I reserved a battery online and made an appointment for the next day. When I arrived, I was told twice to move my car in indifferent tones that bordered on being rude. The first time, the mechanic left a pneumatic wrench right in the path of my car, which had I not moved out of the way could have caused serious damage to both my vehicle and the tool. Then, despite making an appointment, I was told it would be "at least an hour" before they could get around to installing the battery, even though the place was deserted and the bays were half full. I received a nonsense answer as to why an appointment didn't matter. Then, after wasting 30 minutes of my time, I was told they couldn't install the battery because they couldn't "reset" the computer in my car because their "network had been down for months," whatever that means. When I suggested this issue be posted on their website so VW and BMW drivers don't stop there for service, he asked me incredulously why they would do something like that. Then, he barked at me one last time for walking into the mechanic's bay to get my car. Don't know why I would be at risk for injury, as no work was actually being done. I wound up at the Valvoline down the street, where they put in a new battery in 10 minutes, without my having to even get out of my car. Moral of the story: Rude and incompetent never carries the day. I will never return to this place, ever. read more

Took my F150 in to get my brake fluid replaced. I told them I would pay extra for Dot4 instead of the standard Dot3. They told me they would be using Dot3/4 at no extra charge. They ended up using Dot3 for $2 more than it was selling for inside the stored. Spent a lot of time giving me quotes on things that were soon to "go bad". Now I have to take my truck someplace else to get Dot4 put in it. Pay a little more and get it done right someplace else. read more

So to be honest... I have not been to this Pep Boys in about 25 years because I'd had a lot of bad experiences in the 80s in the 90s at this Pep Boys and I swore off ever going in there again. So it's 100° out today in the middle of a pandemic and my husband's route to work is on literally on fire and his battery died this morning... We called about five or six different places because I was so reticent to go back to this Pep Boys... BUT, they were the only parts store that actually answered their phone this morning, even in comparison to other Pep Boys in the West Valley (I'm looking at you Fallbrook who never answers their phone) And they actually answered their phone in a friendly professional manner, only kept us on hold a few seconds, and had his battery in stock. So I need to drive my husband over there and my little 10 pound dog just had surgery and couldn't be left home so we had no choice but to bundle him up with his halo, with my husband, and his old battery out of his car and off to Pep Boys we went! First off the Cashier, who I later discovered was the manager (Matthew), immediately greeted us upon walking in the store... Actually he greeted every single person turning his head to make eye contact yet one never slowing down his cashiering, offering carts & answering questions... I also noticed it was cool inside which was surprising as one of the reasons I used to HATE going here is that for close to 25-30yrs they just refused to actually run a/c properly even when it was 110° outside! Matthew quickly offered us a cart for the battery, told us where to go, and then onto the parts department where they immediately found a battery & tested our old battery... while they were testing the old battery my little pup I'm holding in my arms got kind of squirmy & started panting... and a kind & lovely man from the parts counter by the name of MAURU took his Gatorade bottle emptied it washed it cut the bottom off and filled it with cold water for my little pup all while he maintains social distancing and he had a mask on... MAURU was beyond kind and friendly and I was so very touched. Before we knew it the other gentleman at parts counter who had been testing my husband's battery had everything ready for us to go up to the front. I can honestly say in 40 years this was my best experience at this Pep Boys!! or any Pep Boys ANYWHERE Thank you MAURU & MATTHEW... we will b back Now I read a lot of complaints... But they all seem to be regarding the service and poor communication in the service bays... And honestly I'm not surprised they were right in line with the same issues that I've been hearing from my friends for years and again my reason for not coming back here in over 25 to 30 years... Now I noticed that a fair amount of these complaints were from ladies... and as a woman myself believe me I understand how vulnerable you feel especially when going to get our cars repaired and really & I don't think that many men are capable of understanding that... My wife and I used to live in Tarzana and my wife brought her car here for new tires. This was about two years ago (2017). Yesterday, we had to bring her car in to a Firestone as she had a flat, and the service center asked if she wanted all new tires, considering hers were 4 years old. We were very confused as we purchased NEW tires in 2017 from Pep Boys, yet they told us (and showed us evidence) that the tires on her car were from 2015. So this Pep Boys location put 2 year old tires on her car, which explains all the leaking air issues she has had, and told us they were new. They also showed us the "patch" they did on one of her tires when a small nail punctured it, and they said it was a horrible patch job. This is far from the first time Pep Boys has given us terrible service and we will never use them again. read more

This place is ridiculous. Had an appointment at 11am showed up at 10:30 for a suspension inspection, alignment check and to have them check my tires. I waited patiently for the first hour cause I wanted to see what my estimates were before deciding if I was going to repair or if I was going to go else where after the initial hour, I had to ask why my car haven't been started on and when they will let me know about what they found, I couldn't leave because I was still waiting on my estimates which I never got. Fast forward to 2:30 they finally tell me that they are going to balance my tires which they claimed they did, then another 40 mins passed by and now the tech comes out and tells me they couldn't do the alignment on my car cause they couldn't find the specs for my 2011 mercedes. I asked if they can provide me with the inspection of what they found. They said they found nothing. Questionable because all my tires remained untouched, tire pressure still read the same, and no inspection report was given to me but yet still charged me. This place is a joke the people working in the service department all needs PROPER TRAINING or something cause they literally don't do shit, sit on there phones argue with one another, eating there lunch while talking to customers and picking up cell phone calls while in the middle of helping. Please go else where as the people here are to lazy to do their jobs correctly. Side note I went to another shop right after and they were able to point out exactly what was needed to be done on my car without even telling them what was wrong with my vechile. I went just for a $69.99 brake fluid exchange I waited 3 hours. When they inspected my brakes they said I needed parts both rear brakes were leaking oil $101.58. And to also replace drums on both back wheels $154.99. And one rear shock was damaged $306.38 labor. Offered me 1 year labor warranty $52.08. I explained to the mechanic I had the both rear drum kit and both rear shock kit I previously purchased online but their total was still$700.85. I declined all the rest of the service I only wanted the break fluid they denied me service said I should not be driving like that, the car is not safe it should be towed home. I went to my mechanic shop and only charge me $250 includes brake fluid, rear drums replaced labor, rear shocks replaced labor. (I only provided both rear drum kit and both rear shock kit) read more

DO NOT go to this pep boys. They wrecked my car! I had my brakes replaced a month ago and enjoyed the experience, so i went back when i had run over some nails. They told me i had to replace the tire with nails plus the two in the back because they're old and cracking. Now I'm questioning if that was even true. I get my car back with my steering wheel facing 30° to the right, my tire pressure light on (which seems typical and no big deal), and my forward collision alerts not working. I go back and realize that my car had actually been run into something yellow (in a parking lot full of yellow poles and service bay entrances with yellow paint on the corners) and now i have a $2,717 estimate to replace my front sensor that pep boys broke. When i call to give/receive updates i get "i don't care" "that doesn't effect me" answers. Waiting to see if they catch who did this on their security cameras. read more

I called everyone in town - Big O, Just Tires, American Tire, Costco and a handful of mom-and-pop shops. Most didn't have the size in stock, and those who did quoted me $$$. I was about to just pull the trigger on one of the shops that had my size when I was reminded that Pep Boys does tires too. I called, they didn't have my size at this location but sent someone to another to get them today - AND they were a name brand tire at a reasonable price AND they were running a buy 3 get 1 free promo. Brought in my Jeep Compass (2017) for a squeaking noise it was making and ended up with a $1,000 bill. Now, they fixed the problem and brought up some other issues (pads+rotors needed to be replaced, low coolant, changed brake fluid) but that's not the part I'm angry about. It's when I look over the bill and it cost over $650 for a brake pad and rotor change!!!! The other $350 was for labor and parts to replace an idler pulley ($25 part). Wtf I've had rotors and pads done before at other auto shops for $300-$400 before depending on the vehicle. But god damn, $650???? This was an easy $500 job but that's not the pep boy way. When back for something else this time. I know for sure this place takes advantage of people. They wanted to charge me $100 for a diagnostic test on my car. For the same issues I had last time. I told the guy I knew the problem but he said he had a paper of things that might car might need. Guess what it was the gas lid not being tight. So they wanted to charge me for something I already knew what it was and telling me it can't be that it had to be one of the things he mentioned. I had AAA come to my house because my Prius was dead. They indicated I needed a new battery but they didn't have one. I frantically called a few shops because I couldn't wait until the next day...and it was getting late. Nobody could be bothered to check to see if they had the correct battery in stock for my Prius. But, when I called Pep Boys on Reseda and Sherman Way, Juan answered and he took his time to help me. He asked me for the model number to double check to make sure it was, in fact, the correct battery, Luckily, they had the correct battery in stock and he told me to come down and they'd replace it for me. He could have rushed me off the phone like the others did, but instead, he chose to be kind and to be helpful. When I got there, I was greeted and he knew right away who I was. The online price for second item was cheaper than store price and when I pointed it out to the cashier, he simply asked me what was the online price and he quickly followed up with "I can do that!". I know why the reviews are so low... The service and man power here are horrible. I know of other pep boys locations that are great, in fact I think the Culver City one is pretty good. I called in for a simple oil change to see what the prices and the wait looked like. I was told to come in now and it would be very quick, no wait. I come in and one man is running the desk. There is one person in front of me and another waiting for him to adjust some receipt...I wait over 20 minutes for him to tell me it will take an hour and a half for an oil change. That is ridiculous and not what I was told on the phone. Meanwhile plenty pf employees walked by during this time and offered no assistance to me and the person who walked up waiting behind me. The place was NOT super busy... A freakin week day and not during lunch hour. So thank you very much for the false estimate and waste of my time. The parts are reasonably priced and they carry a good selection and it is a large store. However, NEVER BUY TIRES HERE! I got a flat and put the spare on and went to Pep Boys with an extra rim with no tire on it. I was going to buy 2 tires. But, the tire salesman insisted I get a 4 wheel alignment even though you cannot really align the rear on my 4 wheel drive. Also, I had an alignment 1 year ago and since my SUV is pretty heavy duty, it doesn't go out of alignment unless I hit something hard or something wears out. But, I have changed all the parts that wear out. So, the tire salesman pissed me off. So, I only bought 1 tire. I called before and the man on the phone, known as Terrence, recognized me as soon as I walked in and was SO helpful. The mechanic, I didn't catch his name, was also very helpful and didn't treat me like an idiot. I run into men who will try to hike up the price on my car services only because they assume I have no idea what I'm talking about. I was pleased that they both treated me with ample respect.
