Made an appointment for a Thursday afternoon to get my A/C checked out. Showed up for them to tell me they had no record of the appointment and that the equipment they needed for A/C check wasn't working. They assured me that if I came in on Saturday, I would be able to get it done, so I came in on Saturday. When I showed up on Saturday, they told me that the equipment needed for an A/C check still wasn't working. Moreover, these guys want $50 to look at the A/C and diagnose it, and $175 total for a recharge. I drove down to Sherman Oaks Auto Center after leaving, and a short 10 minute drive away they look at it and diagnose for free and recharge for $70. So yeah, don't go here. read more

I had my vehicle towed here because of the cheap towing program that they have.They wanted 90 dollars to diagnose and told me that they would prefer that i took it to a dealer. This was after waiting a day for the master tech to be in. None of this info is disclosed untill you go into the shop which is extremely frustrating. Also i have used the towing service twice and both times i have had to call back only to find out thay no towing service was on its way. I would not recomend pepboys to anyone. At the victorville location i spent the night in my car and fixed it myself to avoid the terrible customer service and high hidden fees. read more

I wish I could give this location zero stars! I came here to replace a battery and to have an oil change performed. I was given nothing but attitude by a young woman named Suzy. There was no line and no other costumers at my time of visit yet two tellers refused to put down their phones to help me. They laughed and tried to appear busy but it was clear that they were not. So after waiting in an empty line for about 15 minutes I walked over to the cashier to complain and I watched as Suzy happily took care of a guest that walked up. The cashier sensing my frustration recommended me to a different place all together to have my work performed. While at the mechanic that the cashier recommended I decided to report my experience to pepboys corporate. I found out that the young lady (Suzy) was actually a store manager. So I was assured by the person on the phone that the incident would be looked into and that someone would get back to me to resolve the matter. Yet the person that they chose to get back to me was the very person I was reporting! I received a few sarcastic TEXT messages from manager Suzy saying that she is sorry that I felt like I had a bad experience. I didn't feel like I had a bad experience! I had a bad experience. I bought four brand new tires after Thanksgiving and before Christmas one of them popped. They wanted to charge me full price $100+ for the tire. I begged and pleaded with them to see if there was anything they could do since it had been less than a month. They kept insisting there was nothing, I called the customer service phone number and they gave me 30% off. They told me that any discount on services or tires was 100% up to the discretion of the manager who seconds ago told me there was nothing she could do. This place was completely off today... morning shift mechanics were seriously on their periods, especially the one that was assigned to work on my car. It simply shouldn't take over (3) hours for a scheduled car inspection to be completed. My car inspection appeared to keep getting pushed aside to complete tire replacement orders for customers who arrived way after me. What really gave me pause was my invoice... the times were completely misstated as if someone knew they had to cover their a$$ over what happened. My invoice was closed out by Bernando, when I asked him why did it take so long he said it was due to State requirements... to that I say, "run that BS on someone else, it was a 19 pt inspection for crying out loud." I left a glowing review in 2015 and have been happily going to this Pep Boys for years as my mechanic - oil changes, brakes, any repairs needed on my family's cars. Unfortunately, yesterday I learned why this place has such poor reviews. I showed up for my appointment on time. Was told my guaranteed-30-minute oil change would be "at least 1-1/2 hours, probably more". I asked what the point of an appointment is. Shoulder shrug and nothing else, no offer to make good on their guarantee, nothing. I understand things happen - previous jobs take longer, workers don't show up, but when someone has an appointment for a 30 minute job that you're not going to be able to honor, it would have been good business to give me a call about their timing issues in case I wouldn't be able to wait (I had to pick up my kids, so had an hour to spend at Pep Boys ). I asked to leave a note for the manager to give me a call. I waited before writing this updated review in case he made things right. No call. You can see from my other reviews, I generally give positive reviews because generally I'm pretty easy to please. Had they said, "of course we're going to do the next oil change for free to honor our guarantee," I'd have had no issue. Hate that I have to find a new place and warn others away. read more

I've been coming here for many years to service my family's cars. Something has changed. I try to be very patient and understanding that businesses are still trying to keep up/come back after COVID, but after my recent experience here, I can't take a chance with them again with the waste of my time. Appointments here used to mean they see the people with appointments at the appointed time and fit in others as they can. This time with a 9:30 appointment, my car hadn't even been started on at 10:45. The nice woman at the counter said they still had 11 cars ahead of me (at 9:30!). So either they're WAY overbooking or not prioritizing appointments. A simple "we're running behind" when I checked in and I could have made a decision. For many years, a 9:30 or 10:00 appointment would mean I'd be done in an hour. 2 stars instead of the 1 I'd like to give, because the employees really are very nice. After being in another pep boys and having them call over to find out if Van Nuys had my part (light bulb) and if they could install it, I go over to the store to buy the lightbulb and have it put into my car. Seems logical. they have no idea what I'm talking about, say they didn't get any call. Then they won't even look at my car to let me know if I'm buying the right bulb let alone install it unless I pay $20 and wait an hour, After I've already been at a pep boys for over an hour getting my oil changed. To top it off the service attendant said that every Pep Boys works differently so just because I got good service at another one doesn't mean I'll get it at this one. Well that was obvious. Poor customer service in the Service Department. They see you waiting in line and walked away without any acknowledgement. Walking inside, outside and all around, didn't acknowledge any of the customers in line. Their attitude is less than desirable; I feel like going to the DMV or going to a Chinese restaurant. All the customers in line I noticed had to chase somebody to get service. The Store Manager needs to improve his/her team at this location. Don't come here. Go to another location. It's interesting to note that with a lot of negative reviews, the reply from Pep Boys is to contact their Customer Service.... Yet they continue to receive negative comments throughout. Wow. Don't know where to start. So I made an appointment the day prior for 8am. Got there at 8:05am. The guy told me it will take about 3 hours. Ok. I left my keys and waited in the parking lot. Two homeless ppl sleeping just outside the main entrance, trash all over, even in the parking lot where they work. While waiting for my ride 1 hr., I noticed 3-4 cars go before mine (What was the point of making an appointment?) Left. 1pm came around and i Got a call from this guy with the Mohawk looking hair (by the way horrible attitude) call me and told me that it was going to cost $989 dollars to fix my radiator. HORRIBLE. I created an on-line appointment for "early bird" drop-off (i.e., before 8 AM). I checked with them the day before and they told me to just come do the paperwork and leave my keys in the drop-box. I did. The car sat ALL day and they never ever touched it. They gave me a generic sorry saying "we don't usually check the drop-box" and "most people don't do early bird drop-offs with appointments". I stopped in at this Pep Boys location Saturday evening at 6pm with a punctured tire that was slowly going flat. As I approached the service counter, the man working the counter couldn't seem to be bothered to help me. I explained the problem and asked if they could repair or replace the tire. He checked in at the back and said they were too busy and would not be able to service my car that night. No further explanation or suggestions of help. So, I asked him if I could leave the vehicle there overnight to be serviced in the morning. He reluctantly agreed and started to process the paperwork. After glancing at my tire (while still on the car) he said it was not repairable and I would need to replace it. I relied on his expertise and said ok, let's do it. Unfortunately the location did not have the needed tire. He came back and told me they couldn't help, but suggested I go to the Pep Boys location in Panorama City. I explained that I could not drive the car as the tire was slowly leaking and would soon be flat. I asked if they could get the tire from the other location. He told me no, that to do so would take until Monday or Tuesday at the earliest. Resigned that this man clearly did not want to help me in any way, I decided that my only option now was to try to limp my vehicle to the Panorama City location. I'm not from the area and asked for directions to which I was told, it was just ten minutes up the road (no real direction). I was shocked at the lack of help or willingness to even spend a moment making sure I knew where I was going or that the other location was prepared for my arrival. He didn't call the other location to be sure they had the inventory or give them a heads up that I was headed their way. As I was standing at the counter, contemplating what to do next, the man just shrugged and walked away from me. I have NEVER in my life received such a shockingly low level of customer service. To top it all off, I am very clearly 7 months pregnant. Who sends a pregnant customer out at night, with a tire that will be flat without any sort of guidance or help? About 1/2 mile from the store, the tire went completely flat and I was left stranded on the side of the road.... If I could give negative stars, I would. I will never use another Pep Boys store for any type of car service, ever. I recommend others avoid this particular location at all costs. read more

DO NOT GO HERE I took my sister's car for 4 new tires spent $580 and the guy who "helped" us with our purchase said it would take an hour and 1/2 to 2 hours tops.. at the 2 hour mark I called to check if the car was ready they said they had trouble finding the tires I had purchased.. my response was "so you sold me tires you didn't even have in stock?.." his answer was they couldn't find them in their stock room.. so I asked how much longer he says 45 more minutes.. after 45 minutes pass I call again and he says it's gonna be 15 more minutes.. they now have had the car for 3 hours needless to say I was thoroughly annoyed.. I show up to the store the car is still on the lift with no one to be found in the service bay.. when I went into the store he says they're finishing up the alignment I then asked him what the hell they had been doing for the past 3 hours he reverts to the couldn't find they tires and that caused a delay what should have taken "2 hours tops" ended up taking 4 hours bottom line I will never in my life purchase anything from pep boys ever again not just this location but all locations their lack of customer service is an embarrassment to the company name read more

STAY AWAY!! They will lie and mislead you in anyway they can. Your time and money will be better spent anywhere else. I came to get my break pads replaced, and everything went wrong. Moe was the mechanic that helped me in the front desk. I told him that I needed to get all of my break pads replaced and asked him how much everything would cost. He informed me that for my car, ceramic break pads are recommended and the total would come to be $209. I asked him if that was just the cost of the break pads or the total with labor. He assured me that it was the total after everything- pads and labor. So i consented the go ahead to change my break pads. An hour goes by, I receive a call from him recommending me to get all my rotors replaced. He spouted some numbers of standard spec minimums, I wrote them down because I know nothing about rotors. He told me that minimum for the front is 983 thousands and mine were at 995, the back ones minimum were 362 and mine were at 338. So I should definitely change them all, especially since they will shave another 10 off if I just want to get my breaks replaced. I had no idea what to do, but lucky me, I have a boyfriend who does. My wonderful boyfriend came to take a look at what was going on. What we found out after talking a different mechanic who was working on my car who gave me completely different numbers -- he hold me my front rotor was at 1085, and my back one was at 368... so now they both exceed the minimum unlike the first set of numbers Moe told me. But just to be sure, my boyfriend asked him if he could see how he was measuring the rotors. So he pulled out a caliper (which was clearly not working properly, it was taped together and he had to zero it multiple times before it read any numbers), and what happened you ask? Well, that back rotor that was originally at 338 according to Moe and then 368 according to this mechanic working on my car is now reading a 382. Which means both of my rotors are above minimum standards. SO we ask again, do they still recommend me change my rotors? And yes of course they do, because after they shave off another 10 it's going to be really close to the minimum standard. We asked if he could shave off less, he said yes, but maybe the machine would shave off more. I concluded that I don't need rotors and please continue to replace my break pads. At this time, I asked again how much everything was going to cost. Again, I was told $209 for everything, unless I wanted to go with the standard which was $130. I told him the $209 was still good to go since it was recommend for my car. He said it will be ready in 2 hours. I leave. 2 hours pass, no calls. 3 hours pass, still no phone call. So I decided that I'll just go see if they are done. It was. There was a shift change, so no one notified me that my car was ready to pick up. I wasn't too upset though. I get my bill.. $450 SOMETHING DOLLARS!!! I was extremely caught off guard since that number was never mentioned in any of time multiple times I asked about the price. I asked to speak to the manager. He wasn't there. So the assistant manager Alex helped me. I told him about Moe and his quote of $209. Apparently Moe failed to mention that it was $209 per Axel. Apparently "ALL MY BREAK PADS" and "THE TOTAL FOR EVERYTHING" means HALF my break pads, and HALF the total. The assistant manager Alex told me the most he can do is give me a promotional discount of 15% off the service. I pulled out my 20% coupon that I got the mail. "oh that's even a better deal!" Alex exclaimed. I asked if I could at least get the 15% off on top of my 20% off coupon. He said no. I got quoted $209 for EVERYTHING, expected to pay $168 after discount, and was Billed $450. So I asked them to put my old break pads back on and Ieft paying them NOTHING. I am going to Firestone tomorrow and paying them $198 for EVERYTHING! That is $99 per AXEL.. just to clarify. read more

I meant to review a few months ago! Doh... And I sincerely wish I had.. Perhaps the reviewer before me wouldn't have gone to them... My friends took their car there and I was their driver for picking up the car. The keys were missing. PepBoys offered to have someone copy a key, but I am pushy so I insisted that it wouldn't solve the key to have a copy of one roaming around god-knows-where. They assured my friends (and bossy-me) that even if someone found their key, they wouldn't be able to start the car with it, only open the doors. My friends and I said we weren't comfortable with anyone being able to get into their car and trunk. And I reminded the guy at PepBoys that their electronic keys were paired, so they would still need another key reprogrammed... The worst part was when we were waiting for a towtruck to tow their car to a dealer to fix the problem and make new keys...The Pep Boys guy was treating me like a silly woman for pushing my friends to abandon PepBoys.... and I asked if this was a common occurance, and he said that YES it was... So, I went here for an oil change on Saturday. Quick and easy job, no? Should be simple. He wanted to charge me nearly $80 for a synthetic oil change on my 2001 Camry V6. Crazy huh? I actually had to haggle down for a reasonable price. Thankfully, I brought in a competitor's coupon and a rewards card to bring it down a bit. Here's the kicker: The service representative tried to justify the high price by saying the price for an oil change on a 4 cylinder engine is lower because fewer parts are involved. This place is pathetic. I called ahead of time to make sure they did inspections for Lyft and was assured they did. I drove here and after waiting for 10 minutes in a line of zero people, I was told they don't do Lyft inspections. Lyft clearly states that you can go to "any Pep Boys" for the inspection. When I pulled up the information from Lyft, Anthony took a phone call and spent minutes on the phone while I was waiting. Totally inappropriate. Everyone walks away and NOW, I've been sitting here for the past 30 minutes waiting for ANYONE to put Air in my tires. I usually go to the Pep Boys in Hollywood. They told me I had a small leak in my power steering fluid but that I was welcome to come have my fluids checked for free if I couldn't get it fixed right away. A couple weeks later, I found myself in the valley doing errands, so I went to this Pep Boys location to check on things. I explained the issue to the girl at the front desk, specifically stating that I already had a diagnostic done. Her response? "You'll need to perform a diagnostic, it'll cost blah blah blah." Ummm, remember two seconds ago when I told you I already had done that? Once she realized she wasn't going to be able to scam money out of me, they had someone begin work on my car and I went around to the work area. I asked a manager if he could have the mechanic look to see if I had screwed in my tail light properly because it seemed to be going out at times. "Oh, we'll need to do an electrical diagnostic for $98 in that case." Oh yeah, that seems totally necessary. I'll pass. When I asked how long checking the fluids would take, the manager snapped, "He's working on it now." Yup, I can see that. Not the answer to my question. All in all, it was a crappy experience. No one there listened to me or cared about taking all of five minutes to just do what needed to be done on my car even. Instead, they were only focused on coercing me into spending $$$ I didn't need to spend. Great way to treat a returning Pep Boys customer. I'm sticking with the Hollywood location. read more

It's been a long road with Pep Boys. We have used them many times over the years for things that seem "not too complicated" but I don't trust them to do deep diagnoses. Recently our 2000 Honda Accord V6 has been hesitating when accelerating. It's driving my wife crazy because nobody can pin down the trouble. We have been to Pep Boys at least FOUR times since October on this and we have spent over $1,000.00 replacing Oxygen sensors, idle valves, thermostats, fuel system cleaner, etc. And the trouble persists. They also have a very difficult time with logistics. I dealt with the Service Manager Martin as much as possible, but for example, when I tried to reach him by phone, I called three times on a weekday and left messages to no avail. Once, the mechanic came out of the shop and came to the service counter to discuss parts with me at the computer. He had a great deal of trouble manipulating the PC but there was no one else there who could do it, and this man eventually sent me home unhappy. Bottom line: If it is something simple, like brakes, they might be OK for that. But for something requiring a lot of thought or discussion, forget it. Go instead to someone who specializes in your brand of car. read more

Thank goodness this Pep Boys is in the same shopping center as Costco, because I would've been left stranded a couple of a times. The first time I'm referring to is when I had a flat tire and drove with my spare on over to Costco. They're supposed to have a really good tire center there but when I went in to ask for a tire, they didn't carry any tires for my car (an 88 Honda Accord, not exactly a rare car). So, I walked over to pep boys and thank goodness they had the right tire for my car. I wasn't about to drive around Van Nuys with my spare on. The price was reasonable and the service was friendly and very prompt. On my second visit to Pep Boys, I again went to Costco first for a new battery. Of course, Costco didn't have the right battery for my car and I was like, "WTF!!!" So, again, I walked over to Pep Boys, who actually had a battery for my car. I purchased one and had my boyfriend install the battery. Again, the employees were helpful and picked out a battery for me (because I'm a ditz and was couldn't read the stupid do it yourself battery info thingy). Let me just say, thank goodness for AAA because a few weeks later, my battery went dead! A brand new battery, what the hell Pep Boys?! So I got a jump, drove back over to Pep Boys, they tested my battery, and yup, they sold me a bad one. The replaced it for free since it was still under warranty and I paid $8 to have the new one installed. It's hard to find a good mechanic, so I'll probably still go back to Pep Boys, but with caution. read more

I asked how long it would take to fix, they said 20 minutes. Other places had said an hour so I decided to go a bit further to save $ and get it done more quickly. I asked: if it takes me 30 mins to get over there, can it still be done in 20 mins? They assured me yes, they had the tire in stock, so I made an appt with them over the phone. We got there and was told, no it would take an hour. I told them I was assured over the phone it would be 20 mins. They said, sorry, they'd try to rush it along. They asked me to stay there while they checked to make sure they had the tire, despite telling me they did. The guy didn't come back for 30 mins. So I asked another employee who worked service to check on our car and see if we could run over to the Costco to get hot dogs, since there isn't much walkable in 100 degrees around that area. He said go ahead, they were just getting to our car. I got a missed call as I was finishing eating that said the tire was not actually in stock, but they were sending someone to the nearest Pep Boys to grab one. That would take them about 30 minutes probably, and then they could start on the car. We had now been there for an hour and a half. Completely frustrated, we got our key back and found our car still in the lot where we left it, not up in the service center as they had indicated. This place gets 1star and 1st rating from me. Manager approached us and all we needed was a battery test which takes a minute told us to wait 30 minutes. Get out of here with ur bs, don't want to help just tell us straight up. Time to expose all this lazy no good spots. read more
