All is can say is run don't walk to enjoy the amazing food at Persepshen. Every time we dine at Persepshen the food seems to surpass the previous time if that is even possible. We love that they use organic locally sourced products and make everything from scratch. We started off with a fall drink The Viking - the apple cider reduction makes it so flavorful. We started with the Shishito Peppers - the aioli and was addictive and should be bottled. The Beef Schwarma was flavorful and loved all the accompaniments, but hands down the Beef Belly Pibil was a revelation. The beef could be eaten with a fork and melted in our mouths. We just finished having dinner at Persepshen and sadly it was AWFUL! The Caesar salad had a very greasy dressing with sun dried tomatoes that were hard as a rock! And that was the best part of the meal... it got worse. The shrimp tacos were un inventive and extremely salty! The eggplant parm must have been sitting in a pan for a long time because the bottom was dark black burnt and I couldn't saw my fork through it!!! The noodles on the side were both cold and parts were room temp. The service (or I should say food) took a long time to get. The waitress asked how our meals were. I told her the eggplant was hard as a rock and inedible. She smiled and said I'm sorry as she wrung up the bill. I had to say... I'm sorry but don't think I should pay for my entree. She said she'd ask the chef and then came back and said we won't charge you for the eggplant. The restaurant was 1/2 empty yet it took 15 minutes to seat us. The entire dining experience was really, really bad. We won't ever be returning. The pacing, and food were actually horrible:(! read more

It would be impossible to express my love for Persepshen in just this review. Up until last September, my husband and I were regular diners. It quickly became our favorite date night spot after the pandemic was in our rearview mirrors in Arizona. One evening in late July (meal photos here), we were sitting at the back bar and Chef Jason was waiting on us (also making our drinks & food) during one of the biggest monsoons of the season. We ended up sitting for some time enjoying our drinks until the storm passed and my husband encouraged me to ask Chef if there was any way I could get involved with Persepshen and the sustainable, organic, and local mission that he and his wife/co-owner Katherine have made reality for AZ diners. Long story short, I have been a part of the Persepshen team for the last 6 months and can speak first-hand to the love and care that Chef Jason, Katherine, and the rest of the team pour into the dishes they dream up, prepare, and serve. It is a small, but mighty team that cares deeply about finding the best local, sustainable, and organic meat and produce Arizona has to offer and making them all come together on the plate in such a delicious way that it should be illegal. They made you feel like family from the moment you walk in the door and it has been the best introducing our friends and family (local and from afar) to Persepshen over the last year. I still have plenty to learn, but I can never thank Chef Jason and Katherine enough for giving me a chance and letting me be a small part of what they are doing. What a cool space! And with an ever changing menu, I wasn't sure what to expect. My husband took me for my birthday and we certainly feasted! Lucky for me tons of veggies and fish options. One of my favorite starters was the Sunchokes and the Cioppino was out of this world- plenty of seafood to share and a delicious sauce. I couldn't help myself and their "toothache" dessert made all of my cookie dreams come true. Cocktail lost was small but thoughtful. I enjoyed my cocktail which included tequila, jalapeno and even some bubbly! It was very quiet on a Wednesday night but on a busy night there is certainly enough space to socially distance. There is a huge patio and I can't wait to come back and try brunch. The chef/owner was always our waiter. It's clear that the food is made from the heart and I'm so happy to support a restaurant that sources local and is rooted in sustainability. Can't wait to come back! Delicious food, granted they were sold out of many things (must mean they were a hit). The items we tried were: Acorn Squash - perfectly grilled and well seasoned Cheesy Spinach Dip - it was good, but not the star of the show Gnocchi - long pieces of homemade gnocchi in a velvety sherry cream, delish. Mussels - a little and the mussels were on the smaller side, but still very flavorful and the best part was soaking up the broth with the focaccia Sunchokes - now this, this is the star of the show. What an extraordinary place! Intimate, but spacious. Earnest, but relaxed. We sat before the chef and watched the kitchen move plate after plate from the entire menu. The "small plates" can feed four; the entrees can easily be shared. But why not taste everything that sounds good to you? We had the sour cream and chive sunchokes, the pickled/fried okra, the Frenchie, and steak and potatoes. I'm still stuffed 2 hours later! Honest to goodness, just a gem of a place. Came here for dinner with my mom. We both got a drink and had an appetizer to share. The food is great however the prices don't match the ambience nor do they match the quality of the food. The food is great but for 2 drinks and one appetizer, the bill shouldn't be 75 dollars especially when the ambience isn't there either. The halibut dip was alright, came with capers, bread that was flipped upside down because it was burnt, some onions and some greens. Our drinks were tasty, however had no alcohol in them. It tasted like a slurpee full of sugar. We ended up leaving after the appetizer and going somewhere else. Was extremely disappointed especially after all the other great reviews. Last night, we tried their Duck l'orange, sun chokes, escargot and charcuterie board. Charcuterie was amazing: with everything made in house: from picketed daikon to the various meats and pate's. Sun chokes weRe actually my favorite: crispy kale on top the buttery preparations complemented the sun chokes nicely. Escargot was served with bread and also a nice appetizer. Lastly: the duck! Beautiful half duck: perfect for two in an orange sauce. If I were to make any edit's, I would shrink then menu: however as it stands- there is something for everyone. What an outstanding restaurant. They pride themselves in locally sourcing and preparing every element of the meal themselves. The menu is varied and interesting with marvelous flavors. The same can be said for the cocktails. We tried various dishes including the paccheri bolognese, the melt in your mouth pork, grilled asparagus, salumi board and, of course, the half cooked cookie with vanilla bean gelato. Persepshen is a farm to table sort of American restaurant. Everything is made in house. They serve organic and do whole animal butchery. This is a small restaurant that offers a large changing menu of many plates. I enjoyed the food and service last time so I wanted to come back. Our host/hostess and waiter were great! They all were welcoming, efficient and friendly. We started with the pickles ($6.) and the wood grilled sun-chokes ($12.) both were delicious and well prepared. Dinner arrives shrimp and grits ($26.) and swordfish tacos ($27.00). My husband tries a shrimp and it's cold....then he tells me his grits are cold. I didn't believe that the grits could be cold so I stuck my finger in the and yes they were nearly cold. Then I taste a small piece of swordfish and it was almost cold too. We mentioned this to the hostess and she immediately notified the waiter who apologized and promptly said that they would make us new plates. A few minutes latter someone that might be the chef or owner runs out my taco plate and he asked what was wrong with the first one. I told him that the fish was almost cold. He said in an arrogant tone that the fish is surrounded by cold slaw, cold salsa and cold cream so the fish is going to be cold. So then I asked, "so why were the shrimp and grits served cold?" The chef shrugged his shoulders, rolled his eyes and just walked away without answering. During this time the shrimp and grits arrive. 2nd plate of fish tacos arrived on a warm plate. The flavors were amazing and the fish was warm and was tender. The shrimp and grits came out with a lettuce type of green instead of bitter greens. The shrimp were blackened and slightly burnt and a little tough but this dish was hot this time. The sausage in the dish was outstanding but there was very little of it in the dish. Our waiter apologized again when he presented the check. I still find that the food and menu is an exciting concept but the chef upset me so much that I doubt I'll ever return. read more

My best friend from high school invited me to dinner with her mom and her mom's boyfriend and we were treated to a delightful and unique meal that I would love to devour over and over again! LOCATION: -conveniently located right off of Central with plenty of parking in the adjacent parking lot. You probably won't have any trouble parking! We ate on a Saturday night around 7:30 and easily found a spot -ambiance of the restaurant is very rustic and warm. I love the unique table setups and am fascinated by the cool chandelier and other unique decor! SERVICE: -on the particular night that we dined at Persepshen, they were understaffed on waitstaff, so the chef was actually our waiter! What a treat! -drinks were brought out promptly and were delicious! I had the Ginger cocktail and it was perfectly balanced! Just enough gin to taste the juniper flavor, but not overpowering, and not too sweet! -our food came out quickly and we were asked several times if we needed anything. Thankfully, compliments to the chef were easy since he was the one coming to check in on us! FOOD AND DRINKS: -wine and beer list is not long, but has plenty of quality options! -the food selections all sounded delicious, I opted for the Grilled Shrimp which was perfectly cooked and nestled atop a bed of absolutely fabulous beans and rice! The beans were smooth and rich, just the way I like them. -my best friend ordered the linguine which looked delightful -we also ordered the pork belly buns as an appetizer and they were MASSIVE. The 4 of us shared the 3 buns and thoroughly enjoyed them! -presentation of dishes is top-notch. All of our meals were plates beautifully! Came here for the soft opening and it was above and beyond! I usually wait two months to go to a new restaurant so I know all their kinks are worked out, but everything seemed to be running very smoothly, and I love their concept of locally sourced goods and using the entire animal. Truly farm to table. Very impressed of the transformation and the ethics behind this new establishment. The charcuterie board was so clean, as in the meats tasted the way it should taste, and there was no porky aftertaste - so delicious! This place is one of my favorites for so many reasons. We brought our toddler hear which is always just a little scary and they were extremely accommodating from the moment we walked in. They even had toys hiding behind our booth in case she got antsy. Then as we started getting our food, one of the servers walked over and handed us an unbreakable plate. Most places that are similar in price points tend to do things to make the place less kid friendly so all of this we really appreciated Then we started ordering food and decided to do a bunch of shareables and seriously.... everything was amazing. If you don't end with their underbaked cookie skillet, you are doing it completely wrong. Now onto the owner who seemed to be cooking, bartending, and serving...basically doing it all. You can tell they have poured their heart and soul into every detail of the place... including the handcrafted tables and little wooden serving trays. Food is phenomenal and the sourcing and ingredients are next level. The best past is everything is SEED OIL FREE!! Everything is made with care and you can feel it and taste it. The service is impeccable and everyone was very knowledgeable and helpful with my gluten allergy (90% of the menu could be made gluten free). The restaurant is gorgeous and homey. "One of the worst meals of my life" my wife said at the end. The positive: Drinks were pretty good, and service was friendly for the most part except they failed to do anything about our poor meal. For our reservation we were seated in a horribly awkward spot in a half empty restaurant. The food was bad to borderline inedible. $18 Fried okra was okay although a little hard and crunchy. $38 Pan fried noodles with shrimp came out as a burned, hard block, and the sauce with the shrimp was even worse. We took 2 bites, and our server asked if we wanted it boxed to which we said no thanks. $38 Mexican pizza was also burned to a crisp; otherwise the toppings were decent flavor but left us feeling sick throughout the night. We didn't eat much of the pizza either, and while I was in the restroom the server took away the plate and asked how it was. My wife politely said the food was difficult to eat explaining how it was burnt and asked for the check. The check arrived with no comp or apology about the food, which was a little surprising, so I respectfully tried to explain to the server the food was very burnt and very bad. She wanted to bring out the head chef to discuss, which is awkward, and we also needed to leave to catch a show. Ended up with the full price bill (still surprising no comp) and the server hovering over while I filled out the tip on the electronic device. Again, one of the worst meals. read more

I forgot to update this review from my first one. This restaurant has definitely grown and become a bit more established from when they first opened. I revisited in February 2020. The menu has grown immensely to have much more variety than it did at opening! Some really great selections. They still pride themselves in telling their farm to table story with the meat they use which I just stopped the guy being I'm a pescatarian.
