst the spectacular backdrop of San Diego's downtown skyline and harbor-bay. The subtle sounds of crashing waves heard from the large patio windows set the soothing ambiance. We worked closely to coordinate the reception details with Alisa, who was nothing short of amazing. She was very professional, personable, and attentive to our particular details. She even presented us with a wedding gift during our event. The table settings and decor we picked out was set up beautifully. It was truly picturesque. The staff executed seamlessly, working on one accord as a team, delivering the food and drinks on time throughout every course in our timeline. We were so impressed with the quality of service and food that we actually became rewards club members. Two stars for location and ambiance. The drinks at the bar were great. We had coconut shrimp, sea bass, halibut and the platter. Our food took over an hour to come out. Our platter came out with hot poke, hot/roasted dried out sushi, hot cocktail shrimp and dried out spring rolls. I think it got left under the heat lamps. They didn't charge us for the platter but I am disappointed they even served it to us the way it looked. The bass was warm but the potatoes were cold. The only meal that was good and hot was the halibut. I would never come back here. It was not worth the price and there was no wow factor. Our waters were only refilled once. I want to give them grace for being busy but it was very mediocre.
