After giving this particular Pep Boys location quite a bit of business I came in for an oil change one afternoon and was told I had a nail in the shoulder of my tire. The mechanic told me that the shoulder can't be patched (true) and that I'd need a complete set of new tires (arguable). I was shown the nice, shiny, pristine nail head sticking out of my tire. Fortunately I had road hazard coverage on that set of tires. I drove down the block to the tire shop, where the manager removed the "nail" with his fingers ... it was a roofing tack with maybe a 3/8" shank. I got the impression that the tire shop guys had seen lots of roofing tacks. Draw your own conclusions. read more

I have had my daughter's car serviced here since she bought it almost a year ago. It was a well used 1989 model car, but thanks to the patience and attention this store has given it she now has a good and reliable car. The Service Manager, Efren, and associates Nolan and Brandon have been helpful and done great service work on a car which needed it. They made one service mistake and replaced the starter, but immediately assumed all responsibility for their error and refunded the cost of the repair as well as finding the real problem (ignition switch) and fixing that. Their master mechanic diagnosed a problem with the timing belt which was making the car run rough. So far they have done engine work, transmission mount, transmission oil pan leak fixed, brakes replaced. new battery, oil changes and a replacement of the ignition switch. They honor the military by offering active duty military discounts and they are great about letting me know what is needed and how much it will cost. I have given them a great review because they deserve it. They work on all cars and considering how old this car is they have been very good about finding parts and getting the work done as quickly as possible. read more

I am guessing this is hit and miss depending on who the manager is. I took my vehicle in for service, was there MUCH longer than expected, paid WAY more than I had intended. After taking the vehicle home, noticed a fluid leak, and called to ask about it, and the service manager who spoke with me was extremely short, and rude. I opted not to go back and take it elsewhere after this. I don't think they caused the leak, but I can't believe they didn't check this fluid (which they were supposed to do) and notice the faulty line and leak. I went to get my oil changed, the "mechanic" called after 15 minutes to tell me they couldn't do it because the oil level was so low it wouldn't register on my dipstick. I was surprized because there was no evidence of an oil leak, no "idiot light" had come on and I was not over due on my oil change. When I went back to get my car, a kid was parking my car in the lot. I walked up and held out my hand for the keys and he just handed them to me and walked away! No ID check or anything. i opened my hood to check my oil and another individual came up and said "oh by the way, you need to replace your water cap" then walked away. I checked my oil, which registered just fine on the stick, got into my car and drove to Jiffy Lube. They changed my oil and noted on my paperwork that the oil pan bolt was loose upon drop off... read more

Because everyone deserves a second chance- I wrote a poor review a few years ago. Through miscommunication on mine and theirs. I brought them an older BMW, and as you may know, those cars are a pain to work on and may need specialized diagnostics. I brought them a Honda Del Sol yesterday, and had a timing belt, power steering return line, water pump, and all belts and hoses. That's a BIG job. They were fast, clean, and courteous and repaired the car by the end of the day. After bringing my vehicles to no name garages the past few years, I learned-YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Pep boys has a great inventory of parts, and will get the ones you need (quality) very fast if they don't have them. Also, I took note of seeing the same mechanics as I did a few years back-that's a GOOD thing, meaning they have experience and the shop has a low turnover rate. I had contact this place because the "check engine light" came on. I spoke to a guy name Alejandro and asked how much was it to diagnose the problem. He gave me a price of $85.99 and stated that I should make an appointment cause he only has two techs that can do the job (Alex and Bryan). When I asked him why. he said that the others aren't qualified for the job. I asked how long is the estimated time for this test, his response was quite awhile. Wow! only 2 techs qualified and the wait! OMG! I only have 1 car and I needed it done like now. So I inquired else where. read more

Took too long to find the issue with my car and I had to keep constantly calling them to get any thing done at all. I had to take my car here because it was a Saturday evening around 6 PM and they are the only place open. After getting a tow truck there, it was only about 30 minutes before they closed. Them trying to assist me before they closed and seeing if it was a minor problem was the only positive I can give. With the time of day I knew my car would have to be there overnight, which I was fine with. They said they would give me a call when they find the issue and they open at 9 AM. I waited until 11 AM and I was told the tech is "just looking at my car" and it will be about an hour. 2 PM, call again and I am told "It will be about 10 more minutes". I receive a call at 3 PM saying the problem is my battery. REALLY, it took 5 hours to find that out? At this point I am saying at least it could be worse. I am told it will take about 15 more minutes to put the battery in and they will call me back. 4 PM...an hour later I am told the tech is JUST putting my battery in. At this point I got a ride there up there because they close at 6 PM. I need my car. After paying for the battery and having they THEN tell me "Well the battery is not the problem. It was dead, so it was needed, but in order to fix the car you need a fuel pump" I was then quoted $800 for the battery and fuel pump. I asked what condition the car is in and I could drive it, but had to pump gas to start. It was good enough to get home and take to my regular mechanic who fixed the problem for about $135 less because the problem was the fuel pressure regulator, not the entire pump. In conclusion, I do not like that they took their sweet time with my car that was there technically the night before. If I did not call them constantly and THEN went to make sure they were working on it., it may have been there another day. Then to make matters worse, what they found wasn't the issue. What if I would have paid what they asked? I would still need to get something fixed. Pep Boys for parts? Sure. Looking for them to do any type of maintenance? Never. read more

I have been a customer at this location for at least 4 years, maybe longer. I am surprised at the negative reviews. I have never had a bad experience here. I feel Pep Boys is honest and will not give you the run round I have experienced at the Honda Dealership I use to bring my car to. I actually left the dealership because I knew they were trying to up sell me. I brought my Honda to Pep Boys to test my transmission, and there was nothing wrong with it! I have never been anywhere else since! Jesse is great as well as the rest of the staff. They always offer their most current coupons, even when you don't ask. (I always ask tho)! I even come to this location for major repairs. I trust them and highly recommend them. Like anywhere else, make an appointment. I am not one that gets crazy over the time it takes to get the work done. I would rather be safe than sorry. I plan when I am bringing my car so I don't have to worry about waiting for it. Stopped going here about 5 years ago. I finally decided to give pepboys another chance. Went on line ordered something to be picked up in the store the website said would be there the next day. Went in the next day after not receiving any confirmation that the had my product. Guess what they didn't have it. I can explain the whole thing but it's now 2 days and I now have to drive 20 miles to another store to pick up the item that never made to my local store. Let's cross my fingers if it there in the morning. I have worked 20 years in retail with online business with pickup In store process and my 16yrold employees could have handled this better. This review will fall on deaf ears or they will pay to remove(just like my letter did 5 yrs ago). My money will go back to the three auto stores I have to pass on the way to pepboys. read more

They checked every possible option until they found out what was wrong and even went into the store to get the parts I needed so I didn't have to. Repair head gasket and water pump replacement: This pep boys location----potential customers--- please read this super long review. Went to drive up service on a tuesday. Told serviceman i have a loss of power when i drive so pep boys did some troubleshooting, turns out i have a blown head gasket. Serviceman says it will be ready in four days that lands on a saturday. ok cool. Come saturday, they said the head gasket valves weren't seating properly-need new two new ones ($290 a piece) wont arrive until tuesday. Understandable. Serviceman says we can complete it once we receive the valves which will be on a tuesday. no problem. Come tuesday, got the head valves but head gasket wont be in bcuz its still in the machine shop. HUH? Serviceman said it will be ready wednesday. okay do what you gotta do. Come wednesday, head gasket is still in machine shop and serviceman says it will be ready thursday. Come thursday, serviceman says we got your head gasket back but the mechanic who works on your car is off today (thursday) and tomorrow. it will be ready saturday. no problem, i would only want the best man for the job. Come saturday, head gasket "repair" is finished but now the serviceman recommends a water pump replacement and can do it all the same day. shoot that sounds good. Come saturday afternoon, i call them due to impatience it turns out some bolt gets stuck somewhere and it took all day to get it out. and the finishing touch wont be completed until monday...im shaking my head at this point thinking: pep boys are dickin around like pep girls, not caring about the customer and just speculating some shady stuff. i understand the pressure of maintenance windows but damn just tell me a specific day so i dont have to be disappointed EVERYTIME. So come monday NIGHT, the car is finally ""completed"" and i come in to pay $2247 for head gasket, water pump and some other needed stuff....IT does not end there. Come thursday, (THREE days later) im driving to the airport on the freeway with my two kids and wife and my check engine light starts blinking. and my rpm starts going all crazy and the whole engine starts vibrating. and then a sudden lost of power. i finally pull over-after all the trouble strength my car was trying to put out, i come to see my oil dipstick is COMPLETELY DRY and NOTHING was leaking. Let alone the tech broke the dipstick handle. I cant believe Pep girls forgot to put oil in my engine!?? i wait two weeks for this!!? plus it cost my company $500 to change my flight. WOW. all bcuz one tech oops i meant pep boys forgot to put oil in my engine. a simple mistake can be a fatal result. and i still dont know if the empty oil tank was the cause. i am a very disappointed/super frustrated customer and would not recommend this location to anyone. Looked up the reviews for pep boys in so-cal ALL OF THEM SUCK. Pep boys put my family at risk. GM told me on monday afternoon that my car is safe to drive...Three days later my whole family of four could of been in a fatal situation. read more

Nothing like a good waste of my sunday time , I made an appointment to drop off my car at 10 AM to replace with new tires , I told the service desk I'll be back at 1 pm and I was told it should be ready by then , came back at 1:40 pm and noticed my car hasn't moved an inch , inquired about it with the service desk and the guy told me he only has one guy today ,and my question was " why do you take more than your work capacity ?" and his answer was " SORRY" .. really ???? that's it . you promised it'll be finished , and I have gone through making appointment and selecting the tires way ahead of time , and all you say is " SORRY" . so who's going to pay for my 3 1/2 hours that I wasted ? pure Pep "Little" Boys work , pure unprofessional. Never going back to this location again. After making my original appointment online, I called to confirm and was told that the internet was wrong and I couldn't make an appointment there but would I like to make one for the following day, which, I accepted. The next morning I brought in my car and was told that there would be quite a wait. I had an interview at 1pm so I decided to reschedule the appointment again for the following day at 9am. Brought the car in again today and was told there were two other cars in front of mine but it shouldn't take very long. The interview went very well so I had a second scheduled for 2pm but I figured I'd have plenty of time to make it. By noon I hadn't heard anything so I called and was told they were really backed up, it was just one other car that was giving them trouble. I called again at 3:30 and was told they were just then bringing it back to work on it! Not only can I not afford the new brakes they're putting on my car but they may have just lost me the opportunity for a great job that I desperately need. Are they going to pay my rent next month?? I can't believe I still have to pay them for this poor service. 7 hours and still waiting... read more

Do not bring your car to this shop. I brought my car to this shop to have them check out the clutch and the warning light which came on after the car shut off on me. The manager wrote me up and said: "I will write this up as a front end inspection, to save you money". I thought that was pretty nice of him... I should have known better... I get a call 3 hours later saying they checked it, nothing wrong with the car. I am happy to give them the 20 bucks for a "front end inspection". I start the car and the light is still on. I walk back in informing them that the problem has not been resolved. The answer I get is: "oh we didn't check that, the manager wrote you up as a front end inspection. what you need is an advanced engine diagnostic ($90)." I give the go ahead and they call me around 2 hours later saying: Fuel-pump assembly ($357.56) and labor 105. Again i give the go ahead. I stop by the next day to check if my car is ready. Yeah sure, it was ready last night. I did not receive a call. all the service guy said was "that is strange". so I fork over 597 and some change, bringing my total to 617+change. I drive off thinking everything is fixed. As i drive on the freeway, I loose all power, and have to stop the car. Same problem still no solution. I get myself towed to the shop, and (730pm) i am told they have to keep it over night, but it will have top priority and will be the first car in the following day. I check the next day at 11am (they open at 8) and ask about the status. I get a blank stare and am told that the mechanic is working on another car right now... moral of the story? Don't go there and save a headache!!! read more

Pep Boys and their team have always been great to me both when buying parts and servicing my vehicle. However, I became aware of a big issue involving my oil pan when I took my vehicle to another shop to get the oil changed. The threading for the plug on the oil pan was completely stripped and the mechanic who worked on it before at Pep Boys had Teflon around the plug to hold it in. I brought it back to Pep Boys and worked with Jorge (Service Manager) and Angelo who were EXCELLENT to me. I explained that my car had only been serviced by their team the past 2-3 times I got it worked on and that no problem had ever been mentioned to me. Angelo was extremely professional and searched diligently to find the parts I needed. With that being said, the team apologized for the incident and completely took care of replacing the oil pan. I commend both Angelo and Jorge for their professionalism and willingness to hear out concerns customers may have. read more
