Really kind and helpful people here. Only downer is that they are pretty busy so it can be longer waiting time, even just for an oil change. But it seems worth the wait because they are really professional here and you walk away feeling confident that they did a good job. Here I'm getting a synthetic oil change for about $60 with a coupon (It'll go about 5000 miles versus the regular oil change for 3k miles). Sign up for free rewards which will mail you some good oil change coupons. Also, with my oil change they are giving me a free tire rotation for being a rewards member. Awesome! read more

The service here is absolutely horrible. I went to the parts counter to get a replacement headlight bulb, the guy (he was a manager too) was having quite an intimate conversation on the company phone with someone. When he finally hung up, he gave me attitude for "disturbing" him. I told him the make and model of my car and the quoted me a different bulb than the one I had (it was a complete different shape!). He told me that's what the computer said and to go to the repair area if I had any questions. Great. At the repair area, the guy said that he couldn't tell me anything about the bulb (even if I buy it from the parts area) without a $95 fee to look at it. No thanks. read more

They had some crazies in there but he treated them all with respect and was able to get me in and out with a new battery installed quickly!!! His staff all seemed happy and they were all smiling. Very Awkward Service, I MEAN AWKWARD. When I walked in it took about 10 minutes before anyone spoke with me, even tho they were unoccupied just talking bout stupid shit. It was about $35 to get an oil change plus the other liquids n my care topped off...IDK if thats reasonable or not meh. After about an hour my car was finished. -_- The cashier was on her phone txt messaging so i patiently waited for her to notice me (i think she was on drugs) Then when I got into my car the Check Engine Light was on -_- Idk if they really put in the fluids but this experience was just odd. Like most people I have a limited amount of time to squeeze in the crap I don't want to do, this includes automotive maintenance. Knowing better than to schedule such maintenance on a weekend, I first called Pep Boys and asked how long I should expect to take out of my Sunday if my brake pads were to need replacing (from time of arrival). I was told 1.5 hours- 2 hours max. Okay, that's not too bad I can entertain myself in the neighborhood for that long... I arrived not 10 minutes later. After 5 HOURS they finally looked at my car and told me nothing needed to be done to it. WOW! This Pep Boys has brought a whole new meaning to a "wasted day." Why a 2nd star? Came here for a dead battery, they got the job done in 40 minutes. Made an appointment online earlier in the day, but they couldn't find it in the system. Never the less, they were able to take me right away. Descent customer service, however battery prices were on the high side. Lastly, they don't honor all the coupons they promote. Lots of ads to encourage customers to sign up for mobile coupons, yet they didn't honor any of them at check out. Not cool. read more

I've been going to this Pep Boys regularly for the last decade and it has had it's ups and downs. My most recent visit was a real pleasure. As I was cruising around the store, I was greeted by a nice guy that worked there...continued shopping, couldn't find the gear oil and went back to get his help. Turns out the guy who greeted me was the manager, Farris. He proceeded to help me find everything on my list, including going into the back to check stock two separate times. Wow! From what started as being a 2-3 store errand to get all my stuff ended up getting complete in 10 minutes with Farris at the helm. It was really great to see a parts store manager on the floor doing the dirty work, helping customers. Many thanks to Farris and his Pasadena store! I look forward to my next visit. read more

I was told that I had to get both my rear cylinders replaced ($216.00 + $33.42 + $33.42 = $282.84) and that my rear brake light bulb was out ($16.47). I became suspicious when they told me about the rear brake light because I can see the reflection of my brake lights on the wall when I back into my parking space at work and it had been fine. I got a second opinion, they told me my rear brake wheel cylinders were both perfectly fine, and that it looked as if someone had unscrewed my light bulb on the rear brake light. I don't know how to get to my rear brake bulb, and deductions lead me to think Pep Boys just wanted to squeeze a few more bucks out of me. Never going back. If you go, and they tell you something is wrong with your car, I suggest getting a second opinion before getting anything done here. There are other places that won't fleece you of your money. read more

A few days ago, I made an online appointment to have my shocks replaced. I showed up on time and waited in line behind a couple who were adding more services to their bill and therefore taking a while. There was one one person at the desk, and a line of about 4 people formed. This man kept assuring the couple that all of the services would be completed by the next day. When I finally got to the front, I said I was there for my 1 pm appointment, and the man at the desk said they were not "accepting any more jobs for the day". I said, "But I made an appointment." He said, "I don't have the labor". And he offered to get me in tomorrow, as if I'd ever go back! Does he know people aren't just waiting around all week to get their cars fixed? read more

Came in for new tires. First, they put the lift in the wrong place, and dropped the car. Then, they switched the tires I had picked out for a different model without discuss it with me, and half way through the install I had to let them know they had installed the wrong size. read more

Came just to get a new battery. They were more than willing to leave the "your battery is difficult to install and requires more work" charge that their computer implemented for my economy sedan lol. Had I not said anything they would have kept that charge. Make sure you make them show you what's difficult about your battery install before you accept the work if that charge is there. I can't begin to think how many people they've tacked that little charge on for. The person doing the service cross threaded a tie down (I was standing right there.) The nut "still went down" according to them so they continued. The reason why a new nut was used was because they lost the original one in my engine bay. Broke my battery holder right in front of me trying to remove the battery. It's a thin piece of plastic but still, these are the "professionals"? These are parts I can get cheap so it's not like I'm going to throw a fit but the lack of care for a customer's car when I'm standing right there watching every move scares me to think about what's going on and what they allow and don't report when I'm chilling in the waiting room. I was just about to schedule and oil change before remembering my experience here. I think I'll stay away and you should too. As someone who works on cars I just had to laugh at how bad this was. Note to the Pepboys business person replying to yelp reviews: No I don't want to email you or talk to you. Yes you're right, my experience wasn't up you your standards. No there's no way you can make it right unless you want to buy me a new OEM battery cover, tie down, and nut. read more

I am very weary of car repair shops. the wait, the possible deception, the people you have to deal with, the lack of control over the process...so many things can possibly make the experience a complete headache and morph into a disaster. So when I found out my rear tire had a nail in it causing air to leak, I dreaded going to a dealership or service shop to get it fixed. Luckily, pepboys allayed my fears. I made an appointment with them the same day (Sunday) in the afternoon. Brought my car in, told them I had a nail in the rear tire, handed over my keys, waited in the waiting room (which has free wifi) watching NFL sunday. They called my name in less than an hour telling me my car was ready. They had taken out a huge nail and patched it up. They charged me less than $20. No fuss, no complications, completely straightforward, in and out in less than an hour on a Sunday afternoon for a simple issue. The mechanic (Andrew Ayala) was friendly and helpful, and made the whole experience even pleasant. It seemed some others on yelp have had poor experiences here, but mine went really smooth. We were driving all the way to Arizona from California and during our gas station visit, we discover one of our tires went flat! It was frustrating and at the same time, we did not know what to do!! We made a quick decision of pumping the tire all the way up and to continue to check up to see if miracle will happen so we can fix it when we get there. Unfortunately, it did not work out the way we wanted. While desperating searching for help, and food, we came across this shop to see if they can help. We dropped off our car for about 2 hours and when it comes the time to pay, the service specialist said it's free of charge and we don't have to pay. Not only are we happy with the level of service received, it is the greatest gift we can ask for! As you all know, car problem is the most annoying headache anyone can ask for, next to annoying sibling or wife or husband :) We salute for your help pep boys! read more

The guys and gals here do their best and are generally friendly. They always contacted me about authorizing work before performing it. Most of the time they called me when the car was done. Although they don't necessarily specialize in any one part of a car, or in a make of car, they did pretty well for me and because its a large company, customers always have corporate recourse to fall back on if unhappy with the work. Made an appointment last night for an oil change at 9am. Came in at 8:45, and talked to Jeff. He said he would help me out in a minute. Okay cool no worries. Someone else comes out and asks if I've been helped, I say yes and point to Jeff. Jeff then rudely says "no he can help you, can you see I'm busy?" Okay my bad. Tell them I have an appointment, they tell me it would take 2 hours to do my oil change. Keep in my mind, it's 9am on a Saturday morning and there's maybe 2 cars in front of me. Jeff then says "you don't have an appointment." Tell him I do and that I have the confirmation. He asks when I made the appointment, and I tell him last night. He says "there's no record." Awful, simply awful! It should not take over an hour to change a car battery. I ordered the battery on-line and scheduled the appointment beforehand (i.e., I wasn't a walk-in during a busy time of day). I would have changed the battery myself, but I had errands to run on the way home, and no desire to be stranded in a parking lot with a new battery in the back seat but no pliers/wrench/etc. I should have risked it! Not only did the battery swap take forever (I swear the terminals went on/off 5 times for no apparent reason), but the employee chipped the battery tray while dropping the new battery in so that the one battery tie-down can no longer screw into the tray! When I FINALLY got home, I had to spend another 1+ hours removing the new battery so that I could jimmy-rig a new attachment point on the tray for the battery hold-down bolt. Pricewise, the battery was on the expensive side. When my friend called AAA's" battery fleet" for a road-side battery change the other day, the battery was substantially cheaper for comparable value (CCA, warranty, etc). And, as soon as the AAA serviceman arrived, we were back on the road in 10 minutes! Save yourself the time and $ by going elsewhere! And, if you are a girl, DEFINITELY go elsewhere. Completely disrespectful, and try to push random parts/accessories on you under the guise of being helpful. Cut the crap, already! read more

I took my car in about 2 weeks ago when it overheated. Coolant fluid was leaking everywhere. They called me about 2 hours after saying it was about a 4 hour job to fix the damage to the thermostat. Then i dont hear back from them after 8 hours so i show up and they say now theres more problems with my car.... I didnt even get a phone call !!! So now they have to keep it overnight and figure out what else is wrong with it. The next day i get a phone call about problems with the radiator and the fans not working. I told them not to fix anything else. I go to pick up my car and it runs perfectly fine ........ Then they wouldnt give me the parts that they took out of my car either... Don't come here for any type of diagnostic service they will tell you the opposite of what's wrong. I paid $35 for a coolant leak diagnostic and they said it was coming from the thermostat housing. I took my car home and replaced it which took hours because it's really hard to get to. I replaced it and the car is still leaking the fluid. They wanted to charge me over $400 to replace it for nothing! They wasted a lot of my time. I hope I can get a refund read more

DO NOT GET YOUR VEHICLE SERVICED HERE! First off I had a 3pm appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. Get there at 3 and they tell us it's going to be an hour and a half so we uber home. Call us 3 hours later that car is ready. What is the point of making an appointment???? Worst of all we marked the tires ahead of time to ensure they were rotated. When we get there to pick up the car, they insisted the tires were rotated but we checked our marks and the were not!!! They lied to our face!!!! The reviews that I'm reading here about "not keeping up with appointments" is at an all time high.....To the PepBoys corporate money hungry felines: Don't even try to offer appointments on-line If your people can't keep a promise at all.......I scheduled an appointment ahead of time for steering/Brake oil flush and they (PepBoys personnel's) stated that "we have around five guys ahead of you" despite there were no customer at 9 AM on a Sunday morning.............I had flush my oils in the past with PepBoys despite my engine may have a small leak of oil, but never was an issue in the past, but now "We can't flush It because the labor for engine removal could cost more and your oil is leaking a lot" (Even though Its a lie to the highest order) and all kinds of bulls**t. After a long time customer, I'll take my car service elsewhere!!! read more

I had a nail in my tire I knew exactly which one it was. It was 3PM they close at 6PM. I pulled up real quick and asked the only mechanic I see if they did patches. He said yes, but I don't think we have time to do yours today. Mind is blown... 3hrs before closing and there's THAT many people waiting to get their cars fixed that a simple nail in tire can't be done? Okay then... I took my car to Firestone across the street. Apparently they turned away people since 1PM. Luckily, Firestone said they'll do it real quick. read more

Came back because I had a few problems. And this time Pedro and Jeremy (mechanic) wanted to be the MEN. Turns out my motor mounts wore out. These bad boys were EXPENSIVE! Jeremy and Pedro really cared about me not driving around and insisted that I didn't until it was fixed. They called like a bajillion stores to get the parts since they didn't have the mounts I needed. Parts were found and it took like 2-3 hours to install. Motor mounts aren't that easy to install! I walked over to hang with some friends down the street on Colorado while waiting to get my baby. At the end.. Pedro was super nice and gave me 10% off for labor; (labor turned out to be $~400). BC I was on a limited time schedule, I only talked to one other place to compare prices. The Acura Dealship said that it would of costed me $550 for labor for motor mounts. I made the better choice to stick with Pep Boys. Thanks for being the men, Jeremy and Pedro! read more
