11/2/2024 2992 Forest Lane Dallas, TX Location I requested an oil change, transmission fluid exchange and ABS sensor. I was told to come back the following weekend for the ABS sensor and transmission service because this mechanic was on vacation. Hence, I only received the oil change. I never recived any update nor asked to approve any other service(s). To my SURPRISE, I was told my bill was $222. I asked for what????? A TPMS sensor (that I never requested nor approved). I stood at the bay door the entire time. The ONLY service that was performed was an oil change. I have since filed a complaint with Pep Boys head office and a dispute with my bank. I visited the Pep Boys on Galloway Road in Mesquite Texas. Worst customer service that you could ever receive from an auto repair shop. The manager there very very childish and immature made me wait. Three hours to tell me that the repairs is gonna take several days, made no attempt to communicate with me. He got upset with me because I didn't understand the procedure and said I came there trying to control things and then cursed at me. Just completed a state inspection at this location and they wanted to fail me for a missing bolt on the license plate (the bolt was not missing it needed to be screwed in) and a wiper blade. They wanted to charge $19.95 for replacing the bolt that was not missing. I understand the wiper blade but not the license plate. Be careful with these people they are not honest. I am not recommending this place for state inspection. Be honest with your customers!! read more

I went in for an oil change. Didn't think to ask how much it would be in advance. It was $113, roughly half of what Take 5 quotes for the same vehicle. It took them at least an hour, whereas Take 5 has never taken more than 15 minutes, usually more like 5. When I checked out, the cashier said "there you go" as she handed me my keys, instead of "thank you." It was obvious that she was in training, but who doesn't know to thank the customer? I won't be going back soon, and next time I will get an estimate up front. Also, the lobby has very few chairs, so if they're really busy, there could be nowhere to sit. Biggest waste of time. Don't make an appointment, because that does nothing for you and won't make it faster. It shouldn't take 2 1/2 + hours to do the work they do. Most of them are on their phones, talking, eating or playing around while they have a full bay of cars. Bathroom was locked for customers waiting. Kevin Perez I came into pep boys a week ago for a routine oil and tire replacement. 2,000 dollars worth of external damage was done to my car, and Randolph, the service manager at the store off forest lane in Dallas, said the damage was already there. Even though he acknowledged that on video the car door worked perfect the whole time it was there. To make things even better nobody told me there was damage to my door, I found out when I tried to open it. Randolph also left me standing there for two hours without an apology. So now since he lied through his teeth to me about damage done to my car I get to enjoy another week of crawling in through my passenger door until the area manager can look at the camera. Incompetent and lazy is being kind. Long story but traveling with our dually and rv and 3 brand new tires went flat in 3 days. After buying 6 new tires at at bossier city la pep boys, turns out they installed old stem on brand new tires hence 3 flat tires leaking from the stems. This was confirmed by 2 other tire shops as we crossed Texas on leaking tires. Thankfully we kept stopping and checking the tires after the first one. After the 3rd flat tire we stopped in Dallas on our way home to get the tires redone at pep boys and to replace 1. I had to call around and was told This location said they had the tire and steel stems we were looking to get prorated and done. Said it would take an hour to get in. And an hour to fix. 3 hours of sitting in the parking lot with 2 small children in an rv they still hadn't taken the truck back. We checked 4 different times and they kept saying they were taking it back. And in hour 3, said let me check that we have those stems. To say this was beyond ridiculous is an understatement. We left. The fact that this shop was full of employees who could care less especially when they knew the circumstances. Run. Run far away. Not only from this location, but from this company. The Bossier city location knowingly put bad stems on brand new tires know it was towing a 37' toy hauler. I hate to think what would have happened had one ripped apart while we were driving. Had my car towed to Pep Boys not too long ago cause I was afraid to drive it. The service engine light now came on and car started shaking and losing power one day when I was out running errands. It was towed to Pep Boys. My car is about 9 years old but only has 37,000 miles on it. I was surprised to have a problem with so few miles. Little did I know that there was a recall on a throttle for my car which is what Pep Boys replaced. They did not tell me about the recall but I have no doubt they knew about it. $800 later, I was on my way, none the wiser. Just the other day, I got an oil change and state inspection and they listed recalls for my car and the throttle was one of them. Called the dealership and they said the throttle was under warranty for any car 10 years old or less and less than 150,000. They said that Pep Boys should have told us about it. I noticed on the receipt from when I had the repair done there that they put my mileage at 193,000. They did that on purpose to make it appear my car was not eligible for the recall. Pep Boys deny this, Of course. Veronica says the wrong mileage was an accident. There is a big difference between 37,000 and 193,000 miles and my car looks new. I won't go back there. They are not honest! They could have charged me for the tow and the analysis and sent us on the way, but they got greedy. I would not even give them one star! Great for checking your engine codes and quick replacement/issues. I bought new windshield wipers online, because they had a website promotion, for in-store pick-up. The only issue was that I NEVER got an email confirming the order ready for pick-up. After a couple days, I called and they said it was ready. I went by that evening and got my wiper blades. I asked the cashier, who was a manager, if the shop would replace them for me, but he said he'd do it himself because there was a wait! He came out to my car, changed the first blade while explaining to me how to replace it, and watched me do the second one so I'd know in the future. I had To ask about my car that was still stirring outside and they proceeded to go find the paperwork and then take my car back. Told me it would be another twenty to thirty minutes. Pep Boys installed a battery in my van at the end of 2019, and the battery has gone dead, long before the warranty expires. Finding a Pep Boys store that had an identical replacement battery was frustrating and time consuming. I finally found the Forest Lane store had my battery and they did a fast enough job of replacing it, even though they were swamped with work when I got there. I was especially impressed with the young man who rang up the transaction. There was actually a 3 or 4 dollar fee involved and this young man paid that for me, right out of his own pocket. I expect if he wants to stay at Pep boys; he will be managing one of their stores some day. I hope that management appreciates the asset this guy is to their store. How the concept of customer service is completely lost on some people just baffels me. I picked up a rental from this location two weeks ago. Here's some warnings for others considering this location: 1. The car was filthy inside and out. The brash guy behind the counter (Ricky) said it's not their responsibility to clean the cars. 2. The dashboard of the car said "maintenance required." As I would be driving this car for Lyft, I asked the same guy (Ricky) if this could be addressed. I didn't want any riders fearing they were in a malfunctioning vehicle. He said we won't fix that, but you can take it to Exon and tell them to turn off the light. Great solution! 3. Two weeks later, I came back to ask the Lyft representative some questions. She had just stepped out for lunch and one of the guys behind the counter said she usually comes back in 30 min. I politely asked if they could contact her on a cell to ensure she would be back in 30 min. The same brash guy from before stepped in and said (with a very demeaning tone), "look, she's entitled to an hour" completely disregarding any concern for my situation. I think these guys actually work for Hertz, but I can promise you I won't be purchasing anything from this Pep Boys. read more

A man named Chris who wants to believe that he's a good manager , is rude as hell and passive aggressive. Literally this man was storming around and had a bad attitude. During a routine oil change , they managed to melt my Honda brake light and claimed that they've never seen an occurrence like it. They did honor to replace it ( as I would expect nothing less ). When I came back to have my light replaced , once again I had the pleasure of talking with lovely Chris. I waited and allowed the brake light to be replaced. I then complained because the brake light was replaced , but the adhesive foam on the brake light was still on and it was not put on seamlessly. I had to wait another 15 minutes while Chris fixed the kindergartener's work who didn't take the foam off. All the while Chris was rude complaining about 50 degree weather. I will NEVER bring my car here again. You might as well pay a little more and get some real service.i was upset enough that I was inconvenienced and had to bring my car back , but the cherry on the top was Chris' attitude. He should stay in the back where he doesn't have to deal with customers because he is unable to act professional and will probably throw a tantrum like a 2 year old like he did with me. read more

Let me preface in saying that I have been taking my two cars to this Pep Boys location for over 4 years. They have always worked with me and have been very professional. However, I brought my vehicle in to be serviced about a month ago (nothing big, just a state inspection and an oil change) and they broke the cable and latch that allowed the hood to be popped open using the lever inside the vehicle. Since they broke the part (and given that it is a $30 part), I kind of expected them to replace it for free. The tech at the time even told me that they would replace it for free and he told me he would call me when the part was in and I could come get it fixed. So, it had been a month and I hadn't received any calls or texts. No big deal, I just went in again and see if they could fix a tire (which I had bought at this pep boys) for me and replace the cable and latch that they broke. JJ said he would need to call the tech that said this and get the whole story, unfortunately, the tech's story had now changed saying that it wasn't his fault he broke the part. So, JJ came back and told me that they would charge me for the part and not for the Labor. Which to me, seemed like I was getting taken advantage of. Let me be clear, everyone(including JJ) treated me well in this location. I'm not one to be argumentative. However, because I feel like I was taken advantage of I will be taking my two vehicles elsewhere and probably paying double what I would have out of principle. It just seems like a lot of business to lose over a $30 + labor part that they decided they weren't going to replace. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I took my car in over the summer because my right front tire was smoking and I was right in front of their store. I was told I needed new brakes in the front and back, new calipers, new rotors, new ABS sensor, brake fluid exchange and several other services - all to the tune of nearly $1000.00 after refusing to agree to those services, I asked what the bare minimum was, I ended up paying $245 not including the parts I bought from their store. . . WHICH THEY WOULDN'T WARRANTY OR GUARANTEE. I left that night, drove the 5 miles home, only to discover the tire was STILL smoking. I took it back in the morning, spoke with a manager who apologized, fixed the problem and then charged me $50 to fix their initial mistake. I went to a trusted mechanic to see what he would charge me to repair the rest of the car and (big surprise) he said only the front brakes needed to be replaced. That's it. Pep Boys is a scam. Came in for an oil change, tire rotation, alignment, and replace a HID headlight. The alignment machine was not working, and they noticed my brakes lights were not working. 2 hours later everything was complete. One of the guys in the front had to come help with the HID light since it costs a lot of money. But I was satisfied with the job at hand. Could have been a little quicker, but ok with time. I should have been offered a discount since the alignment couldn't be done. I maintain several vehicles for my family and have made many parts purchases at this store - mostly batteries but tools, oil, and filters. I have always had great experience here and have been a customer since this store opened. My RV uses two deep cycle batteries for the coach appliances. I have tried cheap ones but they don't last. The last ones made it 5 years, but I could not find them again so I decided to go with Optima Blue Tops. Pep Boys had what I wanted on their web side but not the size I needed in the store. I tried to order the batteries on-line and have them delivered to the store but the web site was not listing inventory correctly. I called Josephine at the store to see how I could get the web site promotion discount. She checked and could have the ones I wanted in a few days. Just a couple of days later, Josephine called letting me know the batteries were in. She helped me get the web price and walked me through the whole process coordinating installation with the service department. I felt like I had my own personal shopper helping me. These guys are every 20th century cliche about mechanics that you see cartoons about. I think the garage on this place survives because DTW is closed on Sundays. If you go there, here are a few things to be prepared for: 1. You are going to need to negotiate on an adversarial basis, like on a used car lot. They're going to offer to install a new tire for $50 (on top of the cost of the tire, naturally) per tire. You'll laugh in their face (as we did), and then you'll bid each other to $12 per tire over the course of 4 minutes. I got no problem negotiating adversarially, but in $120 increments? Not a fan. 2. Write down every. single. thing. they say. You want an identical tire? They'll say they have it. They probably don't. They have something similar, and will be hoping you either don't notice, or won't call them out. My girlfriend's car was 2 months old and had damage to a single tire, and she wanted an identical replacement. Reasonable. They said they had it, but they didn't. So there was a confrontation at the end, and now she has to go back after they "order" it. In fairness, the tire they tried to pass off was not a piece of crap - but it wasn't what they said it was, or what she asked for and confirmed. 3. In short, they are NOT frauds, but they ARE old-timey bullshitters. If you're comfortable aggressively managing every last detail, they're fine. If you don't want the hassle, just wait until Monday and go to DTW. read more

Worst experience ever. Wrong diagnosis by the technician (Claudio), rude and incompetent staff (Chad being the worst, Neal and Ignacio), severe lack of communication among themselves causing me to explain over and again the issue i brought my car in for has caused me nightmare and a lot of money ($548). After paying the bills and finding out that the issue still existed, I called the day after and Chad says why didn't i call earlier. Aren't you guys supposed to do your job ? Anyways, I bring my car in the next day and that evening, I am told that they cannot diagnose the issue and have me come back to their location to replicate the problem which I did. After several back and forth trips ((Had to make 4 trips in total over 7 days!!!!) and change of technicians and lack of communication, I gave up on them. I have been using Pepboys for the last 5 years and this location is the worst of them all! I would stay away from them and hope the management looks into these kind of issues. read more

While I was waiting to be seen by a different associate Chad the manager was loudly arguing with another associate (after 5 or 6 minutes I figured out they were playing) and from there started talking to another employee about why he didn't bring him back drugs from Mexico. Specifically OxyContin....and then continued to carry on another 5 minutes about him needing good drugs!!! But you're at you're JOB and working should prolly be the focus.
