They had me sit around for an hour and a half just to tell me they don't have the part I needed, but that it would be a 10 minute fix once they got it. I tried to ask why they waited so long to tell me that and the guy at the counter just said he didn't want to assume I wanted the part ordered ... guess he thought I was just hanging out. I brought my van in with a blown tire. The mechanic Mr.Shah and another man Dennis were very nice and I give them 5 stars for how well they explained the problem and made sure I knew what I needed and how Mr.Shah would fix the tire. However, when speaking to the manager Ben, he tries to oversell me. He even went into my glove box without my permission and checked all the filters. I find this a breach of privacy but he claims its their policy and what always is done. He then proceeds to say I need all these other services and will not stop trying to rip me off. I end up taking my car out of the shop. I applaud the actual workers at this shop, but the manager, not just from my point, but many of these other reviews, needs to be changed or needs to treat the customers right and not rip them off. read more

If I could give a 0 i would. The new manager Ben tries to oversell me on the work my car actually needed to be done. I came in for a simple oil change and tire rotation, but Ben tries to sell my on filters, breaks, and an alignment. I know I did not need any of these things, so I went along with Ben and he does not stop trying to sell. He keeps pushing me to get these issues "fixed" until I finally decide to walk out and let him know that he cannot keep taking advantage of customers. I used to go to this Pepboys when the old manager was there, Steve, and he always did right by me. I will not be coming back to this location as long as Ben is in charge. read more

Their website advertises free scans for check engine lights. I called to ask if I could come in and they said not today but maybe tomorrow and I should call again. I called a couple days later and they said theyre too busy now but I should call after lunch. I called Autozone by Golf Mill Mall and they said I could go there anytime. I went and they scanned the CEL in less than 5 minutes. I will be completely avoiding this Pep Boys and I'm surprised corporate is unaware of their terrible service and attitude. read more

I brought my car into this Pepboys in early January because it had overheated. I was told that the thermostat was the problem and was charged $175 for the generic replacement. Fast forward a few weeks and my car overheats again. I brought it back because the replacement thermostat had a warranty. They swapped it for an oem. Fast forward another few weeks and my car doesn't have heat. It's Chicago, it's winter, heat is a necessity. I turned on the blower and air nearly as cold as outside blows out. I'm on the expressway and the car overheats. I have to pay $137 for a tow, wait 2.5 hours and then leave it at PepBoys for them to look at the next day because by that time it's 3:45 and they close at 4. I get it back and again the thermostat is wonky. It read that my car was cold for my entire 45 minute drive to work. Unbelievable. I didn't even bother trying the heat and instead used a blanket because I worried that the car would overheat yet again. I dropped it off at pepboys AGAIN and they worked on it the next day. I was told "The thermostat is fine, the radiator is fine, the heater core is fine." So I'm crazy and unable to comprehend a Hot and Cold gauge? After that I decided taking my car to another shop was a must. No one should have the patience or time to keep dealing with "nothing is wrong" knowing that there is something wrong. The other shop found a clog in my radiator. It needed to be replaced. The replacement cost $290. $290 is not fine, nor is the $175 for the thermostat, they're both far from it. I wouldn't recommend this place for any maintenance or repairs. If they would have taken the time or had the right tools the first time I brought it to them in January I wouldn't have gotten my car back from the other shop YESTERDAY $465 poorer. read more

I had a flat tire on my Acura so I pulled in to a gas station for help and the attendant said he did not know how to change the tire but recommended me to the Pep Boys down the street from where I was at. I pulled in a few minutes after closing which said 7:00pm on the front door and was greeted by Jim who told me he would fix the tire and "Get me back on the road to where ever I was going". Long story short. A month ago I had a flat and the rest of my tires were in bad shape. I decided to buy 4 brand new tires and get it over with. I work near this pepboys so I decided to come here. Big Mistake. When I arrived and got a quote, Martin who's the manager was polite and even offered free coffee while I waited. Short wait , Good price I though of giving this place 5 stars but that all changed today. I bought the tires on 8/21/14 today 9/20/14 I noticed one of the tires was losing air. I took it my local pepboys they told me it had a rupture on top and that it couldn't be fixed it needed to be replaced. They then looked at the paper work from when I purchased the tires. The tires did not have a warranty on them and the manufacturers warranty wouldn't cover it. The employee of my local pepboys told me to call Martin from the pepboys at Niles since in the paper work he didn't offer me an extended warranty. The paper work does not show that it was offered or that I declined it. I was not offered this extended warranty. I call Martin and explain to him my situation. He then tells me he remembers the exact conversation (from a month ago)and that I denied the warranty. He tells me the damage to my tire was because of my "neglect" and that it's my fault. (without knowing me or my driving habits)He then tells me the low price of my tires was because he removed the extended warranty (without telling me) and that best he do for me was "sell me another tire" Unbelievable I hanged up immediately. I was tired of being yelled it and I really didn't want to argue with this scum bag anymore. All the employees at my local pepboys told me he was the one that made a mistake, and helped me fix my tire at a good price. You'll only be treated with respect here before you give them your money afterwards you're screwed. read more

Had trouble after work when the car made a loud noise and electric warning lights came on. I could quickly tell the alternator serpantine belt was off. Called the Sears Automotive and they could not even answer the phone. Called PepBoys and they answered right away and could provide help right away. I know I could safely drive a few blocks and got there ok. They looked at it right away and showed me it was much more serious. The drive wheel for this belt has literally fallen off. The mechanic explained how it worked. The belt was in stock just fine, but this part would take more time to locate. They attempted to locate a part within a mile so it could be fixed within 1 hour and I could drive home. But alas, the part was not nearby - no surprise. It may have been at the dealer, but the price is always double at the dealer and I know this. So it had to sit overnight and I was able to arrange another ride home. The manager was willing to give me a ride, but he had something else scheduled. I arranged other rides and picked up the car the next day. They even worked some special pricing to help. I worked with Chris - the supervisor and Shah the mechanic. They were very helpful to explain everything and try to get it fixed during the first 2 hours. I appreciated the extra effort. in the end, the car was fixed in a reasonable time for a reasonable price. read more

On January 20, 2014, I scheduled a 5:00 pm appointment for an oil change. When I arrived for the appointment at 4:50 pm, I was told that they were too busy to change the oil. I stated that I had an appointment, that this was not just an unscheduled walk-in. I was told that it didn't matter, he was too busy. I asked the point of arranging an appointment, if it was not to be honored. Too bad, nothing he could do. Come back another time. I asked for the manager, he said he was the manager; if I had a complaint, I could call the 800 number. Come back another time? Call the 800 umber? No sir, you only get to waste my time once. Anyone that values their time, makes appointments, and appreciates courtesy and makes intelligent choices will not be patronizing your facility. I have had three weeks to consider this post; so, this is thought out and not a knee-jerk reaction. Two VERY strong thumbs down. One can only believe that this is representative all the Pep Boys locations; and, reflection of their corporate culture, or mismanagement in hiring and training. read more
