However, after speaking with customer service 5 times and asking to talk with the legal, compliance, and or senior management about this issue without resolution. I think it's time to realize your company's policy with making things right. I brought my Suzuki in for an oil change in January 2013. As of June 2013, I am having a second oil change because the oil filter was not installed properly and leaked. Now that I have the experience of speaking with a competent mechanic, I realize how poorly I was treated at Pep Boys. Their website says "our car repair experts take the time to speak with you and fully understand the issue before ever even looking at your vehicle." They took my keys, told me to come back in half an hour, and charged me $120. They also broke the latch on my hood and didn't fix it, just gave me a broken spring and told me that they put a zip tie on it, don't drive on the highway until you get it fixed. Unfortunately, I can only review the customer service. On military leave during the holidays, my tire pressure sensor was going off. After discovering that my tires are filled with Nitrogen I called National Tire and Battery who said they did not have Nitrogen fill capability, but would be glad to find someone for me who would. They referred me to Pep Boys on Milwaukee. Called Pep Boys and spoke to an individual named Joe. Joe said they do not have nitrogen fill capability and he doesn't know where to go. Here I am asking myself: "they've never been asked this question before? They also just say 'sorry, bye'?" Without losing professionalism I asked something along the lines of, could you point me in the right direction? Joe then changed the tone of his voice to something you sound like if you just found out you owe taxes on April 15th and said, again, along the same lines of "I already told you, I don't know where you can go". Lack of reference for services unprovided, and even borderline unprofessional. I know not everyone can be military professional, but customs and courtesies should be second nature in a public workplace. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. I mean horrible. The staff is very rude and does not all agree or align in terms of what they offer. They fixed tires on my car and when something went wrong within a few weeks they basically said it is not their problem and we would have to pay full price. We also asked them to help us out with a flat and after waiting two hours they said it can not be done and we would need a new tire. We went to another place the next day and they fixed the tire immediately. They lie so they can get more money out of you and do not care about you or your car issues. If you're looking to come in 3-4 times just to get alignment done, this is your place. They got my alignment wrong twice in just 3 weeks. When I came in the third time they told me that I customized my car before I brought it in the second time and that's why it was off. I didn't realize rotating my tires (which is recommended) was considered customizing. When I came in the third time, they failed to tell me why it was off again if I didn't even do anything in between the two visits; I barely even drove. He finished with a rude snarky remark. I'll update this review when they actually get it finished, which shouldn't take a good 4-5 hours at the least. Do yourself a favor, drive across the street to Sears and get it done for the same price with people who were trained properly to do their JOB. read more

False advertising when they say they offer free alignment checks and tire rotation!! All lies!!

Summary Their store manager, Martin at Pep Boys may not honor their commitment to installing new tires for your car even though they have all of the information prior to the work starting and you have a written contract with Pep Boys to complete the work. They may damage your rims, tires, and deny any wrongdoing. When you escalate the issues to Pep Boys' customer service representatives, they will record the information as Danielle did, but their senior management, Chris the Area Vice President at Pep Boys will not amicably, timely, compensate or repair the damage Pep Boys caused not to mention the time wasted to attempt to resolve the problems. The tires on my car required a reverse mounting installation. The procedure used by the professional installers at Pep Boys attempted to install the tires backward, as the pictures attached will highlight scratches inside the rim and underneath, on the side, and on the face of the rim. The damage to the inside and underneath and side of the rim cannot be damaged by any driver hitting a curb, etc. The tires have a rim protective molding that makes damaging the side of the rim very difficult and no person has access to the inside of the rim. However, as the picture of the tire machine with the "little metal shovel" that is used to remove tires shows this instrument has direct contact with the alloy rim of the tires and if used improperly could easily cause damage. This level of information was shared with me when I discussed the problems experienced at Pep Boys with another company manager and professional tire installer. This was a lack of training and experience by the installer and management at Pep Boys that resulted in damaging the rims and tires. Pep Boys does not expect you to have this level of knowledge, as the Area Vice President said how could Pep Boys have damaged the rims? I was lucky to find another honest company to help educate me and why I wanted to share this information with all potential Pep Boys customers. This is a company that originated in 1926 and has 1000 store locations with 9,000 service bays in the US and Puerto Rico but I recommend going to Firestone, NTB, and other competitors. Tried to make an appointment for friday on a thursday afternoon and they said that they were full for friday but, the guy said "there is an opening on Saturday at 8 am?" So made an appointment for a brake noise to be looked at, dropped off the car at 8 am saturday. DIDN'T get the car back after 5pm. Why do they take customers and cannot do the job within a certain time. it does take that long to do rear brake resurfacing and pads changed. I usually am wary when it comes to any kind of auto place but I had the most pleasant experience here. I scheduled an appointment for my car's AC to be checked/fixed because it suddenly stopped working. I was greeted by very friendly staff and very eager to help. An associate by the name of Sully really made my day. He went out of his way to help me and answer any questions that I may have had. He assured me that they would do their best to help me. If I could give this place a zero I would. I went to the one on Milwaukee. I came in for an oil change and because I had waited too long my car was starting to overheat. I knew once the oil was in, it would be fine. I explained this to the man who came out to look at it and he goes, "No we can't help you. It's a liability if we do." WHAT. Then told me I would have to go to the Mazda dealership for them to help me. Does this man know anything? I called my friend who is a mechanic and he said that's the stupidest thing he's ever heard and they shouldn't have turned me away. I've been having tire issues on my car since I got it..(I drive a lot for work and I always seem to somehow get a flat tire) and the team here is always so helpful to ensure that my car is safe and ready to drive. Worst experience!!! Scheduled the appointment online, i bought 4 tires from you guys and installation. I got an appointment at 3pm. Chris S. said "it will be about 2 hrs. I call you." Came at 6pm , this car still sitting where i left it. The guy in the front desk he was nice. He said I'll have it ready by 7pm. It's 7:27 and they just pulled this car in.. you have to be kidding me. 7:45 just finished. So you can do this job in less the 20 min. A waste of my day. I get you guys have a lot of work. I would of just bought the tires and would have gotten them installed somewhere else. A simple we can't do it today or even a we can do this tomorrow. I've been going to my mechanic in Glenview for as long as I have owned a car, but there are times when he just can't get me in and I need something done ASAP, this is where I decided to give Pep Boys a shot and I am very pleased I did. I have been to the Pep Boys on Milwaukee and Greenwood in Niles 2 times now. The first visit was for new rear calipers on my Jetta TDI. I called on a Wednesday, was able to get an appointment for that Saturday at 8am. Joe ordered the parts and the synthetic oil I needed for an oil change, and 3 hours later my car was finished. The shop is clean, the management/employees are all very kind an friendly and easy to talk to. My second visit to Pep Boys Niles I got a new set of tires mounted and balance that I bought through Tire Rack and brought to them in the back of my car. In 90 minutes Joe and the gang had them mounted and balance and all for under $100. Pep Boys Niles gets my vote. I'll still go to my long-time mechanic in Glenview, but for all the incidental needs, Pep Boys is my emergency Go-To. And for everyone who commented they had a negative experience, they must have caught Pep Boys on an off day because Joe and his team do an outstanding job, quickly, at a fair price. read more

Been to pepboys locations before but this one is different. Came in at 4pm and no wait. Got my van right in for an oil change. They had the vehicle in and on the lift within 5 minutes. Not only that but they were actually working on it (other locations I've seen them take a vehicle in and it sits on the lift not being worked on for an hour). Waiting area was nice.....full pot of coffee and the cleanest bathroom I've ever seen. Screw jiffy lube. 19.95 for an oil change can't be beat (coupon in their weekly or monthly ad) read more

There are a few times when you find yourself in a bind. This Pepboys saved the day. Had a flat tire on front wheel and donut wheel on Labor Day, and this was the only location open. I came in thinking that I need my back brakes replaced and I was greeted by the manager, Dennis whom remembered me from a prior visit. This was a good feeling as I was searching for a replacement shop for Sears Auto which was very convenient. I was even more impressed with the honesty of the team as the mechanic indicated that I still had half life on my back breaks and that I should wait on that. They did make a recommendation to replace my front tires, which I will do on my next visit as they didnt have them in stock. They did notice that my headlight was out so I had them replace that for me. I'm glad that I found a honest auto service shop as late last year, Sears Auto told me that I needed to replace by breaks. read more

Took my car for a scheduled oil change. I have no idea if they even changed my oil. They completed it in under 15 minutes, no new filter, no window washer cleaner, and no tire rotation. Joe the Manager and Terry the technician were very professional and took care of the problem promptly. Terry tightened a loose clamp and toped off my radiator reservoir and I was on my way. Thought we'd give these guys another chance - since they're right down the street from us - after having a good experience @ the Pep Boys in Skokie. Unfortunately, it was yet another bad experience. The light on the dashboard of my son's car went out. Simple fix; just needs the fuse replaced. He stops @ this Pep Boys location. They give him some BS story about needing time to run diagnostics on his car to see what the problem is and tell him he needs an appointment. Really??? Lousiest customer care I've ever experienced. Needed new tires to be installed along with an alignment, not only did they take 5 hours to do so but when I exited the lot, I found my car steering to the right harder than it was before. Upon going back the mechanic which handled the labor was annoyed that I came back and told him to take a ride with me so that he can see the job he did. I needed my rear brakes fixed, and my usual mechanic was down to one extra guy for the week, he was on vacation, so I was scrambling to find a place that wasn't going to charge me an arm & a leg, and get the job done correctly. I went to one establishment after i had called to ensure I could get in. I expected to wait upwards of two hours for the job to be completed and was told once I arrived that it would be 2 hours before anyone could get to me. UGH. So I called Pep Boys and a very friendly tech named Chris answered and I explained my dilemma to him. Chris put me on a very brief and asked how soon I could arrive. I explained that I was literally less than a minute away, and he quoted me a fair out the door price. I walked in, Chris asked if I was the person that had just called, and I replied that I was. He asked for my keys and got some information from my truck and after signing the estimate he told me to have a seat and that he would have me out the door as soon as he could. I went a few doors down and grabbed a sandwich, came back and waited approximately 45 minutes and my truck was done, before the allotted time that he said. It had been over a week now since the brakes have been done and I am very satisfied, not only with the work, but the pleasantness of the entire experience from the initial phone call to job performed. If I could give 0 stars I would. I dropped my uncles car off overnight Friday 3/17 thinking it would be ready by the end of the business day 3/18. I was supplying the power steering pump, which I dropped off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. I go about my day thinking my uncles car was being worked on and we'd pick it up later. I got a call from Chris at 4:50 saying that the car wouldn't be fixed that day because the tech had an emergency and wouldn't be back till Tuesday! They close at 6 p.m. not a whole lot of time to look for another shop on a Saturday. I want even afforded the opportunity to reach out to another Pepboys. No apology. Nothing.
