Persian Tea Lamb Shank Persepolis Soltani Platter Torshi

My dad and I went there for Father's Day. The atmosphere was very casual and relaxed. We had time to look at the menu and ask questions. The staff checked on us every once in a while. After we ordered our food it arrived at our table quickly. My lamb was fall off the bone tender. The dishes were well seasoned with different spices. However, everything could have used a bit more salt to amplify the flavor.

Every item we had was Delicious and Fresh. Must try the hummus and Saffron ice cream. The hot sauce was surprisingly good and the rice was as fluffy and light as I have ever had. The sugar free ice tea was great also. A lot of Love went into that food.

Great food and service. The spot has changed a lot ever since I've been hearing new owner.

A friend treated me here for my birthday as he recommended this place himself. This is a Persian restaurant that's in the University District, and there's plenty of street parking around. Since it was around 12pm on a Friday, my friend and I were the only ones inside and got seated quickly. I loved how our servers were very prompt with bringing the dishes out, including appetizers and water. The inside has many big tables, and feels somewhat fancy with the chairs, tables and glass cups around. My friend and I got the tahdig with gheimeh and the lamb rack. The tahdig is crispy rice along with meat, peas and cheese on top. It was really hard to chew on the crispy rice but it was tasty and savory and complimented the rest of the dishes very well as an appetizer. The lamb rack is pretty huge; there were five pieces of bone-in lamb chops and each one had a TON of flavor and meat packed into it. Most of the plate is basmati rice with saffron, however. The lamb rack was definitely my favorite part of the whole meal, and I'm down to try other things on their menu when I come back here.

The best Tah-Deeg and khoresh. The portion is so big and the khoresh is delicious. We also ordered the king's choice: kubideh, barg and chicken with an extra skewer of kubideh. This was a lot of food and we left totally satisfied and some to take with us. The dining room has a musty odor but the good food makes up for it. Wait staff is friendly and helpful. Overall great experience

Delicious and authentic! As someone who grew up eating Persian food, this hit the spot! The portions are generous and platter style with pickled cabbage, onions and basil on the side. I recommend the koobideh (beef) kabob. There is plenty of seating and the ambiance is great for dinners and get togethers. So happy I found this gem and I will definitely be back.

My FIL is from Iran and was visiting from the East Coast, so we wanted to take him to an authentic Persian meal. I don't know much about Persian food, but my FIL loved it! He said it was very authentic and reminded him of home. Personally, I got the chicken skewer with saffron rice with pomegranates seeds. The chicken was really moist and well seasoned. We also got tadiq (crispy rice) and babaganoush. The babaganoush was garlicky and excellent! Possibly the best I ever had. The tadiq was ok. Very crispy but tasted kind of like popcorn. All.of the portions were extremely generous.

I knew I had to come here when multiple people from Iran had recommended it to me. And I was not disappointed! Before we got our food, they gave us some bread, butter, basil, and raw onion. The kashk-e-bademjan was so light and appetizing! Even if you don't normally like eggplant, give it a chance, it might change your mind! The tadig is a must, the fesenjan had a sweet and sour flavor from the pomegranate but it really worked! The vaziri was nice because we got to try two kinds of kebabs, both of which were seasoned and cooked perfectly! They were way to bite into, not too tough. The portion sizes are generous, this was plenty for 3 adults! The service staff were also very kind, always checking in on us! Food came pretty quickly too. The atmosphere is also nice, they have small tables if you want to eat alone or a big table which is more communal. You also get to enjoy some Persian pop music :)

What's everyone's favorite vegan dish here?

Mine is the eggplant platter. The eggplant comes out as almost a purée paste. I'm not sure what spices they use, but it is delicious!

The center area hosted a huge group with multiple tables pushed together. I have avoided Zeitoon all these years because they are higher cost, not necessarily justifiable since there are lower cost Persian foods or similar Mediterranean restaurants in the area. I finally decided to try them. Our server answered my questions, including his favorites. Two questionable/sketchy things happened: 1. Our server recommended the Mirza Ghasemi, which he said is great with the optional soft-boiled egg. Sounds good. We ordered it. The optional egg is $2, which is not identified on the menu. (See photo) 2. When he recommended the Mirza Ghasemi, we asked him to remove the Mast O Khiar which we initially chose. I said we only want one appetizer. He nodded and said OK. When the Mirza Ghasemi arrived, so did the Mast O Khiar. They put both on the table and immediately left. I flagged the original server to remind him we said to remove it, but a different person showed up instead. He: "You want to cancel this? No problem." and took the yogurt away. I did not order this; it is not me canceling. Minus 0.5 stars from overall rating. The Food: Mirza Ghasemi + egg, $14 +$2 - 2.5 Stars This eggplant dish is the one recommended by our server. We do enjoy eggplant dips, especially warm versions. The optional "soft boiled egg" is not an American version but tiny threads of yellow egg bits mixed within the eggplant mixture. Honestly, we cannot taste the egg. It is borderline a scam. This dish would be 3.5 stars if it was $14 at the menu price, which is already on the high side. A $16 eggplant dish is delusional. Lamb Shishlik Kebab, $36 - 3.5 Stars Menu: Lamb rack marinated and chargrilled (see menu photo) I knew I would not see a rack of lamb on my plate. I got four lamb chops. Meat quality wise, this is excellent. It comes with a ton of basmati rice and a salad with a refreshing light dressing. This is a bit spendy for the quantity of meat, but taste is good. Soltani Shishlik, $42 - 3.5 Stars This is the exact same dish as above except add a skewer of grounded beef kebab. This kebab, and I quote my hubby, is "not that good". Same comment for the rest of the dish. A basket of lavash bread arrived at the table. I believe it came with the Mirza Ghasemi. We have eaten many lavash breads, commonly used as wrap so it is grilled and/or heat-pressed with oil on the surface. These lavash breads are simply warmed. I learned they taste terrible that way. The surface has a sandpaper texture and still taste like sandpaper when eating it. If I paid for this separately, I would be upset.

After walking…read morearound to stretch our legs from the drive we ducked into Zeitoon Grill House for some Persian cuisine. Based on decor I wondered if it had been a pub or steakhouse once in its life: lots of paneled and coffered wood, chandeliers, and wooden booths with coat hangers. We started with the baba ghanouj and ordered the fesenjan and a beef kobideh for meals. The meals came with a salad to share rather than small individual salads on the plate which was a nice touch. The staff was able to provide some veggies with the baba ghanouj since my partner in crime can't have bread. The baba ghanouj was great - exactly the smoky eggplant flavor I was craving when I saw the sign for Persian cuisine. The kobideh was nice and tender - you could taste the onion. The fesenjan was also extremely good. One question: Who eats this much rice in one dish? The rice was very good - but it is a lot of rice. I haven't had Persian like this since we had Persian neighbors who invited us over.

We shared a bunch of appetizers: bolani, burta, and the mushroom qorma. Burta was my fav but every single dish was so flavorful. This was my first time trying Afghan food so I was excited to see what the cuisine offers. We got the combination kebab for 2 (2 red meats - lamb and beef, $100) which is basically a full set course menu and a fish qorma as another entree as there was 3 of us. The combination kebab is definitely more than enough food for 2, as the 3 of us shared that plus one entree and we were all stuffed. Ash - traditional noodle soup with kidney beans and chickpeas. I like the salty and slightly tangy aspect of the soup and it definitely whet my appetite for what is to come. Badenjan Borani - eggplant. I don't like eggplant but found the taste of this to be delicious. It is a bit on the mushier side for my liking though Fish qorma - fish was cooked nicely in a tomato based sauce Seekh kebab - beef. I didn't really like this one as much since the meat was tough but the flavor was great. Bara kebab - lamb. I love this one as it was juicier and more flavorful Kabuli palaw - the rice dish that comes with the kebab. I love this - it's like jeweled rice from Iranian and Persian cuisine, which offers carbs and a bit of sweetness to it. Pairs excellently with the dishes Firni - cardamom, pistachio, rosewater pudding. Classic Afghan dessert. Quite sweet but refreshing at the same time. Love it Dogh - an interesting salty drink made with yogurt, fresh mint, and salt. It felt like I was drinking sauce but more palatable. Service is good as dishes were taken out in good cadence and food came out at a decent pace.

The signature saj bread is cooked fresh on a hot stone and is almost like a Middle Eastern flour tortilla with the way it's super thin and satisfyingly chewy bite. The only seating options are a few large benches on the sidewalk, but there's a poster saying you're welcome to sit at the neighboring bar which opens in the late afternoon provided you purchase a drink as well. Ended up sampling 3 of their wrap options and the Zaatar Wrap was deliciously nutty and fragrant, but texturally there was so many herbs that the center ate a little dry. The Lahme Khuruf (Lamb) was my favorite by far with super juicy ground meat with some tang from the labneh, sweetness, freshness from the tomato, and texture from the pine nuts. Absolute home run on this one! The Awarma and Cheese was a close second, but personally, the flavor profile was just a little less interesting than the lamb. Tip: grab some extra napkins as the wraps can fall apart a bit at the end!
