If I could give it a zero star rating and still review then I would, because even one star is too much to rate this place!! My husband chose to surprise me as a congratulations gift with new rims and tires, so he ordered them from Rudy at Pepboys. For weeks now I have been dealing with absolutely HORRIBLE service, and even though no one will admit to it, someone from their staff threw a beverage of some sort at the front of my vehicle. I have been in contact with Bill Waters, the district area manager, that talks a big game, but I am still having issues with the store and getting rims on my vehicle. NEVER go to Pepboys!!. Lesson learned the very hard way unfortunately. And here is the long version in case someone wants to know what I have been through. Thursday Aug. 3rd I finally saw the tires and rims that my husband picked, decided I liked the A/T tires better than the H/T so I made that change, and everything I was told was good to go. I left my vehicle only to get a phone call a while later saying they only had 3 of the tires. Ok understandable, I made a change... So I went picked up my vehicle, made an appt. that would work around my already very busy schedule and left. Friday, Aug. 4th, I dropped my car off at the scheduled time 4pm. I called at 530 to check the status of the car and it was not finished. No problem. Then at 7pm I received a call that there are no lug nuts and can I leave my car over night with the promise that I would have it first thing in the morning. Ok, Fine. Left my car in the rack. Sat. aug 5th. (I had a lot of plans for that day) I called at 730 am to check the status of the car. I was told that there were not enough lug nuts and I would have to drive with 4 for each tire until they received more. I was not happy about that due to the safety of my children in my car, but fine, I need my car back since I had already been dealing with trying to get tires and rims on for a few days. 8am, I received a call saying that the rims do not fit my car and they have to take them off. So at this point I am done. I asked that my old tires and rims be put on so that I can leave and just go elsewhere. Then I was told that I HAVE to get the new tires on my old rims because they through my tires out friday night and are gone. I went back and forth with them and finally had to accept the new tires on my old rims in order to move on with my day and get my car off their rack. So I picked up my car and left. Once I got home I noticed that someone threw what looked to be a latte or frappuccino at the front of my car. On my way to the carwash I drove back to Pepboys and was told that their AC dripped rusty water on my car all night (which I know isnt true because of the direction of the splatter, the color etc.) AND even IF it was Rusty water dripping WTF!! Why would that be ok to leave my car under!!!! So I made some phone calls, got a hold of Bill waters. I really wanted to like him and trust him, but so far he has done nothing but blow smoke up my shorts! I was told that they were ordering new rims at their expense for any price difference, and I would receive a discount. Ok fine, whatever, just make this right so I can move on with my life. Finally got some different rims ordered and in. Thursday Aug. 10th I specifically requested that only the manager work on my vehicle due to the incident with crap all over my front end and I was hoping I could at least trust the manager. My husband waited during the install of the new rims. Couple hours and boom new rims on. When I first saw them, something caught my eye on the rear passenger rim, but I am so busy I didnt stop and study it. First thing friday morning, i saw the very obvious bend to my rim. So obvious there is NO way to have missed that during an install!! BUT NOTHING was said to my husband, like they hoped that we would just never notice. I wish I could share the pictures, because it is clear that the rim is bent. This may not seem like a big deal all typed out, but add in 3 kids, life and a busy schedule and it is an ordeal. I was completely disrespected several times by the staff. And lied to continuously! I should have known better when I witnessed staff getting in an argument with another customer on the first day I dropped my car off, but I thought it was maybe a difficult customer. NOPE, just the worlds worse service!!! Oh... and Mr. Waters, yep havent heard from him for a follow up, discount or even news over what they are doing with the bent rim on my car! read more

What they consider customer service is a joke! I called ahead to see how long the wait was for an oil change and I was quoted a hour to a hour and a half. When we got there the 'customer service' rep stated 2 hours, mind you the bays were empty and no cars were waiting. When we explained the previous quote we were told that we would have to wait as opposed to dropping off and picking up in order for them to honor the quote we received over the phone. I seem to always have troubles when taking my vehicles to them. My husband's vehicle had an oil leak after he took it to Pep Boys and getting them to fix what they had damaged was another horrific experience. Then tried to tell me to go back to where I bought the tires and get a refund. also told me they couldn't rotate the tires because they were too worn down and wouldn't come off easily. We were on a long road trip when all of a sudden our check tire light came on! Very stressful since we were so far from home! Because of a mixup with Google, we ended up here thinking it was a Discount Tire that would honor our warranty. Terrible just terrible, went in 2-3 weeks ago because antifreeze kept coming out of the car every other day and was wanting to overheat so I brought it here, they fixed and and tested to make sure everything is fine and they said it should run fine with no problem and today it over heated coming to work. I had to lose a day of works pay, pay for a tow truck to take it there and all for the same problem that I took it there in the first place. Avoid at all costs. Took my car in because it was overheating and asked them to run a diagnostic, they told me my water pump and thermostat needed to be replaced which they'd do for $890. That seemed like a lot to me; I live in Tulare so I had it towed back to my local mechanic who informed me it was simply out of oil- he even showed me the water pump was fine. Take your business elsewhere. I'm sure it varies by location but this Pep Boy's is one to stay away from. read more

Took my car in for a brake job and nothing but problems. Had to bring it back 3 times in a 10 day period. Still isn't fixed. Drove it in the last time and had to tow it home. Very poor service. They want 2k to replace the entire brake system for their screw up. If you plan on taking your car there for service BEWARE!!!!!!! Already talked to your Corp. several times with no help. I went for oil change and tire rotation at the rosedale highway bakersfield ca I drove out to tulare by the time i arrive there the light for low tire pressure came up i doubt if they even did the tire rotation at all I had to go to walmart to get a complimentary free air on one of the tires I usually have my tire rotation at america tires at gosford and never have any problems after a tire rotation I have been going to pep boys planz road mostly for my oil change however this particular location ( rosedale highway )is a disappointment read more

I called on 7-3-18 to make an appointment at 10500 Rosedale HWY, Bakersfield Ca. I wanted to do an oil change and the person that answered asked for my name and last name. I politely asked him the same thing and he rudely said "don't worry about it". I said pardon me and he repeated it. Then after he realized his behavior he ended up saying his name is Shawn. Very unprofessional. Needless to say I ended up not doing an appointment. Shawn clearly cost the business and business owner money. I wont go back. read more

Shaun was super chill probably the nicest autoshop dude i've met. I bought a car from a dealer and it was jacked up and Shaun took care of everything no problem. 100% am gonna keep going back there, definitely had more of a mom and pop shop feel. 10/10. read more

Okay, NOW I see why the bad reviews are so rampant. A truly staggering 180 degree turn to the dark side from my last visit. Made an appointment here for just an oil change and tire rotation. My car gets 0w 20 oil synthetic blend. Ive done it 10x and they always use a blended oil. I get there on time and they proceed to tell me the oil only comes in fully synthetic and want to charge me $20 more than other oil places. I told them "No", penzoil sells a synthetic blend. They absolutely tell me "no", it only comes in fully synthetic. Claim they've done hundreds of oil changes and know the facts. Fine, whatever, do it. And I get a tire rotation. They tell me 45 mins. So while waiting, I got on my phone and showed them the penzoil 0w 20 synthetic blend on sale and available pretty much EVERYWHERE! $20 cheaper than fully synthetic platinum blend. After about 15 minutes, the waiting area is overflowing with people. 13 people I counted. At 30 minutes, I see my car being pulled back to the front. Then I wait another 10 mins. 15 minutes.... Finally I had enough and went to the counter: "Is my car ready?" The guy feigns pathetically to not know and pretends to look for my paperwork. Really? So yeah, the car is ready and has been. WTH? Making a bunch of people stand around the waiting area because they are out of seats and not telling me my car is ready. Jerks. Wait, there's more. I'm now nervous that they did something to my car. So when I get home, i pop the hood. The oil coolant cap is off and the coolant is at basically empty. So not only did they check it (hence the cap removed), they didn't fill it, notify me or put the cap back on. I also have my suspicions they removed coolant to be vindictive. I can't prove it, but it certainly fits the fact. Coolant doesnt go from full to empty in 4500 miles without a noticeable leak. (my last oil change). I called them and wanted to speak to a manager but magically, he's on VACATION. Anyone believe that story? Me neither. I'll be following up. read more

Pep Boys was a blessing today. The bottom part of my BMW was hanging and flapping from hitting a speed bump. The young man there looked at it and was very polite, responsive and helpful. He said it would just take him a minute to fix it. He didn't charge me a dime. I wish I would have gotten his name so I could acknowledge him on YELP. This is the type of customer service that will have me and my family going there for business. Thank you so much for that. I had to drive back to San Diego tomorrow and am so glad it's repaired. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.... Arrived at Rosedale location slightly after they opened in morning. Spoke to manager and requested an oil change. Manager informed me they could not see my car at that time and recommended I go online to schedule an appointment. He then stated that if I had an appt., I would not have to worry about waiting and that my car would be seen at time of appt. I followed his advice and was able to schedule appt. for 4pm (same day). I arrived 10 min. early to appt. to find guy at front counter on phone. He remained on the phone for approx. 5-10 min without greeting, much less even acknowledging me. When he finally got off the phone, he processed my appt. info. and directed me to the waiting room. There was only one other person in waiting room. Upon my sitting down, she got up and confronted guy behind counter stating she too had an appt. and had been waiting for 3 hrs already. She stated she didn't fault the guy behind counter, however, would not be returning. The guy behind counter was not apologetic and only stated there was nothing he could do. I then approached guy behind counter and asked if my appt. was going to be honored? He stated they were backed up and it would be another hour or two before they could see my car. He then went on to say that Pep Boys views their online appts. as approximate times only for dropping cars off. THIS IS NOT MY UNDERSTANDING BASED ON EARLIER CONVERSATION WITH HIS MANAGER. This is very frustrating. I am a new customer to Pep Boys and this transaction (or lack thereof) completely jaded my view point of them. If Pep Boys has a corporate office, I would strongly recommend they take a closer look at the manager for this location. There are far TOO MANY NEGATIVE REVIEWS for this location. Whether it be poor management, the inability to hire competent or a sufficient number of employees, or to properly train/time manage, something is definitely wrong at this location. There appears to be no communication, appreciation, nor degree of care for the customer. I will NOT be back nor recommend any family, friends nor co-workers to do business at this location. In the end, I was able to take my car down the street a block or two for an oil change for same price (and no wait). Don't let Pep Boys try to reel you in with their coupons... So today I took my car to Pep Boys Auto Service & Tire on Rosedale Hwy because it had a low tire. I had been driving around that way for a couple of weeks and finally got around to getting it checked. They called me and said it had a nail in the sidewall and could not be fixed. I had purchased lifetime hazard, so I said no problem it's free. They told me I had to produce my original receipt (from 2013) before they would honor it because I bought the tires when they were Discount Tire. I found the receipt and took it in. Then he tells me that the warranty I purchased (free replacement) is not the current warranty because PepBoys only does prorated warranty. They would give me $100 credit and charge me $248 for the tire plus installation. So, since they said my tire was broken -- I said ok. I came home and told my mechanic husband the story. He immediately went down there and asked to see the tire. The nail was on the tread. They insisted it could not be fixed and had to be replaced. He called bullshit and took it across the street to Pacific Tire. $15 later, my tire is fixed and car is back home. I have used them for all 3 trucks, the Tahoe as well as the horse trailer. Don't know what's happened with other reviews here, but these guys were just great for me. Ford dealership for headlight issue (a major limitation) told us they couldn't even SEE us at any time for 5 days. Went to this Pep Boys just hoping, as I had to leave town and drive a thousand miles to see my mom who had had a stroke. Chris initially told me I'd have to leave it with them (it was 7 AM and we needed to leave immediately) but after I went back to my truck, he came out and said they'd check it right away and maybe it was just fuses. Tory was the mechanic and was pleasant and smart. He checked fuses and then determined both bulbs had burned out. Total time to fix was about 15 minutes, and he was extremely patient and nice. Chris was very nice too, and these guys took a huge load off my mind by taking the time to just take a look with 4 other vehicles to do. When businesses go out of their way to help you, they deserve business and a huge compliment. read more
