Came here because of all the great reviews and because we were just tired of Subway and Jimmy John's. We were not disappointed. I had the Windy City Cheesesteak and my bottomless-pit son had the turkey club, both with everything on it including the original guts. To me, the guts were a little on the salty side but tasty. The boy loved them; he kept scooping up the guts that fell off my sandwich onto his. My cheesesteak was flavorful and tender (I've had many a cheesesteak where the steak was bland and chewy). The boy said his sandwich was delicious and finished every last bite. Their seating area was spacious, clean, and well kept. Service was friendly and fast. Will definitely be coming back. read more

I got a delicious Italian sub with the garlic guts. "Guts" are their homemade relishes that they pile on so deep they give you a fork with the sandwich. Between the guts and the generous toppings, a 7" sub felt like a complete meal unto itself (and I am not a light eater). The shop was clean and pleasant, with plenty of seating. I really enjoy Peppos sandwiches and I always get the jalepeno guts! What I learned today though was always, always stick with the sandwiches - that's what they are known for and that's what they're good at! I tried the Tamale Boat and the Peppo dog today - I was not impressed. The tamale boat was served in a soup bowl, basically it was a cut up tamale with a bowl of Hormel chili, cheese and onions on top. The Peppo dog was a hot dog with their guts on top. The dog was a bit cold in the center and the guts are much better on a sandwich. I love their sandwiches! I should've known better to deviate from what I know is good. read more

Darn it!!!! I am just so mad at myself for wasting $10. These are horrible. The picture attached is the famous "guts." LOL. What a joke. Every single time I try a new sandwich place I am disappointed. I suppose having lived on the East Coast most of my life and then the next part the West Coast most of my life, I am used to things that are less bland and generic like this. This place is just like Subway. There is no difference at all. I'm so disappointed. i'm desperately in my car trying to make this sandwich better by having to take it apart and dump some of it in the parking lot. This is ridiculous. The woman behind the counter was really kind but the gentleman who worked with her who came up and interrupted my order to ask her a question about music or something, was pretty darn rude. I don't like to post negative reviews because it affects people's livelihood but this place, I'm just so disappointed. I have higher standards I guess. Just left there.. used to love that place.. famous for there fresh guts on there Sammy's.., guts ate diced onion, pickle , tomato and u can get fresh jalapeño,, gave that sandwich a nice fresh crunch ,, not anymore unfortunately.. now it's wet soft crap.. and u ask for jalapeño guts and they just drop a cup of hot giardinara in there which makes it wet ,soft and greezy .. cutting corners to save a few bucks.. stinks cuz I've been eating there for the last 20 years.. hope this message makes it to the owner and they go back to there old ways .. Not sure how I missed this hidden gem. After a nearby search on the CBTV app, I made my way in for my first visit. I love to support a great little family business, they're just 5 months away from their 40th anniversary. I went with the #4 as featured on Chicago's Best TV. I wish there was a bit more meat, but it's a great value and the 7" certainly filled me up. I spilled my guts and really enjoyed the overflow of pickles, tomatoes, onions and top secret herbs and spices. Looking forward to seeing what kind of anniversary celebration is in store... perhaps a flash back to 1976 pricing? Or maybe they'll honor an old price from a past menu you held onto? What can I say that hasn't already been said. This place is HANDS DOWN, my favorite sub place. Not only do they have the best food around, but their service is great too. I always feel welcome there, and you always know your business is appreciated. The legend himself, Mr. Peppo is often in the store to serve you subs. First timers should try the #4, the house favorite. Their Peppo's Dog is pretty good too, worth a try for under $2. It's dining room has limited seating, and it can get pretty crowded during lunch time, so I usually call in my order and take it out. Writing this review is making me crave their food. No guts, no glory. EDIT: they bought space next door and have expanded their dining by maybe 8 tables or so. with a counter to eat at as well, there is plenty of space to dine in. They also just opened a location in Tinley Park, which I'm sure is equally as impressive. read more

A great local sandwich place that is definitely a step up from the chains. Their guts are what makes the sandwich. Bread is always fresh. If you are not sure what to order, the friendly staff are able to recommend something that you might like. You can mix/match what kind of meats/cheeses you might like. I also recommend the taco salad which has Doritos in it. I agree with what someone else posted about not being a fan of RC cola products which is what they serve. read more

Probably one of the better sub places in the area, since Subway/Jimmy Johns gets kind of old sometimes. Not to mention, this is a local place that has been around for a while, and I find myself in here once in a while for lunch since I am in the area. All the subs I have had from here are pretty good. Definitely get a variety of the "guts" on your sandwich, I recommend garlic or original. While a bit more expensive than some of its chain counterparts, Peppo's definitely has a local feel to it, and I am never disappointed with anything I get. It would have 5 stars if it were a little less expensive and didn't lie to our faces when my mother asked for a sub toasted, and they assured us it was toasted (after we wanted to make sure a second time), and then found it wasn't toasted at all when we got home. read more

After reading some article about the best hot dogs joints in the South suburbs in which they listed Peppo's, so I gave it a try. The first negative thing is that they don't serve fries or any other fried food. You would thing that a place that does a catering would have friers. Next thing there was no poppy seed bun for the dog. I asked for everything and they call it the "guts" This a combo of tyoical hot dog toppings and some spice, my first impression was that this was going to be bad. Instead of fries they offer different cold salads. The problem for me was that you take cold salad and place hot dogs, with cold "guts" on top of the salad, by time you get the food home it is going to be cold. Which it was. Besides the above mentioned, the hot dog did not taste bad at all. The Veinna dog had lots of snap to it. Also as someone else mentioned in one of the other reviews, the "guts" smell does stay on your hands a long time. read more

Grabbed food here twice while visiting family for the Holidays. Love the bread the subs are served on. Fresh and soft. Deli meat is tasty and not salty. But be warned, pickles on a sandwich are almost like a relish and in small bits. Macaroni salad is to die for, order a large to take some home with, you won't regret it. The seating area is just your basic old style Chicago deli joint. Service was great and fast. Food was made to order with no issues both times we went. Seating area can be cold if in the dead of winter, so sit in the back and throw your jacket over your shoulders and enjoy a good deli sandwich. read more

Was here on Friday. Ordered a 5" pastrami and Swiss with guts and mustard. Service was very good and efficient. I should have ordered the Italian sub. This sandwich was good and fresh. However, the pastrami was pedestrian. I would stick with ham, turkey, roast beef, or the Italian. The best past of today's sandwich was the guts. Think bruschetta with diced dill pickles. Very very tasty. The bread did a great job of sopping up the juices of this sandwich. Again sandwich good, but, there are better options on the menu. This little shop has some amazing food. The subs are always made fresh to order, and the garnish that they are famous for is unique. It is this blend of relish, onions, and spices, and it is stuffed into the sandwich. The prices here are more than reasonable. There is a few stools by a lunch counter for those who want to dine in, but most of their orders are done to-go. During the lunch rush (11am-1pm) the place usually has a line out the door. So if you have a large order, be sure to call it in first. Not only are their sandwiches great, they also have homemade soup in the winter. I went to Peppo's based on the great reviews and was excited to try them. When I arrived the guy behind the counter was very helpful. He asked me if I was a new customer and offered me some of the guts to try and they tasted great. Once I received my order I was so disappointed. The guts on the sandwich were not the ones he gave me to taste as these were definitely old and soggy. The meat, cheese and the bread were equal to the quality of a sandwich from a gas station. read more

This place was great at its old location. Since they moved to the new location I think the quality of the sub has gone down. They hardly put any meat on the sandwich for what they charge. The GUTS are awesome, I will not bash that. Last time there, the bread was hard and my daughters hot dog was cold. I will buy the GUTS from now on and make my own sandwiches at home, but no need to buy the sub sandwich.
