Not a good place at all. I came to their shop with a flat tire that needed to be patched, 30 minutes before they would close. Their guy said I need an appointment to get that done. Seriously for a flat tire? Please if you can't handle business, leave it for the people who can handle it. Wasted my time coming to your shop. Pep Boys lets you make appointments for services that it can't deliver, and does not notify you until you've driven out there. I made an appointment for a brake service offer they had posted online When I arrived I was told they don't offer the advertised service.. but they do offer something more expensive. When I complained, I was met with a shrug and indifference. They didn't care that they falsely advertised. I wish I had the foresight to check out their deservedly poor reviews before going there. Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews before I came here! I went to get new tires for my 2024 Hyundai Elantra and a few days later my battery died and needed to be replaced! I spent almost $700 on new tires here then had to go pay an additional $500 for battery replacement! I called them and they told me to come review the cameras but I was already out of town! I have a 2024 car that had no prior battery issues so I'm pretty sure y'all did something to mess my car up. Y'all also said yall did alignment on my car and it feels as if it was never aligned. Got a call on 3/31/25 about my specific part for my car, couldn't go in till 4/2/25. Dropped it off at open (8am). Waited till about 1pm to call back and get an update. They finally tell me that the part they got was the wrong size after it was sitting in store for more than a day. This whole situation could have been avoided if someone checked to see if the correct rim was sent. Now I have to wait possibly 4/5/25 to have my car fixed. Due to the part not coming now till 4/4/25. What an awful experience. This place isn't organized at all at the moment it seems. Don't waste your time like I did today. read more

This is for the store in Germantown, MD on Frederick rd. I went in on Friday to get a diagnostic because my "engine power reduced" light came on. I was told I needed a VVT Selenoid and oil change. They told me I had to come back in. I was told to make an appointment in the morning, I made an appointment at 10:30a and my car was done till 5:34p. Not only did they take forever to "fix my issue", on Monday night my "engine power reduced" light came on again. I told the guy in the front that I wanted another diagnostic and I would like to see the codes, he was dismissive because I am a woman "who don't know", they over charged me for something simple. If I paid $110 for a diagnostic, just to be lied to and getting over charged for something that wasn't even wrong with my car.i also left a voicemail for a call back, got to the store and was told that they heard my voicemail but I never got a call back so I had to come back to the store. My worst experience ever!!!! Everyone there is rude and dismissive. I see why reviews are so bad. I concur.

One year later and I am still dealing with issues from this place messing up my vehicle with basic services. The problem one year ago was that they replaced my brakes and didn't tighten a part enough, so the loose piece was scraping against my car. They fixed that, but apparently tightened the part too much. I once again started hearing a dragging noise about a few months ago. Today, when I got an oil change at a different place and asked about the noise, I was told it was because the piece was now tightened too much so it was causing the break pads to rub against the rotor, thus causing it to wear down faster. The sound is the brake pads rubbing against the rotor...they asked, who did your brakes last? The same way before it was, "who did your last oil change" after they tightened the bolt on the oil pan so much that they stripped the threads and I ultimately had to replace the oil pan to stop it from leaking. Why bother staying in business if you're going to do half ass jobs and ruin vehicles? These oil and brake issues are the only major issues I've had with my car in 13 years and it is directly due to you. read more

So I brought my car in at 11:45 AM to get the brake pads and the rotors replaced on my rear Wheels. I was told it would be a two hour job. At 3 o'clock, I was told they still need another two hours so I left. I called back around 6 PM and they told me that their diagnostic equipment cannot get the calipers to release and apparently around 4:30/5 PM is when they found that out but neglected to tell me until I called. I wasted almost 7 hours at this location. I would never recommend it to anyone. read more

Please don't go here, especially if you're a woman. I went in to get my flat tire patched and they told me they had to look at it first to see if they can fix it, and that it would took them 2 hours to get it fixed and that I would received a call after they inspected it. I went shopping to Target because they took my keys and I didn't have anyone to pick me up, I waited for more than 2 hours to receive a call and they never called me. I went back to see if they at least inspected the tire and they didn't. After about 15 minutes waiting for them to give me a response, one of them went to look at the tire and said that it "couldn't" be fixed, they tried to sell me the same brand for the tire because they know it's an expensive brand. They just wasted my time and all they had to do it's inspect the tire first and then let me know if it's fixable or not. I went to NTB and they patched it with no issues. read more

This place messed up my tpms sensor(s). Went there for a simple tire replacement and they supposedly did a complementary tpms maintenance. From that day on, tpms light kept coming on and off and since yesterday, that thing doesn't even go off anymore. The only reason why I gave a star is I have to in order to post review. I came in for an appointment today. The person assisting me was so unfriendly, didn't even bother asking for my name. If he did, he would know that Tire Rack shipped tires at their location. I gave instructions to let them know that I have new wheels in the car and that new tires need to be mounted on new wheels and old tires removed. Guy said their impact tools might scratch wheels. I advised that it's not acceptable as i'm mounting new wheels so i went home to get my wheel safe impact tool. When I got back, I handed over to another person. I went over same instructions as before. New tires on new wheels and remove old tires from old wheels. At this point, I felt confident that they understood what exactly I needed to get done so off to Starbucks I went. I came back an hour later to check and saw new tires mounted on old wheels. Message to Pep Boys management. Listen to your customers. The first guy made me feel like crap. The second guy was better. Better enough that he sold me on alignment. I brought a flat tire in for repair and was told tire is "beyond repair". So, on my way out, a technician came out of the garage and offered to fix my tire for $20. He removed the nail, put the tire back on. Done in 10 minutes. I didn't get either person's name. The fatty, white guy who refused to fix my tire was definitely a racist. Just want to say thank you to Colin for helping me out. He looked up my vin on my Jeep to tell me the amp I'd need for a new alternator. He also gave me the labor quote of installing too. He told me to speak with Yipzel when I came back on Sunday because they partnered with Hertz & Lyft to get me back home. However.....when I came in on Sunday, the staff including Yipzel were all clueless about the Lyft service. They told me an employee would take me home in their company car, but no one came Forward. So deducted a star for this miscommunication. I didn't have an appointment and weekends here are super busy! I decided to walk around to the shops in the strip mall here and waste some time vs contacting an Uber or Lyft. After an hour or more of walking around the shops in the area i came back. I saw my car partially pulled into one of the garage stalls. The guy who helped me at the service desk saw me and came to tell me that there was no issue with my alternator. It was my computer system. He said I'd have to take it to the dealership for them to take a look. Luckily, I have Max Care through Carmax and will be taking it there to have it worked on. While I do always have a good experience at Pep Boys and trust them, I was a bit disappointed by the false info given to me the day prior. But I know they are trustworthy in all their work and prices. They didn't charge me for checking things on the Jeep today. Still a good experience and will bring my car back. read more

My initial interaction started with a phone call with Dave. I needed, possibly, a new battery and new alternator. Dave gave me the confidence that everything will be done today. I came to the store before 5 and met with Dave. Still feeling confident. 3 hours later, I am still waiting for my service to complete. I understand all vehicles are different and there are lots of inventory to manage, along with many vehicles to service before myself. I just wish servicing vehicles wouldnt take over a 3 hour wait. Took my 2020 Dodge in for new tires, went with Cooper. The first sign of trouble was when I entered the building, the show room had more lightbulbs out than I could count but I work during the week and had to get tires on my vehicle. The service was quick, within a couple of hours, I received the call stating they were done. Great! The very next day, while on the highway I felt a vibration, by Tuesday it was so bad I took it back to the Germantown Pep Boys to check the tires. After waiting a few hours, I was told 3 out of the 4 tires were unbalanced. Annoyed at having to come back, loose time from work, I chalked it up to stuff happens. Again, right when I began driving, I could feel there was something wrong with the steering. So, I took a day off, now Wednesday, and took it to a mechanic I trust. What we discovered, all four tires were unbalanced! One tire, I recall was better without any of the weights they had put on! Not only did all of this cost me to take more time off but at a price of $109 on top of the $1026 already paid to Pep Boys. Insult to injury, again I wouldn't have given this much thought but I have black rims and the Pep Boy staff placed white weights. Big picture, if it works, who cares about the color but again one more oversight on their part. Lastly, they never wiped off the wheel grease used, again attention to detail. read more

Since the time I called to the shop asking for an appointment for tire rotation the person who answered told me that I didn't need it. So after arguing with him, he told me to go and he would check the tires. Once there, other worker was yelling at me in a despotic way to not "park" in that spot. I explained that I wasn't parking, that the guy inside asked me to bring the car there so he could examine it. I don't know what's going on on this location but if you want to be treated like garbage, this is your place to go! I'm not going back there! read more

This is a review for the store on Rt. 40 in Frederick MD. I've been in business for 32 and know how it should be run. The Manager at every turn, chose the wrong path. There were to mount and balance 4 custom wheels and tires. They were all loose and brought in. The scheduled day, no work was done. They called the second day, when I arrived the manager apologized for their performance. I looed at them...OK. I installed them and drove the car. At 67mph the problem revealed itself. They never balanced them...ANY of them. That was it, done with Pep Boys Frederick. To add insult to injury, the manager charged we for valve stems....hello 2023 cars have TPMS stems now. Which I supplied as well. Manager.....the system won't allow me to take them off your ticket...Now very poor work, actually created a hazardous driving circumstance. Worst customer service ever from Matthew, who is very disrespectful... I arrived at the Germantown, MD location at 1:50 pm for my 2 pm appointment to learn that it was canceled and that they didn't have the time to notify me. Matthew convinced me to reschedule to 11 am the following day since he only had 1 tech working and would have 4 the next day. He also promised to get me out within 1 hour. I arrived there at 11 am and patienly waited 2 hours before inquiring about the status of my car... the gentleman explained to me that the bay was occupied by a big truck and that I was next. I waited for another 2h 10 min until I realized that they were servicing other customers. I politely asked Matthew about my car again, and without apologizing, he used a customer as an example, stating that she had patiently waited 7 hours without saying a word. He then started threatening not to serve me if I said another word. Matthew was very rude and unprofessional...I was actually looking to give 0 star as Matthew is the front line and represents the company. I finally got my car back at 3:35 pm. (4h30 minutes later) for a service that was supposed to be done within 1 hour. read more

This is my second time coming to this pep boys, and both times my experience has been wonderful! Dave was the rep who helped me this time - and he was great in calling me before an extra service had to be performed to make sure I was okay with the fees prior to doing them. Beforehand I had scheduled my appointment for an earlier day, and Dave was the same person who was honest in the wait time for the day, and how I may or may not get seen at my scheduled time due to delays. So he offered to have me come in at an earlier time on a different day, which I readily agreed to so I didn't have to wait a whole day (thankfully also, my car was still functional until then). Absolutely terrible experience. I tried to get tires here but they didn't have the size I needed so I ordered them through Amazon. Today I checked their schedule and found they had openings all afternoon for tire mounting so I went up there from Bethesda. When I got there the guy at the counter was eager to help me until he found out I had the tires and only needed mounting. As soon as he heard I wasn't going to buy my tires there his whole attitude changed. First of all it was $130 to mount and balance the tires - not the $19.99/tire I was quoted through Amazon at the same store and not the $15 I found listed on Pep Boys web site. Even my car dealership only would charge $120 - and they're always the most expensive around. Then they told me they would have to keep it all day - until 8:00 PM (this was at 2:00 PM - and remember their website showed appointments available through 7:00 PM). I'm glad they didn't have the tires in my size. Now I can get them mounted and balanced by a reputable tire store. read more

These guys are amazing. My dumb ass ran the car until it was out of oil. It started ticking last night (no light because that's how my life is). Got it here today and it was out of oil. I bought a jug and they filled her up for me no additional charge. The ticking might be due to lack of oil so if it is not, I'm back on Tuesday to diagnose it. And if it is, I'm back on Tuesday to get my tire rotation. Amazingly helpful and not outwardly judgy with my boneheaded mistake. I definitely will be back!! read more

Avoid Pep Boys! It is a bad place for your car I have a 2013 Toyota Prius and was looking for an oil change. Then I received an email offer from the Pep Boys office. It was a nice offer and didn't want to miss it. The offer was "GET THE $100 SMART SERVICE PACK" for Synthetic Oil Change, For Fuel System Treatment, Tire Rotation, and Comprehensive Maintenance Check. Then I called them and booked an appointment. When I went to there but the technician said " It cannot be done with the same day appointment and You have to make another appointment". Then I booked an appointment for the next day and then I dropped my Toyota Prius at 20900-A Frederick Rd, Germantown location at 4:00 pm and waited until 7:20 pm. Then they told me that the technicians were unable to reset the service reminder button. I told them if they cannot do it at that time, I can take my car and bring it back soon. I took the car and the airbag sign was flashing on the screen. The buttons stopped working. I was unable to change even a radio station and navigate some other things. It stopped working. I called the service manager, Mr. Sergio, and told him that my car didn't have any problem before but those things were happening. He asked me to take it back to the service center. I took it back and two guys started to reset the service reminder and fix the airbag which was flashing. Unfortunately, they were unable to fix the issues. Finally, they advised me to take my car to a Toyota dealer and get those things fixed. I drove to Jim Coleman Toyota center and they told me I need to pay $1378.63. I called the service manager, Mr. Sergio, and he informed me about the issue and sent him an email with the repair information and the amount of money they asked me for. The service manager emailed me back saying. The issue was ongoing and his company is not liable for the repair cost. Remember! I didn't have any problem before and the Pep Boys technician evaluation checklist confirmed that! The bottom line is the technicians at Pep Boys are not professionals. They don't know what they are doing avoid Pep Boys as much as possible and look for services from other providers. read more

Made an appointment for 1:30. Arrived on time. Was told that they couldn't get me in until 4:30. What is the point in making an appointment if you can't fit me in? Prices are not good. Customer Service is terrible. All the employees have that attitude where you can tell they hate everyone and everything around them. Go anywhere but here ! They have an automated text system thing so they easily could have sent out texts to everyone who made an appointment that they were running behind schedule. I just had a BAD experience at Pep Boys in Germsntown. I took my car there before when I had a flat tire and was pleased with the service. I'm getting ready to go out of town and took the car over today at about 130 to get checked out because the tires seem to be shaking. When the customer in front of me finished at about 140, the one free cashier who had been helping him started doing paperwork! I heard her tell somebody that somebody didn't call the night before etc. I stood in line until about 147. I told myself I was going to leave if I stayed until 150. When she finally called me over at 147 and I told her what I wanted, she asked if I could leave the car. I asked how long and she replied she didn't know because so many were ahead of me. This is understandable, but it was the way she said it. After that wait- which may seem like only a few minutes but is a long time when standing in line- and the attitude, I left. read more
