More of a 3.5 star place. I hope yelp let's us do half stars at some point. Anyways, My wife and I had a gift card to perk on main and figured our day off we be a perfect time to use it. The cafe is small but looks nice with exposed brick and a copper ceiling. It was certainly cold outside, but it was also pretty cold inside the cafe too. They definitely could use another source of heat. The floors were pretty dirty considering the cafe pretty much just opened when we got there. As for the food it was pretty good. I got a foxon park birch beer and a bacon egg cheese burrito. I wanted the burrito that had bacon and sausage but they were out of sausage oh well. It was still pretty good. The home fries were good and well cooked. My wife also ordered a burrito, hers with chicken she liked it as well. Both burritos were 8.50 with home fries. It seems like this place has some kinks to work out. We ordered coffees and a food item at the counter. The coffee was supposed to be self-serve but the dispenser was empty and we told the person behind the counter, who asked us to tell a person behind a different counter. So we went to tell that person and they referred us back to the original person we told. So after waiting a short bit and not having the dispenser refilled, we just got decaf instead. We also had to follow up on the food, as it was taking a while to come out (just a muffin that we asked to have heated). My latte was good but with the disorganization, I probably will wait till they get these things worked out a little bit smoother before returning. Uggghhh! Went back and at something this time and was completely disappointed. The omelette was horrible!!! Runny on the inside which an omelette should never be, no seasoning, very bland with a weird undercooked taste. I brought it back up to the counter to tell them they needed to cook it a bit more and so they said they would make a fresh one. It tasted exactly the same just a little less runny. I asked if they could update that for their customers". The reply..."We'll try". Unreal. I looked up a place to come early in the AM and most of their hours posted anywhere online say 7am. They do not open until 8am. Really not a huge deal but when needing to be dropped off by a friend, in town 90 min before work-- due to car issues, getting here for 7:30 and then not being open was a little disappointing. Mentioned and they couldn't have care less... Then I get a bagel, asked for it extra toasted, and it shows up not toasted at all. Chewy, gummy and it absolutely wasn't worth the calories. Beautiful spot and the inside is very warm and inviting however as my first time coming, and new to this town, it's just a mini-disappointment. Welp. It's inconsistent at best. The customer service sucks or is great depended on the person. So... inconsistent? The staff were mostly confused about what they have, what's on display, and what labels are out. Other staff were so thoughtful and attentive that they seem to be working twice as hard to make up for the others. The selection was so so. A little thin, and some weird choices like the cinnamon scone wasn't cinnamon, but rather those weird little nestle cinnamon waxy chips (like chocolate chips) The cheesecake brownie was Rock hard, I mean, anyone picking it up should have noticed. I'm not even talking about a little crisp. I mean, like 4 days old rock hard. They happily replaced it promptly with a very nicely executed super fresh gluten free berry muffin. So.... inconsistent. The special was a "cheese blintz crepe" the crepe was yummy, the fruit was fresh and a nice variety, but the cheese was ALL WRONG. Gritty uncooked ricotta with sugar added? Not anything that resembled a blintz. When making blintzes you fry them to cook the cheese blended with egg... so yet again, inconsistent. I like that they compost, but am I going to blow $9 again on a raw "blintz" because the fruit was edible or $4 on a baked good that may be good or may be totally terrible? Nah. read more

This is about my second visit in a week. To be fair, the first was excellent: a week ago I went in for a BLT and a fresh-squeezed orange juice and the cook was clearly proud of his attention to detail and I noticed that also in the person at the register and taking care of drinks. Alas, the staff seems to be Jekyll and Hyde: yesterday at 4:30pm, there was virtually no line, few customers in the place, the younger staff mostly joshing with each other behind the counter and paying little attention to customers. I waited 25 minutes for a BLT that never came. And I even got some attitude for their mistake. I had to eat elsewhere. Management needs to pay attention to hit-or-miss service here: I had paid for the sandwich and a juice and been given a name tag and was told to wait. The cook, different from last week's, had even been asked whether he could do the order, since the item's not on the menu. 25 minutes later I discover the order had not in fact been passed along to the kitchen. If even an automated system fails to notify the kitchen, an open kitchen just 10 paces from the register, staff need to be trained so customers won't be left in the lurch. If I'm in a hurry I'll certainly not rely on this place. I'm very sorry for the conscientious man who served me last week but, given how slow it was yesterday, this kind of mistake is ridiculous. Another totally disappointing visit here. Ordered 2 drinks and a berry muffin and berry crepe. Asked where I'm sitting which was outside but then told they're too busy to grill the muffin but it can be microwaved and then have to stand and wait for the 2 drinks to be made as my muffin cools off totally. Ordered a sausage egg cheese on a toasted bagel. Waited nearly 20 minutes to get a sad sandwich. Bagel was stale, hard, and crumbly when you bit in to it let alone the awful presentation of the sandwich. For a $5 breakfast sandwich I need at least two eggs to fill the bagel. Stopped by during a business trip lunch for a quick bite. Looked to have a good menu with some great crepe items but decided to order something more savory for lunch. I ordered a chicken caesar wrap and a co worker ordered a ceasar wrap with shrimp and we both tried half of each. The shrimp was much better. The wraps overall were just okay. Giving a 3 star with a potential 4 star for next time, if there is a next time, based on the crepe experience. Atmosphere is nice and comfortable, however, I ordered a caramel and mocha latte with almond milk and caught the lady putting whole milk in and asked her if she could change it bc I am severely lactose intolerant. I didn't not feel like complaining, so I walked away with the latte with whole milk and there was barely any caramel or mocha in the latte because the lady did the smallest pump. This review is purely for the hours, as I didn't get the chance to eat/drink. We checked the hours online and they didn't match up. We were earlier than the earliest time though, so we figured it was safe they'd be open. When we arrived, the sign on the door said they closed at 3. Everywhere has been hard hit for employees, I get it, I own a small business too, but this needs to be communicated online. A post on the door should be the last added notice for random passerby's, but otherwise the online should be updated. Google/Yelp/FB are all instant updates, and it's not hard to do. Please make the effort to update at least one of your listings online if hours change. read more

Recommends: morning glory muffin, egg and cheese on a baguette, and the Southwestern (I skip the sausage and do avocado... and I tend to do it on a wrap.) We were in Middletown for the morning and found O'Rourke's closed. So we wandered down the street to Perk on Main. This was our first time there. It took a long time to make up our minds because the choices were all amazing. I ended up with the Western crepe without Ham and extra mushrooms and my partner got the Veggie bomb omelet without broccoli. Both came with potatoes which wasn't indicated on the menu so we'd ordered extra. We also ordered the grilled baguette, which was also included with my partner's omelet, also not clearly explained on the menu (if at all). We used the online menu and ordered that way rather than ordering at the counter. Looking at it now, I see that there's an unfinished sentence after the heading for crepes and omelettes - that may have been explaining that they come with potatoes....? Maybe if we'd ordered at the counter this would have been made clear to us. But that's a minor thing. Everything was delicious. The food was perfect. The potatoes were just the way we like them. Since we'd ordered extra, we had some to take home with us, which made us happy. I love the atmosphere. There's a lot of room so it doesn't feel crowded, nice decor, and I felt like we could have a quiet conversation since there weren't people right on us. We'll definitely return. Love Perk! It's my favorite coffee shop in town, and I tried a bunch of them! :) I love their dark roast, and I love their house salad with a scoop of chicken cashew curry salad on it. What a pleasant surprise. Stopped by here a few weeks ago with my friends and ordered lots of food. We ordered wraps, savory crepes and sweet ones as well. The food tasted really fresh and clean. The employee working their sorta looked like Post Malone and was very nice and friendly. The savory food was full of flavor, I got this crepe, I'm not sure of the name but it had cheddar, spinach and chicken and was delicious. I cleaned my plate because of how yummy it was! The sweet crepe I had was one with strawberry and Nutella and it was really tasty as well! I don't like sweet crepes as much so I took only a few bites, but if you like sweet crepes I'm sure you'll enjoy it! If you're in the area, DEFINITELY try their iced coffee!!!! I needed a quick breakfast "on the go" on Saturday morning and there was an open parking spot near Perk. Normally I shy away from the on street parking on Main Street because I don't really like it but this is where all the good things in Middletown are. The shop itself is pretty small. There is enough room for tables along each side and a line of customers down the middle but I think they did a great job of achieving a positive feng shui with the space. I walked in and there was one table with three people waiting for their food and one person in line ordering before me. The cashier was pleasant and I quickly ordered an egg and cheese sandwich for $3.50. From the moment my order went in, to me getting my food was about 7 minutes. With only one girl cooking, I think the time was exceptional. For a simple egg and cheese it was quite delicious and filling. The eggs were moist but didn't fall all over and make a mess in my car. I definitely want to come back when I have more time and better explore their menu as a few interesting things did pop out at me while I was waiting. read more

Perky = Me after I have Perk on Main crepes. Perk on Main made fantastic use of this shop's smaller space, with every nook and cranny filled and decorated beautifully. It is a gorgeous, nicely renovated, well-maintained shop. While the ambiance is comfortable and relaxing, what are you really here for? Crepes. (Clearly.) I decided on a custom crepe with peanut butter, bananas, cinnamon, and honey. The crepes are light and fluffily (yes, I'm making that a word) thin. Delicious and made so well. Though there was not a substantial amount of peanut butter, there was just enough for each bite, with bananas and cinnamon aplenty. Oh, and the presentation: Amazing. I snapped a bunch of pictures, almost too many before my crepes would get cold, but don't worry--I gobbled them soon and before o knew it, I looked down, it was gone, plate licked clean. An excellent dish. For dessert, I got the Classic Combo, which is a sweet crepe filled with Nutella, strawberries, and bananas. Like my main dish with not a good deal of peanut butter, there was little to very light Nutella on it when I cut into it. I brought it up to the server at cash register and she ran back to get the Nutella container, drizzling more on top for me. Overall, it was a good dessert, but not as satisfying as I would have wanted it to be with more Nutella. I'm not complaining though with all the fresh fruit wrapped in a nice warm crepe. Maybe I don't need that sugar and heaviness anyway. Who wouldn't want a fresh slightly sweet crepe? All of the ingredients, crepe batter included, are fresh and simple perfection. You are getting what you pay for here. Quite notable is the kindness and hard work of the servers. The ladies working when my friends and I visited were extremely kind and welcoming. They handled the steady flow of patrons during lunchtime extremely well, cleaning off tables and bringing both food and coffee to each table. Though there are perky components, the less perk-me-ups include the coffee really is not too good (and scalding hot when you get it); the skimping on sauce ingredients, like the peanut butter and Nutella (though this is easily remedied by specifying what is wanted to the servers as they do exactly what you ask); and the expense. It is very pricey for one crepe dish, but the prices seem standard for the area (with two crepe-dishing competitors on their side of the street a few shops apart in each direction). But again, you get what you pay for, which is excellent service and fresh, delicious food. Skip (what I do when I leave here) right to Perk on Main. You will undoubtedly feel perky and happily full of quality food when you leave. read more

Truly, this is probably a 1 star establishment but half of the service we received was great so I added another star to the rating. We walked in and I had to speak to the cook/cashier 2-3 times before I finally received a response. He looked at me like he was annoyed with my enthusiasm (you know those kind of people...). He watched us process the menu for 4-5 minutes never once asking if we had questions or offering to provide input. Once we submitted our orders, he dismissed us to the self-serve-area to obtain water and plastic-ware. Shortly after we were seated, a much kinder waitress came along and inquired if we'd rather have real cups rather than the small disposable one. She poured our waters and then provided us with real silverware. She was super sweet and hospitable. As I alluded to previously, the food was bad. Not like inedible but just boring and room temperature and bland. Honestly, it didn't even taste like a crepe, more so like a really thin flour tortilla with veggie and meat filling. The chicken was clearly formerly prepackaged and not heated thoroughly. The spinach was wet and...it was just crap. The restaurant is nice-looking and offers lots of seating. Stopped in on a Sunday morning for breakfast and coffee to go. It took a solar year (30 minutes) to get mediocre food thrown haphazardly into to-go boxes. I specifically asked that they make one latte last, since we were bringing it back to a friend and didn't want it to get cold. They told me it was no problem. Out of the five beverages we ordered, it was the first one they made (the exact opposite of what I asked for), and one medium latte consisted of half liquid, half foam. Katie was very easy to deal with, did not ask for a deposit, and when I had to cancel the DAY BEFORE, (Covid), told me I did not have to pay a dime ...though I'm sure she had to order the food and now had more bagels, scones, and fruit salad than she was planning on.
