This is a decent restaurant with a good selection of good food and a family atmosphere. Since they've revamped the interior, it doesn't feel like a hole in a wall when you walk in for your takeout orders. With that said I feel like Persis is a place for diners who put food first and does not care much about ambience hence the prices are lot cheaper compare to any other restaurants in near by area. I ordered chennai chicken which was good and spicy. The chicken meat itself was good, not great. My wife ordered a channa massala and it ended up way too spicy and she ended up not eating it. I finished and it was good, but agree that it was probably too spicy. The service was atrocious though, I ordered take out and when entering there were at least 6 people there but nobody seemed to be in any hurry or interested in making this happen quickly. Oh Hell No......... 25 minutes to get our lunch order in a empty restaurant. Goat and Chicken Biryani while colorful and plentiful held little taste or seasoning with even less Goat and Chicken, I found 3 lean pieces of goat in a massive mound of rice and 2 very humble chunks of chicken in the very large dough covered chicken Biryani dish. Not exactly a generous ratio of protein to rice . At $14.99 and $13.99 respectively, not a inexpensive proposition for lunch or dinner in a South Asian joint for that matter. What came to the table was ecstatically pleasing but held little in taste, spice or value. We finally asked for some hot chili's to perhaps make these dishes semi edible and the seemingly perplexed waitress said they lacked taste because we ordered it medium hot.....Okay but what about the seasoning? did that only come with the heat range.....Seriously? Naan was dry and tasteless....Sorry but if your butter Naan has no discernible "butter" then it's only stale dry Naan. Sides of Raita and Sambar were edible but hardly redeemed this very disappointing meal. In closing, we have in Persis a small concept franchise in too large and isolated of a location serving tasteless, expensive and disappointing Indian food when there is so many better options available close by. I do hope they did not sigh a long term lease as I don't think this concept will survive long enough for diners to care. I misread that it's either rice or naan with the lunch special but everyone went with rice. Next time I will order some extra naan! The most authentic Hyderabadi biryani I had in NJ was at a Persis. Not this one. I believe the management has changed and the quality has consistently been poor. I give Persis an 3 to 4 for effort. However I would not go again if having the choice. My wife and I went on Valentine's Day. We arrived at 6pm and received our entree at 7pm and dessert at 7:35pm. When we arrived there were only 5 other couples there and it took at while to get our items out to us. Not sure why it takes so long to get out prefixed menu items out. Here is my review of the food: Salmon herb soup: If it had chunks of salmon it would have been great otherwise it was just liquid Shrimp grilled appetizer. now this was good. nice spicy kick. Chicken korma entree It was green. that is all I have to say. I thought korma was white. I asked for spicy. Not very spicy. Biryani chicken It only had one piece of chicken in it. If you are having a Valentine's dinner I would expect 2 pieces of chicken at least Dessert. chocolate brownie. only took one bite.. actually half a bite. Other comments: It was too dark. I know it was Valentine's day... but I couldn't see my wife and I wanted to see her because she is pretty It took too too long for our food to come out. The waiter staff was below average, very slow, not polished. One of them seemed to have just woke up and forgot her comb her hair. The food at Persis is delicious. We've eaten at the restaurant before all this craziness, and we've ordered take out. Appetizers, meats, veggies, all so very tasty. We have varying tolerance for spice, so we tend to order mild. The only issue we encountered was with this Covid situation, they must've been short-handed, so we waited two hours for our food (we live about 20 minutes from the restaurant). Hopefully that was a fluke. Don't let that deter you though, because the fragrant, sumptuous food is worth the wait. read more

I went with my family to Persis for dinner on May 4th, it was a positive experience. My 70 year old parents were trying Indian cuisine for the first time. We ordered delicious Samosa and Tandoori chicken for appetizers. Then we enjoyed Chicken Tika Masala, Lamb Vindaloo, Channa Saag and a Persis Platter with garlic naan. The Galub Jamun dessert was a terrific finale. Every dish was tasty and generous in portion size. Service and overall value were good. I love Indian food, and I have some favorite dishes I always get, but I don't usually like Indian buffets because they almost never have anything I like or at least not enough of my favorites. But this place has an absolutely amazing selection of foods for the buffet and I love everything that I get every time I've been to the buffet so far which has been 3 times and I have been thoroughly satisfied with the food. Raj is an amazing host and I think manager and possibly the owner (I'm not certain of his position) all I know is that he is outstanding with making people happy and doing a superb job of managing everything at the same time. This recent visit was my fathers birthday and we were there till closing and he didn't make us feel rushed to leave, and to further prove this: Raj surprised my father with a warm brownie topped with ice cream and a candle with happy birthday music playing on the overhead speakers. This was so nice of him to do all of this despite the time, it was 5 min past closing time. Note: we always parked in the parking lot to the left of the building, but a friend of ours parked in the lot to the right, and so I walked over there to find an extremely beautiful entrance, complete with a footbridge over a tiny stream, which gave such a nice feeling as you entered. Great little Indian food place in Monroe. I believe they just recently opened it and opened up where the old Greek restaurant used to be. Overall very satisfied with their food and service. The only issue was I should have went for the chicken makhani instead of the chicken tikka masala and listened to my own gut feeling instead of listening to the waiters recommendation. While the chicken tikka masala was tasty, I'm not a fan of large green peppers and large onions inside of my meal. I am more a fan of chicken makhani that is more creamy and tasty in my opinion.
