I went to Pep Boys after having AAA Service jump start me and tell me I had a starter problem. Even though they weren't taking any new business (5 p.m. on a day they close t 6 p.m.), Edgardo took a look at the car. He said that if it was a starter problem, a jump start wouldn't have gotten the car started. He said it was likely a battery issue, which he confirmed by the sound when I tried to start it up. He could have sold me a battery; but suggested since it was still under warranty, I should call AAA for them to bring a replacement. I did that and was underway in 30 minutes. I truly appreciated the honest advice Edgardo gave me, and would not hesitate to visit Pep Boys again should I need another auto repair. read more

Absolutely horrible service... went for a nail in my tire and wound up with 2 new tires in the back and when I drive off I noticed major instability in the front end. When I returned to speak to a manager, they said he's too busy. After taking about 30 seconds to look at my tires they came back and said there's nothing wrong with them. One of the others employees had conflicting info to share in saying they were the wrong tires. Manager too busy to talk. This was for my company fleet service. I am not one for reviews but after having bad luck with a previous car place who apparently installed my tire wrong today I found myself 30 min into my drive home when I was stranded with a flat tire again! 2 in 1 day. Pepboys is my number one go to for all car services. Professional, hardworking, courteous staff that has always been able to thoroughly answer all of my questions ( I am VERY skeptical about my car) while providing the best service possible. No gimmicks or scams. Earlier today, the gentleman at the front desk noticed I was about to pay before he added in my oil change coupon. He did not want me to get overcharged. He quickly stopped the transaction so my coupon could get added. Amazing customer service! They are busier on the weekends. Just needed a tire check up. I have a slow leak. I made the appointment online for the only time available. They called told me they cant do it because they didn't have enough employees. This sounds like management issue not my problem. Honor your appointments Pepboys, or remove them from online so people can make different plans. Don't allow people to make an appointment then call them up and tell them to reschedule and especially to reschedule for 2 days later. I was done. I decided to come here because they were open until 8pm, they had the tire size I needed, and there was a buy 3 get 1 free special. The past 2 times I've gotten my car serviced, they informed me my tires are pretty much bald. It's definitely time! Edgar took my 461 calls today. Answered all my questions, did not hustle me to buy the most expensive tires, and offered me other services but then said it looked like I may not need them. I asked about the tires I saw online and he confirmed they were in stock and were on sale. I was coming straight from work and informed him I was going to get there a few minutes after 8pm closing time. He waited!!!!!!!!!!! My experience at this Pep boys in Pasadena was HORRIFIC. I had an appointment at 1:30pm to get an oil change for my VW Golf TDI and the workers have no idea what they are doing. I was told by the manager ( Pedro ) that my car wasnt a diesel car but my car literally has the label TDI on the back and if u check where you pump the gas it says it only takes diesel. I have been waiting here for 3 hours to get an oil change done. RIDICULOUS. I complained to the manager (Pedro) & he told me that it was still going to take another hour or so because they're looking on youtube on how to find my oil filter. How do they have a job here if they cant even do a simple oil change that should only take 30-45 min? This is the WORST experience i've ever had with this Pep boys and I will not be coming back. read more

Do not purchase any tires from here. I bought 4 tires, installed, balanced and had the car aligned at the pep boys in Granada Hills. Great service at that location. This was 9 months ago and less than 10,000 miles. I was in Pasadena when my tire went flat. I went to a gas station, put air and took it to the pep boys in Pasadena. Three hours later, I called and they said nothing was wrong with my tire, it had no leaks. However, they claimed that it had side wall damage and I needed a new one. When I picked up my car, they could not tell me what was wrong with the tire, they said it was flat but had no explanation. The manager Michael said that he cannot do anything about that and refuse to warranty anything. He said to hurry up so that I can get out of there. I asked to see the old tire. Tire did not have any damage, no side wall damage. I feel that the tire was good and they just wanted to make a quick sell. Horrible. Never again will I go to pep boys. read more

Great Battery Buying Experience. I've typically not used Pep Boys, as I always had the dealer do the work on my car. I needed a specialty battery for an Audi and was assisted by Pedro and the store manager. They beat the dealer price by half with a battery of the same specifications. I saved some by purchasing online with the free install at the location. Really great service, they made sure I had the right battery for the vehicle at the right price. What more could you ask for? So at 5pm I call about getting Uber and Lyft vehicle inspections. After waiting 6 minutes on hold, the associate tells me they offer both, and it's $20, and I need to print out/bring in the blank forms. I ask: Do I need to schedule an appointment? No. What time do you close? 8pm. I say, "Great! I'll be there in about an hour." I happily arrive at 6:30 pm, after going home to print out the forms, and I'm told without explanation, "You'll have to come back tomorrow." I explain that I called in advance, and was offered only an apology. So frustrating. Because of the crazy amount of miles I put on my car, I'm often buying parts for maintenance and repairs. Employee said it would take 3 hours for an oil change even while they were busy. I made the appointment day before to assure a spot though luckily. I Once Was Bosch, But Now I'm Found Pep Boys? More like, Pep Angels! Just kidding. I don't believe in God. But if God did exist, he'd probably patronize this Pep Boys in Pasadena, because the employees here are as transparent and honest and helpful as they get. When the Bosch battery in my Volvo prematurely kicked the bucket, I visited a multitude of businesses in an effort to collect on the warranty. On every occasion, I was rebuffed on account of the fact that I did not possess proof of purchase (the Bosch battery was a gift from my dad, who hates me - which made the prospect of acquiring said proof of purchase a lost cause - sorry I didn't become an attorney, Dad). Anyway, just as I was on the brink of crashing my car into an old Oak tree, I decided to visit Pep Boys on Colorado, where I met Tony and Craig. "Hey, Craig," I said. "Life sucks. My battery died, and it's under warranty, but nobody will provide me with a new one." Within seconds, he lifted the battery from my grip - I felt ten pounds lighter. He then disappeared. Was he ever real? Am I real? Am I watching too much Mr. Robot? Craig appeared with a replacement - angelic, right? Seriously. It was. Never cracking my wallet, I signed on a dotted line and left with a receipt longer than the Magna Carta, which I clung to affectionately and then waved all around as I sauntered and sashayed through the parking lot, delivering for the vacant heavens a bonafide Olympic ribbon-dancing performance. Wow! Yelpers do not like this place at all. I'm glad I had a different experience from all the bad reviews. If anything, they need to work on their customer service skills and hire a counter person to keep up with the demand. I went in for an oil change and got a good deal for being a rewards member. I came in a hour later to pick up my car and everything was gravy. I begun going to pep boys because autozone was a joke but I really believe pep boys is the best choice of two evils. Order products online, they're cheaper. As far as services, what I went in for they did a good job. They even helped me with some CEL issues. All in all, there are consumers and then there are smart consumers. Do your research, be logical and being a mechanic is similar to being a doctor, they don't always get it right the first time. Oh, and thanks Ron for your help. The extra mile you went to help me out really showed me that I wasn't just another d-bag having a piss off day. Give that man a raise, he's patient and dedicated. I went to replace a headlamp on my car yesterday just as they were closing and Ron could not have been nicer or more helpful. He quickly replaced it and when I tried to give a tip he refused to accept it--with a smile! Just said he was happy to do it. Great service and friendly too. Couldn't ask for more. No, no, no, no. Don't stop here if you need any type of service. Long story short (as possible): I bought wheel locks here. They offered to install these wheel locks for no charge. Gee, thanks, right? Wrong. Several months later, when the dealer tried to remove the wheels for tire rotation, we all discovered that the 'Pep Boy' had stripped the lug nut @ the lock on each wheel. A free service cost me $200+, to get the stripped nuts replaced. The punch line? I had no recourse against Pep Boys, because I had no receipt for a "free service." So just don't. read more

Worst experience ever with huge disappointment I went to a pepboys pasadena branch to get engine oil changed. I usally check the procedure from the begining to the end, but I was on a phone call and could not see they lifting the car. And I found out they jacked the car up wrong... The jack up bar was touching the side skirts and they were bent because of the pressure. I complained to one of the guy and he said he will call the manager to talk about it. But the thing that shocked me the most was what he told me about it. He said it is normal to be like that, which was obviously not, and also pointed the lifted car next to it and said all the cars are lifted that way. He just said that side parts are made of plastic and supposed to bend and should come back to its original shape within an hour, or a day. He is partially right that the side skirts are made of elastic plastic and can endure certain amount of pressure... but the way they jacking up the care is still so wrong! And most importantly, and most annoyingly, it did damage on the paint of the parts and made a dent on one side. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE GUYS WHO DO NOT KNOW HOW TO LIFT CARS RIGHT !!! read more

A few days ago, I made an online appointment to have my shocks replaced. I showed up on time and waited in line behind a couple who were adding more services to their bill and therefore taking a while. There was one one person at the desk, and a line of about 4 people formed. This man kept assuring the couple that all of the services would be completed by the next day. When I finally got to the front, I said I was there for my 1 pm appointment, and the man at the desk said they were not "accepting any more jobs for the day". I said, "But I made an appointment." He said, "I don't have the labor". And he offered to get me in tomorrow, as if I'd ever go back! Does he know people aren't just waiting around all week to get their cars fixed? read more

This place is a joke: - Pepboys offers appointments thru their Web Site for their locations. I have done it twice and each time, I get something like "oh, there is 3 people in front of you, it'll take approximately 3 hours." Either they do not know what appointment means or they are trying to "Bate and Switch" - I'll leave the conclusion to you. - Although you bring a coupon in with a clear price, they refuse to tell you how much it'll cost in the end. You will have to sign an estimate that is much higher. When I discussed that with the manager, he told me "don't worry about it". Well, I told him to just overwrite the estimate and put a specific price on it and "not to worry about it". He got mad naturally, but did it. I left the car with a funny feeling. When I picked it up, naturally, they did want to change me higher than his overwrite - luckily I insisted before and a had a good base to fight for the promised price! read more

When I say WORST service!? Seriously, take your car somewhere else!! Where do I even begin... I will try to keep it succinct and simple. My car broke down, had it towed ab 5 miles to the nearest pepboys, that was automatically $50 when I learned that other locations charge $20 if its under 10 miles or something like that. Anyways... They straight up tell me the issue with my car and quote me $1600. Severely outrageous. He "talks" with the manager and gets me down to $1300. When I pick the car back up 3 days later (had to wait for parts to come in), my bill of course comes out to more than that. After refusing to pay anything more than $1300, I was finally given a reasonable price that included an additional $100 for a 1-year warranty so I made the purchase. Oh and let me not forget to mention when I just popped up to check on my car (because I didn't receive any call that my car was ready) my car had already been sitting in the parking lot for some time waiting for me to come pick it up. Later I learn that in the state of CA, mechanical repairs like that already come with a 1 year warranty! So that was a rip off. Not to mention that literally 7 days later, my car BREAKS DOWN again on the side of the road. Of course I'm pissed but I'm alright because I purchased the "1 year warranty". Or so I thought.. Take my car to another pepboys and they tell me my present issue has nothing to do with my previous issue (of course it doesn't -_-) so my warranty is no good, will not apply, and will cost me another $1,000. Take your car to ANOTHER SHOP PLEASE!! Anywhere else!! I have found someone who will do that job for half the price!!! You can too! read more

More expensive than a dealership, and they tried to pad their labor hours. My daughter who is 22 hit some debris on the road 300 miles from home and went to this Pep Boys to get her transmission pan replaced. The debris put a hole in the pan and the fluid leaked out. she had to be towed to the shop. The standard repair guides say it is a 2 hour job. They quoted her 3 hours. their shop labor rate is $119, compared to the dealership's $110 per hour. They also tried to tell her that the transmission would not shift and that would be more $$ (Of course it wouldn't shift, there was no transmission fluid... duh). Luckily the friend who was helping my daughter has a father who is a mechanic was able to get on the phone with the manager and call them on their sleazy sales tactics. They only billed for the 2 hours of labor, and they dropped the BS claim of a problem shifting. (Something they could have never diagnosed anyhow) This Pep Boys give all mechanics a bad rap by being so untrustworthy. If you are a young woman without mechanical knowledge they will try and take advantage of you. It is criminal what they tried to do to my daughter. Better to go to a dealership. It is cheaper and more trustworthy than Pep Boys. read more

Our car maintenance service here involved repeated neglect, missed promises and a little fraud cherry on top at the end. We brought my wife's car in to assess the cause of an unexpected "Check Engine Light" with no other symptoms. Initially the promise was a three hour wait for a diagnosis. That turned into three days before the techs had identified the problem, four days before the ordered the part, and five before it was fixed. Despite promises by three different people to call us with updates, we always had to make the calls ourselves. The service writers also assigned technicians to work on the car who weren't even at work (twice). When we went to pick it up, the service writer tried to secretly upcharge us when he said the extra $18 was "tax" and not the warranty we expressly stated we didn't want. When we reviewed the fine print of the receipt, however, there was the $18 warranty charge added on in black and white. The service writer probably expected we wouldn't actually read the receipt. Our first and only maintenance service experience here was abysmal. We will definitely not be back. read more

I guess the management/owners of this location don't care much about the customer here, going by the other reviewers not much has changed. Took my car here for a simple tire rotation. Dropped off my car at 4:30. They told me it would be done about 6/630, ok that's fine. Received a call about 630, they told me the guy needed to take a lunch so it wouldn't be done until 730. Got there at 730, car wasn't done or at all touched. I know they get busy here, I understand that, but if my car wasn't even close to ready at 730, why didn't anyone give me a call to let me know?!?! Now I wait, listening to the oh so popular DRAKE (non-edited version) while I don't mind, the parent with their 3 year old might. Service time isn't at all close to what they originally tell you. For those who have complaints about booking online and getting the same crappy wait times, it's the businesses fault. Obviously the owners nor management care to look into fixing the online booking system. Something is wrong with this place, and it needs to be looked into if they ever want to run this shop in a professional and timely manner. Not like they care here, but I'll never come back to this location. The one on Rosemead and Broadway is so much more efficient and professional. Never had a problem at that place. First, if you are going to Pep Boys, I suppose you are: A) trying to save a buck, B) not concerned about factory parts, and/or C) looking for some sort of convenience you can't find at a dealer. This, I will never REALLY understand, but I found myself at the Pasadena Pep Boys. My experience was with Alejandro who was manning the service desk. He was pleasant, helpful, followed up when he said he would, was straight forward, and went out of his way to make it a first-class, 5-star experience. He is a gem and is worth his weight in gold. 3 stars are just for the coupon the offer for synthetic oil change which is about 52$ (incl. tax). The service is mediocre. But I was quite surprised when after "complimentary" inspection I was told that the cabin air filter has to be replaced. When I said that I had replaced it by myself a couple of months ago the employee told me that it is dirty and dusty. Plus, they recommended a lot of other services which would cost me around 350$. So, I kindly rejected their suggestion. When I got home I checked the condition of the cabin filter. It looked almost like a new one. So, these guys are a lil bit too worrisome about your car. I don't know if it's everywhere or not because this is my first time that I go to a car service center. read more

I had a similar experience as the other reviewers. I had run over a HUGE bolt on the 134 and needed a plug. I went there, and all the bays were open but the shop itself was dead. It was about 45 minutes before it closed. I told the guy my situation. He had his jacket on and seemed like he wanted to get out of there. He said "We're all booked up for the night." There was one other car and it wasn't even in the bay. Never going back to this place. Firestone is across the street and they're much more friendly. I've had decent service in the past at this particular PepBoys, but that was only as far as oil changes and brake replacements go. I recently had transmission and A/C issues and tried to stop here as a start point, but after 7 hours of my car sitting at the shop I was charged $90 for an "evaluation" that simply parroted what I said when I dropped it off (possible low transmission fluid, low coolant, "A/C doesn't work"). When I asked if they replaced any of these fluids with the 7 hours they had, they replied "no". To the store's credit, the manager Jeff is quite good and was very happy to return me the $90 for the evaluation that never happened. He also was willing to suggest a local transmission shop that might be of better help, Aamco at 1800 E Colorado Blvd. I'd suggest either making sure Jeff is working (Fri-Sat mornings) or avoiding this location for anything beyond the basics. I overheard him discussing how hard it is to find good talent at this location... this was evident in the work ethic and attitude of the employees I met. read more

Came in for new tires. First, they put the lift in the wrong place, and dropped the car. Then, they switched the tires I had picked out for a different model without discuss it with me, and half way through the install I had to let them know they had installed the wrong size. read more
