I just left this place and I was very upset. I had to fix the light bulb in my car, I drove up to the station, barely found an employee who listened and said that he was not doing this and I had to go inside the store, I followed two guys from the side of the garage, they came to the counter and quickly solved their problems, and went out the door to the garage, I and another girl had to stand and wait, although the staff were not busy, after a ten-minute wait, they paid attention to us. I again explained my problem and asked someone to look at my car, but the employee immediately said that today my car would not be repaired, without even trying to grasp the essence. I had other questions, but he quickly made it clear that the conversation was over. it upset me and I went to the exit to the garage where my car was, from where another employee directed me and where other clients were leaving, but the woman started yelling at me hysterically, because there was no way to go there, but other clients came in and out, I was shocked and answered that my car was there, she shouted not to come to their store anymore. I didn't say anything bad to the employees, besides they wast my time. I was completely discouraged. Still in shock. I definitely don't recommend this place! read more

Last year, the Van Nuys manager sold me full-priced tires on 3 occasions when I was driving for Uber and didn't tell me about the pro-rate pricing Pep Boys is supposed to tell us about when we don't get the full life out of our tires. Also, each Service Manager seems like they hate working there. Last year's manager (Manuel?) and this year's (Suzi?) are short with the customers and seem bothered that we want help. Bad owners? I got the best customer service at the Granada Hills Pep Boys and they told me up front about the pro-rate pricing I was supposed to get. Even though I live a mile away from the Van Nuys PB, it is worth it to go to the Granada Hills location to get honest service from people who will find the best pricing and discounts (since they know what they are). Van Nuys won't do that, unless you get lucky with an assistant manager. At Granada Hills, you can relax and get good help. read more

First off, I'm a regular Pep Boys customer for the last 15 year, so I'm pretty familiar with their service. The Pep Boys I normally to go to is located near Downtown LA, but I just moved and I had a pretty serious leak so I figured I'd pay the one on Sepulveda a visit. This is the first time I have been to this Pep Boys. I went in for a basic oil change and asked them to check for an oil leak because my "check oil" light comes on every time I start the car and because I've noticed oil leaking from the engine area wherever I park. I told them that I had some engine work had been done at the Pep Boys in Downtown LA about four years ago so this might have something to do with it. I explained I don't have a ride and will have to do an early bird drop off. They enthusiastically said "No problem! Just drop it off, and we'll take a look at it." Later that day I get a call from them explaining that an oil change was performed but my car engine needs to be steam cleaned before they check for an oil leak. Surprised, I explained I've never been asked to do this before (either at Pep Boys or with any other car mechanic), even on a car where the engine hasn't been touched for 10+ years. I explained that I take public transportation and have driven my car an average of two miles per day for the last eight years, so I can't imagine it's that dirty down there. They said, "Sorry, you have to clean it. We won't look at it." Needless to say I was stunned and pretty upset. I called three local mechanics and explained the situation to them. All three of them were equally as puzzled with and apologized for what I had to go through and offered to take a look at my car. Unfortunately, I couldn't have any of these nice guys check out my car because they all work the same schedule as me, and I can't take too much time off from work. So instead, I drive my car 40 mph (because it was overheating) all the way to the Pep Boys near Downtown LA (where I used to go) on a Saturday to get it fixed. They said it was easy to spot the leak, they fixed it, and they had me in and out in one day, with no hassle or questions asked. I wouldn't recommend this Pep Boys for any service needs whatsoever. We were wandering around aimlessly for a few minutes and was grateful for her help. Then she popped up by the cash registers and took us to the tire center counter to get us checked out. Typically I find it nearly impossible to get help from anyone at an auto parts store. They always seem to be the least staffed and have the worst customer service. But my experience at Pep Boys was different. Miriam, the general manager, came up to me when I was browsing and asked if I needed help and was a source of lots of good advice. She helped me find products on numerous aisles and when a customer phone call pulled her away, she sent someone else to give me guidance and find what I needed. Miriam is one of the best people I have met in the customer service field. I wish I encountered more friendly and diligent and informed people like her. Paulette needs to get a grip. She is absolutely the most rude and disrespectful 'manager' I have ever seen in my life. I called this pep boys yesterday to confirm my appointment for Sunday at 11:00 AM and the lady over the phone told me that there is no appointment and I went through Amazon. I told her are my tires there, she said yes. I came over to have my tires installed and she's telling me a different installation price than the one that came with my tires. She told me it's amazons problem and not mine that they spelled my name wrong. Excuse me? My Amazon account has all my correct information. It was her who made the incorrect name through the system cause she's not paying attention! In the midst of me on the phone with Amazon and them telling me that she is scamming me! If I could give negative stars I would. I had gone to get my tires filled with air a few days ago and the service was less than satisfactory to say the least. Let me preface this by saying there was a white/Latin lady who pulled in before me for basically the same service (she had a nail in her tire). Not only did they RUSH to her car to offer help, but they had a much friendlier demeanor with her. It took that same lady getting out of her car to let me know how long it would take and what she was getting done (something YOUR EMPLOYEES SHOULD BE DOING). All 4 of you needed to fill her tires? I'm confused. Anyway, she finished her service and when I pulled in everyone basically was "busy" all of a sudden. I made eye contact with one and called out to him---just to be ignored and have him walk around the corner. I eventually had to yell out to the two inside the station (who had decided a conversation between them was more important than seeing if I needed assistance) to finally get someone to help. The entire interaction was just off-putting. I'm not saying I need rosè and a red carpet, but basic customer service would be nice. Beaware! Do not go there for car repairs! They do not do diagnostic inspections. The manager Susana charged me for an inspection and I found out it was a walk around inspection. They fixed things on my car that wasn't damaged and when I brought it back few days later, they stated "they fix what they thought was the problem by looking at the car but didn't test drive it, hook it to to the computer or anything" This is my first and last time. They charged me $1500 and didn't fix the problem, now they want $1000.00 more. They did agree to wave the labor but Susan came back and changed the agreement. I see why the bad ratings. NEVER, NEVER get anything done at this location. They are liars and con-artists. I went in to get my brakes fixed for my truck. After being told over the phone that the cost would be $285.00 I took it in. After 20 minutes I was told the cost would now be well over $500! I was told they needed to fix the rotors, brakes and who knows what else. The rotors were changed just last year so it's impossible for them to be "worn out". I took my keys and left. What did I do next you ask? I went to AutoZone and purchased the brake pads for $30 bucks. Drove down three blocks, went into a tire and brake Specialist on Oxnard Blvd where He gladly changed my pads for $60! And when I asked if the rotors were in good shape his words were "they are in great condition!" Do not get swindled into paying more than you have to. Pep Boys should be ashamed for themselves for trying to con people. In short: Pep Boys cost would have been $520. I paid $90 dollars for everything!! read more

Before I get to the bad stuff I need to Say the Mechanics in the bay are really cool. They are friendly and they are welcoming. Now... Normally I take my car to the Pep Boys on Lankershim in NoHo. Even as a walk in I am out within an hour. I recently moved and this location is much closer . I thought because I am Oxygen Dependent this would be easier I could leave my tank at home. Appointment at 1pm home by 2:30pm and on my Oxygen it's totally within my timeline. When I got here I was the only one in line and dude (Bernie) asked me to give him a minute. Ok Cool I am 10 minutes early. I then watched this dude fetch a bunch of parts for other peeps and thats cool too but he didn't even look my way after that. I didn't even get asked what was here for until about 30 minutes of standing around and it was by someone else even. Thank you Raul for Acknowledging me and signing me in. My next issue is Why schedule appointments if I am gonna have to wait 2 hours anyway. I know it isnt your fault the shop is backed up being under staffed sucks especially on a weeked. I would have brought my Oxygen tank if I knew it was gonna be a 3 hour process to get my oil changed. Next time I am definitely going to see Hector at the Lankershim Branch. This pep boys is awful. They put the wrong oil in my 2016 mustang and now it's spitting heaping clouds of black smoke. I took my car to a mechanic on Ventura and he asks me where I last got my oil changed. I seem skeptical and ask why, he says nothing gets in my car and revs it. Next thing you know his entire shop was clouded with fumes! He says man either your car has 300,000 miles (it has 40k) or whoever did your oil didn't put synthetic. He took me to the front of the car to show me that since the oil can't handle the temperature from my turbo oil is dripping out of my cylinder heads! I couldn't be more pissed off I call them and they argue saying we would never do that. So I went to my neighbors and found so many of them have the exact same experience so I didn't even want to take my car in so they can (look at it). My car is going to the dealership for a full point inspection and if they find any damages I am coming after pepboys for the damages. Save yourself the trouble of dealing with these brazen scam artists and take your car somewhere else. read more

Had never been here before, but I brought my Mazda CX-5 in today because the plastic undercarriage on my car had been hanging loose for a week or so. I didn't think it'd be a hard thing to fix, but it's something you have to get under the car to do, so I brought it in to Pep Boys. Within an hour my car was fixed and ready for pickup. What a bunch of ignorant, rude and stupid people! I called to see if they can put on my new tires and swap a tire pressure sensor with computer reset. Rude ass by the name of Martin, told me to bring it in. When I came in they were all confused because 22" wheel is apparently a challenge for them. I paid 140$ to get it done. 2 hours later, one of the guys who works there WITH A CIGARETTE IN HIS MOUTH INSIDE THE SHOP, tells me they took off all wheels but forgot which one had the bad sensor and they don't have the computer to check it. I just could not believe these idiots. No reset, no sensor. I could have got it done for 60 bucks down the street from my place. Next morning I spoke to the same moron Martin and he told me that I won't get any money back cause my tires are on but he can take my truck to Santa Clarita to get it done there. Would I really let this idiot take my truck for a joy ride??? I'm calling my credit card company to dispute the charges. read more

I'm disappointed in pep boys. I have been a loyal customer for years and it makes it difficult to write a negative review but i feel its necessary to report the situation that occurred. I have a check engine light that came on in my vehicle (ford E350 van with a triton V10). i took it to pep boys on Sat May 27th. at 11:30 am. Check in was quick and fast. I told them the check engine light was on and the vehicle idled a little rough.The guy at the front desk (I didn't get his name), wrote it up quickly and took my keys. He asked where the vehicle was and i told him. He went outside to look at the vehicle and came back. He said he would run the diagnostics on it and call me with the details.(cost was not given but i saw him write $89.99) I agreed and left. The same guy called me back at 12:23 pm and told me that they needed to repair a simple electric problem and do a different diagnostics .That this would cost another $89 dollars. I agreed because i need it fixed and they usually deduct the cost of diagnostics if the repair is done there. He said he would call me back in about half an hour. At 4 pm I receive a call and he told me that there was a small leak in the engine and that they could not repair it. I told him that doesn't make sense. "You can't repair a small leak?" I asked him. He said that they can't repair it and when can I pick up my vehicle. I just couldn't believe that he was unable to give me anymore information and they can't repair a small leak. I arrived the next day at around 3 pm and there was a different guy at the front desk. His name was Steve and he was unaware of my vehicle status. I told Steve I was there to pick up my vehicle. He asked for my name and he gathered my paper work. He then told me the price was $170 . I began to ask Steve questions about the repairs and why they could not fix it. Steve said it shows on the paperwork that there is a valve cover gasket leak. I asked why it couldn't be repaired. Steve said they did not have the gasket in stock. I told him I'm willing to leave the vehicle. "Why can't they get the part and repair it" I asked him. Steve told me he wasn't sure why they did not repair it and not sure why they told me it could not fix it. He said the mechanic was there. He would go check and see why it was not repaired, Steve came back and said the mechanic told him the engine needed to be replaced. I asked him why no one told me that before and I asked why wasn't that written any where in the paperwork. Steve agreed it didn't make any sense. I asked "so is it a gasket leak or is my engine really need to be replaced?" . So from a leaky gasket to now being told the engine needs to be replaced. Wow that's a major difference and Steve said that engine replacement is NOT written in the paper work. Steve said he would check again with the mechanic because Steve agreed that still makes no sense. Steve came back and could not seem to get a reasonable answer from the mechanic. Steve said let him check with his manager and see if he could not charge me for the diagnostics. Steve came back and told me there would not be a charge and he was sorry that this happened. Steve said he will be talking to his manager further about this problem and he was sorry again. I than thanked Steve for his help and drove away. I am thankful that Steve exhibited good customer service and was able to not charge me but I still have a vehicle that did not get repaired and I gave up my Holiday weekend to wait and have it repaired , I also realized that I was not given any paperwork when they received my vehicle and no paperwork was given to me when I left. So I now have no proof of any of this happening. read more

My car was overheating. My AC wasn't working. And my oil light was still on even though i had just taken it in to this shop to get an oil change. I took it in, they told me the problem and I told them to fix it. The next day I get a call the car is ready. Pay them over $1000 (mostly in labor cost) and pick up my car and start driving home. On the way home I start smelling a very strong smell through the air vents. I live less than a mile away so decide just to keep going and check when I get home. I pull into my parking garage, look behind my car to a foot wide stripe of liquid tracking my car. I look under my car to see a waterfall of fluid pouring through the engine. I call them to tell them what happened and they give me a number to call to get a tow back to the shop. Tow truck guy confirms my thoughts that it is gasoline cascading through my engine and dumping outthe bottom of the car. He tells me it's probably a hose that wasn't connected correctly. I bring it back and am told that "If the problem is their fault they will fix it otherwise they will give me an estimate". When I told them that there is no way it is my fault that my car was flooding with gas, they said it might have been a homeless person tampering with a car because they have a "homeless problem" around their area. I had to leave my car again overnight and had to Uber home. Got a call this morning saying the car is ready. 2 hours later I pull up and they're still under the hood working on it. I go inside and a gentlemen came to give me my key and said it is free of charge and that it will probably smell like gasoline for a while. I asked him what happened and he said "It was probably just an O ring that had to be replaced".... when my car is flooding with gas, i should get a better answer than "it was probably just......". I get in my car which now has no gas in it (dropped it off with 3/4 of a tank) and it indeed does reek of gasoline. This place obviously does not test drive the car before returning it to you. They charge insane amounts for labor but the labor is done at such a poor level. And apparently they have a problem with homeless people tampering with cars overnight. It's true that the customer service can be greatly improved. The staff is not welcoming, no smiles, zero personality. I felt like they are doing me a favor. I brought my car in because I thought the battery was dying. They said that they would check it. I waited inside and finally wondering why it was taking so long to test the battery, I went outside where they work on the cars and saw an employee asleep in the drivers seat in my car. I asked another mechanic what was going on, then someone called the guy's cell phone who was asleep to wake him up. When I came back later to pay and pick up my car, the employees at the desk were talking about the latest horror film they wanted to go see, printing out my bill basically ignoring me. I was standing at the small counter paying and there was a big dirty plastic cup someone before me left there on the counter. What really irked me was when the guy finally answered in the service dept he rudely said "uh I'm with a customer right now so you need to wait" I said ok? Even though it's a very simple question! I came here an hour and a half ago to replace my battery and use the warranty. At first the guy told me i was supposed to maintenance my battery which if that is even a thing no one told me and it doesn't say on the paperwork. Now after this hour and a half i get up from the waiting area to look outside and no one has even touched my car. They forgot. Not busy, they just forgot. Made an appointment at this Pep Boys to have 1 headlight replaced. Got here early and was told it would be an hour and a half before it would be done. The original cost was quoted to me as $30. After 15 minutes the service guy came over to me in the waiting room and told me that it would now be $75 to replace the headlight. When I asked why he said because the since it's an older car (89 Toyota MR2) the light assembly had to be removed and on newer cars you don't have to do that. I really couldn't argue with him because I knew I couldn't do it myself. When I made the appointment online I had to put in the year make and model of the car so I don't understand why they wouldn't have figured this out beforehand. Never coming back here. i had my car serviced at toyota. everything was aok except they thought i probably had 3-6 months left on the battery. i was quoted a price that made me think i should shop around before i needed one. pep boys had a sale and so i went ahead and arranged to have a new battery installed. everything seemed fine, i drove home. the next afternoon i couldn't get into my car (it's a prius with a proximity locking system). the battery for the fob was not dead, but i unlocked the door manually and noticed the whole car was dead, no interior lights and of course i couldn't start it. i called to see what my next step was.... 'you could get a jump or tow it here' no offer of assistance. i called aaa who came and jumped the car. i drove it over and parked. i was unable to lock the door with the fob as the system died as soon as the engine was off. jonathan told me it *couldn't possibly be the battery* but they'd check it out. i explained the car had been serviced five days earlier and the only thing that had changed was the battery. he shrugged. jonathan called a couple hours later to say they were unable to start the car and get it into a bay and he was still pretty sure it wasn't the battery and there was nothing else he could do. i went back and collected the fob. jonathan was surprised to see me since he hadn't listened when i said i was on my and he thought i was coming in the morning and yet: the car was left unlocked in the dark parking lot. i called aaa. they came and jumped the car (remember, pep boys was unable to jump it) and loaded it onto the tow truck (the driver was concerned the battery wouldn't hold me on the drive to the dealership) left the car with toyota overnight. explained the issue to my service tech... a completely dead car that works fine when jumped and then dies again when turned off sounds like a battery to him. surprise. it was the battery. there was a coating left on the connector and the negative wire was misconnected. this cost me $170 to diagnose. i had toyota go ahead and install their more expensive battery because i do not trust an item sold by pep boys, especially a battery that received multiple jumps in its first days of 'service'. suzi, the manager, said she was sorry and gave me my money back. i told her the installer needed some training. she told me he'd worked there for 25 years. i pointed out that this was not only sloppy work but that the follow up was unacceptable. she.... shrugged. what was she gonna do? nothing. though when giving me the credit, she charged me again... i pointed this out, she seemed aggravated, told me i was wrong and then looked at the credit card machine which read 'i agree to pay...." she cancelled the transaction and started again. it took her a long time to figure out how to issue a credit. three trips. two calls to aaa. i'm treated dismissively and told i'm wrong about the diagnosis. i arrived stressed to a job interview. my car is left unlocked. my dead car is treated with a shrug and a 'not our problem'. i paid double the cost to buy a battery from toyota and when i take the time to post a review on pep boy's own form it's breaking the rules to post about customer service and my post is denied. i saw the reviews for this location after i'd made my appointment and didn't cancel. that's my bad. everything about dealing with this company has been an exercise in how to treat customers like they aren't important. don't make the same mistake i made. go anywhere else. read more

I brought my car in for just an oil change and was advised that my brake pads as well at the rotors needed to be replaced. I was very skeptical so I pursued a 2nd opinion only to find out that the pads and rotors were fine and had another 15,000 miles on them. I took my truck to pepboys in van nuys and a manager by the name of Martin greeted me very professional and knowledgeable. He assured me my vehicle would be properly repaired within a reasonable time frame. After only 45 minutes he gave me an update call to inform me the the repairs were being performed and that the vehicle would be done within the hour. 25 minutes later Martin call me to inform me that the vehicle was done and that his Master Tech mechanic hade test-drove the vehicle to ensure the repairs were completed correctly.
