If I could a ZERO review I would! I made an appointment a week out for a company car check up with tire rotation, took time off work, arrived and told me that they could not take me. Do NOT come here. Went to this location on 09/24/22 to get TPS sensor replaced. Left with a 280 bill and an incomplete job. When they gave me my car I asked why the light was still on and asked them to reset it and was told I needed to drive it around for 20-30 min and the light would go away. Drove it on Sat and by the end of the day discovered one of my hubcaps missing. Apparently it wasn't properly installed. Did not trust them to go back went to a tire shop recommended by my sister ( I wish I'd gone here first) found out the Pep Boy technician never calibrated all 4 sensors hence why the light was still on on dashboard. The place I went to was done in 20 min versus 3 hrs waiting at Pep Boys. Lesson learned but never going back!!! read more

I guess my review isn't necessary since everyone else on here has basically already noted how miserable the service is. But maybe This will help me feel better. I took my car in to get a leak in my tire repaired, and get an oil change. They went to cash me out, and said that there was nothing wrong with the tire and they put some air in it, and that's all it needed. Next day, get in my car, and the same tire is flat. Hmm, so, clearly there's something wrong with it dude. Did you even check? Like did you take the tire off the car and dunk it to check for leaks? Because I'm betting you didn't. Especially since my oil change is supposed to come with a tire rotation, and the same damn tire in the same place is flat. Took it back, they gave me more runaround and no offer of assistance or even admitting any wrong doing. So I took the car up the road. They actually checked the tire, and there's an easily visible bolt sticking out of it. Wow, just, wow. I know it's a lot to ask to do the basic tenets of your job, but perhaps a tiny bit of caring would go a long way. Also, please, it's a pandemic, wear a mask when your inside working with customers!!! I'd give them zero stars if I could. Save yourself some frustration and go elsewhere. read more

Just awful inattentive and unfriendly customer service. Every employee there treated me as if they were annoyed by having a customer. It took them almost 2.5 hours to install a battery even with an appointment. And while the actual installation might be free, there are a number of other fees in addition to the cost of the battery. I'd recommend going elsewhere for a new battery. read more

My SUV has been towed to the 2604 N Elston location twice for "steering issues" and each time they quote a new issue. When asked why it wasn't brought to my attention in the initial evaluation, I was brushed off. A national company should honor the warranty of any work performed. read more

I had an appointment at 1 PM. I had to wait in line until 1:30. Then they told me it would be 1 hour-1.5 hours. Fine. Mike who works at the service desk is awesome, I've worked with him for years. Rashad is also a great guy but I've only worked with him once. I have been coming for years, they screw up, but they take care of all screw ups and are very honest about everything. In one case I needed a new battery, they agreed to install one for me at a fair price. While installing the battery they broke my key off in the door and reset the computer so none of my other keys worked with the car. They paid to tow the car to the dealer and paid the dealer to reset my old keys then bought me a new one to replace the broken one. Then they discounted my repair to compensate for the extra time I went without the car. I highly recommend them for tires, living in Chicago my car gets flats. Buying tires here has the benefit of a roadside hazard warranty. Now when I get flats they fix them for free or discount the cost of new tires steeply if they can't be repaired. I've tried smaller Indy shops from yelp in the past and their warranties suck! They might do a better job initially but when I had something go wrong I found pepboys where they stand behind their service. read more

Took them 2 hours to change my oil WITH AN APPOINTMENT.... 2 weeks later my check engine soon light goes on, I open the hood and see that the oil funnel is sticking out of my engine block!!!! Call; manager says to come in next day for them to change oil again and replace engine cap... set the time for 1pm, i come it 1pm, he is in a conference call. Someone else started helping me, he does not get done with his call till 1:35... still sitting waiting for my car to have it's oil changed! I brought my car in for a battery check because it had been sitting outside for a couple of weeks and I had needed to jump it prior to coming in. I just needed to know if it was the cold temps and not running for a while, or if it was time for a new battery. My issues with this location are with the blatant lack of explanation and the way they try to add extra costs for their customers in hopes they won't catch them or question them. 1) The Pep Boys website clearly says battery inspections are free. I was charged a fee for an inspection of the whole starter system when I knew my issue had nothing to do with the starter or the alternator. I had to argue to get that fee removed. The guy said nothing to me about a fee before the service and I had explained up front I had to jump the car and was only concerned about the battery. 2) They told me the cheapest battery they had was $164.99. I trusted the guy and said alright. Before getting to the store to pick up my car, I checked the website for my specific car and that specific store. Not only was that not the cheapest battery in the store for my car but it would have been 25% off had I been allowed to purchase the battery online. The last part is on me, but it's clear that these guys will do everything they can to get you to pay more than is necessary or more than you specifically ask for. 3) I was charged $9.99 for a battery protection service I didn't ask for and also was not told was being done. It's not necessary and it's not part of their battery installation service. That makes TWO fees they snuck onto my bill and of course said nothing about before or after. In the end it was $15 plus $10 that they snuck onto my bill. I can't be upset at the lack of the 25% battery discount, but being shifty and charging for things the customer didn't ask for and for things the techs say nothing about is unacceptable. I had an absolutely awful experience here two weeks ago when I took my car in to get serviced. I needed new front break pads and a battery so I set an appointment to come in, when I first got there they asked me if a certain battery and break pads were okay to use on my car and I agreed to both. It takes them an hour and a half to even look at my car and when they do they call and inform me that they don't have either of the parts they asked me about at the start. I agree to pay for the more expensive battery and to get break pads shipped from another store (which is an additional fee I was never informed about) and that they'd be here in about an hour. Two hours later they haven't called me or anything so I approach the front desk and they inform me the pads had come in a while ago but their technician was working on two cars at once so it should be ready in another half hour. So I wait and finally they call me to the front to pay, I ask if I can use two coupons at once and the man behind the counter says yes so he scans one and then he informs me he can't do two coupons and he can't remove the coupon he already scanned in the system when I asked if I could use the other coupon instead. 4 hours later I get back into my car and there is grease/oil on my steering wheel cover, floor mats, upholstery and a polaroid picture I kept on my dashboard which is something I can never replace. I call corporate and they take a formal complaint and the next day the store manager calls me and is only concerned about telling me why the coupons wouldn't work and how I got the better deal, the only thing he could say about my damaged property was "I'll tell my boys to try to be more careful." and tried to give me a free oil change as if that makes up for my damaged and irreplaceable items. Two weeks later and my breaks are STILL making grinding noises and the corporate offices have yet to reach out to try to help at all. I'm very upset and strongly recommend everyone to reconsider using this pep boys for any of your car services, they are dismissive, rude, and awful at customer service AND repairs. Got my car fixed a little under 2 weeks ago at this location. Spent over $1000 getting it fixed and it won't start now. Called to discuss a plan and they asked me to get it towed over to them so they can look at it. Also claim I may need to replace the battery even though a brand new one was just put in. In my opinion, if I just spent that much money getting the car fixed and it's now not working after so short a time, the mechanic who did the work should solve the problem without charging me again. Fix my car so that it works. Period. Needless to say I'm never going back here again. Trying to communicate with these guys is an exhausting waste of time. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I dropped off my Mercedes ML 350 this morning at 8:45am. It was showing low brake fluid and the man said it should be about $90 and take a couple of hours. Didn't hear anything for 4 hours so I called them for an update. They said they would reach back shortly with an estimate. They call me with a $2,229 estimate for an entire "broken master cylinder, all new rotors, pads, and calipers" I called my brother (who lives out of state) who is an automotive technician and he saw an unnecessary doubled $400 labor charge. Immediately then I knew I was not committing to that estimate. Went and picked it up even though they said it's unsafe to drive and took it to a autozone .5 miles away. Put $10 of brake fluid in there and guess what THE LIGHT WENT OFF AND IT DROVE JUST FINE. Had my BFs dad who is a mechanic look and it and all it needs is a replacement on the holes to the caliper. THIS PLACE IS A MAJOR RIP OFF GO LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE. Wasted my entire work day with my car sitting in their lot when anywhere else could replace those and flush brake fluid in an hour or two!! read more

I bought (and paid for) 4 tires from them (and also had several appointments to get them put on) that they did not even have and were apparently back ordered. They don't answer their phone, it just rings or they put you on hold then hang up. No one has any clue what is going on. I will be filing a claim with the BBB because no one seems to want to help or get me the tires that I paid for. This location deserves zero stars. I really wish I could give this place zero stars because truly they suck! I use to go here all the time because my car constantly needed repairs and it was near my home. They messed up multiple times then (4 years ago) - losing my keys, making mistakes on repairs, etc. Beyond horrible service. I've bought a new car since then and was debating buying tires from them, but when I was just called Gilbert was BEYOND RUDE. He had a nasty tone when I asked him question, sorry I don't know anything about tires! I'm not educated in that, hence why I'm willing to pay someone else to do it. Wow. I wish I could give this place zero stars. It was probably the worst service I've ever had. On top of that, they were trying to rob me blind. I'm not the best with cars so I try and trust others. I went there because it was close and my car was overheating. I remembered getting a battery there years ago. First off they told me it would be about 30 to 60 minutes to get someone to look at it. No problem I didn't expect anything else. I was stuck anyways since I live in the burbs. 3.5 hrs later I finally get a quote and get a huge shock. They were trying to charge me 1600 bucks for a water pump. Then they tell me I need a bunch of other parts and work done. I tell them to just give me the basic work to get my car running. They take off 100 bucks and say everything is essential. I figure they know what they are talking about and say ok. My wife asks some family that are good with cars. They think it's a ripoff. I did some research online and the job should be between 500 and 600 bucks. My wife called and tried to negotiate with them. They knocked off 500 off the top. She tried to get more and they tell her "it might be best to take your car and stop wasting our time"!! Really? You just wasted hours of my time! And then try to rip me off also. I took my car and the battery was dead. Then the engine wasn't even put back together right. I went up the street and they charged me 550. The other shops all said they hear similar stories from pep boys customers. The moral of the story is never go to this Pep Boys location. They will waste your time and money. read more

i am sorry but this is flat out wrong.. i know there is no guarantee of when a car will be done but my service was simple... repair a flat tire. I was told it would be about an hour. After 1 hour and 15 minutes i asked the status of the tire, he said it would be another 45 minutes or so. i asked if they even started and they said no.. i asked for my keys cause i wasn't waiting another hour. Customer service is going down the tubes. I know its only a $30 job and they "aint" making lots of money but it is a SERVICE that is provided. Nothing wrong with say, sir, sorry but we won't be able to start on your tire repair for another 30 minutes, are you still okay waiting? I WOULD HAVE WAITED. You just robbed me out of 2 hours for nothing and another 30 minutes i have to spend to get it fixed elsewhere. I hardly write reviews but i had to on this one. read more

I've been here a few times and I thought I was due for a review. I've been to Fletcher Audi and several other indy shops in Chicago so this review is in comparison to those experiences. If you're looking for white gloves with white glove prices go to the dealer. If you're looking to get honest work at an honest price that's what I've received at PEP Boys. On two separate occasions I brought my vehicle in with a wheel/tire issue (pot holes everywhere, right...) and while unfortunate for me they assessed the situation and found issues that required fixing even going so far to let me lay eyes on the damaged wheels. They didn't attempt to sell me some expensive parts or even charge me for the diagnosis, just a 'come back when you get the new wheels'. As someone who wrenches on my cars on occasion it's great to feel like this place is focused on fixing problems fairly and keeping customers for the long haul. Keep it up! Definitely listen to the other reviews. In what world does it take 8 hours for a service that we could get done anywhere else in a few. We had an appointment at 10 AM and we're given an estimate of 1:45. Then we were told 2 hours. By 3:30 we were fed up but still patiently waiting. We were not checked out until 6. They did not even start on our car until 4Pm. 6 hours after the original appointment. No actual urgency to help us. The only person who showed any remorse was Manny. We were charged 400$ for labor when there was only an hour and a half of work done. Ended up paying 1300 after discounts for brake pads and roters and an oil change. There was also a woman with us who came in for a simple TIRE ROTATION which she waited almost 6 hours for. There were also mechanics loudly complaining about customers outside and little communication about the status of the service. Seems like there may be childish mechanics in the shop who give the rest of the employees a hard time. There were receptionists running around in the shop and there was a large amount of time with nobody at the front desk. Customers were having to go into the garage for any help. Definite opportunities for improvement with customer service. read more

At 5:30 someone finally came and talked to me. They didn't have my part. So after waiting for almost 4 hours, after making an appointment where they took down my cars information, they didn't even do anything to my car!!!! I made an appointment at the Elston store to have a free check engine light reading. When I arrived they told me it would cost $111 to analyze my engine. I told them I was there for my check engine light, He again said it was $111. I told him that's not what the website said, so he hooked a tester to my car, said my car had a defective check engine connector, and it would cost $111 to check it. Because of pep boys lies and fraud I went else ware, got it checked, and fixed. They cheated themselves out of a repair because they tried to cheat me. read more

Unfortunately I had the displeasure of visiting this location for assistance with 1 tire to be installed on my vehicle. I called several times and asked the location an estimated time for completion and was told several times that it would be 1-1.5hrs which was not the case, as well as attempting to make an appointment so that I would have a time reserved and was told I didn't need one and that it was unnecessary. After waiting 1.5hrs I had no communication from the staff about any updates. I asked again at the 2hr mark and was given the flat response of "yours will be next when one of the other vehicles are done". I expressed my frustration to the staff and they did not seem to care that they had fallen short of what they had stated as being able to do for the service time. I would not recommend this location at all, take your business elsewhere and keep yourself from dealing with horrible service. read more

Great service and pretty affordable! I had to get new tires and this place had the price beat by most places out there. I was helped by Gilbert, this guy will go the extra mile and do what it takes to make sure his customers are satisfied. The brand name of my tire was in blue to protect the white, which I didn't know. I was a little hesitant, but Gilbert took a wash cloth and went outside and cleaned the blue off my tires. Wow! I went there 3 years ago and he remembered me, wow wow! I highly recommend and ask for Gilbert! Trust me you'll be a customer for life too! read more

I made an appointment for grease and oil change. I called to find out if they're running on time. They told me yes. Then I asked how long it would be for my service. They told me an hour to an hour and a half before they even look at my car. This is not on time, this is a waste of my time. I asked if this is typical and they said yes, they are one of the busiest shops in the city. So it seems to me the appointment times mean nothing and because they do so much business, they just don't care. I'll stick with my regular shop (not open on Sundays and not close to my home) but they have me in and out in 25 minutes. read more

The lot is full and they have 10-20 cars waiting in the queue... Five stars to the guys that work there and need to deal with a bad reservation system and just under staffed. 1 Star to corporate for not realizing how well they are doing at this location and getting them the help they obviously need. Five star to Erik the manager for being a great manager. Realize that you will have to wait 2 to 3 hours... Enjoy the coffee... Hit the wifi with whatever you need to get done, and just relax... This was the second time I was going to use them to change a headlight. The first time I did a couple of years ago, I made a reservation and then walked around. I came back an hour later and they still hadn't started but I had time to wait. Today I tried to get a headlight changed again. I made a reservation and took my car in early even. When I came back from walking around for over an hour my car hadn't been pulled in at all. No one offered a sorry or apology for the delay, so I asked for my keys and left. None of the 3 people at the service desk said anything. Definitely will not use again. I called the manager who's name is Mitchel and instead of being profesional he hung up on me when I asked for my car to be delivered to my location after they fixed the problem.
