And then they quoted me an hour of labor to change the battery because, and I quote, "it's really complicated." I went across the street to O'Reilleys and bought a battery. I scheduled an alignment and an oil change online. Employees standing around doing nothing couldn't be bothered to check me in. I left my vehicle, got a call it was done, then when I went to pickup, the oil change hadn't been done. Seriously, how hard is it to follow directions? I was told "I could wait-"again- while they did it...no apologies, no concern while more employees stood around and talked some more. But I bet they know how to cash their paycheck promptly! Wow...worst service experience ever. Made an appointment for an oil change online. The girl who checked me in said 30 minutes. I walked through some other stores to kill time and came back 35 minutes later. Well, 30 minutes became an hour and 15 minutes. Price was almost $15 higher than expected because of the oil filter type on newer Toyota Camrys...? Ok whatever. As I drove away, I noticed they didn't reset the service light on my car. So I had to go back and wait for that to happen. All the while, everyone who works there acts way too busy to care about their customers. Next day, in the middle of an out of state road trip, my check engine light and traction control lights both came on. When I got home and took my car to the Toyota dealership, they told me that a part was incorrectly replaced and a tube was disconnected as a result of the last oil change. They also informed me the oil filter on the car should have been cheaper than most other filters if anything. I will give this to them: They reimbursed me for the cost of my trip to the Toyota Service Department. I was figuring they would also give me my money back for the botched overtime oil change that cost me almost $40! Never again. I learned my lesson. My next oil change will be at Toyota. read more

I don't really know why I make an appointment here. Whenever I make an appointment, I come to find that I still have to wait 3 hours to get my car serviced. The man at the desk told me that an appointment is just to get your car in line to wait to get serviced. I made an appointment at 10:30 and he told me that it wouldn't even be looked at for 2 hours. I don't really understand the logic - I don't make dinner reservations only to wait for an hour for a couple that made a reservation the same time to finish their dinner. It doesn't make sense! Luckily, the people who work in the service center are really nice, no complaint there. I definitely will not be coming back here to get my car serviced even though the people are nice and it's convenient for me - I just can't wait 3 hours whenever I need something done on my car. read more

Went here initially for a headlight bulb change in my car, which requires removing the bumper, without an appointment. I was told I'd get fit in but 15 minutes later, no one helped me so I left. I gave this Pep boys a second chance by making a 5pm appointment. I was told I'd need to leave my car overnight which I wasn't instructed prior because there was only 1 mechanic. I take my car here once and awhile and every time I get it back my car is COVERED in mud and grease on the inside. I don't know what they do but jeez. I get they're working in a garage But you can't wipe off the ten layers of mud off your boot before stepping in my car? currently trying to scrub out all the shit on my carpets. This place is as good as it gets. I had a problem with a tire and took my car in to have it checked. I was charged 15.00 for this service. I went back the next day with the same problem and the manager, Paul Hinez was fantastic. He gave me a refund, diagnosed the problem, offered the use of their phone so I could inquire about warranty options that I had on the tire(that I purchased somewhere else) and even had the technician remove the cover from my plate so I could apply my sticker. After all was said and done they even put the cover on the front plate that had been in my trunk for months. He took the time to sit down and make sure that all of my concerns were addressed and apologized for not diagnosing the problem the previous day. He even puts his personal cell on the business cards and posters and encourages customers to expres their concerns to him directly to make sure your problems are resolved ! I really love a company that takes accountability for their actions, and rectifies the situation. Pep boys does that. I highly recommend them for all your service needs. Linda S. read more

Updating ~ although someone from Pep boys wrote for me to contact them to my review and I did as she asked. No one has contacted me back. I think that was a plot to make it seems to the public that they wanted to fix the issues. Let me start by saying my first experience was good, I went in because I thought I needed a battery but I was told the battery cables were lose and the bolt for the tray the battery was on was broke. They had to order the new tray which I paid for ($140.00) but had to keep calling to see if it had came in. Finally after a week I took my vehicle back and they installed the tray. I asked for them to check my tires, I was informed the tires were 6 years old but still had good tread but think about getting some before. I found out the $140.00 dollars was mostly labor- to take the battery out and sit it on the new tray. Ok so I should have looked into this before agreeing. A couple of weeks later my check engine light comes on, I go there on a Thursday evening and was told they were real busy and to come back at 8am the next morning, which I do. They finally take my car in around 8:30am, then the wait begins. The mechanic comes out looking for the manager who's doing the front desk work but he's in the parking lot talking, finally he comes back in still talking to some customer about sum pumps to use in their homes. The manager is finally updated about my vehicle but he waits about 30 minutes before he hands it off to the help desk guy that just came in. Finally this guy talks to me around 9:45am. And tells me I need a tune up, wires, something else and new tires which is over $1200.00. I'm stunned, aren't the wires included in the tune up and just 2 weeks ago I was told my tires were good. I call a shop in LaGrange and tell Pep boys No. I pay them their $45.00 for putting it on the machine and leave. The place in LaGrange puts it on the machine and to shorten this long story I end up paying no where near $1200. And they also fixed another thing that was going to be a problem in the future. They got the 2 stars because of the first time service. read more

Brought a few cars there in the past and the manager, I can not remember his name seemed to be a staple. He was also polite and always got cars in and out as he said. Brought in a car on a weeknight. The managers name started with a "W"(never seen him before). He said he would get to the car in the morning but did warn me a few other cars were ahead of me. Needless to say I called at 10am. They had been open for about two hours. The manager said I'll call you in a couple hours, I'll have it looked at by then. No call. I called at 1pm. Manager said he was writing it up and he'd call within ten minutes. An hour went by. No call. So I called again. Manager explained the work the car needed and I said go ahead and start. The manager told me 3-4 hours. 7pm comes around on a Friday night. They close at 8pm and I hadn't heard anything. So, I called. First, it took them five minutes to find my work order after telling me there was no car under my name. Then they told me it won't be ready until the morning. So I stayed close to the pepboys on a Friday night waiting for my car. Now I have to spend my Saturday morning waiting for the car. I understand work can take longer than planned but I don't think a simple courtesy call at the 3 hour point to say the car won't be ready tonight would hurt. Now a 3-4 hour project turned into at least 6+. I'm hoping this is just a bad manager. But I don't think I'll be returning to this store ever again. read more

Coming into this location looking for wiper blades, and less than 10 seconds of walking in the associate Alejandro had the chance to help me right away. I had spoke with him about a budget I had when walking in, and still managed to show me all brands and the products at a convenient price. I appreciate the time and knowledge about the products Alejandro had, not many associate usually know what they're selling to customers. I hope he gets acknowledged for his work today, and will definitely be returning to him next time I need assistant with my vehicle. read more

Worst car repair service I've gotten. Went in for them to get my window back on track and they claimed it was the regulator that was broken even though the window still would go up and down. Told them the panel needed to come off and work to get the window on track. Took my car home and googled how to do it on my own and took less than twenty minutes. read more

My wife dropped her car off at 11:30 am the mangers said "we will have your car done by the end of the day" we called 3 times to check on the progress, and we stopped by the shop, on all 4 occasions my wife was informed the car would be done today. We called again around 5:30 and then we were informed that they don't have a technician to do brakes and the car won't be done until tomorrow. Which is horrible because I have a flight out in the am and if my wife would have known she would have immediately picked a different location. Now it's 6:12 pm and we have no other options. I am rating this a one star only because Zero is not an option. I have been taking my car to Pep boys for the better part of 5 years. They are convenient and close to the house. Well I will never take another car back again. I no longer care about the convenience factor. I took my car there for a transmission job. The first time I dropped it off they could not fine anything wrong, even though I told them which warning lights came on. I took the car back after killing a netire weekend waiting for them to advise what was wrong with my car. Took it back a few weeks later with the same check engine lights coming on and same warning light "Trans running hot" may not be that exact phrase but they should know right? Well they could not find anything yet again. Took a third time when the light came on again. this time I dropped it off and told them to keep the car until they found the problem. rented a car and was set for the long haul. after a few hours there I received a call saying they recommend going to a transmission shop as they do not do a lot of transmission work. Okay I can not fault them for that, but why in the heck did they not say that the first time. Instead they wait for the third time to tell me they do not do transmissions. To say the least I was not happy. If you are looking for a great repair shop I would suggest you try Murphy's in La Grange. I will never bring another car to any Pep boys for repairs and will not even step in to buy anything simple like wiper blades or replacement lamps. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE DEALING WITH THEM. Quite possibly the worst experience at the pep boys franchise EVER. It took over an hour for a 29 minute oil change and they tried to tell me my appointment didn't really matter (probably because he didn't look it up). What a joke. I asked him if the wait would be longer than an hour so I could come back or take the car someplace else and he told me it would go right in. for the last 45 minutes the car was going to be ready in just a moment or 5 minutes or 10 minutes. Brought the car in for road hazard warranty. Tire had a flat and I had an appt at 11 am. My friend picked me up. I then received a call at 12:40 pm saying they have to replace the tire and they have to have it shipped from another location. Should be done by 3. I call at 3 and they say still waiting on it. At 4:15 they call me and say can we do it tomorrow? I tell them no find a different tire I've now been waiting 5 hours and need the car for work tomorrow. Ended up taking another hour. Only good thing is they took money off the cost of the more expensive tire that had to be replaced. Whole thing should have been an hour tops. I won't be back to this location for work. read more

This was the worst experience of my life they quoted me over 900 dollars for repairs but all I needed was a caliper bolt my brake and rotors were in great condition and my hub bearings didn't need to be changed then after I declined the repairs all off a sudden my starter starts to go out. They over charge and could not diagnose the proper issues for my repair very unhappy and I believe they caused damage to my starter read more

Broadview.. I have had about a 90% positive results from this location. Since the early 90s I have chosen this Pep Boys over Cicero, Ogden and Melrose Park. I have dealt with many managers, Paul and his team ( Wences, Walter and Jorge (George) have been there for me and my 4 or 5 cars that come in for oil changes and routine maintenance. They have also done major work on some of my cars, with a positive result and less than dealers or local mom and pop shops. I choose Pep Boys (Broadview) because they have stood behind their warranties or quotes on all the repairs they have performed on my vehicles. Thank you. read more

Been going there for awhile, mostly for tires. They are pricier than others and service is slow, but the proximity to my house made it convenient. Never again. Replaced two tires from them a year ago with a 60,000 mile and road hazard warranty. One tire blew out on me this weekend, took it there this morning for a replacement assuming it would be covered. Dragged the tire in upon request, was told that this brand of tire (dakota infinity, their exclusive brand) was discontinued. Quoted me similar tires with same tread size. After everything, with the "warranty", my cost would be $170 for one tire, after paying $280 for two tires a year ago. Tried to get an explanation and the "service manager" could give a shit. Criminals who will never see another nickel of my money. Took the tire to a shop a mile away, replaced it for$150, all without the bullshit pep boys warranty. I wish I would have checked out the reviews before going there. Before I start my rant, to be fair the guys working the desk were nice. Now...I made an online appointment for an oil change using my Pep Boys account. I got there and noticed a Manager's Special for a bit more money, I could get a Tire Rotation, bottle of gas gunk, and a visual brake check. Turned out my engine took just a bit more than the 5 quart limit, so I got hit with a higher charge. Ok...I guess I had to live with that. 3/4 of the way through the job, the front desk guy tells me the mechanic noticed a grease leak from the boot on the front axle...just under $400 to fix that AND that there is some corrosion on my battery that for $14.99 I can get their Protection Package. (I bought the car used a few days ago, so I didn't get to look that closely at the battery knobs) I declined. The job is finished...I get a receipt that showed no detailed info on the "grease leak", no info on the padding left on the brakes (the guy explained to me Yellow is okay, Red is not)...I asked what does that mean? LOL....like I am supposed to drive on something that says Yellow or Red? Naw...give me some info like THICKNESS of pads. Or is this the new Liberal way to live? Using pictures and colors. Next, the tires had no numbers on what tread was on them. So...he said they were newer tires. Okay...what does that tell me? HOW MUCH TREAD IS THERE I needed to know. Then..he said the mechanic decided not to rotate the tires because they all had the same tread. OH...okay. Give me the managers special that is like saying you can have a bowel movement in our toilet but you can't have toilet paper unless we say so. Then, they used the least expensive oil they had instead of using the high mileage or synthetic oil my car needed. To top it off, I get my reward by being told they need my old phone number from 3 years ago because they had no record of me in their system to get the POINTS...that I can call corporate. HOLY MOLEY....I thinks me not go back to Pep Boys for ANYTHING. Well...maybe if i have to use their toilet. read more

Both were very helpful and gave me a great deal. Not only did I buy tires for the car that I had initially came in for but I bought tires for my other car as well. When I arrive they told me two hours. Had to leave and make another appointment and no free oil change. I had to pay today. When talking to the manager Luis he didn't even know about the company's expectations for service. He also didn't care about giving good service. Saying I was in the 10 percent of people who do mind having the work done on time. I think everyone values time. They broke my wife's headlight assembly trying to replace a bulb. They had to order those parts from Honda and fix it. Enough is enough. I am never going back. I am deleting my account with pep boys. I won't ever buy a bottle of wiper fluid. What a huge disappointment. I went to Pep Boys to get a new battery. The big sign in front of the store says free installation. After being told I would have to wait an hour and a half to get my battery installed, I sat and waited. After 2 hours of waiting, NOTHING had been done to my car for a 15 minute install of a battery. When I asked at the service desk, I was told that I had to continue to wait at least another 30 minutes for a bay to POSSIBLY open up !! On a regular day it would bother me, I would install my own battery, but I currently have a broken thumb. Needless to say my time is valuable, so I left and will have the battery done else where. read more

Since moving to the area from Chicago two years ago, my wife and I have been without a car service we feel is consistently reliable and trustworthy. Until now. Apart from some oil changes and two tire repairs, the need just hasn't been there, but with car "wear and tear" something is bound to come up eventually. Just this week, I had to take in our vehicle for a pronounced shaking in the front steering and wheels. For the restricted budget we're on, I hoped it was worn-out tires, but feared it could be something structural and much more expensive. Further, I have had the experience in the past where mechanics took advantage of my inexperience and practically made up problems to fix. My Pep Boys experience in Broadview could not have been more opposite. After the complimentary inspection was completed, a very patient and knowledgeable staff member named George explained in detail everything that was going on with the tire wear and its impact on the driving of the vehicle. It was a relief to hear that it wasn't more serious, but the expense was still a bite for me, especially at this time of year. What impressed me is that George did not "upsell" me on anything and, instead, gave me every scenario of repair steps such that car would be safe, but also within my schedule and budget. In a setting that could otherwise be very stressful, he helped me understand a variety of options and feel calm throughout the process. I was amazed at how friendly and accommodating the experience could be. The new tires had to be transferred from another shop, but George and the manager, Louis, made sure in a busy holiday calendar that I would be met the following morning for completion of the job. So often reviews are posted when an experience, unfortunately, occurs on the negative side. Here, it is my pleasure to commend George, Louis, and the Pep Boys organization for being so professional and accommodating to me when the expense and timing of such service could turn out badly.
