I can't say enough good things about this company! We have a warranty with Maxcare through CARMAX and have been frustrated many times with CarMax's level of customer service and timeliness. Lucky for us, Carmax is not accepting any cars for service right now due to the pandemic, so they referred us over to Akbar auto service to help us out. These guys were fantastic from the beginning! They took us in immediately, addressed all of our concerns, immediately submitted it to max care for approval, and got us back up and running the next business day. If you are young, a woman, and looking for an affordable option, this probably isn't the first place you should go to. Although the owner and the mechanic were very kind to me, the mechanic was very insistent and opinionated on my vehicle repairs. Already, I am weary of auto shops because of the stereotypes that they force on women, but I thought with the help of a friend that it would be different. I tried to come in there with a previous invoice, but it seemed to just irritate the mechanic, Robert. He asked me what was wrong and assumed that from what I was telling him, and what was on my invoice, that there are other problems with the car. Once he diagnosed the car himself, he tells me that the total would be $1850. I thought this was an insane price, and had to discuss it with my mechanic back home in NorCal. I just kept getting indirect answers from Robert about the problem and what repairs I needed most. I tried my best to work with him about what was my most affordable option. He kept insisting that I needed some things, but then would contradict himself by saying that I needed other things more. My gut was telling me that something wasn't right so I asked the owner to send me a complete invoice of the repairs needed for my vehicle. When I called Robert back about the repairs I could afford on the list, he assumed that I didn't add up the total beforehand, and tried to upsell me $100. This was really upsetting for me since I am a former foster youth, and a full time college student, but that didn't matter to Robert. When Robert tried to upsell me after I told him the exact parts I wanted, I let him know that the actual price should be $553. He ended up convincing me to pay him $605. I don't feel like this was a fair price and I didn't feel like I could trust these people as a young woman without much support from the outside. Unfortunately, Robert took advantage of my vulnerability and tried to make his moneys worth. I mean if you can afford it, cool, but I can't. I would advise to the staff that you be more caring for your costumers, even if they can't afford your fancy prices. read more

I have been through hell for the past 8 months because of what Akbar Auto Repair did to my car, however, have decided to give them one last chance to make right what they did wrong..If they refuse..I will move forward not only with all the details but will also attach the proof and then take it all to court. If they do the right thing..I will respect that and give them a better review for integrity. I've read through the other reviews for this business and I have a hard time believing that they are all legitimate. My elderly mother brought her Mercedes in requesting that they give her car a check over to make sure she wouldn't have any issues while driving. They are found a couple of issues and she paid about $700 to have them taken care of. The next day she suddenly had an oil leak which was not present before and was not identified as an issue with the initial work. We brought it back in to have this taken care of and they wanted to charge her another $700 to fix the leak that they clearly caused. This felt really shady and it appears that they were clearly looking to take advantage of her. I highly recommend taking your auto to another more legit dealer as my mother will be doing in the future. read more

I was referred here by lee from al & lee's up the street. it was my first visit but they treated me as though i had been going there for years. john even took the time to call me and show me what was going wrong with my car before fixing it so i could have a better understanding. john was a master tech of vw/audi for over 20 years so he knows these cars forwards and backwards. they had my car done in about 24 hours and it's running perfect now. hopefully i don't need to go back anytime soon but i will go nowhere else for any future car trouble. thank you john! read more

I have been taking my BMW to this place since last year. One day I stopped by and told them that my convertible was not working. One of the guys said "open the trunk" I said, you don't understand it is the convertible that doesn't work, and he said "I know, open the trunk" in 10 seconds he fixed it! Apparently there is a thing in the back that you need to push and somehow it was stuck and I've never had that before. I am woman and know nothing about cars and he was so happy to help and didn't' charge me, where as other places take advantage of woman. All he said was, don't worry, just come back when you need your service done. I was relieved that he was able to fix it, as I had previously taken the car to another place and some guy said that it was one of the censors and it would be $3,000 to fix it! That is why I have been going back to this place for my service and anything I need, from a cup holder to air in my tires. They are awesome and you will get your car problems resolved in a timely manner and at a great price! I highly recommend it! read more

My family has been going to Akbar for years (somewhere around 15) for our 1992 BMW and while I've personally never been that impressed (not being able to diagnose problems, etc.), my parents have always held that they were a fair, honest mechanic shop and decent at their jobs. Sadly, my feelings were justified this past year when we bought a used BMW from the owner of the shop, who said he fixed it for his daughter but she ended up wanting something else. He had promised that he went through everything, the engine was recently refurbished and ran like new. Within the first few months of ownership, the radiator went out twice, brake pads needed to be replaced (I'll admit that one is the price of buying a used car), the ABS computer needed to be repaired and it stalled twice for no reason that they just couldn't find an explanation for (thank god it wasn't in the middle of the road). After everything, they said they just didn't think it would have so many problems but assured it should be in good working order from then on. Then, the engine block cracked which essentially means it's a dead car, and when asked about buying it back, they refused. I personally think that a shop like this should have admitted that they sold a lemon and stood behind it and taken it back, but it is what it is. After losing THOUSANDS, I would never take any of my vehicles back, nor would I ever suggest anyone else do the same. read more

Let's face it, warranties don't glisten with the elixir for life everlasting, and mechanics can be shady. While I've always taken comfort in having all of my service done at the local BMW outlet, I've always remained curious of having alternate options that could offer the same level of expertise, skill, and overall service for those moments when I may not feel that sanity-questioning compulsion to pay the premium over at the stealership. My first venture was to Akbar Auto, discovered them while doing a brief stint at an automotive brokerage firm within local proximity. It was time for my next oil service interval, so I figured this should be a prime opportunity to test the waters. And I have to say that the waters were quite nice. This is a small, privately owned shop that always seems to remain busy (which I think is a very good thing). Now don't misinterpret, the garage & lot weren't consumed by jalopies and clunkers (but there were some), many late model vehicles were there having their torsions tuned and systems synched. And although upon initial arrival, I couldn't help but juxtapose the gleaming appearance of the stealer's service area to the less expansive, blue collar natured facility of Akbar, I was immediately releived of that sensation as I began to converse with the facility owner Mike. Mike is a great guy, and appears to run a fine outfit. Very knowledgeable about the vehicles, and didn't try to blow any smoke with senseless mechanic fodder. The service performed was great. Everything was done just as it would have been at the stealership. My machine was cleaned up, computer was reset, and I even got some of those paper floor mats and a plastic seat cover that I had to throw away! (-: Overall, I was extremely happy with the service, and the experience altogether. They were fast, and the prices are great. I've been back to Akbar many times since my first visit and will continue to do so. It's worth the drive if you're unsure about other independents, and definitely a must if you're local. They also perform service for Benz if that's how you roll. read more

If there was a NEGATIVE Star I would have chosen it. MY MOTHER took her BMW 335i to this horrible place, thinking she would be getting exceptional service, but all she got was problems! 1st, they replace the battery with a incorrect battery which in return created more issues. 2nd they incorrectly replaced a gasket which still was leaking causing errors and receiving a check engine light. 3rd, they told us the check engine light was on because the cars injectors were bad and wanted to charge me $3400.00 to replace them all. I took my car to a BMW certified technician who told me there is nothing wrong with the injectors, it was the gasket that was leaking that was causing the mechanical issues which they replaced incorrectly. Unfortunately i have no choice but to give ONE star. They don't even deserve that! read more

They didn't even charge me for a new brake bulb :) everybody is professional and knowledgeable about those darn complicated German vehicles. Are you kidding me? You should never take your car here, do you know why? We took my mother-in-law's car to be fixed, as you would expect. However, by the end of three weeks they had done nothing other than to charge us $446 to put in a new battery, which we did not need and to do diagnostics, which told us we didn't need a new battery. They then said that we needed a new alternator. We had the car towed to another mechanic who actually fixed the problem for less than $150. They showed us that there was nothing wrong with the alternator, just that the geniuses at Akbar had not reconnected all the wires properly. Do you think the one star reviews are from actual customers and the five-star reviews are from Mike's friends? read more

This place is seriously the place to bring your BMW. I've been to the BMW dealer and to other shops in the same area. But as other yelpers, say: Mike (the owner) is honest and straight forward and does not try to make your wallet empty. For something that would cost about $1,500 at the dealer, he fixed it for half. I will definitely bring my car back for more work. For him to have his business around for about 30 years means that he is true to what customer service really is. The Mercedes dealership gave a $7,000.00 estimate to replace my differential and left axel AFTER the $1,000.00 job installing new motor mounts failed to address a loud rumbling sound on acceleration from my ML320. The dealership would make no guarantee that this second effort would fix the problem, and we'd have to go on replacing parts, trial and error, was all they could propose - a fishing trip! (My feminine intuition told me to leave...) *****Two minutes on the rack at AKBAR and the mechanic showed me a very loose drive shaft. For less than $1,000, I drove away with my car sounding like new.***** Long-standing customers in the waiting room raved about the quality, honesty, and intelligence at AKBAR. If you are first time customer having trouble with other mechanic(dealer) or and you knew the price of others, you will be find with Akbar. But if you are coming without any idea of other's price or just trust what Mike and John's words, you might pay more than you should do. I do not really understand why Mike and John loose their customer for $50. I have 2007 BMW 5 series and I have been there three times. First, I believed that I had good and fair service. Only thing happen was they broke the front bumper of my car while they worked but they fixed and let me had small rental car. I was disappointed for they broke my car but it was undersatandable because all we made mistakes. Second, I had also fair service by claiming insurance. Only thing happen was they did not release my car on the day they said I could pick because they did not receive check from insurance. But I did not get notice from John or mike (Akbar) on the same day til afternoon. It was understandable to me. Third, today in the moring, I stopped by and tried to pick my car because I could not pick my car because of above reason on the last friday. At the moment I took a key from John and about to leave. Mike (he might be owner) came and told me that your battery of BMW was died last week and they recharged. So if the battery would die again then some(I do not remember) part of electric would be broken and it will cost more than $800. I was shock for there was no notice to me about dead battery from akbar and they jusy explained right before I trys to pick the car. I asked the price of battery replacement. Mike told me that the total price is $334. Of course I asked for discount. He said no because the price he gave me already included discounts. And also he told me that they only made $50 on labor and $20 on battery. Mike also said that their cost of battery is $250. Mike told me that he was not overchage and trust me. So I agreed to replace the battery because I believed them and I came to work by using my wife car. But when I received the copy of invoice from my wife. I WAS SHOCK. On the invoice the price of battery is about $215.95 and labor charge is about $96 and tax. SO I CALLED AKBAR AND ASKED MIKE. HE WAS OUT OF OFFICE. SO I TALKED TO JOHN ABOUT WHAT MIKE TOLD ME THAT HE CHARGED $50 ON LABOR BUT HOWCOME IT IS ABOUT $96 ON INVOICE. I ASKED JOHN TWICE THAT ALL OF $96 WAS LABOR CHARGE THEN HE SAID YES. WHAT JOHN TOLD ME THE DEAL WAS $330 IN THE MORNING. JOHN ALSO TOLD ME THAT HE DOES NOT KNOW WHY WE STILL TALKED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEM THEN CALL LATER AND TALK WITH MIKE. I was surprise how John could treat me like.. He was always smile and nice at me when he gave me the estimates. But once I had questions and/or doubt on the price of service and parts, he did not want to talk to me. I felt that I was fool to trust what mike and john told me about the their cost of battery and how much they made on the margin on them PLEASE DO NOT TRUST WHATEVER TOLD YOU BUT DOUBT THEM. IF NOT, THEN YOU WILL BE FOOL EXACTLY SAME AS ME. DO NOT ACCEPT AND AGREE WITH THEM IF THEY GIVE YOU A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME TO THINK AND SEARCH FOR THEIR OFFER, YOU WILL BE OVERCHARGED. read more

John and his crew are awesome! A piece of the black cover underneath my car came loose due to damage from the previous owner. I knew I just probably needed to cut it off myself until I felt like fixing it for real. John had a full day of clients, but told me I could come back tomorrow and he would do it for free. Sure enough the next day I was in and out in under 20 minutes in between his paying clients. Not to mention I drive a Toyota which is not a car he typically deals with. Still he refused to refer me and did it himself. I felt respected here which is rare when you're a female who has minimal knowledge of cars. I have to say at first looks the shop is not as appealing as the dealer, but after walking in it is actually very comfortable and clean. My friend had a radio system installed by some audio store on Holt. (Never doing that again) After that, the car's lighting system wouldn't work. He took it back several times to that shop and they told him that they needed a new battery because the battery is old. He changed the battery and nothing changed. He took it to Akbar and he kept the car for a few days. He figured out what happened and had it fixed for less than what the dealer would have charged. He is very happy and Akbar is a great guy. Sometime around late-January 2003, working a bell-to-bell as one of the Finance Managers at Riverside Metro Auto Group's Nissan/Hyundai/Subaru, I hit the jackpot when a customer traded-in a beautiful black on gray 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL with only 123,000 miles on it. The original owner was a woman in her late 60s who had taken very good care of the vehicle, so I bought it from our used car manager. It needed work. Having never owned a Mercedes before, I knew of a specialty shop in my hometown of Upland where they serviced only M-B and BMW. The owner was the sweetest, most knowledgable guy I'd ever met when it came to German cars and his son, Mike was super cool. They test drove the vehicle, inspected it and told me everything I needed to know in order to take it cross-country, from Hollywood, CA to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Motor mounts, valve stem seals, A/C charge, all new fluids and tail lamps, transmission service and a half dozen other things were finished in just a couple of short days for what STILL, even to this day, seems like highway robbery!!! Something like $845 for everything!!! And here I am, 10+ years later with four other Mercedes vehicles, and there isn't another German shop around -- ANYWHERE -- that I'd trust with my vehicles. We started taking our Mercedes to Mike at Akbar Auto in 2006. He and his staff have always been professional and have done a great job maintaining our vehicle. When we moved to Covina in 2009, we didn't want to drive to Upland anymore and found a closer mechanic who would up charge us and always find more and more things "wrong" with our car. We quickly tired of that and went back to Mike. Even though it's not close, it's worth taking our car there so that we know it will be serviced and the work will be done correctly. I recently had no choice but to take my Porsche to the dealership in Riverside for a battery. They gave me a whole list of things (totaling over $7,000) on top of charging me $1,300.00 for a new battery which is highway robbery in my opinion. They told me all of the items needed to be done asap. I did not believe them because Akbar on Benson always has been honest and very very VERY reasonable. I took my car in this morning and Jim told me that only one of the items needed addressing at this time. He said the other items could wait a very very long time and some did not even need to be done. They always take care of me at Akbar. I wish I were closer when I needed my battery as they told me they would have only charged me $600.00. Akbar is honest, professional and make it affordable for me to have this type of car. I have referred them to my friends who have Audi's, BMW's and Mercedes too. I have had all of my BMW's, Mercedes and Porsche's serviced here and will forever.
