Went in to get my Bosch battery replaced which was still under warranty and was going bad. Headed toward the auto parts in the back and was helped by Mario who did a great job, he tested my battery came up that it was no good anymore and proceeded to offer a replacement. At the front i was helped by Leslie who was very nice and professional she asked me how everything was with exchanging my battery and if had any troubles. Although i am more of an autozone person the great service and knowledge here at Pep Boys will have me coming back for anything car related in the future. This place is the worst. I've had several issues at this location (can't speak on all Pep Boys as this is the only one I've ever gone to). The two biggest issues are their inattention to detail and their lack of time management. I like to take care of things like oil changes on my lunch hour at work, therefore I make appointments to make sure it is done timely. If I drop my car at 12 for an oil change (20 minutes tops), I expect it to be done within the hour. I am not an unreasonable person, so I know that things happen and sometimes my wait will be longer than an hour. Fine. The issue I have is that they are always behind, always running late, always need the car for 1.5, 2, 3 hours for a simple oil change. It being done on time is the exception, not the rule. I traded in my van last year and when they pulled the car fax, the mileage on my car was inconsistent because this Pep Boys had entered in the mileage to their system incorrectly. I was able to convince the dealer that it was an error on Pep Boys, but I understand why he thought maybe someone was tampering with the mileage on the car. Being careless with record keeping and careless with people's time is inexcusable. I've kept coming back to this place because the location is close to work and the cost of an oil change but I'm done. I can't take anymore. Oh, and PS, they once quoted me $800 for "needed work" and when I showed my husband he laughed. After calling them to ask questions they said their quote was an error and the real price for work was $350. What?????? So done with this place. Customer beware. read more

The only reason I kept coming back here was that it's very convenient to my workplace. Typing this out, I'm actually embarrassed I gave them so many chances. The mechanics are incompetent and customer service is rude and aggressive. I'll give you the highlights: 1) The one time I got a nice rep who was actually listening, another rep rudely butted in (without having looked at my car or the service notes) to tell me I needed a $3000 repair NOW or the engine would seize. I got a second opinion elsewhere - they fixed the actual problem for $200 and the car is doing fine 15k miles later. 2) On two occasions, they forgot to perform one of the services I requested but they sure remembered to bill me for it. 3) Last visit and final straw: after an oil change, the rep said my brake pads were almost down to the metal and the rotors were ruined as a result of my negligence, requiring a complete overhaul lest I die in a fiery crash. My brake pad gauge read 8mm and even their own service invoice stated the brake pads and rotors were "OK." So not only will they lie to your face, they can't even get their story straight. To top it all off, after every service I get a barrage of emails requesting a BBB review where the fine print says your review will be removed if it mentions customer service or prices. But they are pretty efficient at what they do, and they do do a good job, most of the time - compared to other local shops I've been to. So on performance, I'd give them a 4. Had a 1030 appointment for an oil change. Dropped it off on time and they said it would be ready by noon. Came back at 1230 and they said they hadn't started it yet. I reminded them I had a 1030 appointment and they responded by saying it was next to get serviced. In all fairness they brought it into the bay and rushed the service. This morning I came into Pep Boys thinking a wire on my battery was bad. When I told the man there about this he had me pull my car up to the work area right away and came out looking at my problem. While they did not have the wire used on my car there, he went above and out of his way to make a new wire for my car. This was a great visit to Pep Boys as I saw work together at finding which parts would work with my car. After returning a part I originally bought to replace this wire I ended up saving money by going there today. Later found that it was a bad battery which was under warranty so I got it replaced. A big THANK YOU to the Pasadena Pep Boys! So far every Pep Boys I've gone to have been very friendly and helpful. This one is at the top of my list of hard workers who are there to help. read more

There's not much I respect more than honesty and patience. The men here are engaging, give good description that I can understand (he even mimicked the noises my car was making BEFORE i had to do it!), and honest. When my battery died and I was afraid I'd also had damage done to the cables, I got in and out, with what truly felt like a fair price and they even gave my car a once-over on fluids and overall condition. And when I came back when something actually wrong (and they were busy), they spent time with me to discuss some diagnostics, told me what to expect for evaluation before it was even truly look at, and encouraged and empowered me to do my own research and find the best deal for me if their services didn't work for my budget. The only reason I give 4 stars is because if they were truly the best deal already, I wouldn't have to do my own research/find another place for services. But I very much appreciate their kindness and forwardness. I'll continue to go back for diagnostics any time. read more

Today, my sister booked an appointment online with the Pep Boys website to have her tire looked at and patched, several hours in advance. When we arrive and she checks in, the gentleman at the service desk informed her that they don't have an appointment for her. When she informed him she booked it online and showed him the confirmation, he stated, "Oh, well you need to call to see if we have your appointment." What do you mean? She received not only the confirmation email, but also a text message confirming the appointment. No where on the website, email, or text does it say to call to confirm. When asked about this, he proceeded to try and talk circles around the question and make up some excuse. When asked again, he started becoming agitated and stated, "You have to call to confirm. The computer will just let you book an appointment. I don't have a mechanic here." You're still open with no mechanic? Okay. This was some of the worst customer service I have ever witnessed/experienced. No apology or attempt to try and rectify the situation. He just continued to try and place blame on the customer and was beyond unhelpful. Before, when I had service done around March of this year, I was given an estimate for the service. The time came and went, so I called to get an update. The individual on the phone told me he tried calling me, but I input the wrong phone number. Funny, my reservation and paperwork had my actual phone number on it, so I'm not exactly sure how that would be possible. Again, just placing blame on the customer automatically. Never again will I use this location or recommend them to anyone. read more

I've come here many times because it's local, but I'm no longer going to come back. Every time, there is a delay with some sort of excuse. There is never an apology or their acknowledgement of responsibility. The reason why they constantly take so long is sometimes some of their guys don't show up to work and they're short staffed. It seems like they overcommit and under deliver always. I took my car in at 4:30 pm on a weekday to get my tired checked out. They said to pick up around 7:30 PM. 7 PM rolls around and they said I have to leave overnight because they didn't reach my fleet company to get approval on a tire replacement. They also said they couldn't fix my tire instead since there was already a patch. But there was no leak. It just needed replacement. Okay, I call first thing at 8 AM since I need my car to go to work. They still hadn't called my fleet company and continued to tell me there were a lot of logistics involved that I didn't understand. Save your time, DO NOT GO TO THIS PEP BOYS IN PASADENA. They will make you wait and they will not even appreciate your business. read more

I changed engine oil here yesterday. It spent almost 2 hours and they called to ask me about alignment so I got that and it took another 1 hour. And after I picked up my car, I realized it is making weird sound front of my car while I drive so I checked the oil but there was nothing. It was just empty and some burning smell. read more

This Pep Boys is TERRIBLE. I took my car in for an appointment at 11:30 AM for an oil change. They told me my car be ready in an hour and a half most, this is after I told them previously that I intended to wait which is why I made the appointment slots I decided not to wait because it was going to take more than an hour, I did not get a call until 5:30 PM saying that my car was ready. I go to pick up my car, and the man said that they left me a second voicemail saying they did not do my old change. They said it was because the drain plug was stripped. The catch is I had taken my car to a different Pep Boys in El Monte and they had checked my oil in front of me to see how much longer I could go because I could not make the time to have an appointment and I was a few hundred miles over my due date. I saw that my drain pipe was not stripped when Thur checked it and said I had a week left approximately until I should come back. Since the week and was approaching, I decided to go to this Pasadena Pep Boys because it was closer to home and after seven hours and closing that I couldn't take my car anywhere else, they said they couldn't do the oil change because the drain plug was stripped when THEY STRIPPED MY DRAIN PLUG!!!! The didn't know I knew they were responsible, but this is the THIRD and last terrible experience with this unreliable place!! read more

I've been going here for years - mostly for parts to do my own work, but also bigger service jobs like new Alternators, timing belts, etc. I've always been very happy with this location - until about two weeks ago. I've been a 5-star rater on PepBoys, but I'm temporarily dropping one star until my next experience. To start from the end of the last visit, Chris did a fantastic job making right of a wrong done to my wife. Two weeks back, it was pouring rain and she was sick. For the second time in a week, AAA had to come out to jump our SUV. They ran a report and stated that the battery was bad. I trust AAA as they almost always have run the reports and given the thumbs up - our fault, light left on, etc. So I sent my wife after she drove 1 hour to her doc, and an hour back. Raining cats and dogs, she went in and explained the issue. We were either willing to buy a new battery or get the new pro-rated one if warranty were remaining. This battery was replaced once due to premature death. I had no issues, my wife did. She was told by one of the mechanics that she could not replace this battery as it was "good". "Batteries don't work like that" he stated. She asked what she had to do and was told that they can't replace a "good" battery. As this progressed, or digressed, I called O'Reilly and bought a new battery online as I already felt bad for her. she left PepBoys and went to O'Reilly's where they came out in the rain, and replaced the battery in 5 minutes. After drafting a fairly stern letter to PepBoys, I got a reply the next day. I got an apology, and they offered to make good if I came in. I dealt with Chris, whom I believe to be the Ass't Mgr. He was extremely helpful and polite, and offered an apology to my wife for the experience. I was given a refund and I considered this a fair resolution. I hope to never have to write a letter like that again. I enjoy using this location and I have always found the staff helpful and polite. I'd like to give the 5th star back soon. read more

I usually have an OKAY experience here. I made an appointment earlier in the week to come in on a Saturday. I get there and they say that the mechanic is overbooked and they can't take my car. What is the point of even having an appointment anymore? I get that it's the weekend before a holiday but I had an appointment, and they knew the details to be able to plan accordingly. Ridiculous. My friend recommended me the pep boy auto and I searched in google maps, appeared the closest location is the Pasadena one, after dealing with all the traffic and unpleasant road rage, I finally arrived , it's my first time there. There is a nail in my left rear tire and I hope they could help me with that problem. However, the front desk lady told me that I need to wait 2-3 hours, and I said:" wow, 2-3 hours?" I show up to tire/service at 7:25 (35min before close) figuring they could either patch a tire or replace it (needed car for work the next day and didn't want chance it driving to the Westside with a huge bolt in my tire). The guy said they didn't have enough time and if I could come back. Explained the situation and he said sorry can't do it tonight. Hello Fellow Yelpers, Back again for a quick update. The helmet that was exchanged for me at this location, came out defective as well. Overall for parts and whatnot, pep boys is the place to be. For SAFE motorcycle riding gear......probably not!! I will not return to buy anything motorcycle related from Pep boys in general. On the flip side though, went back there today to get a refund for the defective helmet, Mario, the parts manager, did a great job (Farris wasn't there, even though he said he was going to be), he looked at my receipt and took care of it right away. I got my full refund, customer service was top notch!! This is one of the nicest pep boys I've been to. Why 4 stars? Because the damn helmet was no good!!! LOL....other than that...everything is kosher!!! Good job Mario and Farris....(even though Farris left me hanging today) lol!! read more

The worst service I have ever had... I gave my Toyota corolla to check why the engine check light is on. They asked to do engine diagnosis which costs $80 which can be do in mints. When I came there to collect the car, the mechanic is telling, the engine is not good and asking to replace the engine. They did not even check why the engine light is on. I collected the car and went to Sears and they confirmed that there is no problem with engine.. By the time I noticed that many screws are missing in my car when the mechanic of Pepboys did his service... It was very pathetic service from Pepboys. The mechanic was not able to identify the issue, gave wrong information and the most frustrating thing is missing the car parts after the service. read more

If you like a simple job done right the first time, don't bother with this PepBoys. I found my battery weak and unable to start the car, got a jump, and headed for PepBoys to buy a new one. They confirmed that the battery was bad, sold me a new battery and installation, and upsold me on the "Pep Up Your Battery" service. I drove away with a new battery, but a car that later would not start. They had not cleaned the terminals or brushed the gunk off of the connectors, and the connection was spotty as a result. In two minutes at AAA was able to diagnose and fix the shoddy work of the PepBoys folks; a hit with battery cleaner, a little wire brush, and a rinse with water were all it took to make things work again. THIS IS BASIC STUFF that I paid for and that they didn't bother to do. Very shoddy work. I'll not be going to a PepBoys again in the future. read more

I went to see if my Break lights can be replaced. It takes 5 maybe 10 minutes. I was told I had to wait 2 hours. I left went home called back asked what their ETA was to have my 2 break lights replaced they told me 3 hours lol smh. They wasn't even trying to help me. I went to auto zone and told them the story of "Pep Boys" and they fixed it on the spot took about 10 min or less. Plus, for free! Pep Boys was going to charge me. The auto zone guy even was surprised about the fact they wouldn't just take 10 min to fix it no matter how busy it was. He was surprised himself. Thank You Auto Zone! read more

Chex Silverado 2500HD carrying a truck camper. Heading south, outside Harrisburg, PA, 8pm, the alternator fails. The only folks open are the Pep Boys. The truck, with the camper on it, cannot fit in the service bay so their mechanic changes the alternator, in the parking lot, IN THE RAIN! The cost is modest and off we go. The gauge says ok but the warning light remains on. It must be charging because we make it to N.C., stopping and restarting several times. Went to a Chev dealer. After waiting 3 days, they installed one of theirs, the cost was more than double and the problem solved. They concluded, and I figured out, that the Pep Boys alternator worked fine but would not "talk" to my trucks computer. I stopped at a different Pep Boys store, they tested and found the alternator OK so they could not issue a refund but they provided the number and suggested I call higher management. I did, they apologized and my money was promptly refunded. Everyone was pleasant, courteous and went out of their way to help. I will be happy to deal with these folks again. read more

Update: checked June 2017 at the Pasadena Pepboys to see if the still a bunch of no-nothings. Yep, I asked for an oil change with Mobil One extended oil. I asked for a Purolator oil filter called the BOSS. Idiot said I don't have any filters called the Boss. we just have the Purolator ONE. They did have the Boss on the shelfs except not in a filter that fits my car. Had to accept Mobil oil filter. Asked that they do not bother checking the fluids. But I asked for the tire rotation. 45 minutes later they still hadn't bother to tell me their finished. I checked the lot and the car was done, except no tire rotation. Asked the service writer why he didn't do the rotation. He said I asked for it not to be done. I blew up, my back was killing me, they lied to me, they hadn't change.manager came running , told me to stop acting crazy. The we all need to be civil with each other. How about being honest? Other employees were laughing at me. Thinking it was a joke. Manager said for them to do the Rotation. I said, forget, I wanted to pay and leave. He turned and walked away. I paid and feel over charged. I am owed $20 for a rotation. Yea, I could of had it done. But do you think they would of not screwed with the car? What has happen to service? Made two mistakes that day, one when back to them and two did so in pain with a bad back. Me bad, I believed the BS I was told by Pep Boys. I finally reached my limit with Pepboys, you are dishonest and use of deception tactics finally caused me to find another repair shop. On Thursday April 21,2016 I when into the Pasadena Ca store to have my Struts replaced. I saw your ad on line saying that up to $100 rebate. Go in to the store for details. I did that, the service writer had no clue concerning the offer. He said he would find out later. I left the car there trusting that the rebate would be waiting. He called and informed me 4 hours later that the car was ready. I asked about the rebate, he said oh yes I found it. Got there and was told to go to the cashier and pay. I asked her about the rebate and she gave me a form. I left and got home only to find no listing on the form for shocks or struts. I then search the Monroe site and saw the form, it showed that I needed to buy 2 struts and two shocks. The service writer or cashier never said I needed to buy 4 items. On top of that I needed UPC 's that I never got. I also blame your ad on the web, if you had just said that I needed to read the rebates forms below I would of found out what I needed to do. This isn't the first screw up at this Pepboys, they do a rotten job on brakes. Not once but twice the screwed up the job. They did a poor job on my PT Cruiser on a smog issue. Damaging parts while doing the job. ....They didn't always do the work they claimed they did. Another Store sold my wife a tire that she could of had replaced free elsewhere. The replacement caused a driving issue because it threw the tracking off. She now had two different types of tire's. I then replaced all four tire's elsewhere. I have spend thousands of dollars at Pepboys, no more. I plan to report this on Yelp and elsewhere. Update June 23:  Problem with Pep Boys is service not only in the Pasadena store but all through their chain of stores.A  Staff that has not the proper knowledge of parts and poor service. Treating customer poorly as if they're idiots and morons and  mechanics laughing at them when their upset. Manager Jeff saying am Acting Crazy.  Poor, poor ,poor poor service . I Was contacted by area (Victor) supervisor. He was helpful and if honest will address the issue's I raised. You know a great business, it's when you go there and the same staff is always there. These folks are in the business of up selling. I ask for an alignment, they tried to sell me a lifetime alignment. When I did the alignment, they said my right arm controller was trashed and needed to be replaced for 379.99 in order to do alignment. Took it to my mechanic and he said it wasn't really that bad, and replacedit for a lot less. I didn't bother to go back to Pep Boys for the alignment and went to another store ,J and G pro tires who did an amazing job for $100.00. Id recommend them on Walnut over Pep Boys. read more

This place is awful. I have been here several times before and I've always thought they overcharged me and were not very friendly at the counter, and would definitely leave things unfinished, but because I had such good experiences at the Silverlake Pep Boys I still had some lingering brand loyalty. I went in today to drop my car off to be serviced before a big road trip. I made an appointment and was on time and they informed me that my car would be ready in two hours. I went back there after two hours and my car had not even been touched, and they said they wouldn't be looking at it for at least another 20 minutes. I understand unforeseen circumstances mean jobs some days can take longer than others, but the communication was nonexistent. If this was my first bad experience here I would be more reluctant to leave a bad review and I feel awful doing this but seriously go somewhere else. 2 stars because maybe they'll read this, start to consider customer experience, and improve a little.
