Being a business owner myself, I hate giving places one star unless you know, a fly in my soup or something. Although they probably deserve only one, I'll be nice and give them two. Over priced. STAY AWAY. From any Pep Boys for that matter. All of my friends have had nothing but bad things to say about Pep Boys auto shops everywhere, but against my better judgement I took my car in to this location because it was so close to my house. I brought my car in to have the fan grate replaced ONLY. My dad was a mechanic, so I know a little bit about cars and knew that that was the problem. After they examined my car, they tell me that I will also have to replace the fan because the grate had damaged it, which made sense to me. But then they added that I would also be needing a new thermostat and rear brake pads or else my car was going to break down "any second". I fought them on it, but they had scared me into getting it all replaced. My bill was well over $700. When I drove my car home, my brakes started to squeak (which they had never done before) and were stopping more slowly than before. So I brought it back in a few days later and the workers at Pep Boys insisted I was wrong and drove my car around themselves. I thought it might be that they just didn't let the brakes bleed properly after replacing the pads, but instead of checking for me they chose to get defensive and sent me home without a second look. They of course said the work they had done was fine, but now I would also be needing new front brake pads. They told me the squeaking was just that the brakes had to "settle" into place....which is absolute crap. They told me to drive around for a week or two and the squeaking would go away. Few months later my breaks were still shotty, so I took it somewhere else because I didn't feel comfortable returning to Pep Boys after the way they had treated me through the whole process. Found out from the shop I went to next that Pep Boys had used OFF THE MARKET PARTS. Not only is it a complete scam to ensure my car KEPT having problems so that I would keep returning and spending money, it is also illegal. The auto shop I took it next is helping me fight for my money back as well as possible legal charges. Sad part is if the employees were a little nicer to me instead of being condescendingly rude the entire time, I may have kept trusting them and bringing my car back in for them to keep destroying. I've been going here since 2008 and the staff before (Reyna, Alvin Filipino Mechanic and Martin Andrade) were absolutely amazing, their deluvery of service and communication was close to perfect which made me and im sure most the customers happy. Though I will have to say for the past 2 years now this branch's customer service and attention to detail has been extremely lacking. I have decided to write a review now because of my horrible experience today. The staff here now i have noticed have been horrible specifically talking about a mechanic named Chrystian (yes that is how he spells his name from his name badge on his uniform) and their supervisor/manager Raul Trujillo. I'm not going to detail what happened to me today but it's obvious that this branch and the employees (specially the ones mentioned) needs training in customer service, proper communication, attention to detail and specially work ethics. They are always a bit slow here but have treated me well. I've been over the last few years about a half dozen times. I had both my front and rear brakes worked on, have had my tires rotated, I believe my oil changed, my alignment adjusted, and just this week had my brakes inspected. They waived the $15 inspection fee though they had to put my car up on the rack to inspect the brakes. They told me everything looked fine, and cleaned under there. I'll shop there any day of the week for parts or accessories, but I will NEVER take any of my vehicles into their service department. No, no, no, no, no.... The "repairs" are questionable and they even replaced a rear bearing in my Explorer when it didn't even need it. While they did eventually give me a refund, I'm still scratching my head as to what they were thinking. I also had 4 new tires put on and they didn't even wash off the blue stripe. I don't know what to say, this place is just awful, and believe me I gave them plenty of chances. It's not necessarily the technicians, the do a pretty descent job, it's their customer service. Every time I go there with the exception of one time, I feel as though they don't want to do their job, they aren't nice to customers (I observed them, and it's not just me), and they don't answer your questions. Don't waste your time or money! I waited for almost 3 hours for an oil change and battery change. I'm a law student and not a mechanic, but based on my previous experience, the process should take no more than half an hour. I scheduled an appointment online and arrived on time so I don't understand why I waited 3 hours for a 30 minute repair. In addition to a repair that took 6 times as long as it should, my customer service experience was pathetic. I was not greeted when I arrived, and since this was my first time using a pep boys service center I was unsure where to check in. After a member of the service center directed me, I stood at the service check in for 20 minutes while two other associates (merchandise sales) failed to greet me and seemed to be avoiding eye contact altogether. When service associate reappeared, he helped another customer and then disappeared again leaving me at the counter for another 5 minutes without any recognition. After 2 hours and 45 minutes I finally asked what was going on I was informed that repairs hadn't even been started. I feel like I was taken advantage of and I will be sure to never shop or get service from Pep Boys ever again. After wasting 3 hours of my life I was told I couldn't use a coupon for my battery purchase and had to argue to get the service rep to accept it. Even with the coupon it was $160. So this is a just-over-50/50-review, but I want to specify. I think the company is great. This location is a little weak- it's clearly a management issue- but I do think there is an effort to improve. Unfortunately, it seems to be on the backs of the lower-level employees to accomplish this. I'm not sure what their company structure looks like, but someone at a regional level needs to take a look at this store, specifically in the service area. Service and retail are very different animals, and there is a disconnect, there. Service and mechanical is very different from sales, and if that isn't fully understood, some very big and potentially costly balls can be dropped. As very nearly happened to me when there was a miscommunication and I was told my car was done, after four hours, was given my car with the radiator service incomplete. If it hadn't been that I am mechanically experienced myself and noticed serious problems and shut the car down immediately, on a very busy street I might add, the aluminum block in my car would have been destroyed. I had it towed back and they made it right, but it could have been seriously bad. Kudos to Frankie and another service writer (Female, seemed knowledgeable, can't remember her name.) for managing a near-unmanageable situation. These people are severely understaffed. All that being said, I rely on Pep-Boys. They have an excellent rewards program and have parts that I can find in stock almost no where else. I drive a jeep which I do almost all of the welding and fabrication work on myself when I have spare time, which is rare, and I don't want to chase parts all over LA or pay ridiculous markup to one of the 4WD retailers or stealerships. If these guys get some executive-level back-up, they could have a really great store, here. Come on, guys. Help them out. read more

If I could give them ZERO, I would, but I can't. They're the WORST. Never come here. All I needed was some air in my tire and to see if there was a hole. No one came over to ask if I needed help. They all stared at me like I was an inconvenience to them. They have one spot for your tire needs near the garage area, which is located across the street from LA Fitness. Lying cheats!!! First off, these jerks schedule you for an appointment, but the "appointment" is pure BS. Their service is still on a first come, first served basis. They schedule the appointment, but the only utility the "appointment" has is to get you back in the store. Second, I dealt with Martin, the manager. After checking my car, he told me my tires were "dangerously low" and my brakes were "very worn out." He would not give me a percentage, as any other shop I have ever been to would. This was a HUGE RED FLAG for me! After taking my car to the dealer, I found that my brakes were only 40% worn out. I HAD 60% LEFT!!!! My tires were 50% worn out!!! On July 25th I took my car because it began to stall. I had lost a calibrator bolt somewhere and needed front brake pads and all the fun stuff that went with the job. I was also being bullied into getting my back brakes done to which I did not allow. Was told the car would be ready in a 2-3 hours due to being busy. Not a problem. Four hours later still not a word. I went in an hour later was told that the part they needed didn't get there it would be ready by 10am the next morning. I called the next morning was told the part was on its way it would be an hour. I show up two hours later and was told that the place was closed and that the other place the driver was lost/on his way. After being lied to multiple times and my car "not driveable" according to the staff I had to leave my car another day. The manager Uriel was amazing, apologized and gave me a discount. Fast forward to now, (just shy of three months) my brakes are squeaking. I brought my car in and was told it was normal because I "didn't have the brakes I'm suppose to" - ummm??? Excuse me? I've had my brakes done many times by my very good friend and NEVER have my brakes squeaked after. My brakes and job are under warranty and they tell me they will "this one time" replace them? Yes, you will warranty your mechanics poor job. My question is, if my issue was with the front brakes why was my back tire removed? NEVER EVER will be using Pep Boys again! (My back brakes are from Autozone and no squeaking from them) Autozone brakes last longer and don't give me these issues. In conclusion, the multiple lies, lack of customer service, and bullying are my reasons for not returning after THIS time. read more

They tell you that they have all the parts ready & once you get there, they make an excuse ( oh the computer shows we have one, but I can't locate it). Great customer service! Fast service! Happy customer! Walked in to get an oil change & filter change. First time there; was acknowledged by the cashier on the services desk with a happy and friendly attitude. Requested the service, and instantly started filling out the information in the computer. After 5 minutes of information, my service order was sent to one of the mechanics. They move my car to their services garage. The cashier said it would take about 30 to 45 minutes to complete my service, and boy was she on point. Waited no longer than 40 minutes when I got my named called, and I was out of this store. Atmosphere and interaction with other customers is superior. Will be back again for service. read more

If there was an option of giving zero stars instead of one then it would go for these crooks! Their service is below zero! We had a Mercedes Benz in for battery replacement. First of all, the guy at the counter barely acknowledged us! He never smiled and never gave us options as far as battery replacement. He said " $230!" It was like take it or leave! They replaced battery and never called us on the phone that the car is ready to be picked up! So we came back, picked up the car and we started driving home. 30 minutes later, we tried to start the vehicle and it wouldn't start!!! We called Pep Boys (this very same store) and they said they don't know what it is but "they will pay for towing service if it's their fault!!!!" Of course it is their fault, they just replaced our battery and the battery wouldn't start! Good thing I had roadside assistance so I was able to start the vehicle. We went back to Pep Boys on Sepulveda! Same thing again, same grumpy people at the counter and in bays! They checked the vehicle and they said it is a problem with short circuit! They said this is not their fault!!! I pointed out that this vehicle never had this problem before and that the problem started 30 minutes after they replaced out battery! They refused to help us out! This was Monday and they said come back on Wednesday and speak to the manager! These guys should be closed forever! The way they treat their clients is despicable! Going to this place is an equivalent of tossing your money down the toilet! And if anyone would doubt this review, please, let's see if Pep Boys would do anything to correct this experience? Any decent business pays strong attention to their given reviews, so if this was just an isolated experience that usually do not characterize this business then one would expect an apology form the manager and one would see his obvious attempt to compensate an unsatisfied client. I went to a Ford dealership earlier this week for a multi-point inspection and was told that I needed to replace 3 things: battery, air filter, and possibly a housing thermostat unit. They quoted close to $900 for everything. I turned that down and went to Pep Boys instead. Been coming to this location for 3 years. The manager, Beatriz, was very phenomenal and understanding. She acknowledged the discounts I saw online from the Pep Boys website. And since the job would take close to 3 hrs, she ordered a Lyft for me to get home and back to their store. Their service has always been wonderful. Despite all the bad reviews on Yelp, I have never had any problems. Keep up the great work, guys!! read more

I don't really want to give Pep Boys 5 stars, but I guess I have to. The short story. I had what I figured was a leak in the bottom radiator hose. Because after I added fluid it started leaking out. I had had an on/off again leak for some time, but never a constant leak like I was seeing Saturday morning. My regular mechanic was booked out and told me to leave and he would look into it Monday. But I needed the car on Sunday and this whole week. I took a breath and called Pep Boys to see how busy they were. The girl on the phone said to bring it in now. so I did. Agreed to the $35 inspection and left. Two hours later I get the call from Jonathan. Need new water pump, gasket, thermostat, replace radiator fluid--$1100 and change. That was too much, asked what he could to do. He got the price down to $895 out the door. They also changed the timing belt for that price. If you know this job, its not the parts, its the labor. Getting to water pump & timing belt is 2-3 hours. I had my car back by 4 pm. And I have to thank Jonathan for that. I just called around to check how much this job is normally and its an easy $1000 in most places. My original replacement of these two was far lest by my normal mechanic, on this day, I had no choice and no time. I can only say that it was a positive experience. But always proceed with caution... and a little knowledge helps too. read more

"Bernie" and "Martin" at the auto repair desk have absolutely no customer service skills and should not even be there. The products at Pep Boys as well as their services are the worst in town. Two batteries that I purchased from the store in the past two years were both faulty. I had to call AAA three separate occasions because of it. I went in for the same damn battery issue earlier today. What do they do? They made me wait for three friggin hours though there shouldn't have been such a long wait for mere battery check. When I went back to pick up my car they couldn't locate my car for twenty minutes. How big was the place? Not that big!! And to make the matter's worse no work had been done on my car. When I complained about not having work done in a timely manner Bernie gave me a major attitude. I asked for the manager. But this manager "Marty" was no better: No apology for delay or inconvenience, or anything what so ever. I was so pissed I got the hell out without having any work done on my car when "Marty" told me it'd cost me labor and the difference in what the battery warranty covered. Screw that! Why would a customer have to pay for anything to do with the faulty product that the store had originally sold!? I will never go back to Pep Boys again. I showed up and waited 10 minutes to speak with an employee. Mind you, there wasn't a line, just nobody available to work the service counter. When someone finally does arrive, I'm told it will take 2 hours. 2 hours to balance 2 tires? Scary to think how long it would of been without an appointment. I leave the car and 3 hours later I still haven't heard anything. So I give them a call, speak with a representative, who puts me on hold as she checks. While I'm waiting, I get a call from the service desk that my car is finished. How convenient. Worst of all, they didn't even fix my problem. Waste of time and money. read more

This review is for Ricardo regarding a standard 5,000 mile service. Car type: '09 Toyota Camry XLE, 4 cylinder. I know a lot more people tend to post bad experiences than they do good but they definitely deserve a yelp review after years of great service. Summary: -Quoted Prices --Oil Change 14.99 after $7 instant coupon, $10 mail in rebate --Tire rotation: 14.99 --expected price at register: ~$40 --Final price at register: ~$27 Talk to anyone about any auto shop and almost everyone will say how places try and sell additional products and services by either offering what seem to be good deals or insisting (sometimes when not even necessary) on getting products replaced. As we were taking down some details, he asks me when I last replaced the air and cabin filters. Saying it has been awhile (at least a year), he said he would check it out and let me know if it needs replacement. I asked to see if the tires needed to be rotated as well and he said he would. He then proceeded to tell me it might take an hour and fifteen minutes since he only has one mechanic and he apologized for the delay of getting to me (which was really only about 5 minutes anyways). I told him don't worry, I know guys are just doing your jobs as fast as you can and that you'll get the work done as soon as you can so no worries. (its about 6pm btw) Upon returning (in what was about 50 minutes) he gave me the invoice. Surely enough, he told me I didn't need anything replaced and that my car was fine. The treads on my tires were wearing thin so I may need to get new tires at the next 5k checkup but said not right now. Furthermore, there was no attempt to sell anything additional just handed me my invoice and directed me to the register. Total cost after the coupon: 26.38, and I haven't even sent in my mail-in rebate yet. This has been going on for over two years now and my car has never had any issues nor do I ever feel like I'm being scammed into purchasing things I don't need. Compare this to what I was getting at my dealership (Hamer Toyota, which by the way, was trying to charge me $95 for a standard 5k mile service... are you kidding me????) I'll be sure to add more information once I've had to take more than just get my brake pads replaced or my car serviced every 5k miles. Till next time, just remember to use the internet! How can you get an oil change and FORGET to put new oil in the vehicle!!! And still charge! Thank goodness the check engine light went back on the next day or else I would have no more car to drive. That is totally UNACCEPTABLE. Furthermore, I needed a new radiator for my 98 Ford Expo, and they replaced it, yet not the leaking radiator hose that caused the problem, and still charged me $804.00.. ($439.64-Labor by Jose Guerrero). I went to another Pep Boys to fix what Store ID# 0888 messed up(they even told me that Jose G had numerous complaints), and was told that it's gonna cost another $250 just to replace a radiator hose. If you're gonna overcharge, at least do a comlete job. I am a father of three children that needs his car to make a living. I was so disappointed with the staff i had a big pro lem with my AC ...they charged a lot of money from me like 1400...they change my compressor ...after 3 days warm air still blowing...now theu said have the condenser and clean the valve etc etc etc... I noticed a nail in my tire and went to this Pep Boys location next to Costco to have it checked. I was promptly assisted by a gentleman named George who handled my issue. I cannot stress enough about George for his professionalism, courtesy and most importantly his honesty. After checking my tire he called to let me know that the nail did not damage the tire and that there was no need to patch. I was happy and truly appreciate George and this Pep Boys location for being truthful and accommodating. Do not take your car here unless you have extra time to burn. I've been here twice within a week, each time WITH an appointment, and each time an hour estimate has turned into a 4 hour wait. The first time was for an alignment and a serpentine belt for a 10am appointment. Was quoted an hour estimate, an hour in I get a call saying it will be another hour. An hour later, I called in asking for a progress update to find out they put the wrong serpentine belt on, by 2:15 my car was ready with a lovely squealing sound everytime the car was in reverse, I noticed this the next day. I take it in a week later to give them another shot by replacing the brake pads and looking into the squealing sound. Another hour estimate leads to another 4 hour wait and a higher bill than expected. I am especially furious as I've lived coast to coast and Pep Boys is usually on top of their game. This local is a disappointment to say the least. If you have all day to piss away, by all means it's your life. However, I will no longer be throwing money at the slowest and lowest rated Pep Boys in the San Fernando valley. Consider yourself warned. read more

Never coming here again. I waited 1 hour for a battery diagnostic and then another 2.5 hrs to have a battery change. They told me the change would take 1- 1.5 hours and when the 1.5 hour hits they tell me they took appointments before me as priority. This is ridiculous! If you knew you had appointments already set up then you should've told me that on my estimated waiting time not wait til after. If I would've known I'd be waiting more than 1.5 hours I would've taken myself home ! Very unhappy with this place. Not to mention the guy in the front waits for me to ask about the status of my car to tell me that the change was going to cost more due to an issue they took 3 hours to find out about. When a car like mine approaches 200,000 miles all the seals dry up and leaks start to happen. I brought my car to Pep Boys on Sepulveda Blvd in Van Nuys to repair a very slow, hard to find oil leak. Long story short they found the leak but it took about 3 or 4 return visits to find it. It became very frustrating for me and the service manager Martin Andrade but he kept trying without charging me any additional labor fees. It was a very slow leak which meant that every time I would bring my car home thinking that it was fixed, the leak would appear 4 days later on my VERY EXPENSIVE driveway. It's been 1 month now since my last visit to Pep Boys. I wanted to wait for a considerable amount of time before posting my review. Happy to say that I am LEAK FREEEE!!!!! My only critique is that I never received a phone call from the shop to tell me that my car was ready to be picked up. I had to call every time. I've had my brakes checked twice and replace at this and the similar valley pep boys. While the customer service is decent, if lacking and slow at points, the repairs were ridiculous!! Saying the front brakes are new but no one knows why they re making noise is not idea, nor reassuring. If it wasn't for the watery on their brake repairs I'd I gone a long time ago to a business that did thins right the first time and not in several hours. Took my car three hours for a brake replacement the last time. And I saw four mechanics just laughing and hanging out while my car was hoisted up waiting to be serviced. Forty minutes later someone said they can't work on it till thy locate the other pads. It took them forty minutes to locate me for it?! read more

After a very passive-aggressive experience at the Miller Honda dealership repair place about a block south, I went to Pep Boys. I first told him that the dealership told me that the engine mounts were all bad. This was surprising to me since I had one of them replaced a few months ago. But whatever, maybe they were. The guy hopped in the car with me and we drove around the parking lot and he said they were fine. If they were bad, he said, you could really hear it. This makes sense because the last time I had to replace one, it sounded like an air horn going off. I told him that all I wanted to do was put the spare on the front right, and move the other tires around. He quoted me $30. After they did the work, I saw the bill. It was $30, but $10 of that was to mount the tire. I told him the tire was a full size spare and already on an axle (wheel? whatever) and he knocked off another $10, and charged me $20. My experience was pretty good. I do have to say that I stood there and watched the guy the whole time. read more

It was 8pm so there was no other auto shops around. And I was in a hurry so I ended up going to this place yet again. The cover panel underneath my car came loose because it was missing couple bolts. Since the store didnt have the same bolts at the moment, the technician used zipties instead. The manager Michael (who was very unfriendly and acted like he didnt want to be there) charged me $20 just for bringing the car inside. WOW. Place is fucking awful. Came here to Change out a tire. Called ahead of time and they said to come right in... i have currently been here for 3 1/2 hours and don't have my car. Now they want to change out my rear breaks because my car is run through Leaseplan and Pepboys loves to upsale dumb shit like this when they see the check is 100% going to get approved once they say "safety issue". I had a simple tire puncture, but discovered it Sunday at 1:30pm. Took the car in and as expected, long line due to it being the weekend. But they managed to squeeze me in, even though they were down a mechanic who had called in sick. Then there was an unknown to me deal discount that they volunteered which cut the already reasonable price in half. Came in today March 29th, 2018 at 4:10pm for an oil change on a Mustang. I waited in the waiting room until about 6:25pm and that's because the BALD GUY WITH TWO GLASSES never called my name. I would of stayed there longer if I never asked what was going on with my car. When I asked what was going on with my car I still had to wait twenty mins for him to find out what was going on. His response was "It was done a while ago" nor did he apologize or show any emotions like he cared. HORRIBLE SERVICE. read more
