I brought my car to this place to have the cooling system checked out. When I was done I got into my car to leave. As I began to back out of the parking space, the brake peddle went all the way to the floor. I stopped the car, checked the Break Reservoir, and to my disbelief, it was almost empty. Luckily, I had a half-full container of brake fluid in the trunk, so I filled the Brake Fluid Reservoir back up to full. When I attempted to back out again, the peddle went all the way to the floor again. I got out of my car, noticed a puddle of fresh brake fluid on the ground right where my car was parked. I also noticed a tiny trail of brake fluid leading all the way back into the Pep Boys Service Garage. I HAD NO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES OR ANYTHING ELSE PRIOR TO MY VISIT!! I went back inside the store to tell them about the issue. I also talked to the manager (I believe he said his name was Charles). He instructed Alejandro to drive my car back into the garage. About 15 minutes later, the manager took me into the Service Area to show me where the leak was coming from. Both he and Alejandro showed me rust on the brake lines and said that the leakage was due to a burst in the Break Line. They showed me the leak source and pointed out a shield that was dripping wet with brake fluid covering the damaged line. When I said I believe the line was pinched, they said that wasn't possible from where the leak was coming from. The shield would have to be removed, and there was no removal disturbance around the shield, Charles said. I saw a silver-dollar-size peephole on the bottom of the shield which gives you access to view the break line. I told him that with a hammer and long screwdriver, someone could easily tap into the line through the factory hole in the shield. Charles told me that he thinks the break line burst came as I attempted to leave out the parking lot. I asked, "How do you explain the trail of Brake Fluid from my car leading back into the Garage?" Charles said nothing. I added that you don't need to press hard on the brake pedal to back up, and the pedal went all the way to the floor. So there was no pressure in the line to cause such a burst. I also told Charles, "I wasn't going to yell and argue about the damage your mechanic did to my car like I saw other customers doing. I would post my story to the popular Social Media Forums, as I have accounts with all of them." Charles replied, "because of your mistrust, I don't feel comfortable repairing your car. I called Pep Boys (5959 S. Western Ave. Chicago, IL 60636, Store ID #0990) to make an appointment for Saturday, May 23, 2020 I wanted to have my Coolant System checked for possible leaks. I also requested that they do a suspension inspection and grease the chassis. Approximately 35 minutes later, I was told by Donnell and the mechanic who inspected my car (Alejandro O.) no problems were found and everything looked good. However, Donnell added, "We recommend you get a more in-depth inspection of the Cooling System. He said this would cost $87 I told Donnell I did not need the extra service. Alejandro then chimed in saying, "The Front Ball Joints were bad, and your tires are dry and rotting". I informed him that the Ball Joints were just replaced 5 months ago at a North Side Midas, and the tires are less than 4 years old. I said after washing my car twice a week, I spray the tires with Armor All Tire Foam. This keeps the tires clean, hydrated, and shiny. Donnell then told me that he would "ring me up" and my car would be ready in a few minutes. As I walked towards my car, I noticed two Pep Boys Mechanics standing at the Service Garage Opening watching me. I opened the trunk to get a spray disinfect and a rag to thoroughly wipe down all the interior areas the mechanic may have touched. when i bought some tires from pep boys the manager told me they can i rather next day it took three days to arrive and then i was going back-and-forth with a manager and he ordered the wrong tires and i decided to cancel them this whole thing cost me $1,500 the manager told me that my moneys gonna be arriving in a few months that was back in 5/20/21 since today i haven't gotten my money back i've been talking to corporate and every time they send me back to the manager and the manager can't tell me nothing saying it's up to corporate i don't know what to do now i've been trying to call them and haven't told me anything read more

Im definitely appalled at the custome service provided over this 3 day span. Where do I start? Well Friday, I got my car towed here via my Verizon Wirelss Roadside Assistance Plan. They suggested that I go here (%10 off) instead of my local Firestone (1.5 miles away). Not only is this place 6 miles southwest of where I live, the neighborhood is scetchy. They informed me of a 15.99 inspection blah blah (something that should be free lol) sure, ok... I CALL them the NEXT day to see what's going on, they informed me that the initial inspection blah blah (I gotta pay for another 100.00 inspection). I said I would call them back and NOT to perform the inspection til I call back. So I call back THE SAME DAY and tell them to GO FORWARD WITH THE INSPECTION. No communication for 2 days! I call back today, Im forwarded to Robert, after I was blasted from a woman in parts for not pressing 1 for service, Robert informed me that if I declined all services and that my car would be abandoned if I didn't com pick it up, as speechless and as furious as I was I called the roadside assistance again informing them of what happened. Luckily, they was able to tow my car away from these fools. The rep from roadside informed me that I would have to pay what I owed in order for them to tow it so I called back to settle my 15.99 debt. Again I spoke to Robert and he informed me that I approved the inspections and was confused as to why I was asking to settle, at that point I expressed to him my dissapointment and after that he informed me that I didn't owe anything cause " Uhhh... we didn't do nuthin' to yo car". I laughed and hung up. I hope you find humor and importance in this review, and I hope that no one will have to experience what I had to with this location. My son took his car there today to have his battery changed and according to them needed to have his terminals changed as well. He was charged $390 in total for the battery, terminals and labor. Never in my life have I ever in the 30 years I have driven cars and trucks, paid that amount of money for a battery change. My husband just had his car given a tune up there yesterday and they paid just about the same amount with maybe a $10 or $20 dollar difference. Complete rip off. I have a luxury car and have had more serious work done and the labor is just about what they charged for a freaking battery and terminal change. The Cashier had the nerve to tell me that she did not charge him the extra $76 dollars for extended time due to his terminals needing to be changed, "WHAT"!!!! I told her don't worry about it, he got hosed this time, but we will definitely not be returning! My husband needs a battery change as well and decided he will be taking his business else where! Updated 3/31/18.Dont ever bring your car here. My car has been towed back here twice since January 2018. Took it to another shop today (David's auto). Come to find out pep boys on 59th put a used battery with new battery posts instead of replacing the battery after we paid $215 for a new battery due to them saying it where the battery was located in the tire wheel well. I guess pep boys never thought I would notice or expect me to take it elsewhere for a second opinion. When the car was towed a 2nd time Pep boys spliced (an even straight edge cut) the wires on the distributor wires that lead to the battery and alternator and than tried to charge me $650+. Well the other shop showed me today of the spliced wires/used battery. Tell me how come a new brattery will not stay charged? So I drive there and one word lead to another with Brandon the asst. service manager. I asked for the store manager he said that person was out on sick leave. So when the exchange of words got heated Brandon threatened to call the police on me today after I told him what was done to my car by pep boys on 59th...I said call 12(police), cause I got b4 and after proof of what they did to the car. Low and behold now all of a sudden now the store manager appeared...she handled the situation. I showed her the b4 pictures...Yes pictures and recorded conversations do not lie. little did Brandon know the car was always serviced at the pep boys in Hodgkins and I just had the car winterized and inspected prior to having it towed on 59th and there was no issues but needed a battery. Shiesty! Pictures dont lie of a supposedly brand new battery that will not charge after sitting on a battery charger for 2 hours and still no charge! By far one of the best automotive places I have been! I had a tire blowout on a late Sunday afternoon and they were more than accommodating! The guys in the shop are extremely helpful, even taking off the cost of alignment because the car didn't need it. Others wouldn't have done it and still would charged. read more

UPDATE: [Monday 07/01/13, I try to talk with Pablo (manager assistant) but He wasn't there (Store #990). I talked with Elias Rivas (Service Manager) and He told me that Pablo left a note about my case, so both managers (Jorge or Elias) could know about my problem. Elias told me that I could take my VW Jetta on Wednesday at 8am, so his technician could check my car.] [Wednesday 07/03/13, I took my car to PepBoys at 8:30am. My wife & I talked with Elias Rivas (Service Manager). He asked us what was wrong with the car and took notes of everything that We told him. Plus, He wrote down the codes that I got from AutoZone. He took my car keys and told us, that his technician and him were going to check the car and let us know what was wrong with the VW Jetta. From early, They have a lot costumers waiting for their cars to get fix, but Elias took the time to check our car and let us know, that the first mechanic didn't a good job and that my car need more things to get fix. He told us that my VW Jetta need 2 parts plus He was going to order an extra part just in case to get the car fix. He told us that the parts were going to be ready on Friday and that He was going to call me to let me know. In others notes: Elias Rivas (Service Manager) offered us drinks and snacks all the time. He was very friendly and professional, He gave me his card with his cellular # Just in case] [Friday 07/05/13 - I got a call from Elias Rivas (Service Manager) to let me know that the parts were ready. He told me that I will need to take the car Saturday or Monday, because his technician was going to be in vacation for 2 weeks. I told him that I was going to take my car on Saturday] Final Update (I hope!) [Saturday 07/06/13 - My wife call Elias Rivas (Service Manager) at 10:51am to ask him that if was ok to take the car, and He said that was ok. I took my car at PepBoys at 12pm. At 1:30pm, Elias Rivas (Service Manager) gave me my car key and told me that He personally drove the car and the lights were gone. He told us that if We need something that We could talk with him.] ~I drove the car all day today and the car runs wonderful. Thanks to Pablo (manager assistant) , Elias Rivas (Service Manager) and Benjamin "Ben" Dodd (Master Technician) for fix my car!~ I hope that PePBoys Corporation give a big CONGRATULATIONS to these 3 primordial employees that they have in this store (#990) You need more people in your stores like them! The guy in the counter was very rude, it seemed as if he was annoyed with me coming for a part I paid for yesterday and they didn't have it in stock. I was here for 3 hours yesterday and since I came about 40 minutes before closing time it seems as if he's mentally out of the time clock and ready to go home. Took my papers from my hand and threw it on the desk in front of me and told me to hang on to it. If I gave it to him in his hand why is he throwing it the desk instead of giving it to me on my hand! All that eye rolling. If they don't like their job maybe they should do something else for living. I work hard to earn my money and I'm bringing you business at the very least be polite to the customer who brings their business to you so you can have a job. The guy from yesterday was nice and polite. The one from today asked in a very rude way what did I want! They tried, among other things, to sell him replacement parts for nearly brand new items. I only wish Yelp allowed a negative number of stars, because these clowns are running a massive deficit. I ordered a set of tires through the Pep Boys website on Tuesday. The site showed that the make and model I wanted wasn't in stock but indicated that they could be shipped to the location within one business day. I completed the order and set an appointment for 7:00 PM today (Thursday). I showed up at the scheduled time only to learn that my tires couldn't possibly be mounted and balanced before their closing time which apparently is 8:00 PM. I asked why the site allowed me to schedule a seven o'clock appointment in the first place and was simply told that, "sometimes it does that." To make the situation even more discouraging, the "tech" couldn't even find my order in the system. He offered to reschedule, and I thought I'd be gracious and accept a new appointment for Saturday. He then asked what size tires I wanted which irked me even more since the order had already been processed and should have been on record. I offered the order number from the confirmation email I received and guess what - he was able to find my tire size by walking over to another terminal and just plugging in the number I gave him! My order had apparently been processed but hadn't been honored because who the hell knows why? At this point another problem arose. They didn't have the tires in stock. The tires that I had ordered Tuesday and was promised for Thursday weren't even there and wouldn't be there for Saturday either! Upon hearing this I walked out and drove home to cancel the order. If I can't trust these knuckle dragging buffoons to honor a simple online purchase, I sure as hell am not trusting them to mount and balance tires. I should note at this point that the year is 2016, and blaming "the system" is no longer a valid excuse. The system works. All it took was confirmation that my order was in the system to know that these mouth-breathing half-wits were either too stupid or too lazy to actually fulfill it. If I was a betting man I'd wager that they're a healthy dose of both. read more

Had my brakes inspected here. Service was quick as far as brake service goes. Price was fair and will go back again. Customer service was excellent, many thanks to George who did the labor and also to Jimmy for being patient with a girl who knew nothing about brakes and big ups to Carlos who located a iPhone charger to use as I waited. I am very disappointed in this PepBoys. I brought four brand new Michelin tires from the Pep Boys in Skokie, IL, great service. I also had my tires rotated from the Skokie location less than one month ago.l Had an issue with my right passenger tire losing air, brought it into this Pep Boys because I was told by Skokie it will be okay to come to any Pep Boys. This was the closest Pep Boys to my job. Needless to say total disappointment!I I was informed when I arrived on Saturday that my tire had a nail in it, and I would need a new tire. Because my tire was still under warranty I was able to pay a prorated amount for a new tire due to the my tire been under warranty. However I came back here on Friday of the next week to get my new tire that was ordered and, At that time the tire was placed on my car but, they placed it on my rim from the spare tire. They threw out my spare tire and put the new tire on the spare rim. I know this sound crazy. I was told my car was ready to be picked up; came back and got my car, drove literally across the street where my job is and parked my car. After, getting off work the new tire was reading at a 23 PSI. I brought my car right back to Pep Boys and was told that they needed to put air in it and that I would need to wait. Then, when I picked my car back up I was told that my rim was bent and I would need to fix the rim. Mind you, on Saturday I was only told that I had a nail in my tire and it could not be fixed. Then the manager came out (Brandon )and explained to me that they had made a mistake and put my new tire on my spare rim and threw out my spare tire which, was new and never used. The manager informed me he would give me a cheap tire used tire to put on my rim that was bent, which was actually my spare rim. A total complete mess! They never put my new tire on the rim That was supposed to be on my car in the first place, that was not bent. I asked him not to touch my tires I wanted to have my husband come and represent me and tell me what was going on because I didn't know what tire was comprable to my Michelin tire. I was not going to accept him putting a used tire on my car also I wanted to know how my rim got bent in the first place. The manager Brandon begin to tell me that I should not be in the back where they're fixing on tires, However, before I agreed not to have him fix my car I was fine being back there. He went on to call the police on me, and tell the police lies, that I was being belligerent with him and and screaming and cursing at him. I have never been treated with such disrespect at any establishment in such a way as I was treated at this Pep Boys. Not to mention earlier this week I actually recommended the doctor I work with to have his tires purchase at this place and he was also told his Rim was bent . I did not think anything of it at the time but now I know that it could be something Shady going on as my rim was also bent . This will be my last time purchasing anything from Pep Boys. I will definitely be going to my dealership( Lexus) next time. The end result was me going to the police station filing a civil complaint. The manager finally agree to give me a tire comprable to my Michelin tire however refuse to offer any type of assistance with my rim that was bent. I will be following up with their corporate office. I asked the manager what the corporate office number was he told me it was 1 800 Pep Boys. How is that for customer service? read more

I had a great experience with this location. It started off pretty rocky because the services that I paid for didn't get completed. They took responsibility for it and made sure that they fixed the problem. One of the techs even stayed after his tour of duty while he had a tooth ache to fix my car. And the manager was "amazing" he takes his job very serious and you don't meet many people that truly enjoy what they do and their number one priority is to satisfy the customer. I am very grateful to have had that experience because I know that people still have integrity. I would definitely recommend this location because they will get the job done. read more

I unfortunately choosed to have their service to fix my newer good brand flat tire first time. They took my tire in the shop and made me wait for about 3 hours. Usually they made you sign the work request before they performe the work but it was not the case this time. 3 hours later they brought back my tire I thought they were busy but I could see 4-5 staff mebers and shop mechanics in the store socializing for hours. Tire was messy when they returned so I aksed what did they do and they said they plugged the puncture ( right way to fix the flat tire is to patch it from inside). I came home not aware of there work. Next day I found no air in the tire. I brough back my tire to the store. There were not happy to take it back to fix it but they took it inside the shop and took almost 45 min before they called me to show me the different place it is leaking. I already checked the tire before I went to the store so I am sure that they must have fixed the old puncure and poke a nail on the side of the tire so it can not be repairable anymore. Pep boys is a fraud and specifically 5959 S Western Ave Chciago IL sore location. I would not recommend that to anybody and encourage everybody to file compaint in consumer protection agency about their bad experience. Never go to Pep boys. They rip the customers off. read more

Not sure quite where to start because the whole experience was surreal. Had recently had work done and the results were pretty good so I decided to take me wife's car there for a broken tie rod. The completed the work but 2 days later my wife had problems steering which we thought was related to the recent work. Well, they had the car for 3 days and initially told me that it was for a broken axle (the manager on duty basically call my wife a liar when he demanded that she had run over something, which she denied), the next day I was told that the axle was fine, but that the struts needed to be completely replaced. The next day I was told that only the mounting for the struts needed to be replaced. Finally, I was told that they weren't sure what the problem was and that they were sending to another Pep Boys for evaluation. Turns out that the rack and pinion steering needed to be replaced (VERY EXPENSIVE!) Three days, extra miles on my car, wasted gas, countless wrong evaluations and all that I was given for all of this was a free tow!!! Never again Pep Boys! Never again. read more
