What happened to Kelly and Armando? The manager in the store is suddenly a guy named Daniel and this wonderful neighborhood store that was such a safe place for women to go with trust is now awful for women. He argued with me in front of other customers trying to charge me way more than I have ever been charged before and he made comments like "that's why they are on leave".... which was entirely unnecessary. To disparage the loyal and long time managers Kelly and Armando which he repeatedly did is so disrespectful! The place isn't the same. I called and got the District Manager, told him everything! He says Kelly and Armando are not "gone forever", but who can be "on leave" for over two months now and still be available to come back? Everyone has bills to pay and I'm sure they have to find some other way to earn a living.. SO SAD!,, SO UPSET! This was a very special place! Not anymore. Came here to get a battery replacement on my Audi Q7 -- and if you know, the battery is tucked under the driver's seat (crazy spot, right?). It turned into a bit of a hassle because some bolts were damaged during a previous dealer install, which I didn't notice until I opened it up myself. I brought my car into this Pep Boys location in a bit of a panic--my tire was barely hanging on and most shops were already closing up as it was Friday evening. Im so thankful I stumbled upon this location where the manager Kelly didn't hesitate to help me right away, and the technician Nacho got started on my tire immediately. They were honest, kind, and incredibly efficient. Nacho inspected my tire and pulled out the blade that caused the flat, showed me the damage, and turns out it was 100% patchable!! Came in for just a tire rotation since my car doesn't requireother maintenance. Visited a couple other places, but encountered significant wait times and staff that didn't really seem to care to service my car because they were too busy. Asked them if I could return later with an appointment, and I was advised they didn't take appointments. So I would just have to wait...?! I then proceeded to look online for tire shops nearby and discovered that pep boys also did tire rotations for less than half the cost of the tire shop I had just visited. I scheduled a last minute same day appointment and brought my car in. I was greeted by Armando the Service Manager, and he assisted me right away. Even with other customers, Armando and his team got started on my car, and I was out in less than half an hour. Upon completion, i went to go up to pay, but Armando didn't even charge me for the service! It was my first time at a Pep boys for any type of car service and had never purchased tires here before either, so of course wasn't expecting a complimentary service and I was pleasantly surprised. Best best time to buy tires is their Black Friday sale and when you buy tires, you get tire insurance too so if you have a low tire warning light they will check it for leaks and fix it when it can be repaired which is most of the time, at no cost to you. They also rotate for you too! If there is a repair you need that is over their mechanics capability, they tell you up front so you can go to a place that is better suited for it. Kelly has the worst attitude and customer service I have experienced in a long time. Arrived at 6:20 for a 6:30 appointment and he refused to fix a flat tire, mind you they close at 7. Thankfully, Winston said he would help me. Winston went above and beyond and was great. I am a fleet customer, come here monthly for maintenance and service, and Kelly said he didn't care and doesn't know why they let reservations be made with 40 mins until closing. It would really be nice if ALL businesses could operate like this Pep Boys on Newport Blvd. I originally was shopping around for a new battery since Fletcher Jones told me it would be $700 or more for a simple battery. When I first called and spoke to Kelly who runs the store, I liked him right off the bat. His honesty and not trying to up sell me like the other Pep Boys was trying to do was refreshing. When I arrived to check on my battery to see if I really needed one or not, the place was very busy with people waiting behind me. Kelly stopped what he was doing and went and checked on my battery. He said it still had life and if it's not broke then don't fix it. I then asked him how much he charged for run flat tires since I knew I needed a few. Kelly gave me a few bucks cheaper than my other place so now I'm officially sold to start doing business here. I took my car in yesterday for two new tires and decided to get a new battery anyways. I met Armando who also works with Kelly and let me tell you this place has definitely earned my business for the years to come. When I was done Armando told me to come back in 5000 miles to rotate my tires. Thats the first time anyone has offered to do that. When I had thanked Kelly for being a straightshooter, his reply was that he has to be, because it doesn't get him anywhere if he isn't. My husband had his car battery replaced at the Pep Boys in Costa Mesa on February 2025 for $232. Less than 5 months later in June the battery died on him, and he had to get roadside service to jump start the car. After driving the car to work, the car died on him again. He took his car to the Porsche dealership and the technician told him the battery was defective because they charged the car 3 times and each time the battery was not retaining the charges. Basically, Pep Boys sold us a defective battery and now we are out the money for the battery plus the money the car dealership charged us for the car inspection. read more

I made an apt. and went there the day before because I'd not been to this location. Needing some electrical work, I spoke with them and was told the guy was only there M-F not on weekends. I dropped off my car and the keys at 6:00 am in the drop box and took an u er to work. At 1:00 I hadn't heard from them, called and left a message. By 2:00 I still hadn't heard back and called again. Their response was WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO? Really? I went there and spoke with your office and the guy put it in the system! I even made an apt. Online and indicated the Left Rear Light Malfunction socket and bulb needs testing or replacing! Basically my car sat there all damn day an no one touched it, no one called, no one did a damn thing. Then he proceeded to talk on the phone for over 10 minutes to a customer, putting down the phone twice to walk by us into the car bay to speak to someone while never once acknowledging us. Finally after over 20 minutes of waiting asked us what we needed and we responded wiper blades and then he looked over at his full rack of wiper blades and proceeded to tell us to go to Auto Zone because the prices were better!! My tire pressure sensor light had been on for the past few days despite adding air to all tires to match the standard PSI, so I booked an appointment through their website and was able to bring my car in the day after. Gilbert, the service manager who was working at the time, was super patient throughout the entire procedure. He and the mechanic, Juan, immediately began working on inspecting the tires as well as the brakes, which I've raised concerns about the infrequent high pitch noise. There's an indoor waiting area where I was able to sit and wait. After about 10 minutes, Gilbert came back and kindly explained what was causing the sensor light to remain on. He gave me the option to either ignore the light as the tires themselves were fine or have one of the tire pressure sensors replaced. I went ahead with the latter, and it took them only about 15 minutes to get the procedure done. Overall, very quick service and good customer service. Prices are reasonable for how efficiently they were able to solve the problem. It only took me an hour to leave home and back with car repair. Would definitely recommend! read more

Because the folks in the service department are so friendly and courteous! This is why too, I rated them a 5-star rating because of that and the quality of work they do! I just had my car repaired on Monday 7/19/21 at that particular location and I'm quite happy about the great job Randy has done. Got a new serpentine belt A.K.A. an alternator belt along with new spark plugs, a new water pump, new air filter and air filter cabin, a new radiator reservoir; radiator coolant, and I'm thankful for having replacements done to my car. The Pep Boys company has been around a long time but I just recently had the opportunity to check them out for myself, and I'm so glad I did! My "MAINT" light had been flashing intermittently, and by the time I found out that the light refers to "oil" maintenance, I felt that I needed to find somewhere to service the car immediately and decided to pull into the very first place I came across, which happened to be Pep Boys on Newport Blvd. Kelly, the service manager on duty, was super helpful and gave me info on the full range of options available, yet at no time did I feel like he was trying to upsell me. I opted to go with the high mileage oil and he directed me to their website for a $15 coupon, which saved me the cost of the upgrade. It kind of seemed like the service might have taken a little longer than a standard oil change usually does but in the end I feel like the mechanic that did the work was very very thorough, and service included free tire rotation. Also, there is a very nice air conditioned waiting area with comfortable seating, TV, wifi, a clean bathroom, cool artwork, coffee, tea, filtered water, and a soda pop vending machine, so the wait was very pleasant and well worth it. This location stays open later than a lot of other shops, which is also a huge plus. It's clear that this shop is well managed and everyone that I interacted with was truly top notch. I ordered tires from Amazon and was given the option to have them sent to this location for installation. I rescheduled my first appointment the same day because of scheduling issues. There was zero hassle about that I took care of it online. When I got there I was given an estimate of an hr to an hr and a half. I was 30 minutes early so that was fine. I also asked to see if he could check if I needed an alignment or not and I mentioned I hadn't noticed any pulling in one direction or the other. The guy said that doesn't really mean anything and they would check it out. They finished right when they were supposed to and I didn't need that alignment after all. That saved me $100 and showed me they're honest and don't try to take advantage of unknowing customers. I appreciate that immensely. I also heard them being upfront and honest with other customers in the shop. I would recommend this place to family and friends. read more
