They get the job done. They were able to do engine code reads and perform the repair. I went to two other places first to try and get the code read when my engine light came on, but they weren't doing those things during COVID. PepBoys was. Their retail area is not operating at this time, but they are doing repairs. And they were able to find a coupon code to take out a bit of the sting of the cost of my repair. BUT. They have the waiting area set up for appropriate social distancing, and a second waiting area set up. But another guy who was waiting at the same time as me decided that instead of seating himself in one of the 4 other spots that could view the television...he would go to the one spot that could not see the TV....and instead move the chair next to me. So, I decided to go for a walk while my car was being worked on. There are plenty of posted signs saying what they were doing during COVID, including wearing gloves, wearing masks, and wiping down surfaces at certain intervals. And I can confirm that NONE of those things are happening. Everyone at the counter *had* masks, but they were wearing them like beards. Completely useless. No one had gloves on at anytime inside the store. And I never saw a wiping down of any surface. I didn't really have many options. And thankfully, I was able to leave the store for a while during my repair and distance myself. But they are flouting their own posted rules, which feels unsafe and...like why even say what you are doing to keep safe and clean when you are going to stand directly behind that sign doing the exact opposite of what is stated? read more

I made an appointment to have a flat fixed. When I arrived they said it wouod be 2 hours before they could fix it. Since I'd already removed the wheel I said that I would leave it and come back when it was fixed and they could put it on the car. They said I probably have to wait about two hours to have it reinstalled. I went to Tires Plus and was treated much better. read more

Do not get alignments here!! Fortunately (I think) I didn't pay for it - it came free with a tire purchase. So the 2nd star is for value... they had a good price on the tire I wanted and the mounting is satisfactory. But the alignment... it was very noticeably off when I left their shop, but it was closing time and I was ready to get home. I called and found out that the alignment was warrantied for 90 days, so I took it back in. Check out the pic of driving on the straight interstate on the way home. Actually, I drove straight from Pep Boys to the dealership to get it straightened out. The guys there were amazed... "it was a MILE off". I'm hoping that I caught this staff on an off day because I walked away thinking that I never wanted to go back in there again. I stopped by to pick up some windshield wiper replacement and my mom mentioned that they will change them for free. Sounded great not having to wrestle with wipers in the cold weather. I was optimistic when a staff person immediately greeted me. But, that's were it ended. No offer to find the part, no directions on where to go. I've not been in this store in many years and could have used the help, but I decided to look for them on my own. I found what I needed, including a sign stating they changed them for free, and went to check out. In a station with multiple registers, only one person was present and he was doing a complicated order for the person in front of me. I waited over five minutes for him to finish up or call someone else, but that didn't happen. The associate then instructed me that I had to check out at the register at the mechanic bay if I wanted them out on. I went across the store to stand in yet another line. The service manager told me, after I had waited and finally got to check out, that I should have done so at the first register I was at. They staff then had an impromptu discussion on store policy as I stood there waiting, now after an extended wait. He rang me up and I asked where I needed to go to have them put on my car. I had told him BEFORE he rang me up that I wanted this service. He said that staffer was at lunch and it'd be another 15-20 min wait. I said it would've been nice to know that earlier and that I didn't have that time to wait (I'd already been in the store going on 25 min). The service manager told me to pull around front and he'd try to get away to do it himself. I did, and after another 5 min or so, he ushered me into the bay. There was another mechanic there, but not engaged with any customer. What?!? The wiper change took all of five minutes, but the experience seemed to last a lifetime. I'm trying again next week as I still need my third wiper replaced and we'll see if this was a fluke or their SOP. read more

Do not take your car to this location, do not waste your time and money. My car had problems with the AC, I took it and they told me that it would be ready in three days. After 3 weeks I told them that I was taking it without having finished fixing it. Supposedly they ordered the same hose 4 times and received it wrong 4 times, the time was infinite. They gave me an estimate of $870 for changing two hoses and the day I went to pick it up, the initial estimate had changed to more than $1,000. In the end they charged me almost $500 for just changing one hose, telling me that it was getting cold, after a week the car started to lose cold because they never replaced the second hose even though they had it there for 3 weeks. read more

Every time I come here I say I am never coming back. Dropped my car off for a rotation and oil change. After my car was finished I waited for 35 minutes while they couldn't figure out the computer system to ring me up. I'm told that I need new front tires because they are wearing in the middle from over inflation. I say I bought them less than a year ago and haven't added any air and they are the only ones that have rotated them. The worst part is I go out to look at them and they didn't even rotate them. I curbed the front tire the day before and the curb rash was in the front right still. I went back in to talk to the service manager and he didn't even apologize. Dropped car off in May 2023 car overheating what told I would need new thermostat along with cooling system cost $1200. Back in June AC issue fixed that $1100. October car overheating once again. They said it was the plastic parts they replaced. Once again, they replaced the coolant system along with the thermostat. Charged me for labor $660.00 less $200 they discounted me. Picked up on Friday and on Saturday it happened again. Was stranded and had to wait 3 hours for AAA - twice in less then 48 hours...Pep Boys looked at it on Monday and said it was the water pump, which it was all along, told them to fix it paid $113 they gave me a discount, and picked it up on Monday. Tuesday morning, engine light comes on, told them I was taking to O'Reilly's to run a test and they said NO come here. Went in, the test they ran on the engine light came back saying it was my catalytic converter. WOW asked if they could fix and they said they do not do that in there shop. I had already had the car sold without the engine to CARVANA for $8500 and now they were going to only give me $4775.00. End up selling to CARMAX for $5000 lost $3500. Next day someone interested from CARMAX called to asked questions I asked why the engine light was on and they said from their test it came back oxygen senor which would have cost maybe $300 - PEP BOYS just want me to leave. Customer service is as polite as you would expect. Unless you have a scheduled appointment they have no idea of when they are able to help you. I purchased Cooper tires at their recommendation. Within 6 months one tire completely blew out the side walls on the highway and 2 others struggle to maintain tire pressure above 25 psi. While out of town and using their "Warranty" it was one of the most painful experiences that I have been through, showing how truly lazy and unwilling to help they truly are. On my second vehicle, I also purchased new tires around the same timeframe. One tire began to separate on the inside creating a large bulb. This bulb caused the vehicle to be unable to drive at speeds over 25 mph. Same issue when trying to have the vehicle worked on, the staff was extremely unhelpful and required you to call to obtain warranty information, then after you obtained the information, they would call whoever you spoke with to verify that information. I do NOT recommend Pep Boys at any location. Unless you are okay with anytime you need work done, you drop off your vehicle in the mornimg with the possi ility of MAYBE getting it back before closing...maybe! I would recommend going to a dealer where you are more likely to have better service and better care. I do NOT recommend this place. Customer service is horrible! read more

I suspected my brakes were going out due to a grinding/scraping noise they were making when braking and turning. I wanted to go to Pruitt's Automotive however they weren't able to take my car for another week. Someone in the waiting room suggested Pep Boys on Breckenridge so I took it there. They called me after the assessment and said I needed new brake pads, 2 front rotors and a serpentine belt. They also said it would be $900!!! I told them to go ahead since I have no knowledge of how much that stuff runs. I then decided to call around and found out I could have someone do it for $350 (labor included!)!!! I went to go pick it up to move it to another mechanic and they said they couldn't because it was on the lift and all the mechanics were gone for the day. When I questioned them about the price, they said "Oh, it's actually $800". Then they said if I took it they would still have to charge me 10-12% for parts they ordered. So I had to pay Uber again the next day to get my car back and pay $52 to get my car out (which was more than 10-12%). Do not go here, they will take advantage of you and charge too much! I had a control arm and 2 tie rod ends replaced on my car yesterday. I was told after that repair, I would need an alignment. The place who did my repair , doesn't do alignments. A small local family owned place in my small town near Louisville. Patron the locals and the small guys. NO PROBLEM. I called around. Everyone that does alignments, charges the same within just a few dollars. Ok PepBoys is in the same parking Lot as my work. Convenient. I'll drop it off. Go to work and pick it up after work. I received a call, we can't do your alignment. We can't loosened the bolts on your tie rod ends. I said I just replaced those yesterday. He said No, not the inner ones. The bolts are seized up. We can't loosen them. I said so you are telling me you don't have the tools and equipment you need to do the type of work you do. I know its not the first time you've run into seized bolts. Well ma'am the bolts will need to be heated to try to loosen them, and we just don't do that. I said I see what your getting at. If I told you to replace those 2 tie rods ends you would be able to do that. Well, yes ma'am. Don't lay another finger on my car except to pull it back in the parking lot and leave it alone!!! When I went after my car and keys. I received a piece of paper with recommendations of... Replace inner tie rod ends, replace rear bolts(?). Oh and sub frame is bent needs to go to a frame shop. What??!!!!! In 25 years I haven given this Pepboys an opportunity to do repairs. I allowed them to do the first repair and regretted it. It stalled a block away. Was actually running when I took it in. Gave them another chance many years later. They started talking you will need this and that etc etc before looking at it. I didn't let them touch it! Then today. I believe the only thing they are trained in is how to try to rob people blind!! Well I'm a female, I'm still much smarter than that!!! I hope you are too. Not one person here knows what they are talking about. I came in for an oil change on my diesel Jetta. "Service advisor" told me what oil he recommended and I told him that it was a diesel. He still tried recommending that oil for me even though it was their generic oil for gasoline cars. I went in the back to where the oil is for purchase and brought up the oil I wanted in my car. I thought everything was fine and dandy until I got my bill and they still put the wrong oil in. Told them about it right away and it took them over an hour to drop the wrong oil in the car and put the new(correct and what I asked for) oil in. Never again will I come to this place. I made my appointment online for 2:30 on Sunday. Sunday was Easter. I was bummed about having car issues and on holidays I typically give sandwiches to the homeless and Easter is no exception. I was excited to get my car all figured out and then go out to help! I didn't want to drive my car until I could figure out what was wrong with it. The previous day it had started making noises and smelling of burning rubber so I figured it was either a belt or the breaks. I walked in and told the lady there I was there for my 2:30 appointment and she pulled it up. Instantly she said she was not going to be able to help me because they did not have parts and weren't able to get them. They didn't even look at my car. Not to mention if they didn't have parts and she knew from looking at my appointment that she couldn't help me - why did they have me drive my car 30 minutes when it's having issues instead of calling and canceling my appointment. Besides that, the next day I went to a different pep boys and it turned out my car didn't even need new parts to fix it. But of course since this location didn't even take a look at my car before telling me they couldn't help me, they wouldn't have known that. So not only did I not get service, I also didn't get to give sandwiches to the homeless on Easter. Customer Service 0 We had our car break down about a month ago outside Lafayette, IN. It was Sunday at 5, and the only mechanic still open was Pep Boys. Turns out the alternator was bad and had to be replaced. The staff on duty was efficient, informative and friendly. One month later----the van is making a whining noise that is commonly associated with alternator issues. I called into our local Pep Boys and was told to bring the van in for inspection. Not the most pleasant of phone manners, but nothing out of the ordinary. When I come into the facility, I deal with an individual named Michael. Michael proceeds to question me as to why I would think there would be a problem with the alternator. I explained that we had recently been to both Goodyear and a muffler facility, and both places had indicated there might be a problem with the alternator. At that point, Michael advise me that they would indeed inspect the alternator, but it would cost me $16, which would, of course, be refunded if there turned out to be a problem. Later that day, I called in to find out the status of the van, and Michael advised that in fact the alternator was bad and they would have to replace it. He told me they would have to order a new one, and he was not sure whether it would get there in time to complete the work on Saturday or Sunday morning. That was the last I heard . I had to call back Saturday night in order to find out that, in fact, my van would not be ready until Sunday morning. When I finally received a call at approximately noon on Sunday, I went in to retrieve my van. When I went in, I received my key and a receipt. At no point, did I ever receive an explanation or an apology. When I try to bring up the lack of customer service to Michael, I was interrupted and told I was wrong. When I told him that I planned on communicating this issue to his manager, his only response was to insist that I spell his name correctly. So, here it is, M I C H A E L. I understand things can go wrong. However, at any point, Michael could have provided the customer service necessary to alleviate this customer's frustration with having to deal with a problem created by his company. Instead, I got the opposite. Pep Boys maybe the most awesome automotive service company out there. I will never return thanks to M I C H A E L. read more

Whats the point in scheduling an appointment if when you get there you still have to wait an hour and a half before they even look at your car?!? Also called for pricing on new brake pads all the way around and I was quoted $240 per axel! The car just has over 40k miles on it! Unfortunately an hour and a half later my jeep hadn't even been taken to the back. I expressed my frustrations for the wait time to an attendant, Theo. Theo was very respectful and took the time to listen to our frustrations even though he obviously was busy. I took my vehicle there to have an engine gasket replaced. They did that but I was charged for services they DID NOT perform! It was easy to spot. The oil and filter were to be changed. Nope! Same old oil. Same old oil filter. I know how to check these things. While I did get the money refunded for that ($31+), they were not too concerned about the fraud which was perpetrated. The next week I decided to clean the engine so I could monitor for oil leaks given their questionable actions. I discovered a plastic hose connector to the air filter had been broken and GLUED back together. It was obviously new damage as it was clean and shiny where the epoxy was applied. Everything else was dirty. It was something that had to be removed for the gasket replacement I first mentioned. SO - they BROKE A PART TO MY ENGINE AND THEN GLUED IT instead of replacing. Plus - the glue didn't hold. After contacting them and never getting a call back I had to reglue the part myself - much better - and reported the incidents to the BBB - they are not even a registered corporation, naturally. BE WARNED. You will get robbed by these persons. Getting tires rotated? Mark them somehow so they can't alter the marks, be sure each tire mark is unique, take photos before you leave the vehicle, maybe with a newspaper in each pic for the date or do a time/date stamp. And you can then verify they actually did the service. read more

For auto work, I try to go to local shop, but as the 4 places I tried said they didn't do alignments I decided to give Pep Boys a try for an oil/filter change and tire/steering alignment. I dropped my car off a little before 9, was called over around 20 minutes later to discuss my tires that I ended up replacing after they did the general car inspection. My car did not get into the shop until after 9:30 which was a little frustrating but I believe the person that checked my in and then checked my car was new so he was still learning so I was patient. I stayed at PepBoys for the duration of the work and they had free wifi so yay! My car was finished a little before 11, so the actual time working on the car was standard for all I had done. The pricing seemed fair compared to other work I have had done. I have been to a few car places in the past that speak to me differently because I am a woman but each person I dealt with was friendly and spoke to me like any other person. I would be very willing to return here for future work on my car. read more
