Only went here because they had a somewhat hard to find battery for a sports car. Battery itself died twice, and I will say they were good at honoring the warranty though I didn't appreciate having to pay $43 just got them to check if it was bad (it was). Good service. Don't come here with an emergency. In fact, don't come to any auto shop with an emergency. That's a tall tale sign you neglected your vehicle. If you do come in with an emergency, expect the worst - like waiting for your vehicle to be repaired. Vehicle repair doesn't magically happen within an hour. Understand that more time is taken to ensure the work is done properly. If you come in 1-3 hours before they close, you're not doing mechanics a favor unless you tell them your vehicle can be held overnight. That said, Pep Boys do take care of you. They have competitive pricing. If you opt to go all in and buy tires with road hazard warranty, lifetime allignment, etc., they will understand you are there to support their business. Purchase any kind of warranty for their work and they will stand by it. You might think what is the purpose of a warranty when the job is supposed to be done right, but many unexpected factors come in when owning an automobile like road conditions, daily use, age of the vehicle, or a less than stellar repair. Mechanics are working to keep you alive on the road. Any upselling is a result of your concern coming in. You have the option to walk out or take care of it based on their recommendation. Last time, took my car in for a simple oil change, and ever since leaking oil on a newer car. Called took it back and was told it was a gasket around the oil plug and they supposedly took care of it which obviously they didn't. Now I'm leaking worse and of course can't get a timely appointment, my guess the stripped the oil plug. Your word as a business is all you have and obviously your reputation is not important. This is obviously going to cost me more money to take it to the dealer. I prefer to use local businesses but some just don't care. My advice only use them to change your wiper blades... read more

Set up an appointment for new tires and an oil change. After arrival was told it would take around 2 hours. Came back over 2 hours later and car wasn't even on the rack. Asked again and was told 45 minutes. Came back and car on rack, but nowhere near completion. Complained to store manager who said service department was a separate entity?? Ultimately, it took nearly 5 hours for our service to be completed. They did throw in the oil change for our trouble, but lost us as customers for good. read more

I called to schedule a brake fluid flush, gave them my vehicle information and what I needed done which requires a reset for vehicle status they schedule an appointment knowing all this information and when I arrive make me wait 25 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to inform me they aren't able to do the service. Ordered my tires on Amazon and paid the extra to have them mounted at this location , after dropping the wheels off around 11 I get a call from one of the mangers saying that they would need to clamp my custom $2600 wheels on the inside chrome surface and said that it would leave a row of dimple marks from the tire machine .. I told him whatever you do .. do not do that to my wheels !!! This was at 1:45 p.m. and I said I'll be right over . When I showed up I seen that they had already tried it before they had called me and the tire machine had already ruined 2 if the wheels !!! They ended up taking the wheels to I.C. wheels in Peoria to have them mounted . Upon having them picked up not one person wanted to fix the problem of the 2 wheels they had ruined .. I just wish I could post the pictures of what they did to a set of $2600 wheels after they were told not to clamp them the wrong way !!! I used to like this place a lot, but the last time I came here, I scheduled an appointment on line for a simple oil change, and it took three hours to process. Not only that, but they lumped in some additional fees that I had to dispute, which, granted, was resolved, but the fact that I even had to go through that process when no other car service vendor that I go to would make me go through that is a clear testament to the common business practice that Pep Boys follows. Yesterday I walked outside of my house to find that my rear passenger was completely flat. I used a mobile air compressor quickly to air up the tire so that I could rush to this Pep Boys before they closed (I would find out later that I had a huge piece of metal in my tire). This location closed at 8 and I had gotten there at 7:45. I asked if they could please change my tire because I knew I had some kind of nail or something in the tire and I would be flat again before I even made it back home. The service guy in the back said NO and that it was too late; I went inside to ask the clerk inside and he said NO as well. Front service is ok, but the mechanical work they do on cars is terrible. How many times do I have to come back to have them redo the job? I have service paperwork receipts piled up from this place, and I wouldn't have if the job was done right the first time. They also seem to mess up other things after working on something else. It's hard being a woman and going to car shops because they take advantage of your lack of knowledge about cars. I only went the second time to use the rewards discount, but never again. read more

But I got greeted and checked in and away with my Honda pilot. Parts for my suv were not available on site so had to wait for delivery but it was quick. I can back next day and within 2 hours out. I have had several services performed here and had been consistently getting decent service. But Today- by 2:15 my vehicle was checked in for at least the oil change and why did my CHECK ENGINE just come on a few miles ago? And I'll be waiting here. 90 minutes later I checked on it. Oil change done. And the check engine light? Showed some sort of code, and for $100 we can diagnosis it fully, NEXT WEEK. Yes, I wanted that done originally! Made an appointment for my breaks to be changed at 12pm. Came in and the gentleman said they would have it back immediately for inspection, I ended up waiting 30minutes for them to even take my car back for a break inspection. Then an hour and twenty minutes later I walk up and I was told he was barely inspecting it right now. Another 20 minutes go by before they told me a quote for the breaks to be changed and rotors to be rotated. I accepted the quote because I've already wasted 2+ hours sitting here. An hour and a half goes by again! I walk up and ask what's going on and was told by the mechanic walking by, "I'm about to start on it now." First off I accepted the quote an hour and a half ago yet you haven't even touched it yet!! It has been 3 hours I've been sitting here missing my plans for the day and you haven't even touch my truck! Now I've been sitting here another hour and a half which makes it 4 and a half hours I've been sitting here waiting for my breaks to be changed when I made an appointment at 12pm!. Not even to mention 3 people have came in AFTER ME (couple hours after me) and have left BEFORE ME! I am still currently here waiting for them to finish this 5 hour break check for 600$ . At this point you'd be better off buying the parts and YouTubing how to do a mechanics job. Worst mechanic shop I've ever been to. Period. I feel as if at this moment they haven't even touched my truck and the rotors they CLAIMED NEEDED TO BE CHANGE NOW. (All four) probably didn't even need to be changed. WOW ! So as I am typing this the gentleman decided to come and tell, "the technician is having trouble getting the bolts off they are pretty tight". When asked how much longer he said the technician said," within the next hour hopefully"... YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME! I asked if it usually took 5-6hours to change some breaks including the rotors and he said, " no sir usually around 2 hours at most.. We're actually just falling a little behind." "A little behind" is a DAMN understatement! I literally have to cancel all my plans for the day because YOU CANT GET YOUR JOB DONE RIGHT! So I am losing money because I have to cancel some business plans and I have to still pay for this joke! If I could give this place a zero it would have been been 3 hours ago. I came outside one morning to a battery that wouldn't start. Being that the dealership where I normally get repair work done was closed I decided to chance this Pep Boys though I haven't had the greatest experience with them in the past. I had the guy come out to test my battery and he said it was bad. Cool, fine, let's replace that bad boy and be on my way. I needed them to do the battery drop for me so I let him know that and settled down to wait. 30-40 minutes later, they still weren't done and I could see my car was not in the bay so I walked over to the service window to inquire. They hadn't even gotten the paperwork yet from the guy at the register! I am willing to overlook a lot of things when you get busy, I get that. But it had not been that busy that morning and I was very clearly with my elderly mother and my ten year old sitting and waiting for this to be done. The battery drop itself takes about 10 minutes and we're out the door. Awesome. Fast forward about a week and I notice something shiny in the well under my windshield... a wrench was left behind randomly. I grab that and as I walk back to my door I notice that the cover for my hood hinge on the driver side (I drive a Honda Fit) is also missing. So the bottom part of my windshield along with the hinges for my hood are exposed as I'm driving around getting all kinds of dirt and water down in there, not to mention it just looks super trashy and ugly. I will never go back here again because they cause more problems than they fix. Find someplace else and pay a little more so that your car isn't trashed while they "fix" your problem. read more

Had a tire blow on a Sunday at 4. Of course my options were limited but this Pep Boys location is near my house and it showed open until 6. I called ahead to make sure they were in fact still open and see if they could help me. The person I spoke to in the service department, upon hearing my issue, basically said that they were still open until 6, but they stop taking cars at 5 and even though it was only 4 he just didn't really know if they could/would help me so I probably shouldn't come. Not that they were already busy, not that it was possible but there'd be a wait etc. Just, that he didn't think I should bother trying. Keep in mind I asked about possibly replacing all 4 tires or just the 1 depending on their availability, and that due to my work commute I was desperately trying to find a same day solution. I understand if they were busy and that is exactly why I called first, but if that was in fact the case they did not communicate it. I have never encountered a service company so uninterested in getting business, let alone the unfortunate situation and taking care of a customer in need. I took my business elsewhere and would be hard pressed to use pep boys in the future. read more

I only went there to get my tires balanced, as I purchased my tires there and it was at no cost to me, when they were finished, they did a "courtesy inspection" and told me I needed both inner and outer tie rod ends on left and right sides were loose and need to be replaced, and said it would cost over $700! I recently had my car serviced at the Chevy dealership, which included a multi point inspection, which includes checking the steering components, no issues were found! I even checked the tie rod ends myself when I got home and they are not loose at all! Being a well experienced mechanic, I know how to check myself! I only went there to get my tires balanced and they tried to rip me off! I recommend to stay away from this shop of your going to have your car repaired! I paid these fools $520 for something that was not the problem. My car was leaking antifreeze and was over heating. I paid $45 for them to check it. Turns out it was the water pump. The said it was an oil bleeder. After the work was done I notice my car was shaking while I was parked. Wtf?! Never going here again. Had my buddy put in the water pump for $80. They want to charge me $990. It is always better to buy your parts from autozone or oreily then have it installed by a trusted mechanic. A lesson that I need to learn. P.S. Worst customer service ever. Workers were rude and unprofessional. Had to call them to find out if vehicle was ready. They said they called, they didn't. They were ready to charge us when we questioned if all the work was done the guy was irritated he actually had to read the paper. Brought in the mechanic and he acted like he was put out because he had to talk to us. After he tried selling us new tires that we knew we didn't need we complained about their attitude and lack of service, he laughed and said "what you want me to take your money?" Went in to the Pepboys on Dysart and Van Buren for an oil change. The friendly and helpful technician Gonzo noticed that my tires were just about gone. Thats when the service manager Ignacio presented me with several options on some new tires. He gave me the best price possible and they had my car in and out in about a 1 1/2 hours.....I am extremely glad my car needed an oil change because I would have never known that I needed tires. I bought a lot of items online to be picked up at this location. Don't even know where to begin. All I can say is you think customer service will be better than the last time it can't be any worse! Right? WRONG! I can honestly say that each time is worse. One night I showed up 5 minutes before the doors were suppose to be locked. Had a item "ready" for pickup. So of course the doors are locked I knock on the window tapping to my watch like hey suppose to be open still. The manager (wish I could remember his name cause he is probably the worse guy they have, or should I say asst manager) next morning I show up a different manager is there. I tell him what happened his response was oh he's the asst manager and they had someone call in last night so he was short handed! Are you f-ing kidding me the asst manager and two other guys were sitting there talking when I showed up! That's the last time I use them. Cut up my pep boys credit card as well. There are other options in the area that are much better and after this experience I found out that they will price match! Only thing I will say is pep boys did have some of the best prices if you ordered online. They usually have some online promo going on. My A/C stopped blowing cold air, after weeks of trouble shooting the problem myself I decided to schedule an appointment to have "professionals" take a look. I scheduled the appointment online for 3:30 and specifically check the box "Waiting at the store for the vehicle". Once I arrived to pep boys for my free service of just a visual inspection the employee tells me that it's going to be a 3 hour wait until they even get to my vehicle. Huh? I thought that was the point of scheduling an appointment. He then proceeded to tell me that I said I was going to drop it off. But no, I specifically checked that I was going to wait. Most likely because I was doing a "free" service that they pushed me to the bottom of the list. Way to win me over as a first time customer. Also the employee had a sh*tty attitude towards me almost arguing. First time at a pep boys and will be the last time I ever step foot into this one. read more

My AC started blowing hot air today, so when I got home I started researching who does AC checks and who was still open that does them. Pep Boys kept coming up and they were open for a few more hours. Plus, they do them for free. The reviews weren't so great, so I reluctantly went on their website and was about to schedule an appointment, but I decided to give them a call so I could get more info. It rang several times before someone answered and immediately put me on hold. I was on hold (wanted to see how long it would take) for about five minutes before being hung up on. But still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and scheduled the appointment online anyway. The next appointment available was for 7pm today, which was excellent. So, I get there at about 6:50. There is no one in sight except a man working on a car in the garage and a man sitting at the desk outside on his cell phone. I stood at the service desk looking around and eventually the guy on his phone comes in and says that someone else will be with me in a minute. Then he yells to the other person, "hey, you have a customer". This guy comes to the desk with something his hand that he must have been looking for. He asks what he can do for me and I tell him that I have an appointment for an AC check. He says, "well, there's no one here that does those. They leave at like 6." I ask, well, why is that appointment available if they don't have anyone to do it and he is in no way helpful and could care less. He says, "just because you were able to make the appointment doesn't mean we can do it..... There's no one here to do it." I leave before getting worked up and causing a scene. Now, I have to go tomorrow after work (if I can find a place with someone capable of doing it) somewhere else just to get it checked. If they hadn't hung up on me, my time would not have been wasted and I might have been able get someone else to do it today. I will never go here again and I wish I would have trusted the reviews. First and foremost, I won't even bother with a star because, sadly, they're barely worth the time I am spending on this review. My husband went in to have our vehicle inspected for a potential buyer. An associate with the name Franco tattoed on his arm, was extremely demeaning and rude. A simple question asking, if the vehicle was ready or how much time would it be ((in consideration for the person I was with who just completed a night shift)) was responded with, "Do you want it done right or what?!" Um, how about a simple lesson in manners and practicing customer service the way it was meant to be. Pepboys, do know that was our first and last visit with you.
