This is your warning to avoid this shop at all costs! Below is a detailed account of my experience: Initial Issue: I noticed an oil leak from the front end of my car and scheduled a fluid leak evaluation which cost $29. Evaluation and Quote: During the evaluation they claimed that the valve cover gasket was the source of the leak. I was quoted $426.79 over the phone for the replacement (which I later found out included an undisclosed extended warranty fee) Repair and Continued Issue: I agreed to proceed with the repair. Alex, the manager, confirmed that the repair was complete and that the car was no longer leaking. However, within 2 hours of driving home, I noticed that the car was still leaking from the exact same spot. Second Visit: I returned to the store and spoke with Alex again. He looked under the car and said he didn't see any leak and suggested that the leak might not be oil but another fluid (it was absolutely oil). Alex asked me to place paper under the car and return with it the following morning. Follow-Up Inspection: I returned with the oil-stained paper, which I showed to Ralph, an associate at the counter. Ralph looked under the car and (confirmed) that there was indeed an oil leak on the bottom of the engine. He stated that the Forest Park location is not equipped to handle this type of leak, as it requires removing the transmission. Ralph had no explanation for why the leak was missed during the initial evaluation. Concerns: The fluid leak inspection was inaccurate. I proceeded with the repair based on incorrect information provided by Alex. Additionally, there was no indication that dye was used to assist in the inspection, yet I was charged $5.99 for oil dye (isn't this fraud?) I went to another repair shop and they performed a "real" leak inspection which confirmed the true source of the leak. I am dissatisfied with the service provided by Pep Boys and they've yet to respond to my request for them to honor their 100% satisfaction guarantee. Go somewhere else! read more

I visited this location to get all tires changed on my car. Ralph was extremely helpful in helping me pick the best tires for my vehicle given my budget. I'm always leary of going to any place related to car mechanical work or replacements so it's always a huge relief when I find someone who is trustworthy. Only downside to Pepboys is they didn't have enough seating for people waiting on their cars and they didn't have wipes so I could wipe down my steering wheel when it was returned (Midas did this for me so maybe I was just lucky). There's plenty of shops next door that you can walk around in while waiting for your car and this proved to be very useful for me. Good Pep Boys location. read more

The manager Alex is a really nice guy, kept me in the loop about potential issues with my car. They had my car ready to go within a couple of hours. They were working through a situation where there was some rain coming through but that didn't stop them providing excellent service. Super nice guys, good pricing and great communication. Very expensive, and deceitful coupons. Coupon was for a reduction in cost of "oil change service", which doesn't include oil so didn't reduce cost much at all. Very confusing, and the place next door has the same service for less without a coupon. Also, they didn't even reset my "oil change needed" light. Absolutely do not go here!!! This is a warning. Classic bait and switch even after I told the manager Alex if there are any price changes do not proceed with work call me. Well the quoted price was not honored. I was not informed of the change in price either. The associate told me I either pay the higher price or leave my car. I have been going to this location for years, but recently I have been very disappointed with the staff and service and in particular the manager Alex. I remember him not being helpful in the past, but I still kept going. However, after my experience today trying to get an oil change, and with him not being helpful at all, I've decided I won't be using their services anymore. Plus I think I was being overcharged anyway. Jiffy Lube might cost more, but at least the customer service is great and to me that is what really matters. read more

I came in as a walk in for an oil change which they let me know that they was a little backed up with other vehicles. He still took my car. I did a little shopping at whole food he called me to inform me that my air filter need to be changed an is that something I will like them to change. They also printed out me quotes on my tires saying that that's something I will have to look forward to towards the winter. Which was a plus on my end. I can't complain about the wait time because I didn't make an appointment. read more

*Pep Boys Gaslighting Experience* August 17, 2021 Pep Boys: 25 S. Harlem; Forest Park, IL. My car was serviced to have the front and back brakes replaced (i.e. pads, rotors etc) for a quoted price by manager Alex D. Of $901.61. Despite being taken a back by the significant cost, my decent history with Pep Boys, location convenience, made me comfortable to grant authorization for the work to begin. Unfortunately, 10 minutes after picking my car up and driving it off the lot, heard by my parent and I was a loud crunch sound when the brakes were applied. Immediately, I returned to Pep Boys and informed Alex (I.E. Manager) and Moe (I.E. Mechanic) about the dilemma. Moe responded, "The noise will go away. The oil needs to circulate. I smell the oil now." Believing his explanation, my mother and I left informing both men that we would return should the noise continue. I returned on 8-20-2021, a mere 3 days later to report the same issue. This time Moe informed me that the noise would end "after driving 500 miles and/or essentially breaking in the pads." The afternoon of 8-21-2021, I applied the brakes an heard a louder escalated noise! Again, I returned to Pep Boys the same day, test drove the car with Moe who upon hearing the noise responded, "Whoa!!!! Wow! Sounds like it could be coming from the back brakes." Moe proceeded to drive my car to the back of Pep Boys, returned, hoisted the car on the lift (i.e. 10-15min), Manager; Alex D. drove my car, returned, looked at me and stated, "I don't hear anything." How interesting that a customer and your own employee's intelligence and 10-15 minutes later would be insulted, GASLIGHTED and reduced to, "I don't hear anything." My how a few minutes makes a difference instead of taking accountability that an issue actually existed! Not once did Moe or anyone tell me what caused the noise and what could be done to eliminate it. Resulting, in my now still dealing with a noise that is ongoing and has yet to be addressed. SHAME on you Alex and Moe!! I hope someone you love doesn't need her car for work, to DAILY travel up to an hour from one end of town to the next providing therapeutic services during these Covid Times. Nor do I hope your love one would have to engage with the both of you who lie, apply unnecessary distress and inconvenience, instead of simply addressing a customer's concern with integrity and honesty in the first place!! #neverreturningtopepboys #untrustworthy ***8/24/21 UPDATE: 2nd car opinion received. City Life can be tough, especially for tires. Tire shops have become commonplace in my daily life. Today, my air pressure light was on for the second time in a week, leading me to have it checked out. The gentleman here were quickly shared the wait time to have it checked out was about an hour. Once it was ready, a text was sent informing me the vehicle was ready. The experience was great and only set me back $22. I was also given a rewards card which gives me $10 off the next tire repair. Bought four tires on the Pep Boys website. $128 instalation fee was supposed to be waived as part of a promotion. Had my son bring the car into the Forest Park location to have the tires installed. They charged him the instalation fee. I went in today to get the refund. They made it seem like it was a big hassle for them to refund me the $128, I think they took advantage of the situation and never apologized to me for their mistake. read more

This is my 3rd visit to this Pepboys location over a span of 3-4 years. Each time, there's always an issue. The manager at this store seems to have a habit of sending customers of any warranty concerns to another store. The employees at this store won't even take a second to LISTEN. Corporation should look at this branch and re-train everyone from top to bottom. Its a shame as they are the closest store to where I live, but would rather drive farther out of the way to be treated well and have the right parts in stock. read more

I went in for an oil change for my Corolla and they said my car was only compatible with synthetic oil ($90+). But the oil cap and owners manual clearly say that conventional oil and high mileage ones are fine too! What a joke, they only wanted to charge me more for an oil change. I brought my car in with 4 bald tires and a need for a new battery. Ralph and his staff were prompt, honest and above all friendly the whole time I was there! Even with other customers who were coming in that were rude, expecting a deal and thinking they were the only ones with anything to do today, the staff was patient and helpful in getting people back on the road. I brought my Mini Cooper here because the passenger rear brake was seizing. They took a look at my car, and let me know that my problem was with my emergency brake cable. They had the car up on the lift and took the time to show me what was wrong. A big shout out to Vince and Alex for their honest and quick diagnosis. And it didn't cost me a penny! I had a nail in my tire and called to make an appointment to bring the car in. I spoke with Alex and he said to just bring it in without an appointment. I get there an hour later and he says to come back tomorrow instead because they got busy. This is the second time I've had this happen at this location. I drove from the city just to have him tell me he can no longer accommodate me without a regard for my commute, time and I received no apology. I will never go there again! read more

I've been going to this pep boy's location for a couple years now, but I think I'm done with them. Today I went by to get an oil change, replace blinker light and a tire rotation. The person at the desk said no way they had time for a tire rotation and as it was they were squeezing me in on the oil change. That was ok, I've never had to make an appointment (because I always leave the cars with them) but I was ok with going back for the tire rotation another time. They proceeded with oil change and fixed the blinker light. In the meantime, I received the call from the shop after their standard inspection. They informed me that my brakes were in major need of replacement - to the point of being unsafe as they could do that right now for $400. I have 41k miles on this car. But my distaste of the situation is the fact they had no time to rotate my tires today but they would have time to do the brake Job upsell? This was the location that I purchased all new tires last spring, mind you. This treatment doesn't sit well with me, even if my brakes truly need replaced, how could you trust them? read more

I used the on line service to make an appointment for 10:30am. rather than wait around I chose to leave and come back. I had appointments that day and task to get accomplished. I called 3 hours later to retrieve my car only to discover my car had not been touched, other than to park in the back of the building. Not sure why am appointment is offered. They are the absolute worst. I made an appointment online for an oil change and they said they normally dont take appointments that late (Dont make an appt online). They took my car at 6 and the guy told me it would be a 2 hour wait and that he would call me. I went home to wait for the car and called at 6:50 to make sure that they would get to it even though they closed at 7. He said yes they would and to call back at 7:15 for a better estimate of when the car would be done. I tried to call, but as it was after hours, the call wouldn't go through. I went to the store around 8:20 because I never heard back. Store was closed and no one was around. I went to my car which was around back AND THEY LEFT IT UNLOCKED!!! Not only did they not tell me anything, they left my car unlocked in a busy neighborhood! OTHER CARS WERE UNLOCKED TOO! Do not trust this place with your car. It might get stolen! read more

I got an old Lexus LS that is fabulous but more and more needs little repairs here and there. I love how fast they are, how well they do repairs, and how well they communicate. I always get a call or text when it's done and its always way before I expect the the work to be completed. It just feels good to have good mechanics in my back pocket when I need it. read more

I went to PepBoys for an oil change. I got there and the man said she would be right with me. He was typing on the computer. I waited, what felt like a forever, I then looked up and he's still there, typing, then not, he doesn't say anything thing to me. There is another woman helping a customer. She finishes and then she helps me. The man is still there. No longer typing. I come back to get my car and he has a customer. When he's done I thought oh he'll help me now... no. He says I'll be right with you... he leaves and never comes back. The same lady shows up and she helps me. I sort of felt like the man never had any intention of helping me. Because, it seemed like every time it was my turn, he had something else to do. It was my first time to PepBoys, it will be my last. When I picked up my car, all I was told was the price. They didn't confirm what they did to the car, nor did they mention topping of fluids, or rotating the tires. Nothing was said except price. Customer service is low. Price is about the same when I go to the dealer, so I think I'll go back to the dealer, where I get quality service, and friendly customer service. read more

After having living in Los Angeles and getting very cheap, but also inconsistent service, this Pep Boys location is a breath of fresh air. I needed an oil change, so I printed off a $20 oil change coupon, and scheduled an appointment online a few days before, quick and easy. Day of, I walked in, the worker behind the counter greeted me, and then took down my information quickly, offered me coffee and said it'd be about 45 minutes. No problem, I went next door to grab some coffee. Came back about 50 minutes later and my car was ready to go. They took my coupon and I was out the door. Now what puts this location over the top for me is that nearly every time I used to go to Pep Boys in Los Angeles, nine times out of ten they'd forget to reset the oil change indicator on the on-board computer and I'd have to go back inside and mention this, but these guys already had that done. It's a small thing, but it makes me feel better knowing that they remember the small stuff, without me telling them about it. read more

I don't know why this place is got a bad reputation on yelp. I've been going here since I moved to Forest Park for oil changes. The staff is always been very pleasant to work with as well as never trying to oversell you on anything. They actually are one of the most honest mechanics I've dealt with since driving. The only downside has nothing to do with the staff or how they work, it's the location. It's a very difficult intersection to deal with sometimes and parking can be a little confusing if you don't know that there's additional parking behind the building. All in all I will continue to give Pep Boys my business for car maintenance and will continue to get my will changed every 3000 miles there! If you're in River Forest, Oak park, or Forest Park give him a shot Also, don't plan on going in there seeing a lot of merchandise. They mostly deal with repairs. This place is seriously awful at customer service. I needed a battery, and I came in around 10 am. They said they did not have my battery in stock, but they would have it in a few hours, and they would call me when it was there. I called at 3 pm, because I hadn't heard from them. Their phone rang and rang and no answer. I tried again a few minutes later, and the man who answered seemed to have no recollection of what was going on. He said their delivery was held up due to weather. I asked if the battery would be in before 5 pm. He said yes, and assured me they'd call. 5 pm comes. No call. I call again. A man answers and I ask if the battery is in. He, too, has no idea about either of my previous calls. He asks me what size engine I have, because they do have SOME batteries there for my car. No one asked me this originally! So I give him my VIN number to check, and what do you know, the battery has been there all along! He tells me to come in. When I get in the shop, there is NO one behind the counter or inside assisting customers. I wait about 5 minutes, and then I have to pull out my phone to call them to get someone to even come to the front counter. The guy who rang me up barely said two words to me, too. I finally got my battery. I came here because it's very close to home. I will not be back. Get some customer service skills. read more

The palace for half truths and vagaries of auto repair! Went in a for $189/per axle brake job - as the description on the web site and staff spin of included new pads & resurface the rotors. While washing the car, 1 week and 300 miles later, I saw & felt the rotors were NOT resurfaced. Alex the manager told me they do not resurface - only replace rotors at approx $50 per rotor. He denied the website brake pads & rotor description and the rotor service on the receipt is only 'cleaning the rotor'. Midas and others can perform the same - replace pads service for half the price and none of the deception! I had brought the car in before and was happy with previous work. The staff sales pitch & advert are intentionally deceptive. NEVER AGAIN! read more

Bad Experience! Please DO NOT GO HERE! I had to go without a car because they failed to call me and wouldn't turn over the car when I arrived. Below are the details: 1. When I called for a quote at 3pm today, my quote was within the $400 range with the coupon and service was scheduled at 5pm with 1-2 hour duration. 2. When I arrived I was the only customer in the room and wasn't greeted. 3. When I was assisted the Representative quoted tires with the coupon at the $600 range. 4. She stated she would call when service was completed or at 7pm. No call was received. No voice mail was left. 5. When I didn't hear back, luckily I arrived at the shop before they left. After dealing with them at the front door for 30 min I was allowed to obtain my possessions for work. When asked what I should do without my car I was told, "That's for you to figure out." 6. They refused to provide my car to me and told me to return again at 7am. 7. When I called the customer service line, Tod stated there was nothing he could do. When I asked about compensation to get to work he said he couldn't help. He stated a call back will be placed within 24 business hours. I told him so basically 2 days? He said that was standard verbiage and he feels confident a Manager will reach out in the morning. I don't think I will be doing business with Pep Boys anymore. read more

I went to Pepboys to get a set of tires and brakes due to I was driving and knew my car was not safe... I walked in and Received a quote on a set of tires from the service guy who convinced me not to walk out and go to Firestone. Where I originally had a credit account. I received such great customer service from the entire team including the manager who explained everything in detail about what they performed on my car and even saved me money on my oil change. I was very happy with there services that day! My car is now safe for me to drive because of the Professional team,who work at Pepboys this is the place to bring your car to be serviced! read more

I have been taking my car to the Forest Park Pep Boys location for over 10 years now and have finally given up (and will not use them again). There is a reason they average about 2 stars. The only bright spot is they can do same day service. I had a rear brake caliper failure in Nov 2021 where they replaced that caliper, both rotors + brakes. As luck would have it, the other old caliper on the other side failed ~ 6 months later (they should have been replaced at the same time but I didn't get that recommendation from them). They quoted me $930 to replace the same 2 rotors, the same 2 brakes, + the other caliper. They did the identical job ~6 months ago for $570 and argued that raw material prices gone up and wouldn't offer any price relief considering they did almost identical repair job previously (and failed to recommend replacing both calipers). To top it off, they also replaced all 4 brake pads a few months before this, and after I picked it up, one of the mechanics in the garage said my rotors were pretty scored & should had replaced those as well. The guy at the front desk obviously didn't talk to his mechanic and only offered the pads could be replaced when they wear out. Both Pep Boys Front desk people were rude. The bright spot was that Pete's Auto in FP did the job for less than 1/2 the cost, car is great, they get the 5 stars. read more

Horrible! Got 2 tires replaced. One tire was faulty and leaked immediately. Went back for the warranty repair and had to wait half a day before they even brought the car into the garage (still waiting). I'm not sure if they give lower priority to honoring a warranty since they're not being paid but this is ridiculous. Probably would have taken 15 minutes to repair but instead they let every other customer go ahead. They keep saying you should have dropped off but what if you don't have a ride?! This is the shadiest business practice. read more

If I could give a 0 I would. I had the very unfortunate experience of visiting this Pep Boys. I setup an appointment online for a simple oil change and when I arrived the manager had no idea. The young lady that was assigned to work on my vehicle was new or not confident in her abilities. She performed my oil change and told the manager that I needed a new battery. They did not show me any proof of this but I didn't know better so went ahead with things. Within about 40 mins I paid and was sent on my way. I stopped at a gas station on my way home and had no problems. When I reached my apartment I realized I forget something and went back to the car. I proceeded to try to get in and noticed my remote wasn't working. I had no car trouble prior but after a "battery change" my car went dead. I called and the manager asked me to pop the hood and jiggle some wires. I had no idea what he was talking about so he proceeds to advise me to have my father or neighbor help me locate the battery and make sure the wires were properly connected (I found this request very odd considering this was the service which I was under the assumption I just paid for). I told him there was no one around so he then walked me through the process. Turned out the wires to the battery weren't properly placed. He directed me to push the wires in which I was a bit apprehensive about because there were sparks, but again what do I know. He told me to come back to the shop so they could fix the issue. I've had a number of battery changes, even at places like AutoZone, and have not had an experience such as this. I began my drive back to Pep Boys and made it a block before my car shut off again. Luckily, I was on a side street and was able to pull over. I called the manager again and he told me to jiggle the wires and continue making my way there (This also rubbed me the wrong way but there was only 2 more miles to go so I thought nothing of it. In hindsight, I now realize the risk I was taking with my life and those around me). My car stopped a total of 3 times in those 2 miles! The last time I was about two blocks from the shop, so I called again and he said we would send someone out to meet me. I called 3 times waiting in the middle of a 4-lane main road in a stopped car and because the battery wasn't working the hazard lights weren't working. The manager actually raised his voice at me when I asked why it was taking 15 mins for someone to come meet me 2 blocks down. The shop sign was clearly visible from where I was stopped. When the young lady working on my car finally strolled by she was laughing and smiling at me. At this point I was completely fed up. I felt taken advantage of, disrespected, uncared for, and abandoned. I told the lady her behavior was inappropriate, which only fueled her laughter. She tightened some wires, the car turned on and I pulled up to the shop. At this point I couldn't imagine things getting worse but they did. When I arrived the manager totally ignored me, granted he was working with someone else, given the gravity of the situation and knowing I was on my way, it just further proved his disregard concerning my situation. When he finally finished I expressed my dissatisfaction and told him to imagine if I was his mother, daughter, or wife and someone told her to continue getting into a car that was stopping in traffic, how would he feel. He had nothing to say but that they would fix the issue. I repeatedly told him to return my car to the condition it was in previously and let me be on my way. Instead he decided to impose his will on me and have me wait over 30 minutes to do whatever he did to my car. I asked for my old battery and refund of my money repeatedly and neither was provided. It was very apparent that he was not interested in dealing with me. I even disclosed my encounter with the lady who worked on my car and his response was "I was not there so I don't know what happened". There was only person in the entire establishment to try to explain what happened and sincerely apologize to me but I only saw and spoke to him once. I'm not sure what standards Pep Boys upholds their employees to but I can personally say I would not have wished this experience on even my worst enemy. Thank God, I happened to forget something and was not headed on the expressway when this occurred. Who would have been held accountable then? The matter in which my situation was handled is unacceptable. Since this establishment as a whole did not care nor did the staff try to hide how unbothered they were concerning me, I did call customer service while I was waiting in the shop to file a formal complaint. The manager and lady working on my car did not even have the decency to offer me an apology for dropping the ball on multiple ends with the installation of my battery, the inconvenience they caused me, or the danger they put me in. I came to Pep Boys today 1 hour before they closed and Joseph and Brandon were wonderful enough to fit me in for an oil change. Joseph especially was very kind about it. I really appreciated this being 37 weeks pregnant with a 2 year old with me. Also, Pep Boys never tries to scam me to spend more like some other places in the area. Thank you, Pep Boys :) read more

I have had one of the best experiences at Pep Boys! I had a very tight budget that I had to stick to, and Aracely B. was amazing and took care of me! She took ownership of my issues and made it her own. She then explained to me what she could do and what my options were! At no point did she tell me what she couldn't do. Once we agreed on what was going to be done, she was 100% upfront with everything. about an hour before the car was scheduled to be ready, she gave me a call and gave me a heads up so I can start heading over. Once there I also needed some windshield wipers (she did not upsell me or anything, I just happen to see them and realized that mine were worn out) and she somehow got me those too without going too much over what I originally planned, and the team installed it for me! Overall, the manager should be proud of the team he has put together, especially Aracely. No sales pitches, never pushy and only got me what I needed.
