Ratings change, trends take a while to catch up. I don't think this Shop is deserving of its modest 3.5 stars. I proudly give them 5 stars for servicing my most cherished possession. My Toyota Celica always gives a hard time, and when one thing is fixed, another breaks. As soon as I handed over my keys they got straight to work. Javier was my parts manager and sales, he was very informative and knowledgeable in his field, explaining everything to me, with reassurance that I'll be on my way in no time. First all I needed was Mounts for Motor and Transmission, but removing the mud guard revealed a busted CV boot. Which fell apart when removed, if they didn't catch that I would've been stranded by now with a bigger problem. I decided to go the full way and get my drums replaced. Out of 4 mounts, 2 drums, 4 shoes, a CV axle, alignment and a steering fluid flush. After Mike handled my work order and bill, I left confidently with barely a dent in my pocket. Worst experience ever at a Pep Boys! The front associate Mike was extremely rude and unprofessional... he was answering business customer phone calls in-front of me and got very annoyed with every single one of them. At a certain point he slammed and hung up the phone following up with a "stupid people" comment. Awkward silence after that... lol. The employees are so rude no one says Goodmorning or greets you, many customers in the waiting room were complaining about how rude and how long the wait was. Took me 5 hours to get out the door with an oil change. NOT KIDDING!! an oil change took 5 hours. I wish I was making this up. Business owner please look into Mike, the type of behavior I witnessed was very far from ok and take action because I am done with Pep Boys and if you want to prevent current customers from leaving like myself. I also thought I'd mention that the inside is extremely dirty and smells bad. I think they probably sweep the floor maybe once a month. They prioritize Amazon vehicles before anyone else. I wish I can say I'll be back again but I won't. Please don't ever email me or try to send me offers again. I am completely done with Pep Boys after this experience. Worst car service place. They charged me $99 for a diagnostic and then told me it was a transmission problem they couldn't fix. Took it to a mercedes repair shop, and it was actually an actuator issue. The other place fixed it and now my car is running fine. What a scam! I came to my appointment for wheel alignment at 10 am today and was told it will be ready at 6 pm as there were 4 people ahead of me today. That's not what I was told yesterday afternoon by the same staff. I opted to schedule today as there were already 3 people ahead yesterday and it takes about an hour for each alignment. And I wasn't told they wanted my vehicle dropped off. I have to cancel appointment. Poor communication and customer service. read more

Well, I ordered tires online and paid for installation in advance and then I get here and then they tell me my TMP valves are not working and then I have to rebuild them and all this other stuff and it's gonna cost 300 more dollars and plus there is needed an alignment and everything else so I've already paid for everything. I told him I didn't want everything and they get an attitude because I don't wanna spend a bunch of extra money no wonder this company is going out of business. I would not bring anything here. Waited over 2 hours for a service. I witness the employee Mike complain about all the other customers in front of me. Horrible customer service and terrible people etiquette. "This woman on the phone has repeated herself two times already. I heard her the first time." Proceeds to throw the phone then puts his hands over his head. "They bring their cars to us and they don't even know why they bring them in." When my vehicle service was complete, he stood there chatting with other employees for a good 20 minutes. Pep Boys had the lowest total price for the mentioned services compared to Discount Tire, America's Tire, Firestone, and Big Brand Tires. Bradley provided excellent customer service. I made an appointment for A/C repair. I walked in and the man behind the counter ignored me, no greeting no "how can I help" etc. then he says "drop off or pickup" I said drop off, I scheduled an appointment. Now when I scheduled the appointment it asked me if I was going to need to wait and I clicked yes I would have to wait. He then says well I dont know if we will get it in today, we have a lot of cars. He was very dismissive, not attempting to be helpful etc. as a woman it's VERY frustrating to be dismissed when dealing with car stuff. I went to Pep Boys for a simple oil change and battery replacement, using a coupon I had. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. First, I was told that they no longer honor oil change coupons. Instead, they only offer a mail-in rebate. That wasn't mentioned anywhere on the coupon or during booking, which felt misleading. To make matters worse, when I asked for an estimate for the oil change and battery replacement. Both which are standard services and they flat out refused to provide one. I expect basic transparency and professionalism when it comes to car maintenance, especially for routine services like these. I left without getting anything done. Do not take your company vehicle here. I brought it in for a new tire only. Took them 2 days to finish, to let me know that they did an oil change, when I had changed it a week before. They do not communicate with the customer. They only want to charge the company card. They do not communicate what they will do to your vehicle, they only charge your company card. Doing business with Pep Boys is litterally a nightmare. BUYER BEWARE. I purchased tires from pep boys due to their roadside hazard warranty, which I had to pay for. I got a nail in my tire which caused the tire to have to be replaced. My tires were just prurchased recently with less than 5k miles of wear. Somehow I STILL HAD TO PAY $134 to have my tire replaced under warranty. Afterwards when my car is returned, I check my rim due to another pep boys having scratched my rims in the past. And guess what? There's a 9ish scratch to the rim of my $80,000.00 2023 BMW. The guy that rang me up said it was just the lube from putting on the tire, so I asked them to clean it up since there's an obvious gouge in the paint. The guy that worked on my car then tries to convince me it's just lube as well. He then brings out a rag to clean it up, and sure enough it's a huge scratch. He then says "oh well I don't know" then walks away. I ask what can be done to get this fixed and I was told he didnt know either and to call the manager in a few days. If I could leave no stars I would. I went in today to get my brakes replaced and they quoted me for over $700 for brakes and rotors. That's insane!! Autozone sells the brakes for 200 list price. I don't understand how their labor rate is over 100 the hour. As a female going in there by myself I expect them to try and up charge me assuming I don't know but that is ridiculous. Very disappointing experience the customer service was horrible. When I asked them for a breakdown of the charges they gave me no invoice. They also told me they checked my oil and that I need to get the oil change also. Date of Service: 10/08/2021 After receiving a $675-$900 quote from the dealership, I found a deal at Pep-Boys for $565 for four new tires and installation. I probably should've just gone through the dealership though because after making me wait 2 hours and lying about trying to contact me, Pep-Boys broke my Tire Pressure Sensors, wouldn't accept responsibility, and didn't give me any other option than to pay them to replace them. I told them to do the tire job I requested them to do and let me deal with the broken TPS's, which they did begrudgingly. I'm thinking it's because they wanted to take advantage of the situation. The TPS's were $55 each online to replace & $25 each to install. So the money I saved by going to Pep-Boys I ended up paying anyway along with more time and appointments. I couldn't afford the better one and they still didn't try to upcharge me since they were out of what I asked for. Went in yesterday for new tires and an alignment was quoted less online, but then became more as soon as I walked I waited my time for them to finish and it was supposed to be finished at 5:15 PM. They sent me a review of what they did and did not understand what they did then to come back and tell me that my back brake lights were out which I knew they weren't when I got there then have the audacity to say it's gonna cost $75 plus labor to fix it which I think is wrong then my pick up time arrives. I waited another half an hour after that my car parked in the front ready to go, but yet I was waiting on someone to ring me up before it got dark because now I have no brake lights and I still have not got them fixed today. I am so thankful for Mr. Casillas and his technician. I got new tires, alignment and front/rear brakes done at a different tire/mechanic shop (not pep boys). After paying and driving my car away from the shop, I immediately heard a grinding metal sound. I circled the block and the sound continued so I returned to the shop to let them know. It was right at closing time, but the technician was still there and drove my car around the parking lot only to tell me he didn't hear a sound and it must have been a rock that came loose. I drove away again thinking maybe it was just me only to hear the sound again. The sound was unsettling to say the least and got louder as I went over bumps. I didn't feel safe driving my car and especially didn't feel safe driving on mountain roads to get home. I tried to go back to the shop to try to get them to look again, but they were completely closed up. Thankful Pep Boys was still open and I drove there to see if someone was able to check my car to make sure it was safe to drive. I tearfully explained the situation to Mr. Casillas who immediately came out to check my car. Mr. Casillas and his technician heard the sound I was talking about and discovered that the drivers front caliper bracket bolts were so loose they could turn them by hand. A major safety issue that could have caused a braking issue/damage. The technician checked every bolt to make sure things were tightened properly. Do not come to this location!!! They lie. This location has gone down hill ever since they changed from a store/ auto service to just auto service. Although they barely seem to do auto service either. I had an appointment for an oil change but left once I felt lied to off the bat. Their website says free tire rotation with oil change but I was told by Paul that they only rotate tires if they were purchased there. Otherwise they'll charge. It doesn't say that on the website and the last time I got an oil change there they rotated all four tires without asking where I bought them. So since I bought only two tires there Paul said those would be rotated for free and the other two I would have to pay $35. What a rip off! Then I mentioned I needed coolant and Paul then proceeded to explain that they "don't really do that" there, or if they did they'd have to charge. Then he said "you could do it yourself." Fine charge for the coolant - but why was Paul acting like adding coolant was this huge burden. I mean, Paul clearly doesn't care and has developed a certain attitude with customers. read more

If you're thinking about taking your car to have your brakes replaced, allow me to save you some time. Here's what will happen, you call and ask for a price, let's just say for a replacement of your front brakes. They will tell you "it starts at $209, but we HAVE TO make an initial inspection before we can tell you the exact price" the replacement of brake pads are BASICALLY ALL!!!! the same, why is it so difficult to quote a price to replace brake pads. I understand that upon replacing or in the process you will find the rotors are too worn down or damaged and then upon inspection the price goes up. Don't tell me you don't have a fixed fee to do basic pad replacement. You will then get a call that will tell you every other item that is "wrong" with your car and your brake pads are actually $600 to replace because the rotors are too worn to be turned. By this time you've spent 3-4 hrs waiting for what will be the wrong answer. Just call O'Reilly or kraken or AutoZone and talk to their people because MOST of the time they are knowledgeable, honest and respectful. Order the parts and find or ask for references of your local mechanic that will do basic work like replace brakes and oil changes. If you need something that is more complex or it take more skill the. Just drive to the dealer and pay for the additional warranty. DO NOT GO TO PEPBOYS FOR MECHANIC WORK, their tire department is a different story and I actually had a much better experience. read more

9/27/23 visited PB Redlands, car may have overheated, but did not peg. $40 pressure test yielded a $2800 estimate recommending replacing the Entire cooling system from radiator to clamps hoses thermostat etc. Towed the car the next day to my mechanic, 1 thermostat 1 rad housing later, I spent less than $200. PB Redlands - your estimate to a community member should be criminal! I had just purchased a set of four tires from Pep Boys back in December 2021. However, my back passenger-side tire was losing a lot of air pressure over the course of a day or two, and I suspected a nail puncture. I initially went to the Pep Boys at Fontana, but unfortunately had to turn me away because there were no available technicians on site. The kind gentleman referred me to the Redlands location. The Redlands Pep Boys employees were considerate and kind. They apologized that, they too were short-staffed (from the pandemic), and the services would take longer than expected. I really appreciated the employees for being transparent about the wait time (2+ hours), and of course, I told them it was fine. There were two men at the front desk taking care of the other customer and my auto-related needs. They made friendly chit-chat and were pleasant! They actually got the tire changed in 40 minutes, which I did not expect. The pandemic has really stressed everyone out, so I really appreciated Pep Boys' kind customer service. Thank you sirs! Got my oil changed and noticed after that my car was leaking oil. Took it back to Pep Boyd and waited almost an hour for them to inspect their own work. They confirmed that my car was indeed leaking oil but said that it was probably the oil gasket? They didn't say anything about that in my initial service report. Now they're also saying I have a leaky transmission? I bought this car from a reputable dealer less than 6 months ago. Bs. Never going back here. read more

They came off as rude from the beginning, the "hefty" guy at the counter was rude from the beginning, as soon as I walked in he completely ignored me, then told me to wait as he just looked at his computer. Anywho... I initially came in for my check engine light. They told me they would run a diagnostic test. which I had to look at my receipt to figure out that it was going to be $99. (So no communication) they called me like 3 hours later saying my throttle body needed to be cleaned it was going to be $320. I agreed to the service. When I picked up my car I asked the girl at the counter if they found anything else, she looked confused and said I don't think so. I was already upset at the service, I just paid and left. Then after driving it home, it was fine. I went to go start it a few hours later, and all my dash lights went on, my car then stalled after 30 seconds of being started. I called them up and told them the problem. The guy I talked to said rudely... (well we don't have a master mechanic until Tuesday, so no one is able to look at it.) the whole experience was terrible! Where to begin. I was unhappy with another Pep Boys location and came to Redlands because I am a Car Advise customer. There was a misunderstanding with the Car Advise process, and both the manager Jose and associate Brooke were extremely helpful and patient. Car Advise pays them, and I pay a cheaper rate at Car Advise because I deliver food. Not only did these two back up what they said, they took their time to speak to a Car Advise rep, to relay proper information to me.
