I have gone here for the past couple of years and every time it has been a 5 star experience. Every time they have gone above and beyond what I expected. That is why I keep going back. This last time, however, I thought it might be my last (My husband has started going to an independent place closer to my house and he is satisfied.) But Pep Boys came through again! The story is that They made me wait for over an hour for an oil change with an appointment . They have a sign that says they will do it in 30 minutes. Plus, that's all it should take. After about 50 minutes I inquired and was told that it was almost ready. Then 10 minutes later another I spoke to another worker, who checked and said it is almost ready. I was polite but POed. But a few minutes later Pedro handed me "the bill" - a NO CHARGE for the entire oil change. Wow!!! Some compensation would have been appreciated, but this was total class. I will continue to go there and highly recommend it to everyone!! read more

Called to make sure they had availability and the person was like "um nope" and disconnected. Get a system that is accurate because had I made the appt and showed up to be turned away I would have not been happy. Instead I called and was treated rudely. Ed Schwann and Andrew the tech saw me waiting at the door at 7:30am to be first in line I needed my snow tires removed and 3 season put on. Instead of waiting to they opened at 8, they let me in and started work on my car. This was the essence of customer focussed operations. Best I've ver seen at any store. read more

Let me say - buyer beware. To provide full details would be too long so I'll try to be brief. Quoted $250 (after $50 rebate) to have full trailer set-up installed. After hour told I was all set - checked before leaving - didn't put ball/sleeve in car. Went back in & received it off sales shelf - asked about wiring & Asst Mgr(?) asked Manager(?) about wiring & was told they didn't do the wiring because it wasn't wiring ready. Asst Mgr told me he would order part & to come back & he would honor quote - went back and he told me he didn't realize cost what if we do 50/50 on labor & I asked what should that be - told about 2 hours & my cost would be about $125 extra and I said fine - while waiting why they looked for ordered wires (they were returned to supplier - ordered Friday & returned before Tuesday) all I heard was 2 guys out - don't take in any more cars today - my appt was 11am. They had to call looking for wires - would know by 2pm if they could get wires & get car done by end of day. I left car & walked home. About 2pm I got a call - car all done, my cost would be 1/2 o f 4 hour labor charge or $250. I said you only had car for 3 hours. Said I would pay & put poor survey & hoped to hear from HQ. Been a month & no word so going to Yelp. Wouldn't a reasonable person have come out before doing half the job and indicate quote was wrong? Would a reasonable person start the job when they didn't even know if they were going to get the wires? Finally - turns out the rebate is not a rebate but a prepaid card so my final cost for the job was $550 vs $250 quote. I won't be back! Had to give this one star to get out of review/posted! Should be no stars as far as I'm concerned. read more

Honestly I never leave reviews anywhere but if you're reading this do not come here for any service ever. They are crooks. So I already bought the replacement fog lights for my car and I was in the area and asked them how much it would be, they told me it would be 156.00 to replace the bulb. I swear to god. I started cracking up. I was offended that they thought I looked that stupid to believe it. They told me it was because they couldn't get to where my fog light screws in. I went to valvoline across the street and they did it in about 5 minutes and told me it would be $10. The manager from valvoline came over and said don't even charge her for that it literally took 5 minutes. We were all laughing no lie.They try to prey on people who they think doesn't know shit about cars it's actually quite hilarious. Just returned from Pep Boys in Salem NH, after I went there for a state inspection and oil change which I have done for the last 20 years or more. So I failed inspection and needed back brakes. Service person came out to waiting area and explained to me what the tech said. Needed new brakes and roters and my brake light was out. They charged me $18.48 to put a brake light in, (PATHETIC overcharge) $219.99 for brakes and $136.86 for rotors, then the clincher a $35.00 OTHER charge. Asked what that is and its a "shop charge", they charge that when your car goes into their garage. Have to be kidding. By the way I had my front brakes done up the street for $199 (Brakes and Rotors) Been a Pep Boys customer for a long time, now DONE! Will not see me again. The charge for the light is GAUGING, and the SHOP charge should be illegal, and the brakes and rotors are high priced. He said I could get a $60 rebate on brakes but system says they can not find my receipt, perhaps need to wait a day. Always recommended them but after this experience, NEVER again! read more

Don't bother making an appointment with them they do not honor it. On Friday October 10, 2014 I made an appointment for an oil change. It was for 7pm. When I arrived at PEP Boys in Salem NH I was told it would be a while before they would take me. I said but I have an appointment for 7; the service man said "Mam. there are only 2 tech's on and there are 2 customers in front of you". Really! Why do you make appointment then? I walked out and will never go back. I intentions of ordering 4 new tires for my car because the one I wanted were out of stock. Forget it. I will shop some place else. IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE GO SOME WHERE ELSE TO DO BUSINESS! read more

Great experience. I had an issue with one of the tires of my old pickup truck - it had dry rot from sitting flat all winter. They must have spent an hour sealing it to stop the slow leak and then, they didn't even charge me for it! read more

I recently bought 4 brand new tires Hancook Optimo's for my Ford Taurus 2003 , at Pep boys in Salem , New Hampshire on South Broadway , off Rte 93 . I was up in NH for something else , and I needed new tires soon . Well , the store had some great offers and debates they were offering at that time . I've done business in the past at the Dedham MA store some years back , and got a good feeling about the specials and that I needed tires soon . I went in and the rep came over and asked me the usual questions about what I was looking to spend , etc . He brought me over to the Hancook tires , and said it was a 75,000 mile tire and you get the cost of 1 tire on a Visa credit card , as a rebate offer . There were a lot of specials I saw looking at the different tires , and I went with what the rep said he thought was the best offer for me . After I drove out of Pep boys , I felt like I was helped by an easy going , experienced sales rep , and I got a great tire for a good price with the rebate included . I sat on the grass while waiting , and I watched my car go right in and the mechanic start installing my brand new tires , with a 4 wheel alignment . I had the oil changed too , and the whole time there was about an hour . I'm very happy with my purchase and the service at this Pep boys , and I'd go to any one of them , if I needed too in the future . . read more

I am so upset with the service of this place. I came in to get my state inspection Pedro Bobea who inspected my car had unfortunately left before I got their to talk to him but he clearly has absolutely no clue what's he is doing. Even the guy behind the counter told me he had messed up almost everything he saw today and he had to give a way a lot of free services do to the mistakes he had made. First of all when we walked in they want to change me $900 dollars for work that wasn't even done that they said was approved by me on the phone and wasn't approved at all lucky for them they hadn't actually done any work but wanted me to pay for it if they did I would not be paying for it. On the paperwork he didn't even put my license plate correctly nor did he wright down my correct milage. He wrote it was over 300000 and it's really just over 120000 did he even look at my car!? I have 0 confidence that anything he wrote down is correct is actually what's wrong with my car. When he called he told me that there was only three things wrong then when i went to pick up the car I was told 6 things were wrong that weren't even discussed on the phone. He didn't even spell breaks wright literally almost everything that he fail me for makes no sense at all. Nick was as helpful as he could be given the situation. I am so upset I feel like this Pedro guy has no clue what he's doing i feel ripped off . I will never ever be going to any pepboys again as they clearly higher people that have no idea what they are doing its like there is expectations at all. DO NOT BRING YOU'RE CAR HERE! I will now have to pay a different business with a confident educated mechanic to check out my car and tell me what is actually going on as i have no confidence anything he wrote down is correct. Pepboys clearly doesn't have very high expectations for their mechanic's as the guy behind the counter said he has been working there for a few months and this Pedro guy screws up daily. read more

I had an issue with my car and I needed to figure out if it was the tie rod or the controller arm. I got into a slight accident and I needed to have her fixed asap. I went to pepboys because I believe even though a franchise their prices would be decent. WRONG. The customer service was okay, but when they told me the price of a inner and outer front right tie rod needed to be replaced...850 bucks. HELL NO. The tie rods themselves cost 40 each and their 'labor' costs 400 each and a computerized wheel aligment would be 75 bucks. I told them 'I cant afford it right now.' and the person that looked at my car said "Good luck, your tires will fall off within a few miles." Oh, thats a good thing to say in front of a customer. Real mature. My father and my step father fix cars and they even said 300 is a right price which I also got from two other places. If I werent in NH, I would have it done for cheaper. Pepboys, you're okay for a franchise, but your prices are horrible. read more

Went to this store for a set of four tires. This review would easily have been four stars except whomever mounted the tires ($800) didn't take the extra 2 minutes to replace the spare tire in my pickup's under bed mount while the truck was on the lift. This left it for me to do in a snowstorm. It's the little things and the attention to detail that makes the difference between OK customer service and excellent customer service. read more

Entered at 8:30, needed to 2 tires purchased and installed. The person who helped me (Josh E.) was extremely helpful and courteous. My car was taken in immediately. During tire installation, the Technician (Adam A.) noticed the undercarriage protective shield was missing some push plugs and informed me that they could take care of that which was a tremendous help. That piece of plastic, if caught up, may have created additional issues. Service Manager (Butch S.) was also there to ensure everything was being addressed. First time in a long time to see old fashioned customer service in action. I'll definitely shop here again! read more

I had to wait longer than I expected and he noticed that and gave me a discount on the bill. Terrible experience. While in Salem our 4-wheel drive gear got stuck. Drove it to Pep Boys as they were close by. Told the guy at the desk we couldn't get it out of 4-wheel drive. Tech went out, started car & drove car around the lot then into the building. Tech comes to us and says "bad news" & "good news". Good news was they released the 4-wheel drive boot, but bad news was now, the car wont start. Said they didn't know why. We were puzzled as car started perfect minutes before. Said we needed to have a computer diagnostic (for $89.00) to figure out why. An hour later @ 2:30pm tech comes out and says its the fuel pump. Said its old and broken and if we want it fixed it had to be right then or they'd have to keep the car overnight. He needed an answer right away. Cost would be over $600.00. Fuel pump had been replaced 6 weeks prior and car ran fine until we brought it in there. Something didn't ring true. They keep pressuring me for an answer. I called our regular mechanic at home for advice. Said pump was brand new, should be fine and try to get home. Told techs not to replace the pump and they were peeved. Tech said we'll never make it down the street .We got in our car which started up right away, drove 120 miles to CT and have not had any problems since. Brought it to our mechanic and he gave the car a clean bill of health. Our mechanic said he believes the car started all along but they wanted to sell me a $600.00 fuel pump on a slow day. I believe this is 100% true. Dont't go there or you will be ripped off. read more

I started going to Pep Boys as a reliable cross-continental automotive company, coming from the Pacific coast, that a young woman could go to for honest car work, but with each revisit, the experience becomes worse and worse. Most recently, I had a scheduled appointment for an oil change (should be between 20-30 minutes), and it proceeded to take 1.5 hours. Why?!! I am not sure if/when I'll be going back even if the coupon deals can provide good offers. read more

Went there for a windshield wiper. Had hit Kmart and wanted more options. Found what I needed, took it to the register - employee was typing and might have been on the phone. I was the only customer at the register. He did not acknowledge I was there and seemed to do his best to ignore me. After that went on for some time, I just walked out and drove across the street to AutoZone and bought a similar product for $4 CHEAPER....Also, was I walked to the register, the girl ran over to the register to check me out and answer my questions (as I also needed another item and had questions about the wiper). read more

When I got home, my husband noticed the tire stem needed replacing and it was leaking air. I needed the car to get to work in the morning.We started calling tire places, but they were all closed! I found Pep Boys number on line and called. They were closing in 15 minutes, but said they would wait for my husband to get there. He drove the tire over there and they stayed and waited for him, fixed the tire stem and were very thorough and courteous. Now that is customer service, going above and beyond. read more

I have a few nice vehicles that I treat like babies. I contacted Mike and ordered Pirelli tires for my New Range Rover Sport. I have had a number of issues with town fair tire, however, delt with them because you couldn't beat their prices. Well now I know there is a better place, it's Pep-boys in Salem, New Hampshire. Mike gave me a great price on my tires set up my appointment. He was the best person to deal with, very friendly and professional. He set up a hassle free and pleasant service appointment on Sunday at noon. I met with Nick who was also very helpful and answered all my questions and showed me my tires and had the technician install my tires fairly quickly. He went over the tire and road service warranty. For once my vehicle was left in clean perfect condition, no greasy hand prints. I highly recommend asking for Mike and Nick if you are looking for a nice stress-free tire installation for your vehicle. Two thumbs up!!! read more

I made an appointment a week ahead of time to have my car inspected and was told it would take an hour. I dropped it off and went next door for breakfast. When I went back an hour later, they informed me that they had not even started it. When I inquired why, they said the policy is "first come first serve" and that another car took longer to work on than expected. I asked why even bother making an appointment? Their irrational answer? "You should make an appointment, but any car that was here before yours gets finished first." Say what??? Of course, if I were told this a week prior when making the appointment, I would have scheduled it first thing in the morning. I spoke with Butch the service manager, but he seemed annoyed that anyone would complain about such a thing. Needless to say, I wont be going back to Pep Boys for service in the future. read more

Very disappointed with their customer service. My husband placed an online order, and upon receiving confirmation of the transaction he arrived at the store to pick up his order. He approached the individual behind the counter, in reference to what the protocol was for picking up online orders. The gentleman behind the counter blatantly ignored his presence. A second time my husband made it obvious that he was speaking to him, at that point the individual looked right at my husband did not say one word and rudely walked away. My husband was so infuriated with the situation that he made it clear that he wanted his order canceled, and that he would take his business else where. The individual still did not seem to care. Sadly enough I must say I will no longer continue business with this store. I'd rather pay more money and get better service in turn. This isn't my only incidence with this same store and I do not plan on having anymore more mishaps. Behavior like this brings a very bad name to the company and should not be tolerated. Customer services should be for those that value it truly and have a passion for it. I also will be forwarding this complaint to the corporate office, because this is completely unacceptable. read more

my coworker warned me not to go here. unfort this was only place i could ( at the time ) find the cooper tires i wanted. the tires, 2 of which btw after 8k miles started leaking air bad: 10-20 psi a week. but regardless, im posting this to alert you they did of course break my tpms. the light came on the next morning after tire install. i called and made an appointment for repair but on arrival was told there was a 2 hour wait. sort of when jerry seinfeld reserves a rental car but there arent any when he gets there. isnt that what the appointment does? hold me a spot?..... "too many walk ins" i was told. i left without them ever fixing it and just live with the tpms light on and manually check my tires at certain intervals. read more

I setup an appointment to replace both of my headlights on my Mazda3 over the phone. He said it would be around $40. I show up for my FIRST appointment a few days later and am told from the same guy it will actually be $100, no less. Slightly irritated, I said ok. As I'm checking out, he says he gave me a discount which brought the total to $40 (strange?) and mentions that the driver side light works but has a connection issue and needs a new pigtail which can only be ordered through a Mazda dealership. I pay, go out to my car, and the driver side light is out. I walk back in, tell him the driver side light is out, and he proceeds to tell me he'll look into getting a new pigtail (I thought he couldn't order one?) and let me know when it arrives. I don't hear back from them. I call them back about a week later and they say they have the pigtail. So I show up for my SECOND appointment, 20 minutes goes by, and that same guy comes over to me a bit nervous. He tells me that the box the pigtail came in was empty. He said another appointment could be setup and I'd be promptly taken care of at the cost of the pigtail only. Against my better judgement, I agree. Again, I don't hear back from them. After another week, I call them back and he says he has the pigtail again. I go to my THIRD appointment, and do you know what happens? The pigtail ISN'T THE RIGHT SIZE. That guy is now embarrassed, extremely sorry and practically begging for me not to freak out. I keep my cool and calmly tell him that I will accept his offer to install the pigtail for free now and setup a FOURTH appointment. FOUR APPOINTMENTS TO FIX HEADLIGHTS. Of course I don't hear back from them again and I decide to never ever go back and I suggest you don't either. read more

If you do business with a place long enough, you will have issues. As a manager at a large multi-brand car dealership I can say that the times that you do wrong by somebody is how you differentiate yourself with how you do right by them. My girlfriend was planning to take her truck out for her first time (we're both proud Nissan owners) with my off-road club for a night ride on a Sunday. On the Friday before, I picked up a nice set of Hella's for her. One of them was busted. No biggie, stuff gets broken in shipping all the time. When I returned it to the store to get suitable replacement, the sales manager ((the receipt said Steve, and who had not appeared to have shaved or trimmed himself in several days) said "ok, give me the card you used." I replied "i'm not paying any extra," to which he said "Nope, I have none till Thursday (5 days). Have a good night." I left in a huff (admittedly.) When I checked my account from my smartphone, I went back into the store. I was told "Oh yeah, that'll take up to to 2 weeks to go back into your account...Don't slam my door on the way out." Now I'm out of the parts and the money. If he had offered an alternative, I would have jumped (probably even for a worse product.) I was very disappointed with the way this store's "Management" dealt with their issues. I probably will still do some business (though as little as possible) with Pepboys, though it will never again be at this store. read more

I need 4 new tires for my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I made an appointment online and when I went in, I was told that the manager called me and canceled me appointment. I looked at my call history and had no call at all from anyone that day. I proceeded to make another appointment for another day, put every bit of information in and when I went in, was told my appointment wasn't in the system and they didn't even have the tires I ordered. The man (don't remember his name) was very apologetic and said he would order the tires I wanted and they would give me a call when they came in. Which was supposed to be 2-3 days. 4 days later, I hadn't received a call so I called them. The man on the phone (wasn't even given a name) said he would check out back and give me a call back. Once again, did not receive a call back. I'm not the type of person to complain about bad service, everyone has their off days but this was 3 different times that I had an issue with Pep Boys Salem, NH. While I am not one to usually write reviews, I felt like I needed to go out of my way to write one this time. I have an old car that really is not worth the money ($2700 - at a different repair shop) that I have dumped into it over the last month but having no other option has left me at my wits end. Yesterday, my car wouldn't start and it appeared to be a battery issue so I made an appointment with Pep Boys for the afternoon. When I got there it was extremely busy and they were turning people away who didn't have appointments but they waited on me as soon as they could and were apologetic about the wait. I explained the situation and told them of all the troubles I have had recently and I was hoping and praying this would be a quick fix. They helped me out with some coupons after I told them I had seen a special online but didn't print anything out. Anyways, to make a long story shorter, they checked my car out, replaced the battery and it still was having problems starting, so they told me I needed a new starter too. After being told it would be about $350 total with the installation/labor fee they could see I was visibly upset about spending more money, they were able to help me out by just charging me for the parts. So I want to say thank you to a great team at Pep Boys for helping to save me over $100! I know it doesn't seem like much at this point but it certainly helped me out and I will spread the word.
