I am glad to have this nightmare experience with this place behind me! I am only giving this location the rating I am because (I am forced to) and even if I were allowed to give nothing I would have given it a one star due to the professionalism of the last mechanic who worked on my vehicle. First off, I scheduled my visit online only to find out that, according to Pep Boys representatives, visits scheduled online are not honored. This particular location see clients on a first come, first serve basis (or so they say). Each visits was between 2 - 2.5 hours. I had to bring my vehicle to this location on three different occasions before the wheel alignment was done correctly. The second time around I called when I realized the alignment was not done correctly (20 minutes later). I was able to get the representative I was working with on the telephone only to be left on the line for twenty minutes before I realized he had no intentions on speaking with me. When I arrived on the third visit, a different mechanic worked on my vehicle even though I was told the mechanic who did the initial wheel alignment must address my issues with the performance of the vehicle. When speaking with the final mechanic (and after reviewing the paper work provided to me during the first two visits) I realized the representative(s) incorrectly stated the reason for my visit(s) in the comment section of the electronic files. This place will never have to worry about my business ever again! However, I will say this, the last mechanic to work on my vehicle took the time out to speak with me and drive around with me, once he was done with the alignment and tire balance, before I left to ensure I felt comfortable driving the vehicle. read more

Took my car there because the inspection had expired, I got a ticket and my mechanic was on vacation :( They called to advise the driver side axel and outer tire rod was damaged and needed repair $600+. I declined. I later took the car to my mechanic who advised the damage was not due to wear and tear but intentional with signs of the axel having been cut with a sawsall. Went above and beyond. Brought my car in on the spare, expecting to buy new tires but hoping it could be repaired. Jacob was extremely friendly and helpful right from the start and I was delighted that the tire could be repaired. All the staff was very helpful, I heard another employee making sure a customer who had been in the day before got the tires that had been out of stock when they stopped still at the previous sale price. Left feeling happy with service and price. Until my tire went flat, and my roadside assistance wanted to charge me for a call since they had just put the spare on two days before. So, new to NY, two crying kids in the car, they're well past nap time and I'm 20 minutes from the store. I called Pep Boys back for help. Jacob and Mike came out to my car, put the spare on and took my car in to get 2 new tires. I went home and after the new tires were on they dropped it back off in front of my apartment - conveniently after nap time. So nice and helpful, my daughters were delighted to watch them work and I got the help I very, very much needed! Thank you Jacob! read more

I asked the young man behind the counter for a quarter inch fuel filter. Confused he insisted on looking up the model/year of my vehicle. I informed the young man that this was for my motorcycle at which he said that they didn't carry motorcycle parts. I tried to tell him that a fuel filter is a fuel filter, it just has to filter fuel. He then presented to me a 3/4" fuel filter asking if this would work. I don't expect that every young man working at a Pep Boys be a genius underneath the hood but in this situation I would use the term gross incompetence. After working late 06/30/15 and I'm in desperate need of an inspection I approached the service desk at 8:12PM and was immediately shut down saying the shop was closed. They're cleaning up. So if your service hours are until 9 PM and there are guys leaning in the garage how are they cleaning? Simple, they're not. They're sitting and robbing the company of time. I'll be sure to send my letter to corporate. Also the speeding through the lot in to garage bays to store dropped off cars overnight is unsafe dree and unprofessional. Terrible, I purchased a car battery Bosch May of 2017. It had me stranded twice. Corrosion from acid noted on terminals. Cleaned up. The second time I was stranded, I had my brother pick me up, closest auto shop was NOT pep boys, had to buy a new battery. When I went back to Pep boys they would not honor the 3 year warranty and would not even give store credit on a 200$ battery. So now I have a new battery in my car, and the other Bosch battery doing nothing. Lost 200$ in one year and Pep boys stink. Do not go. I'm boycotting and telling all my family and friends too. read more

Brought car in for an inspection. I was told my car failed the safety part of inspection for a broken control arm. They indicated I would have known this by noises/steering inconsistencies however despite driving 150 miles a day, I did not experience any of those symptoms. I agreed to having this item replaced, as I needed to pass inspection. I was told this would take 1.5 hours. About 1 hour in, I was notified that the part they had in stock, which should have been the exact part that I needed, did not have the correct dimensions. They had to order a second replacement part from somewhere else, which would take approximately 30 minutes, (which in reality it took over an hour). This is for a very common sedan,, so I was a bit skeptical that they did not have the correct part on hand, and also curious why they'd start installation without the correct part. All in all, what should have been a quick inspection turned into a 1.5 hr installation, which then took approx. 3 hours to finally complete. This was during a slower weekend afternoon when they had several bays open and several mechanics not actively involved in jobs. Throughout this process, my service representative did the absolute minimum to keep me informed as to the status of my service. Will not return to this or any Pep Boys again. read more

Had an appointment to fit a new battery, staff member informed a that the battery I had chosen was not the appropriate one for my vehicle. I thought that was helpful. But as a woman and not really understanding the technicalities of batteries etc, I asked for further details. The staff member was rude, belittling and made me feel ashamed. Furthermore, as I was talking to him he took a call on the phone, asked me to wait and never returned. I later spoke to another staff and left the premises. My girlfriend took her car in recently for work on her brakes/rotors. She has taken her car to this particular Pep Boys shop on several occasions since it is only a few blocks from her home and it is convenient. She paid $400 for the work. When she got home, she noticed that one of her hub caps was missing. She called the shop and was told that the technician who worked on her car left for the day. She called the next day and was told that the technician was not in. They were giving her the run-around. To make a long story short, they misplaced the hub cap and could not find it. They said that they checked the shop and did not see it, and said that maybe she hit a pot hole and it came off. This was not the case, since she lives only a few blocks away and she would have to hit a deep pot hole at a fairly high rate of speed for it to come off. And besides, the hub caps were brand new, purchased a few months ago at this same Pep Boys. They fit very firmly. The problem now is that these hub caps are only sold as a set of four, so another set of four would have to be purchased to replace only one. The problem here is that they immediately blamed my girlfriend, insinuating that she must have hit a pot hole. This is not the first time that she had a problem with this shop. The last time she had an oil change, they were supposed to check and top off her fluids. They did not do it. I checked her fluid levels and found her antifreeze and brake fluid levels very low, and I had to top off the levels. Misplacing and not putting a hub cap back on may not sound like a big deal. However, it is the principle that is the big deal. If the technicians fail to check and top off fluids, and fail to put back something as simple as a hub cap, it does not inspire much confidence in any other work that they do. If a brake/rotor job is done, how can a customer be sure that the technicians replaced all of the parts back on correctly or if at all? We will be looking for another place for service and will also let several other friends who are customers know not to take their cars to this location. read more

I went to pep boys to get my front rotors done, the next morning I noticed one of my front hubcaps were missing, when I called to ask about it I was told to call back the next day, then it turned into 3 days. My boyfriend went in person to speak to the guy who did my rotors which of course gave him the run around. Also I had went there in the past to have an oil change done and I had asked them to check all my fluids and found out they never did. I am so fed up with pep boys I no longer bring my car there. read more

Asked the guy how long an oil change would take he told me about an hour since someone was in front of me. Waited an hour and when I finally got back to my car it was sitting in the parking lot with a new inspection sticker. When I went back inside he told me "oh I thought you said inspection" so then I asked well can I have the oil change and he told me it would take another 45 minutes. Customer service order of events are uncordinated. I called the day before and was able to obtain an estimate for the job to be done, before I hung up I also confirmed no appointment was needed. When I got there the following morning I was the 3rd person online only to get to the counter and told appointments are accepted first. The problem with this policy if you to operate a fair business then everyone should have the option to decide on making an appointment. Done just make a sudden announcement of a policy. Old lady forced to carry a heavy car battery into Pep Boys herself. Yesterday, I went to Pep Boys to get a battery for my car. There was a two hour installation service wait so I decided to just take the battery with me. One of the employees, Mark, carried the battery out and made it appear to management that he was going to install the battery. Once by my car, Mark said he couldn't install the battery because he had no tools. Mark said he needed a #10 socket. Boy did Mark get upset when I pulled a #10 socket and ratchet out of my car! Mark started to remove my old battery and stopped, stating that the #10 socket would not fit between the battery and the body of the car on the right side and therefore, he could not remove the old battery. Mark had all ready removed the battery cable from the left side. Boy did Mark get upset when I just moved the battery to allow the socket to fit. Mark just was making another excuse to not install the battery. I think he also felt pretty stupid, as a matter of fact. Anyway, Mark was having quite a bit of trouble reinstalling the battery bracket, when I offered to help, he would not even answer me. Finally, the new battery was installed, but then, Mark refused to carry the old battery back into the store for me. While I was putting away my tools, Mark sneaked around the side of the building, leaving me stranded..with the battery. I am only 5ft tall and nearly 60 years old! This was a heavy battery, but I brought it in myself. I spent the $20 tip that I was planning to give to Mark on, ironically, Indian food for myself. It was delicious! Thanks Mark! read more

If I could give them -15 stars I would they made me sit in their waiting area for 40 minutes before telling me that a technician is not available to install two front tires it's the simplest job and they had half a dozen mechanics on staff there what kind of nonsense is that it was horrible customer service horrible communication and I'm never going back there again. The salesman taking care of me wrote up kept boring me with what kind if car he was building instead of communicating properly with his techs to establish that the work I required would get done. I plan on contacting the better business bureau and if my tire blows out while I commute the miles I was scheduled to commute that I indicated to your incompetent salesperson I will hold your entire organization responsible for any loss or injury. Furthermore I plan on filing a complaint with my congresswoman about the disrespectful men and their toy cars that congregate in your parking lot to drink and degrade women. They were very nasty to me as they parked so close to my car I couldn't even get into it. I had to climb into it. I'm so disgusted and livid over this experience after 10+ years of being a customer I am done. And you can check the file history at the metropolitan ave and forest avenue Staten Island location. THE OLE' PEP BOYS REACH AROUND ,,,so my alternator was on the fritz and i sent my girlfriend to get replaced at pep boys on metropolitan ave. being that it is sunday afternoon there is nothing open so no choice, right? about five blocks away car dies right in middle of ave. now we need a tow truck i find pep boys towing on internet so i call. the girl on phone is very helpful and makes sure to ask if i have awd and sends tow truck with flatbed tells me cost is 49.99 i say okay. my car gets to shop and repair cost is over 700$ i ask why and they tell me thier policy is that my car needed a diagnostic for 90$ where they found out i needed an alternator?.. i told them that i didnt need them to tell me what was wrong i already knew . they say i need a new battery, i say i have a new one already but they insist new. i complain to service tech on phone he threatens to push my car out to parking lot where they have signs all over stating that it is private property and you will be impounded and have to pay 300$ to get car back. so being they have my gorl and my car hostage i agree to fees, where upon i am notified that i have to leave car over night because they are too busy?.. so now my girl is crying and has no car and pepboys is reaching in my pocket for a 700$ alternator. stay away of shady practices at this establishment they are thieves read more

This location is absolutely horrible. I made an appointment this morning, got a confirmation and everything. My appointment was at 7pm. And i got there at 6:40pm. When i get there and tell the guy at the front desk of the service center that i need an inspection done, he says "you can leave your car here for tomorrow". And i proceeded to tell him that i had an appointment. To which he answered "i have 8 other inspections ahead of you i can't do it tonight." And i said "so then why was i able to make an appointment early this morning?" His answer "i have no idea, only option is to bring it tomorrow or leave it here until tomorrow." What is the point in making an appointment if they're not going to honor it???!!! I rushed there from work only to hear that i cannot get my inspection done and i then had to scramble at 7pm to try and find an open service center to get my inspection done. This is ridiculous. I will never go back to this location and i will definitely be complaining to corporate! read more

Yesterday my windshield wiper flew off my car while I was on the highway for a split second when that happens you feel like you want to stop and get it but not when traffic is coming at you 60 mph (LOL). I originally purchased my rain-ex latitude wiper blades from them and had it installed by them. So i went back to them and told them . At this store I saw excellent team work from Alicia the cashier to Dave the manager to Peter the service Manger and the two auto techs Victor and Jadon. Victor and Dave really stood out to me and are fine examples of great customer service because they went above and beyond and took that extra mile to help me. I thought I was going to have to pay for another one of those expensive wiper blades but i was asking the manger for a discount because it was really there fault that it fell off instead the manager replaced it free of charge. I was extremely Happy. I must also say Victor the tech was very knowledgeable and figured out why the wiper fell off in the first place was because the bracket for it or clip was too big that came in the package so they looked for a smaller one. If i was a mystery shopper I would have scored them with a 100 too bad I am not but I am so moved by this fine example of customer service I am going to write there cooperate office when I get a chance hopefully it makes a difference. Do not go there. They will rip you off!!!! They wanted to charge us $2300 for fixing the rotors. We said said that we had to think about it, and they called us 10 minutes later saying that they will fix it for $1200. We decided to get a 2nd opinion somewhere else. Went in to have a nail in my tire addressed and while I was there my state inspection. They did the state inspection which was appreciated but told e that the tire pressure was low, but there was no nail (despite me checking again right before I walked in). I even show the man at the desk the photo I had. I leave and check the tire again while still in the parking lot, and sure enough the nail was still there, CLEAR AS DAY. You couldn't miss it, the tech clearly didn't even bother to look. I went back in and they came out to the parking lot to take a look, one tech nearly pulled it right out before someone had to instruct him not to. That's when they tell me I need to have all four replaced. They went from saying my tire was fine, to me needing 4 new tires. Considering they missed the nail in the first place I didn't trust what they had to say and left. I've gone there for 13 years for repairs/tires in the past, don't think I'll ever go again. read more

After purchasing a pilot cargo bag at a pep boys location in staten island it began to rip and tear prematurley and without it being mishandled or over-stuffed. Returned it in Miami and got a new one which displayed similar symptoms despite us being as careful as possible with it. Brought it to this store where I had one of the most frustrating retail experiences of my life. Talked to Cita (sp?) who identified herself as the manager who was rude, nonsensical and combative the entire time. It was clearly poorly manufactured and I wanted my money back. I was not interested in a replacement as these bags are very poorly constructed. She tried to argue that because she had never seen these issues before she would not issue me a refund. I don't know what this has to do with me? Reviews on the pep boys site clearly show that the bag is poorly made. I then contacted pep boys customer service who said a customer service representative would get back to me regarding my issues. So far it's been a month an no one has made any attempt to contact me. I wanted to withhold this review until I saw pep boys make a concerted effort to keep a life long customer. They have not and here we are. Absolutely Abysmal! I called them up a couple of days ago just to see what the cost would be to get my brakes pads changed as my guy is out of town they said $100 for the pads and $99 for the labor found it to be quite outrageous because I usually pay no more than $35 for the labor but it was really the cheapest price I could find so far and the situation was dire and did not feel like waiting so finally went there today although they said they do come to find out they never even carry the required parts for my car (which they failed to mention over the phone) the one gentleman was telling me to go to the dealer get it and come back but that I would also need to get new brakes sensors as well (the typical NY mechanic mentally always looking to sell you something extra even though you never expressed an interest in it) first of all they never even tested the car to determine which sets of pads needed changing secondly you do not need to get new sensors when changing the pads third from the moment they found out what type of vehicle I have the first thing that came out of their mouths was oh wow you've got an Audi oh yes well sweet (all in a very suspicious way looking at each other grinning their thinking is that I am not a worldly man and so therefore I have no experience in price fixing how silly of them :) read more

I was really surprised a large company was like this but I guess every company here is susceptible to scamming people they think dont know anything. I was told they wouldnt do my inspection because I needed all new tires. Charged me the full inspection price with no inspection done. Went to another garage, they said I only had one bad tire, which is what I knew just by looking at it. I replaced 1 tire and the inspection passed. Spent 2 hours waiting for them to install 4 tires that were on sale (buy 3, get 1 free). Overall, it was a decent deal despite the fact they charged some tire warranty and tpms with the tires. After they finished up, I drove the car home and noticed the next day that they installed the tires incorrectly. The tires I had bought had a tread pattern that is directional specific. The arrows clearly point toward the direction the wheels are suppose to spin, however, the guys there somehow missed that and installed them backwards? Something as simple as installing a set of tires, the guys there messed that up. I wouldn't trust them to work my brakes or any part of my car. Avoid this this location, they're the worst! read more

Brought car in for a slow leak in one tire. When repair was supposedly done, and I got back in the car, the tire pressure light was on! OK, I thought that maybe they had just forgotten to put air in the tire after the repair. I asked a service person if there was a way to put air in the tire there at Pep Boys, and he would only tell me that the light would go off after I drove it a bit, which I knew was nonsense, of course. I filled the tire at a nearby gas station. Well, the same leak then continued to occur - nothing had been fixed. I brought it back to get it really repaired, and now the leak is actually worse than when I brought it to Pep Boys in the first place! I don't have this kind of time to waste. All of the staff is very friendly, helpful and professional. I've never waited longer than 45 minutes for any minor services to my car. Whenever I have any issues with my car I call to see if they can tell me what they think is wrong and about how much those services would cost. I usually also call to see how busy the store is before I come in so I'm prepared for the wait time if it may be longer than usual. read more

I have gone to this pep boys twice, and I will not be returning. The first time I went for my inspection, it went fine but the wait was long. Last week I went for an oil change, they tried to come up with other stuff for me to pay for, then when I asked them to reset the oil gauge in my car the next day, the mechanic took out the little sticker that tells me when I'm supposed to get the next oil change, which just seems shady to me. They will do their job, but the quality has decreased over the last 6 months. (between my two visits). read more

Very poor customer service. The staff is definitely very unaware of the customers time. I have dealt with this pep boys and another before and they keep letting me down. I had a scheduled appointment for 12PM and knew that they would take their sweet time so after waiting for two plus hours just for an oil change(a thirty minute task) I decided to ask what the status of my car was and they couldn't even locate my paper work and they realized no one had even taken my car keys to pull my vehicle out of the lot. I rarely trust any mechanic in my area but I don't know why I would continue or at least be hopeful that pep boys(a corporate mechanic) could get their shit together. It's not even busy here right now and I am still waiting as my car sits remains on the lot. Avoid this place as much as you can. I will not be coming back. read more
